PnP. Nice light greenish gold. Nose if not flawed as previous bottle with classic Chablis notes of citrus and sea air with some riper orchard fruit in the background. A bit softer and riper than typical but eminently drinkable at age 13.

Mid yellow, the nose shows acacia honey and almond paste, indicating some evolution. There is still a floral note with chalk, mineral, yellow apple and pressed yellow flowers that give it attractiveness. Medium bodied with sweet yellow apple flesh on entry, apple skin texture and crisp acidity, it all starts well. However, the mid-palate turns up the almond paste mouth-coating sensation along with a plump sultana note that turns the yellow apple into a purée tinged with clove and cinnamon. The acid returned a little on the back palate, but I felt the wine just seemed to teeter on being too evolved. Medium finish. Seen better days

Excellent. A little more refined-austere than the 2010 Louis Michel opened over the weekend, and, with exposure to air, in it's prime, I think. I dare say, the LM has a swampy-saline side that, while less 'refined,' gives it scope for flavor-aroma development that I prefer to this. But both are excellent. I'll try to dig out a 2010 Picq Vosgros soon to complete this short survey of 2010 1er Chablis.

Double blind. Orchard fruit aromas with some tropical notes. Mid-weight and mature fruit with a clear Chabls-like personality of chiseled fruit, minerality and sea breeze. I was in Chablis but guessing ~5 years older. Showing more advanced than I'd like for a 2010 of this quality.

Mature apple with fall flowers, good density and length, just more mature than ideal. Drinking well, but probably better a few years back, which is sadly too common with many 2010s.

Decanted an hour before tasting. Classic Chablis with supreme typicity. Flinty citrus, great acidity and texture along with green apple and under-ripe pear with the pear emphasized more on the finish. This wine got better and better over several hours at cool room temperature. Better on its own than with my lobster and fennel risotto despite a half cup or so being used in its preparation. No signs of advance age. Really excellent

This was apparently an unrecorded btl somehow? Or accidentally deleted from CT earlier. Either way I'm extremely happy to have had one more than expect! Stored in my cabinet since release and in excellent condition. Light gold green color. Enveloping sea shore and citrus aromas. A resolved but still energetic array of citrus, light brine, mineral and pear. Simply stunning from a great vintage. Loved it with fresh halibut. 13%alc. 94+

Yellow with some green. Dull citrus and iodine with some wood showing. Really glycerine feel due at least partly to the oak, but very good depth and complexity, with excellent interplay between the fruit and more brothy elements. It could have used more acidic thrust, though. This strikes me as unexciting and just about at peak.

Fantastic bottle, starting with the first unmistakable oyster shell aromas on the initial pour. Although bone dry there are hints of honeycomb and dried fruit with a dose of lemon curd on the finish. While there is plenty of '10 fruit, it's the MdT backbone that drives and unifies the other flavors. Nice acid.

Opened to serve with seasoned prawns cooked on the barbecue. Tasting note is from a very small pour as everyone loved the wine and laid claim to the bottle. Classic aromas of ocean tide pools, Meyer lemon, green apple, and pitted orchard fruit. Very elegant and silky on the palate with an almost lanolin like texture. Good length that matches the aromatics with a touch of limestone on the finish. A lovely wine that should continue to hold well, but there is no reason to deprive yourself of a wonderful wine at present. Outstanding!

Phew. I’ve sat on a bunch of 2010 Billaud Chablis, popping 1-2 a year, with zero premox. Then, last week, a poxed ‘10 Mont de Milieu. Uh-oh. So I grabbed this to see if the rest are still good, and this bottle said yes. Lovely, semi mature Chablis, with oyster shell, minerals, and nice depth and length. Drained quickly by the table. Still, I’ll drink the rest soon. 91-92 pts

Dinner with John and Kat (St Claudes): Initially served too cold. As it warmed up, the wine revealed its origins. Saline, mineral, chalk overlying the lemon and crisp peach fruit. It’s very moreish.

91-92 pts

Sumptuous wine. Nose was pear and citrus with an overlay of "ocean". Incisive palate, full and integrated, with fruits balanced with acidity. Second day, after gassing the half bottle remaining, it had come together even more. In its drinking window, but will hold for another decade. Excellent.

Deep gold colour. An attractive bouquet of seashell in tidal pool, pear, peach, lemon, green apple and a dash of spice. Precise and focused. On palate, at near Grand Cru quality. Linear, driven and rapier-like. Yet not lacking in fruit or density. Rich and full. Refreshing but well-aligned acidity. Pear, grapefruit and chalk. Very well balanced. Drinking well now but no hurry needed.

As in my 2016 TN, unsurprisingly for a Chablis from a great vintage and an excellent 1er climat, a top 1er Chablis, of a quality approaching Grand Cru level. No sign of premox in this bottle. Colour quite deep gold. A bouquet of pear and nectarine, lemon zest and wet oyster shell with a touch of spice. Richer and fuller on palate than you expect from the bouquet. Well balanced and seamless. Acidity nicely alligned. Pear, nectarine, yellow apple, grapefuit and chalk. Probably now on its optimal drinking plateau. I doubt it'll improve materially from here.

Plutôt riche pour le millésime et l’appellation, il montre une belle complexité, une finale très saline. Un style plus joufflu que tendu, donc moins classique, mais tout de même très bien. 91-92

Straw colored with great aromatics: ocean spray salinity, lemon zest, white floral, and limes. Medium bodied with good acidic uplift on entry. The acidity settles down in the mid palate where lemon and citrus notes pick up. A clean finish with 45 second length with background chalk and limestone. Would have scored modestly higher with brighter acidity.

87 pts

Served blind. Lemony palate, some anise on the nose, served way too cold let's see where this goes. First guess was Meursault, then another more astute taster called Chablis. Too cold to properly evaluate, but I didn't sense a blockbuster here, just a solid Chablis.

I'd agree with BH high rating here. This is grand cru quality. A blast of ocean spray, yellow fruits, crushed rock. So saline. Young seeming and very much a product of the great 2010 vintage. This might not be zippy enuff for complete acidheads, but I didn't find it lacking. This will go for 10 more years. Excellent.

(Blind tasting) Full, elegant, and quite complex nose. Yellow apple, mineral, pear. Pure fruit, still youthful. Chablis-oyster. Some vanilla oak only elegant. Medium-fullish, round, harmonius. Intense and elegant fruit. Some youghurt-malo notes. Good grip. Elegant and restrained. Cellar 2-3 more years for gun-smoke and mineral expression. Solid.

Pale lemon yellow. Fresh, vibrant aromas of crushed rocks, soft galia melon and lemon juice. On top is apple puree, gentle spice and pear flesh. The entry has a fine, penetrating acidity that is powerful with more breadth in the mid-palate than expected and plenty of flesh to balance the wine nicely. There is a savoury twang to the wine, intriguing and remarkably approachable - not the chiselled expression that I was expecting. Plenty of apple and pear flesh to the core of the wine; there is purity and poise that gives it edges yet soft edges! Medium to long length, there is complexity and whilst not quite Grand cru is a stand out premier cru example! Loved the power and acidity of this classy wine that is threaded with freshness, purity and delicacy.

This bottle was a victim of 'buy as much damn 2014 Chablis as you can possibly afford and have room to store' strategy of 2016/17, needed cellar space, this had to go. Again, a really nice experience as the wine is certainly rich and very clean but by no means fat nor even exotic for that matter. In fact, I couldn't really detect the acidity as a component but it certainly had to be present, probably buried under the wealth of mixed yellow fruits and the like. As the wine warmed it seemed to gain into the prototypical Chablis spectrum, with bits of flint and a powdery chalk like residue providing a nice closing to a very well made wine. My best guess would be to drink this sooner rather than later, maybe now and over the next 4 years or so.

While this is not a bad wine, it seems a little too ripe or lacks some acidity to be classic Chablis. A bottle of the '10 Mont de Milieu opened the same night was pre-moxed and I'm wondering if this is going too. Definitely not up to the rave BH score. Perhaps too young? Have had much better on a QPR basis.

Took with us to visit our longtime friends, Rick & Lynn, in Austin TX. Probably the single best btl of Chablis you can buy for the money from any producer. My last of 4. Wish I had 4 more! Most rewarding that night was Rick saying; " This is chardonnay?" "I've never had chardonnay like this before, most are so buttery." Fantastic as always! Better yet with old Dubuque Ia friends from the late 70s during a fun 70 degree plus weekend in Austin. Paid $40.

Two Chablis: A classical Chablis 1er of approaching Grand Cru quality. The colour of pale gold. A rich, ripe bouquet. Citric with pear and other orchard fruit. Also, stony, steely minerality, with oyster shell and saline nuances. On palate, steely, precise and mineral. Very clean and pure. Lovely, sparkling acidity. Intense and muscular. Citric flavours - lemons and grapefruit - pears and nectarines, without tropical fruit notes. A fine mineral spine, finishing quite long and dry. Complex with good palate weight. Hopefully, if it survives premox, with another five years under its belt, this MdT will be even better.

Jimmy's btl tonight and this one rocked as usual. Easily, the best Chablis I had tonight and WOTN, for me. This shows the strength of the vintage with it precision, concentration and intensity. Everything you want from Chablis is here. Minerally, citrusy, saline and ocean sea breeze. Such a classic! This wine is great now but should mellow a smidge with age and take on even more depth. I only have one left so I need to sit on my last btl for at least 3yrs minimum. If, heaven forbid, I was forced to cellar only one Chablis producer, Billaud Simon would be it. Amazing value here too, for around $40.

Having this wine last night, it’s safe to say I am officially in the fan club of this wine, and I see what all the fuss is about. Very little in the way of traditional fruit descriptors, instead very floral and ever so slightly rich, the wines underlying structure delivers on its balance and precision, remarkable consistent on the palate from entry to finish. A bit of cleansing iodine and chalk on the back half. Sure it should age, bit this is drinking just fine at present. Pull the damn cork, you won’t regret it.

This thing is drinking so well. It has complex aromatics of citrus, salt, butter and white flowers. It is full and rich yet has terrific detail. Flavours really build through the palate and converge on a singular point of geological matter. The finish is dry, chalky and long.
Lovely notes of lemongrass, quince, tarragon, loads of lemon-lime, fairly full-bodied with an oily coating. Good cut and gooseberry sourness to balance the fruit. Very nice, I don't get much minerality, this could pass for a killer NZ Sauvignon blanc.
Even better with 24 hrs of air... Deeper and stonier. 91-92 pts.

CT drinking window, FWIW, says its not ready for primetime yet. However, this was pop and pour good.Crisp, minerals, a bit of citrus. This is good stuff. Had this with crabcakes and it was a great pairing. The palate was better than the nose and usually the nose is such a highlight with Chablis. Perhaps a little lemon on the nose.

PnP As usual, this remains my overall favorite btl of Chablis for the money. This is essentially a $40 Grand Cru in my book. Pale green gold. Intense, sappy, energetic, powerfull, stony with predominently citrus but also some stone fruit. Complex! Chablis! Everything, I for one, want from Chablis. Open for business and drinking very well tonight with whole trout. I should have bought a case of this vintage.

92+ pts

Odd showing. This was herbal and grassy like a Sauvignon Blanc, with hints of gooseberry. It did not show particularly Chablis, unless maybe a ripe '09 or tropical '06. I thought maybe a night of air would bring it into focus, but it didn't change over night. Not what I want in Chablis. With about ten screaming kids running around the house.

Overall, reticent and lean, but transparent and pure. I can't even describe this wine with tangibles like "clear fruit", but instead have to rely on nebulous adjectives like: pure, fresh, transparent. Nose is faint, but smells very pure, faint lemon. Palate is pure and clear, with light lemon, very clean, no overt oak. There is some Chablis-ness to this, but I am struck by how very lean this is showing. It's lean, reticent and needs to bulk up. That said, it delivers a beam of freshness and purity. Clearly, very young,
On the next night, not much change. I was hoping for improvement, I wanted it to fill out for more current appeal. The wine is still very lean, and has not filled out much at all. Some lemon/lime briskness to the palate, but otherwise just as lean as the first night. The last glass shows the best, with lime, mineral, dry extract, still very lean. This could use more midpalate presence. If this fills out, it could be good. Right now, it's very lean, and I smile as I make up the word "antibulk" for this wine.
This is an infant right now.

Excellent.

Full, elegant, and quite complex nose.
