As before, put almost the whole btl in a coq au vin, but had a few sips. This is not drinking well at all. Tired, stripped down, acidic, lean and mean. This wine was never good, and has not aged well of course. For cooking, however, just fine.

Served from magnum. The very first notes while tasting prior to serving showed elements of petroleum and terpintine with underlying ripe red fruits. After being opened for 30 minutes the wine was served along side mushroom stuffed Cornish game hen and roasted brussels sprouts with walnuts. The wine is very dark for a Bourgogne. As it opened in the glass and through out the meal the ripe red fruits bloomed and were complimented by the present dark minerality. Towards the end of the three hours that the bottle was opened the minerality faded and was replaced by distinct cedar box aromas. All in all this was a very nice wine from a good producer and a great vintage.

Nice and expressive nose, robust dark plum and cherry with good supporting spice. Fairly lean to medium concentration on the palate, with good strong acids, iron, and the dark red fruit is also well represented. Good amount of tannin and heft here for a BR. This really outperformed expectations. Good to drink now or over the next five years easily. The nose really resonated with me, complex, with depth of flavor and savory elements. Paired well with rib eye.

Nice nose of black cherries, a little rustic and went well with some stewed lamb and vegetables. Dusty tannins, nice acidity, abit ripe and "grapey" for me. Nothing really wrong with this but I prefer more elegance in my Burgundies.

Slightly less rustic than my bottle a year ago and beginning to show some signs of maturity with the fruit turning sweet. Still the acidity is prominent and there are significant tannins. I would hold this another 3-5 years.

I am not sure how this wine was when younger, but on this day there was an over powering medicinal taste that at first was very interesting but quickly even lost that.

Nice nose of baked cherry and iron-y damp earth. Light to medium bodied with medium+ acidity. Mix of sweet and tart cherry fruit. Rustic, with prominent tannin and some bark-y astringency that recedes a bit on Day 2. Better with food and perhaps unsurprisingly for an '05, even at this level, likely better in a few years.

From magnum. Was planning to take to a friend to serve with boxing day lunch he ws cooking. Opened at 11am. Bright red colour with a crisp, red fruited nose. Brutally acidic, tart, thin and bitter on the palate. Completely undrinkable. Recorked and left.
8 hours later, the wine has darkened in colour and somewhat in fruit profile on the nose and palate. Palate starting to integrate some of the acidity but still very tart and bitter on the short finish.
24 hours later. Mid palate now also integrated with a darker fruit profile that is starting to be drinkable, even pleasant!
30 hours later. The palate seems to have properly integrated the searing acidity and gained some nice weight of darker fruit. However, the tannins on the finish remain and clip it somewhat. Still, a remarkable transformation over a day and a half post opening.
54 hours later. Deep, dark colour, almost black now. Deep, black fruited palate profile with alluring nose. Acidity now fully integrated leaving gorgeous entry and mid palate. However, still some slightly drying tannins on the finish.
In magnum, these need another 5 years at least. Not surprising for faiveley.

2011 Casual Session - 11 @ ES (Extra Space Boon Keng): Alcohol :: 12.5% The nose and palate is rather easy, with chalk and mineral that dominated the aromas and flavors profile, with a touch of steely notes. Drinking nicely now with tannin and acid backbone that seems pretty much integrated with some orange peel bitterness at the short length finish. A real straight-forward Bourgogne that is drinking at it peaks now. Buy - No.

from 375mL, fresh and fruity nose (predominantly cherry) with some earthyness, surprisingly integrated palate with fine grained tannins, mouthwatering acidity; medium concentration, respectabel finish (12 caudalie, fading), great for this quality level reflecting the vintage, drinks beautifully now

Muted but pleasant nose of red fruits. Mid-palate is pretty hollow. Finishes with an awkward bitterness.
I am very disappointed that this was recommended to me. It was described as an everyman's burgundy from a great vintage. Every man must think wine should double as low-grade paint remover.
Utterly uninspired wine.

Takes awhile to open up, angular and tart, but the muted nose takes on some earth and sour cherry character. Sour cherry and nice red fruits come thru in the mouth, but the finish is short. Got better with 3 hours of air time. It will hang on to it's fruit for a few years or so. Reasonable Bourgogne if the price is right, $15 or less

A little thin for the vintage, but better than I expected given these notes. Maybe it has come around a bit in the last year or so. While not great, this was clearly Burgundy and had a nice acidity that went better with food than without. Nothing complex, but nothing offensive either. Worth drinking, but I probably won't buy it again.

Nose of cherry candy. Big tannins, high acid, sour cherries, leather, something briary. You could do better for the price, but it may even out in a few years if the tannins are less dry and the acid has calmed and merit a score a couple of points higher.

Kinda disappointed... oh well... Trying to be more scientific with my ratings, so here goes.....
Color/Appearance: 4/5 -- Crystal ruby, a little translucent, but it's pretty Nose/Bouquet: 10/15 -- Very nice, but reasonably simple aroma. Cherry, cedar, tobacco. None of that leathery or earthy smell I expect from pinot or burgundy. Flavor : 3/10 -- Not much of a flavor. Cherry jolly rancher, but not so intense. A little new world for burgundy. Thin mouthfeel. No acid or tannin. Finish: 5/10 -- Better than the flavor, and black pepper coat the finish that starts a bit hot, but quickly fades to a pleasant glow. Aging Potential: 2/5 -- It's pretty integrated, not very acidic, I don't know where it's supposed to be able to go somewhere Overall/Quality: 2/5 -- Highly recommended by wine store. Definitely not taking those suggestions again. Not only bad for the price, just not very good. Nice aromas compensate a little.

KNL Tasting: I feel like a tasted a different wine. This wine had mammoth tannins, completely drying the mouth. Not a lot of fruit, but lots of spices and earthiness. This isn't a friendly wine, at least now, but I found it interesting, and would be interested in trying it in a couple of years. 85-86

Had this over 2 nights along with the Rossignol L'Heritier. The Faiveley showed best on the first night. On the nose there was sweet cherry, flowers and a touch of spice. Nice and elegant. Very nice red fruits but somewhat austere. Right at the front you get a burst of fruit but the tannins catch on quick. On the second night (after being poured into a 375, the wine was seemed a little more tight. Pretty nice for $16.

Decent bourgogne, and certainly from a relatively warm year. There's not a ton of fruit, but it's certainly ripe. The wine is balanced and reasonably deep for its class. Doesn't really merit a recommendation on this showing, but I didn't find it overly lean/acidic (per other TNs).

Bright red in color. Nose of sour cherries and animale. A light-medium bodied wine that is relatively fruitless on a very tart note. Tannins are soft and the finish short.

Unspeakably bad. Score reflects the fact that it was likely made from fermented grape juice. Wasn't expecting much and it still disappointed. Shrill, thin, and falls apart almost immediately upon contact with air, with the fruit running for the hills and leaving tart acid and something vaguely leathery. Avoid.
