5/2/2012 - Roberto_1 wrote: 93 pointsContinuing to improve. Open nose of right bank Bordeaux with spice, dark fruits, orange peel. The palate, while still hinting at youth, is in a good place with a nice balance of structure and fruit. Another success from '98 and a good value. |

1/24/2012 - Roberto_1 wrote: 96 pointsA strong young Mouline. Give it time. All of the essential elements are there for greatness. It has the leather/animal dense kirsch quality of the La La but hung on a slightly more petit frame. The nose is still primary but hints at future complexlity with nuances of spice and coffee. |

10/25/2011 - Roberto_1 wrote: 93 pointsConsistent character to prior bottles but just beginning to hint at mature characteristics while still youthful. For my palate this bottle is a hybrid of the classic and modern styles. It is Barolo but has a clean, fresh quality that I like. |

10/25/2011 - Roberto_1 wrote: 94 pointsThis was Grand Cru Red Burg. The nose had Vosne spice and dense, red-black fruits with a hint of earth. The palate was concentrated but balanced. Further evidence that Grivot excelled in '02. |

3/31/2011 - Roberto_1 wrote: 92 pointsThis wine is young but has great potential. The young, somewhat ripe nose is somewhat open and enjoyable. I could smell clove, dark red fruit and hints of earth. The palate at first offered ripe, primary fruit and balanced acidity but then after an hour started to close down and become dominated by acidity with the fruit backing off. It went very well with dinner but seems to be years away from its full potential which is not a surprise really! |

2/9/2011 - Roberto_1 wrote: 91 pointsThis is the 3rd bottle I've had of this wine purchased on release. The last bottle was about 2 years ago and the thing that struck me with the current state of the wine is how much it has become "classic" and dropped some of the modern notes it had displayed in the past. This wine has red cherry, tar and leather on the nose. I did not detect any wood aromas. The palate follows with sour cherry and firm tannin. You should open this bottle with food. It is still a baby but appears to be headed for a long life. |

1996 Château La Mission Haut-BrionPessac-Léognan Red Bordeaux Blend more |
1/1/2011 - Roberto_1 wrote: 92 pointsAn potentially outstanding example of La Mission. This wine is young and somewhat closed at this time. I find that La Mission tends to put on weight with time and expect that this classic bottling will continue to improve over the next several years. Now, the nose is typical La Mission with wet earth, black fruits, tar and asphault. The palate still has the restrained tension, minerality and austerity that I often find in this house. the oak is not obtrusive. The fruit is compressed but the balance is there with the firm but round tannins. I get no harshness in the finish and think this will be one of the longer-lived '96's. |

12/31/2010 - Roberto_1 wrote: 89 pointsGood freshness on the palate. It is citrusy, linear and steely but to me and lacks some of the fat and roundness in the mid-section that other great vintages display. This may be a function of age and I am hopeful that all will come together. |

12/31/2010 - Roberto_1 wrote: 90 pointsI opened opened and decanted my first bottle from my futures purchase given the positive press I've seen. I was overwhelmed by oak on both the nose and palate. Yes, there is definite concentration and black fruit on the palate and notes of leather but why so much oak? I thought that this big wine was somewhat imbalanced based on the density and extraction covered with oak. PB is a wine I have enjoyed in prior vintages and felt that this bottle represented a change in style. To my palate it was not recognizable as Bordeaux or PB and could have been from any number of places in the world. Still, for a moderned-styled dry red wine this could be a crowd pleaser and I enjoyed it from that perspective. |

12/14/2010 - Roberto_1 wrote: 92 pointsDecided to try one of these as some of my 2000 red burgs are opening. While potentially much better his wine is still too young in my opinion. The nose while somewhat closed does open with swirling to show spicey, red fruit with a floral note underpinned by balsa wood. The palate is still primary and does show excellent balance between fruit and structure. The wine has the lacy element I find it better bottlings from this site. This wine is not dominated by oak and should age gracefully. |

12/14/2010 - Roberto_1 wrote: 92 pointsThis bottle was singing. Blind I would have guessed Pomerol. Black fruit, tar and leather on the nose. Deep, rich almost sweet fruit, with firm tannins and a long finish. If there is a flaw it is that the tannins are somewhat grainy. |

12/10/2010 - Roberto_1 wrote: 91 pointsThis wine was surprisingly open for it's age and appellation. Distinctly red burgundy on the nose with cinnamon, underbrush and dark red fruits. The nose was a bit shy compared to the palate which was full of cruchy ripe, red fruit and healthy acidity. I thought of '99 cote de beaune wines when I had this in my mouth. The wine is clearly young but seems to be in good balance and should age nicely. For the money this is a great value. I wish I had bought more on release! |

12/3/2010 - Roberto_1 wrote: 93 pointsI'm going to stay 93 on this with notes consistent from my last tasting about a year ago. That said, this is a sleeper vintage of LMHB and a great value if you look at how much current vintages cost. The nose again showed scortched earth, cigar box and licorice notes. The palate on this bottle was a little more angular and thin on fruit upon opening compared to my notes from prior bottles but after a few hours of warming in the bottle (not decanted) the wine really opened. I love the complexity and elegance of LMHB and this bottle had it. The fruit was almost primary after aeration. In fact, this wine has fattened in the middle with aging and I have to wonder when this wine will stop improving. No, this is not the '89 or '75 but a damn good example of the house. |

11/21/2010 - Roberto_1 wrote: 92 pointsOpen-knit nose of dark red fruit, baking spices and underbrush all woven together in an almost exotic combination. The palate has reached maturity in my opinion and has decent structure and acidity to match the ripe fruit. This wine does not have the over-ripe or stewed quality that many '90's have. The finish is a little grainy but still this is quite a success and a great wine. |

10/14/2010 - Roberto_1 wrote: 91 pointsI opened this after reading a positive note. Yes, this wine is drinking well but if you do open one please give it a few hours of decanting. The wine is so young now but it is seems to be on the edge of surging forward as evidenced by the change for the better with decanting. Upon opening the wine was pretty closed down. With swirling the initially closed nose started to smell of under-ripe cherries and red fruit. The nose then added a spicey dimension with some clove and cocoa. The palate showcased the purity and silkiness I find in d'Angerville. The fruit is a little crunchy yet has a succulence and savoriness that keeps your interest. Yes, this wine is from Volnay. The winemaking seems to take a back seat to place and I find this wine to be transparent and exiciting. I can only imagine how good the other sites will be. This wine should only get better from here. |

9/26/2010 - Roberto_1 wrote: 91 pointsNotes from a mixed tasting are somewhat limited but this is an an exceptional wine. It does have a dusty finish and is still closed but does offer bright, red fruit and a sexy, feminine package. The wine is driven more by finese than power but that is what I look for in Amoureuses. Should get much better with time. |

The score might seem high as the wine is still somewhat awkward but after a few hours of air the purity of fruit and balance is impressive. This is still a baby but has oh so much potential. Grand Cru quality for sure. |

9/26/2010 - Roberto_1 wrote: 94 pointsThis wine was somewhat closed initially and had a slightly golden color. With effort the nose was identifiable as Leflaive but really did not show the fireworks I associate with this wine. I decanted it and put it aside for an hour. When I came back WOW. This wine opened and was a ringer for a grand cru. You gotta love Pucelles. This wine had the buttered popcorn and gunpowder I often find in these wines. The fruit was dense on the midsection with just enough acidity to keep the wine taught but inviting. This wine is only going to get better and was better than the Bienvennues Batard which I had recently. |

8/21/2010 - Roberto_1 wrote: 93 pointsThis wine has matured nicely and while still on the younger side offers the aromatics of fine right bank Bordeaux. The wine had an interesting dairy note - like smelling fresh milk. In the mouth it had ripe tensioned fruit. The tannins are a little firm on the back end and I think that is more a vintage issue than an Angelus issue. |

The fruit is plumy and round. The ripe tannins are noteable but easily covered by the fruit. If you are in the mood for a generous but now over the top Bordeaux Rouge this bottle would do the trick. |
