A wonderful metamorphosis from two years ago. Very aromatic, with bright cherry and the garrigue of a forest floor after a rain. A kiss of cinnamon and roses, too. Very tart and grippy to start off the bottle but by two hours in it blossoms into juicy goodness. Gone are the green meanies of youth. Light body, very light tannins and enough acidic energy to go for another several years of development. Light ruby/garnet color- almost rose', with no sediment and a shiny, clear reflection. 5+11+16+8 = 90

Color is medium ruby with a bit of bricking. Nose shows cherry, spice, and earth. On the palate, sour cherry, raspberry, and herbs are met with a still significant acidity. Nice, long finish, but not yet fully open for business. Day 2 showed some softening of the acid and spreading of the flavors. I will wait a few more years before the next bottle -- very good for a sub-$30 Burgundy.

Splash decant and notes after 30 minutes. Very light, hazy ruby with very slight brick at the rim. No sediment. On the nose it leads with smoke and oak over redcurrant and roses in the background. A lot more expressive than it was a year ago but still, somewhat bashful. Dry and tart palate with plenty of acidity upon entry. The chalky minerality blasts through mid-palate and a subtle lingering of raspberry, cherry, and green herbs fade out through the finish. So much nicer than it was last year, and still playing in the AFWE division. 4+11+15+8 = 88

Still drinking well and apparently not shut down. Just a tad tannic but nothing that changes the perception of a fine village wine. Drinking very nicely.

Very nice village Burgundy. Followed a 2012 at the Drouhin tasting, and tasted much more than 2 years older, much more developed. Perhaps that was due to the provenance, it was purchased at a PA state store, where it sat at room temperature, upright.

Elegant mineral, light fruit, floral aroma with fungal overtones, light fruit on the entrance finishing a dark berry tannic finish. Refreshing sophisticated wine.. 55+12+15+7.

Notes after 8 hours open. Very light, dusty ruby color, about 60% saturated with quick legs and no sediment. Very closed on the nose - a little raspberry, spice, a touch of smoke and herbs. Light bodied, bright acidity, light tannins. Nicer with food than on its own but I'm finding it shallow and plain on the palate and to this taster, I don't get the hype. Maybe just too AFWE for me. Dry, short to medium finish. Might get better with time, as some here suggest. I hope so. If the nose weren't so flat, I would easily give another 2-4 points. 5+8+14+6=83

On the nose there's red cherry, mossy earth, smoke & caramel ~ On the palate it's medium bodied with moderate acidity & tannins & flavors of rhubarb, cherry, cocoa & leather ~ A great bottle of wine from an always reliable producer

Lovely nose of spice and earth. Sappy and silky on the palate with beautiful concentration of raspberry fruit that still felt light and pure. A superb value.

This is developing nicely. Soft fruity palate with a gorgeous bouquet. Finishes with moderate length. A very nice bottle of wine that should hit its peak in another few years.

This was a beautiful wine that was very well balanced and showed some nice fruit. When I first tasted it blind before I bought it I thought it was from Oregon. After opening a bottle I thought the same thing. Not terribly complex or long on the finish, but well-crafted and a good value

My third time with this wine in the last 3 weeks. I first sampled this at Drouhin in Beaune - I was impressed with the value in this modest Burg (though it bears a modest label, many know it contains Clos des Mouches 1er juice and other Beaune 1er Crus also). The second bottle I tried at home was not impressive - seemed disjointed and had an offputting nose...maybe a bad bottle, I hoped? This third bottle was back to the form I tasted at the Domaine. Classic pinot nose - with enough interesting leafiness to clearly push this towards Burgundy (not new world). The color is very light. This is surprising to some who are used to more extracted wines. But the wine has very good palate impact. Nice acid supports crunchy but ripe red berry fruit. This is a very fine companion to picnic-type foods...cured meats and cheeses. I like this a lot for what it is!

This was quite different then a bottle we tried at the Domaine last week. Less fruit, more lifted/chemical/herbal notes on the nose and didn't have the sappy sweet red fruits I was expecting. Not sure if this was an off bottle or just a bad time to open it (recently shipped to this side of the pond I think). I'll leave my bottles for a little while and see what happens.

France 2013 - Côte d'Or; 4/24/2013-4/26/2013 (Beaune): Tasted at the Domaine. This vintage is made up of young vines from the Beaune 1er blend. Really nice nose of delicate red fruits.. Lighter in body but with good structure and acidity. Very good drinking now, but can age 5-7+ years. Very good. 88+

Completely consistent with prior note. Served with Easter dinner and its lively, vivacious, engaging personality shouted spring, maybe even loud enough for the weather gods to hear.

Concentrated raspberry on the palate, very smooth, moderate complexity, very drinkable, good example of the terroir. Very worth the price and worth repeating.

Cherries and petrol on the nose. Very commercial in texture and weight. I'm really not impressed. Tastes like factory wine to me. No wonder I don't typically buy Drouhin region level wines. A mistake. Will wait at least a year before opening the other bottle of this wine.

I can't remember the last time I bought a Drouhin wine, not necessarily because of a specific bad experience but out of a general and probably misinformed sense of them as a factory. 2010 shook me out of my torpor, though. 2010 should force you to learn the French term "millerandage," which translates as "shot berries," small grapes and consequently reduced yields that result when flowering is impaired. No freakin' clue if this condition affected the wine I'm drinking tonight, but it was apparently a generalized tendency in 2010 and lower yields generally support overall quality. Smaller yields also mean higher prices, though, so you have to pick your spots.
This set me back around $28, which you could argue is a lot for an unspecific appellation like Cote de Beaune. But it's very, very good. A pale ruby color. Nose immediately expressive, full of juicy red, cherry fruit and intriguing hints of minerality and earth. Nicely balanced and eminently quaffable. This is generous but at the same time taut, with plenty of acidity to keep it lively. In short, it's Burgundy being Burgundy in its own ineffable way, deceptively delicious, and this just a large negociant's Cote de Beaune. Even seems to put on some weight with time in the glass. Enjoy right now or 3-5 years.
