This bottle was not as good as the last one that was drunk in March. Lots of sediment stayed on the tongue even after using a filter. Maybe mishandled by the waiter who opened and decanted the wine that I brought in for a group meal. Similar notes, but not as expressive as the prior bottle.

This wine has really developed to something quite extraordinary for a low to mid $20 price point when initially purchased in 2012. almost 3 years since my last bottle and has developed further. It is super dark and rich, full-body, smooth, well balanced with some intensity and acidity in mid-palate. Finishes with mild drying tannin that does not detract from the overall enjoyment. Rich dark fruits dominate with black cherry and some aged balsamic dominant. I would easily compare the current profile to some $75-$100 wines. Compares very favorably to its more expensive sibling at this stage. Maybe peaking but has a few more years left. Patience has paid off on this bottle. One more left in the cellar.

Termes and Termanthia tasted together; same colour, quite dark red; Termes rounded smooth nose, Termanthia more smoked, a bit of cigar; Termes rounded ready smooth; Termanthia requires air, tobacco, some tannins, 120 yrs old vines; Termes ready to drink; Termanthia - after some decant - quite fine, but clearly lots of potential; very different wines

I can agree with reviews saying its time to drink up; the wine has lost its bright red fruit. But the oak is fully integrated, dark fruit is mature, super smooth and concentrated. There’s also still a healthy amount of acid so the wine is in no way flat. So if mature wines are your thing, this wine is in a great window and should continue to be for 5 years.

Waited 6 years since my last bottle on this vintage. It is in a good place right now. Strong dark fruits and balsamic notes with nice freshness and acidity in mid palate that continues to a lengthy finish. Still a bit intense but manageable. No more harsh or gritty tannin as in 2013. Decanted for 30 mins. Not as fresh on day 2. Would rate a 91 on day 1 but only an 89+ on day 2.

Big, huge, fruit forward, black fruit, pruney. If what you want is tons of fruit, this wine delivers. And for a good price. Not a lot of subtlety here, but good big wine.

In my cellar the last 5 years. Tinto di Toro 100%. Black as a Petite Sirah. Healthy aromas of Blackberries and licorice and still lots of tannins on the back end. Intense fruit on the mid-palate followed by vigorous tannins on the lengthy finish. reminded me of the dry reds coming out of Douro Valley in Portugal. Very impressive. This is the ideal drinking window for me -- I like the tannin --but should continue to age well.

Etihad Business CLass & Lounges; 11/20/2017-11/24/2017 (Sydney, Abu Dhabi, Frankfurt): {cork} Dark appearance but oxidised note on the aromas. The special selection on EY8, so who knows how long it was open. Baked blackberry and melted liquorice but warm and stale and a bit volatile too. Little tannin, trembling acidity and a rather harsh texture, with a short finish veering on searing. Fairly nasty all round.

We enjoyed this more than the last bottle in November 2015. I let it breath in the bottle for a hour or so then poured with an aerator. It was good on the first sip.
There is a little fruit and spice on the nose and nice legs and color in the glass. Medium to full body with dark cherry, toffee and almonds on the palate. It has a long, pleasant finish.
It is smooth and well balanced. There is no heat in spite of a hefty 15% alchohol.
If I was blindfolded I would probably mistake it for a California wine - perhaps a Sonoma Zin. It isn't complicated but is very pleasant alone and with a meal (lamb ragout).

Deep dark color and big nose of black fruit jam with a hint of charred oak. On the palate this has a soft initial texture but then the tannins kick in. Very good balance of cherry and dark fruit with a finish that lingers in your mouth like a shot of espresso. Incredibly long and tasty. Overall, I am impressed with this wine as great tempranillo. The only negative is the high alcohol, which you can feel the heat, but not a big detractor from the overall integration of the wine.

Others reviewers said the harsh tannins calm down with some air. I opened to let it breath a bit. The first wif was funky, earthy. The first taste was pretty tannic. The bouquet and tannins steadily improved in the glass. It was pleasant with dinner. A taste the next day was better. Day 3 it was also tasty. It has medium body, and good balance. A good food wine. I will probably sit on the remaining bottle until later in 2916.

Wow, what a terrific wine from classic Spanish vintage & equally stunning value. Bodega Numanthia creates among the upper tier of great Spanish wines, & middle of road value ($20) is no exception. This Tinto de Toro measured well against some shared big-name Cabs.

Big ripe fruit and oak driven wine but for me it's still balanced. Big dark fruit on the entry with slightly green briar patch, coco dust and leather. After a couple of day in the bottle it had become a bit more oak dominate so enjoyed a bit more with a short decant.

It always takes about 5 years for the oak to integrate on this Termes bottling. Once it does, it leaves a faint hint of potpourri on top of the deep, dark, black cherry liquored fruit. Tremendous extraction in this wine; it only threatens elegance with its satiny texture, but it is not entirely savage or rustic. The black cherry liqueur on the finish is a singularly toothsome characteristic of this ancient wine treasure.

Good wine, particularly for the price. It is heavy on the oak, but not unpleasantly so. On the full bodied side, with dark fruit once you are past the oak. Will finish the bottle tomorrow and see what changes.

Deeply saturated. Exuberant red fruit aromas. Medium weight, ripe forward fruit and a little spice. Little in the way of tannin-ready now, and it did not strike me as particularly alcoholic. Full of cheer, perfect for a sunny day and a light lunch.

From memory: Dark fruit, leather, wood and alcohol on the nose and palate. Absolutely massive – lots of sweet extract, but fairly one-dimensional and shamed by noticeable heat (I wouldn’t be surprised if 17% alcohol is closer to the truth than 15%). Not my cup of tea, but if you enjoy this style you could probably do worse than picking up some of these for +/- $30 – it’s definitely possible to pay at least twice that amount without getting anything materially superior.

Very dark red; soft nose, dark red fruit, caramel notes; soft velvety attack, lots of dark fruit, lots of tannins, integrating nicely but currently in need of a decant, tannins still quite pronounced; very nice and has definitely developed in a positive way

Deep color, no fading. The nose shows dark red fruits, flowers, oak, earth, and tobacco leaf. This is medium full bodied on the palate with very good concentration and a surprising amount of finesse. The medium length finish features good acidity and slightly rustic tannins.

Ordered off the wine list at Jeff Ruby's on Christmas Eve. No formal notes. The Termes is always a good wine. I have enjoyed every vintage since 2003. This was my second taste of the '09. It did not disappoint. Loads of blueberry, espresso, and beautiful, balanced Tempranillo fruit and toasty oak. This wine is young and brash, but a worthy heir to the Termes of years past.

Aerated with a Vinturi, but wish I had decanted for 2-3 hours. A pretty nose of blackberry, espresso, red licorice, and forest floor. Velvety blackberry, espresso, flint, vanilla and firm tannins on the palate. Long finish. Full bodied. Will improve over the next 2 to 3 years.

Not yet ready. Had it at a restaurant in Vegas. Full bodied, dried dark fruit flavors, forest floor and somber notes. Tannins a bit rough. Decanted and improved somewhat with time and with food, but wait another 2 or 3 years. The sommelier said that the 09 was fruitier than the 08 - NOT, at least not in 2013.

This wine (100% Tempranillo) was presented in double-blind fashion to our Friday tasting group, with the bottle generously provided by D.L. Showing an opaque crimson robe, it follows with equally-youthful aromas and flavors of boysenberries, cassis, vanilla and spice. The wine is heavily-extracted, round, ripe and somewhat hot (ABV 15%), with big chewy tannins. The middle palate is solid and the finish is lengthy, albeit fiery. Give this one some time in the cellar and make sure that it is served at 60-65 degrees Fahrenheit. Drink 1/16-12/22.

Dark purplish color with a dense nose of ripe blackberries, raspberries, tobacco and chocolate. The palate is thick and creamy with flavors of dark berries, cigar box, licorice, mocha, and old world spice. This is very delightful with vibrant acidity, freshness and modern feel. The finish is long and velvety that stays for 20 seconds. Great job from Numanthia Termes! Drink now until 2020.

(Frederikshøj) Finely textured and high-toned modernly oaked Spanish wine, with black fruit, coffeee and some camphor. Somewhat different from other Toro wines like Terra d'Uro and Pintia which I remember as being both a bit more edgy and soft; this one could have been a Ribera del Duero. Lacked a bit in sweetness to accompany the outstanding deconstruction of traditional Christmas fare served by Wassim Hallal in this wonderful restaurant.

Enjoyed at Zambrano Wine Cellar in Fort Worth. This one was a nice full bodied wine, actually trumping the Clos de los Siete by a little bit. This wine was uncorked to a dark red stain. Immediately poured into glass. The nose was some sweet blackberry. This wine poured into the glass with a darker red full bodied hue. On the nose was smoke, leather, blackberry, oak, and a sweet spice. On the palate was some younger blackberry, earth, pumpkin spice, which was all there, but kind of swirling around. This one was definitely more earthy than the 2004 Ribera del Duero Pesquera, but I also think that the tannicity of this one is just grabbing these tones right now and shooting them right to the back of the mouth. A nice, YOUNG Termes for sure, worthy of aging for another 5-7 years. I'd really like to see how this one will integrate here in the next 1.5-2 years, because right now it's a bit disjointed. You can appreciate the layers that it will have in the future. Perhaps we should have decanted it for 45 minutes, but 1-2 years of aging is what this one really needs right now. Drink by 2020.

Did not take notes - had at Bone's steakhouse in Atlanta. Big nose (licorice, blackberry, black cherry) and oak/vanilla was very present but if you can get past that its very enjoyable (as prior taster noted, that is the dominant scent component at this stage of this wine's evolution) - 7 our of 8 preferred this to a base '09 Baudry Chinon. I preferred the Chinon but this was quite nice - big but enough acids & complexity to keep it interesting. 91+ Went very well with steaks. I will buy a couple of bottles and let them sit for a few years and hope for the oak to integrate...

Pop and pour and followed over an hour. Initial impress is: Oak. Licorice. Oak. Black cherry. Oak. Nose of wood staves. Did I mention oak? Timber! I can't tell the forest for the trees. Oak trees. Starts opening up to show black cherries, dark chocolate nd smoke smoky notes. A bit of soy sauce and sherry notes as well. But the oak dominates the wine.

Ordered off the wine list at Pescara in Rochester, MN. No formal notes. Everyone loved it and wanted a second bottle. Juicy and fruit-forward, but structured and balanced. Very food friendly. Double decanted about 30 minutes before serving. Purple wine, somewhat closed in but full nose. Big mouthfeel, chalky, moderate length. Gets better the longer it is aired. Slight heat in the finish. Would like to try one of these in a couple of years. Should be opened a minimum of two hours before serving and decanted.

Yes, it's simply infanticide to drink this wine right now, but if you must open up a bottle now, make sure to match it against a good beef bbq or smoked steak. The good news is that after about four hours of air it starts to relax somewhat.... Rich dark cherries, milk chocolate and pleasant enough vanilla from the oak persist. And the finish is quite long and engaging. If you can wait another year before you pop a bottle, I think you'll be quite rewarded for doing so. This is a borderline "outstanding" score right now, but it should climb a few points, and more importantly, the wine will develop some nice secondary characteristcs with time. I'm looking forward to revisiting once the current tannin attack has dissipated.

Love this stuff. Big, ripe, juicy blackberry with cocoa and spice. The tannins and minerals on the long finish keep the ripe fruit in check. Paired with a ribeye. It is young. Paired with a ribeye, that may have offset its youth.

Fairly excessive ratings for this. Very young with a lot of alcohol present. That being said, there was decent fruit present and the wine should improve over time. But right wine now, it needs to open up for at least 2 hours before it is worth drinking. I will approach again in at least a year.

Dark cherries, blackberry, spice, toast and even picking up some dark chocolate and molasses notes at it evolves with air. Full-bodied and dense with polished tannins leading to the long finish. This needs about 1-2 hours to open up, but when it does it really shines. (Drink 2013-2020) - 92 points

I agree with cjsadler. This is still quite young. Very drinkable, but nowhere near its prime. Tannins need to settle down some. Had it at a restaurant to pair with NY strip steak, which it did nicely. Typical tempranillo nose, has good characteristics of the Toro DOC. Cellaring will serve this vintage well. I'll be the "Wine Nazi" and tell it "Come back - two years!"

A nose of dark fruit and spice, dark purple in color. A full bodied red, with blackberry, cassis, espresso, finishes with spicy chocolate, an enjoyable wine, still young. www.winelx.com

Solid wine as always, but previous vintages were better IMO. Good QPR, would still recommend.

Dark and red fruit, wood and chocolate on the nose, ample tannin, but soft, and nice finish. The year has improved it and can't wait to see what happens to this vintage after one more.

Forward nose of coffee, chocolate, oak and a minty streak. Palate matched with ripe dark fruit and some alcohol. Very modern. Great now. Not sure if this will hold up for the long haul.

We served this wine with Thanksgiving dinner and it was a huge hit! You would think a white meat like turkey would not be the right choice for a cab, but it complmented it well. Tasty fruity taste and would need food to complete the taste. Outstanding value.

Initial impress is:
Oak. Licorice.

Youthful oak and tannins which will integrate with a year or three of bottle age. I'm going out to buy a case this week.
