Nose of stewed lemon, pineapple, pear blossoms, and petrol/rubber hose. This still has a fair amount of acidic zip in the mouth. The fruit flavors have rounded with age, citrus, spice, apricot pit. Finish is long. Pretty interesting stuff.
Saved a few of these based on how well aged Eyrie Pinot gris has shown over the past decade. Who says Pinot gris (from the right source, in the right hands) can't age?

My favorite of the last four Eyrie Pinot gris vintages (2006-2009). Nice with our grilled turkey burgers. Upon release, this wine was delicious with zippy acidity. Over the last year and a half the acidity has evolved and given a feeling of weightiness, even some creaminess. Contrary to others' notes, this wine see NO OAK. Fermented and aged in stainless, though the full malolactic fermentation lends roundness and creaminess to the wine. Fruit is still there, on the nose and the palate.

Very interesting wine. The characteristics remind of a pinot gris and chardonnay combined as it has ripe mellon flavors, iron and minerality, and a hint of vanilly with creamy oakiness to it. Very good and much more unique than other pinot gris in the valley. However, not what one would expect either.

More or less consistent with the previous bottles I've had. Pinot Gris can be a quirky grape, and this is a quirky wine. It is far from a great wine, but it is interesting, balanced despite its quirks, and enjoyable. Still drinking well, but I think the window is closing.

Color dark saturated golden yellow, medium-full body. Bouquet of spices, flowers, sweaty funk, notes of petrol, with cut pears and pineapple more in the background. Loads of spice on the palate, along with petrol, flowers, guava, and pear. Noticeable weight and viscosity on the tongue. Lengthy finish carries touches of cardamom and white pepper, along with fruit, caramel, and a little petrol. Acid is intact but it feels like this is lacking a bit of freshness, and elements of the bouquet suggest it's a little beyond the apex of peak maturity. Longtime fans of Eyrie, this was a solid 89, and a pretty good pairing with sushi, as well as an excellent value at 15. Drink up.

Golden color, rich, more viscous than a recent Friulano that was spectacular, but without being too heavy in the body. Mineral-y with lemon and melon, and a hint of vanilla. Milder acid than I expected.

An elegant clear, pinkish-orange color in the glass. The nose is sweet and pleasant and somewhat piquant with a note of passionfruit. The overall flavor however is a bit thin and finishes quickly. On the plus side it is quite smooth and balanced. I recommend this wine as a thirst quencher on a hot day.

Deep straw color, darker than most Pinot Gris coming out of Oregon. Nice citrus that comes through some heavy notes that are almost toasty, charry oak-like in nature. It's a very different style of Pinot Gris that you typically see, one that should interest the California Chardonnay lovers out there. The wine is a nice, different style of the varietal. Letting it breathe a bit is definitely a must. Even pouring through an aerator fleshing out the wine a bit and makes it more enjoyable in the glass. A nice showing from a producer that's helped build up the Oregon wine industry.

Dark golden color. Aromas of honey, melon, and pears with all three flavors on the palate. Slightly off-dry flavor made it an excellent accompaniment to shrimp scampi. More body than a typical pinot gris with a long finish. Good acidity balances the sweetness. Overall an excellent and interesting wine.

Dundee Hills Tasting Event In Portland (Portland, OR): There's a hint of charcoal scent on the palate, along with some red apples. It's kind of like roasting a red apple over a campfire. The red apples deliver on the palate, with the peels intact. Everything is clean, and the acidity dries things out late on the finish while the wine retains a soft touch overall.

Well, not a summer quaffer, that's for sure. Has a surprisingly deep copper hue to the color, not terribly unusual for the variety but I was still taken aback by it, and it tastes heavy and unattractive: has a bit of that bad California chardonnay-style lacticity, and the alcohol (listed at 13.5%) is stinging. Couldn't drink much of this and the rest will become a sauce.

Pure orange rind in the aroma this time. Orange and amaretto flavors on the palate with a lingering amaretto vanilla finish. More settled than the last time I had it, better integrated, better structured, and overall a better bottle. Would be interesting to see where this is in 2-3 years.

Excellent. Nose full of minerals and orange blossoms. Very thick mouthfeel, but with enough acidity that it doesn't come off flabby. A real crowd pleaser and great QPR.

Wines on the Woodley Park Rooftop (Washington, D.C.): golden color, almost a tint of orange. the nose is really mineral-driven, gravelly almost with some nice orange rind. i totally would've guessed old world, maybe austria or something. it's got zesty acid but good body. still lots of minerals on the palate here. almost a bit of almond on the finish.
Very interesting pinot gris here. Heavy minerals with petrol on the nose in addition to some tantalizing honey and apple flavors. Showing really well and performed much better at room temperature than after being pulled from storage.

Needs 30+ minutes to open. Nose of lime and fleur d'orange. Touch of oak. Great honeyed mouthfeel. Tastes like lemon-lime/fleur d'orange air freshener. Acidity kicks in after the mid-palate, like someone squeezed a meyer lemon into your cheeks. Well-balanced.

Deep golden color with orange highlights. Kiwi and pear notes in the aroma. Minerals and spices on the palate, with a hint of spritz, evolve into a lingering butter and vanilla finish. I have mixed feelings. On the one hand, an interesting, slightly racy, enjoyable wine. On the other hand, a little over engineered and a little over the top - and yes, I do get strong oak flavors even if they're not really there. Bottom line: at $16 it's well worth the price of admission.

Clear and silvery, with a faint tinge of pink showing medium viscosity. On the nose, the wine shows exotic notes of honeycrisp apple, clementine, orange flower water, spring honey, and mineral. The wine is textural on the palate, finishing with clean acidity and medium length. Very balanced New World Pinot Gris with just over 13% alcohol. From America's first producer of this varietal. Suggested retail: $17

Epic poop on the nose suggests reduction, but it's sealed with a cork. I like that, but it's not everyone's cup of tea. There's also some lemon and brioche. On the palate, acidic, dry and medium-bodied, with a subtle creaminess. Very full-flavored, but very little fruit - a little lemon. Lots of minerality and dirt, some barnyard, and a little heat. Very old-world in style (but not the crappy Italian Pinot Grigio type). $18

I have edited this note because why I swore (swore!) there was an overt oak influence and perhaps lees stirring, I've been informed that this is not the case; the wine rests on the lees in steel and malo is not blocked. So much for my palate. So you may want to ignore my opinion about this wine, too: I found it flat and rather hum-drum like a dull Friulano. It's not rich as many an Alsatian pinot gris, which to a point is a good thing, and it's completely dry, yet the spicy zing I look for in pinot gris is not there. The Eyrie Vineyards may produce one hell of a pinot noir, but I was not taken with this wine (nor was I taken by their 2005 pinot gris).
