4/23/2024 - pbaek wrote: NRLight red color. Funky, earthy bouquet, barnyard notes. Lean bodied for a 2003, airy fruit, certainly ripe Grenache. Stones, pepper, a green hint. This is drinking very, very well right now. Impressive, as always. With Jesper in BeF. |

Served blind in a lineup of South American wines. Will develop more, but very good now. A wine to contemplate |

Sweet and savory, seemingly pale and light but with deceptive power and persistence. Haunting wine. This will improve for two decades. |

4/17/2024 - Jeremy Holmes wrote: NRSourced from the Europvin library, this looked like it had been re-corked at some stage. It was simply wonderful. It had an incredible perfume of violets, pine needles, lavender, raspberry and spiced plum. It was full and rich and layered. There was a gentle meatiness and the wine possessed real latent power. It had so much volume and was silky and expansive. |

4/17/2024 - KPB Likes this wine: 92 pointsI really like this wine, although it isn’t yet at what will be its peak. Light cranberry color, nose showing red licorice, musk, tobacco, spice. Taut in the mouth with a kind of nervous energy, very long, mineral finish. |

4/12/2024 - joshabramson Likes this wine: 97 pointsLots of fresh strawberries and spice, beautiful aromatics! I rated this 99 points the first time I tried it, but I’ve drank a lot of Rayas since then and am probably being more critical now as a result… but make no mistake, this is very delicious! |

4/11/2024 - pbaek wrote: NRNot much has changed in 3 1/2 years. The color is golden, there are marks of orange confit, bees wax, honeyed fruits, pepper and Asian spices. Very good acidity which keeps this on the fresh side. Lively, complex wine. Mature, I think, but then again - consistent notes over many years now. |

4/11/2024 - 831900_ Likes this wine: 97 pointsSeductive aroma of strawberry leaf, forest floor, and some dark berry fruit. Near perfectly balanced in the mouth, the viscosity and the acid and the body are lovely together – it seems both sort of impossible and like an ideal Chateauneuf du Pape. Just a suggestion of glycerol rounds the mouthfeel out as it heads into a long and just a bit hot & peppery finish. Decanted 2.5 hours before drinking. |

4/10/2024 - EvoPeteMTL Likes this wine: 94 pointsI actually really enjoyed this vintage of les Rayas because it's more ready to drink. I was also quite surprised by the lighter color of the wine (lighter extraction, or ripeness?) vs. the 2009 and 2010. |

4/8/2024 - pbaek wrote: NRThere’s a green streak running through the bouquet and I’m thinking this must be whole bunch. Airy, elegant fruited palate, pepper notes, cherry fruit, ripe, sweet Grenache with great purity and lift. Asian spices underneath. Singular wine without a doubt. And grand vin in the bottle. No hurry here, this is quietly intense. |

Excellent concentration, generous sweet ripe black fruit, rich and deeply toned, bright acidity, earth mineral and a long ripe black fruit driven finish with licorice at the end. Justin is a bit disappointed for not finding "white pepper" and I agree. This is a bit riper and more black fruit driven than ususal. |

Beautiful nose displaying very ripe yellow fruit, pear, peach, peach marmalade, caramel apple, strong beeswax and limestone. Excelled concentration, layers upon layers of ripe yellow fruit, rich and deeply toned but also showing a nice balance, bright acidity, fine mineral, and a long ripe yellow fruit driven finish with beeswax at the end. This is a unique mineral driven wine. |

4/6/2024 - Mrbuzz Likes this wine: 95 pointsVINTAGE 2010 Dinner (Galletto Ristorante, Modesto Ca.): This was up there with the Vatan as the most intriguing wine to drink. Slight heat at first, but air integrated it nicely to this WAXY pitted orchard fruit of goodness! Wonderful texture...more subtle than power...brightened with lemon squeeze and pineapple cut...apricot marmalade, honey, nice dry salt rock salinity...pretty blossom florals...age has brought out some lovely antique wax and lanolin oil...but plenty freshness and lift...really dug it as it got warmer in the glass. Liked it better than the 10 Rayas Rouge! Blend of 50-50 Clairette and Grenache Blanc. |

4/6/2024 - Mrbuzz Likes this wine: 94 pointsVINTAGE 2010 Dinner (Galletto Ristorante, Modesto Ca.): This was decanted all day...darker and more sauvage, showing black cherry and Kirsch liqueur...some high toned blood orange acidity, dusty earth spice...the fruit not as "pretty" red as the 11 we had last month...still VERY intriguing complexities that kept coming with every sip! Wonderful perfume of florals of crushed berries...some white pepper spice, old leather...rhubarb and red licorice dryness...still has a lot of crushed rock and some tobacco...but that damn 2005 we had a few years ago still has me searching for that amazing red fruited elegance and haunting perfume...this 2010 seems more serious, and probably in need of many more years. Still, a true pleasure to drink one when you can! |

3/30/2024 - PJRONeill Likes this wine: 95 pointsAbsolutely gorgeous, in a perfect spot for current drinking. Maybe just a tad lightweight given the vintage, goodness knows what this must be like in a better year, but I’m nitpicking. Delicious sweet red fruits and lovely purity. Red of the year so far for me. |

4/3/2024 - LB88 wrote: 95 pointsThis was absolutely a revelation, it was drinking beautifully with the balance and poise of a great wine but yet this was only a baby. I ve had many different vintages of rayas reserve and I would count this as one of the best I ve ever had. Better than the superb approachable 08 and the great 05. I ve never had the 1990 but I understand that this could be even better than that. This can only get better from here. |

4/2/2024 - EvoPeteMTL Likes this wine: 94 pointsPop and pour, sort of. Much more open than the '09. Again, the strawberry and red orange is there. There is definitely more age\evolution on this one. Vs. the 2009 we felt this has the lesser potential. But more open for business now. Great wine. Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Comments (5) |
