Reductive beyond imagination, even for a 1999. Faulty. Seems unlikely to be a counterfeit bottle, though maybe, as top label with vintage was missing.

At 22 years, it is still a moderately powerful wine. Mostly tertiary notes, but some tannin, fresh acidity and a hint of red fruit. A classic Burgundy. This is why I enjoy Burgundy - not all age this well, but when they do, they are wonderful! This bottle was aged in the Domaine's cellars until it was shipped to Canada in 2023.

Delicious for a village wine and punches above its price point. Mature red fruits, ceps, and dried leaves, this definitely has elegance and is rather medium in stature - the fruit is definitely there. The minerality is just delicious, however, and is the star of the show in the way it integrates with the fruit and secondary characteristics. There was something strangely moreish about how it all came together. Defintiely more than the sum of its parts.

Fifth bottle from a half case purchased at auction in 2009. Pristine condition. Not decanted, opened three hours in advance. Very similar to the previous bottle tasted in October 2022. It has lost quite a lot of fleshy weight, but not its iron minerally energy or precision. The flavour profile is lively, a lovely marriage of youthful and tertiary flavours, the acidity is steely, the tannins still provide grip, and the finish is light but not too tea-like and has good length. Completely ready, with some time in hand.

Aerated and decanted about 90 minutes. Light, bright ruby color. Sweet cherry, red berry nose. Really nice, smooth, fruity taste, light finish.

Another disappointing bottle of this wine.
Not recognizable as a Cotes de Nuits wine; never mind a premier cru from Vosne-Romanee.
It actually comes across as a decent West Coast attempt at Pinot Noir:
obvious, simple fruit, unbalanced, over-extracted.
I will wait 10 years before the next bottle. Nothing to lose...

Third bottle out of a case.
Deep hue showing moderate aging; completely appropriate for its age.
Very ripe in character almost an un-traditional style of wine from Vosne-Romanee; more directly fruit-driven and somewhat lacking in complexity.
Scarce tertiary elements; lacking in spicy and earthy/mineral elements.
I could give it the benefit of the doubt and state that it may develop these elements with more time, but after 18 years this seems highly doubtful.
Ultimately quite disappointing...

90 minute slow ox.
Medium garnet with bricking on edges. Medium acidity, medium tannins. Brooding and deep rather than bright, dark berries, forest floor, wood spice, tobacco leaf, and subtle smoke. This is definitively old school style.

PNP from decanter. Medium garnet with some fading and a touch of browning at the rim. Medium plus acid, medium present but age subdued tannins.
Autumn fallen leaves with a wild streak, dark plums, dark berries, briny minerals, earthy mushroom, pleasant wood spice and finishing with dusty cocoa. Old school NSG-drinking great, but no hurry.

Very powdery tannins, attractively chiseled fruit and acid mix. Crunchy red fruit with a little more power than finesse. Cherry stone permeates on the finish in a real, driving way. Came off as a higher altitude Malconsorts, and very worthy of the terroir, as it was served alongside a 2013 Mugnier Bonne Mares and more than held its own. Glad I bought these.

This was given to me by a friend—it came from the cellar of a relative who had passed away. He said it had likely been stored well over the years, but the label showed some evidence of humidity or water damage.

I decanted the bottle about 3 hrs before dinner and it showed quite a bit of bricking, almost browning around the rim, with a dark ruby core. But initially it was very closed off, with almost no aroma whatsoever…I wasn’t sure there was any life left.

By dinner, however, the wine had opened up and was glorious. Almost a mushroom like scent alongside red fruits. And the palate was similar—bright and dark red fruits were still there, with good acidity and a long, long finish. What a treat, and probably my WOTY.

First bottle of this producer and vineyard; it was excellent and exceeded by expectations; the nose was more elegant and red fruited than I expected, but had definite Vosne spice and floral notes; the palate was more elegant and refined than many '05s, but certainly wasn't short on intensity. Excellent. I will continue to look for this wine, though its hard to find.

Slightly ashy whole bunch is integrated with red and black berry, muted sweet spice and gamey notes with a touch of earth and mushroom. That jubey fruit quality is also here with a touch of wood glue wild ferment. Juicy, fleshy, fresh, softly tannic red berried fruit which has a slightly sour edge, pretty, nice

Decanted and poured; details evolved over two hours. The nose has excellent complexity with dark strawberry and raspberry notes with tobacco and white pepper as well. On the palate there is good balance with very fine grained tannins. Fresh red cherry skins and some charred sandalwood. There is a bit of weakness on the palate as it thins out just before the finish; this improved over time in the glass. Despite that, this did not disappoint.

Fourth bottle from a half case purchased at auction in 2009. Pristine condition. Not decanted, opened two hours in advance. A fine bottle. Mature but vibrant, cool and transparent style, undergrowth and spice, whiff of nuttiness, fresh and lively, elegant weight, papery tannins still provide grip, very good length, tea-like finish. Nothing spectacular, but a satisfying, well-aged Burgundy. Completely ready, but will go on. How lovely.

Jason’s ‘top’ village Burgundy (67 Pall Mall, London): Sweet red fruit on the nose, quite spikey on the palate with the wrong kind of energy which was all the more challenging as did not seem Pinotesque and another diner speculated if it would be identified as Gamay were it to be served blind. From Zalto Burgundy.

Jason's 'top' village Burgundy (67 Pall Mall): I found this somewhat challenging - not surprising, given I'm a slight wholebunchphobe. Banana sweets and acetone on the extremely bright, stemmy, high-toned nose, that verged on the confected but luckily settled down with air. Tasty on the palate, rather pretty, but primary and with a bitter finish.

Jason’s ‘top’ village Burgundy (67 Pall Mall): ‘Grappes Entiers’. Lighter coloured, purple tinged ruby hue. Floral lift with fraises de bois that comes through on the palate as a strawberry confiture. Vanilla topnotes. Strawberry and. Little lighter and brighter. Not quite the mid palate density currently, but so pretty. ****
