Medium tawny with developed aromas of chocolate, vanilla, dried cherries, molasses, fig, raisin and marzipan. High alcohol and acidity with medium plus body, medium tannins and a long finish. Palate of cherry, raspberry , chocolate milk, caramel, vanilla, and coffee. This is a very good wine that should be drunk now with potential for aging

Tannat made in a Marsala style, then aromatised like a Chinato and aged in French oak for several years. Served blind by the somm to accompany a chocolate dessert, we all agreed this was nothing like any wine we'd tried before - closest relative perhaps being Banyuls.
Intriguing nose that was quite vanilla-dominated, with drinking chocolate, coconut and sweet tobacco. Not as sweet on the palate as you'd expect, with notes of dark chocolate and a well-judged amount of acidity that kicked in towards the finish - a good match, and easy to finish the glass.

Our last bottle and it seemed even better than our previous bottle tasted some time ago. Very deep colour with a rich and fragrant nose. The palate had a lovely texture and was full of sweet dark cherries, vanilla, with almost overwhelming chocolate flavours. Very long. It opened beautifully with time and spice emerged - cinnamon with what fellow-tasters described as ‘hot cross bun’ and ‘marzipan’ flavours. A group of 11 tasters rated this as a 92. Great stuff!

This Tannat dessert wine had so many familiar flavors - chocolate and slightly minty like the old Vandermint liqueur. Also reminiscent of a coffee-coconut liqueur we brought home from Tahiti decades ago. We all enjoyed this dessert wine!

Both aromitized and fortified. Medium plus nose of syrup, toffee, black fruit, molasses. Palate has loads of chocolate layers, some other notes like spice in the alcohol, but that's the gist. Cool to try, not sure what to do with it after that.

Lovely deep nose of cocoa and vanilla. Velvety mouth feel with flavors of cocoa, plum, and spice. Exceptionally long finish that lingers until the next sip (whenever that might be). A touch hot, or else it would get 95+ from us. One of our absolute favorite dessert wines.

In the style of a Maury or Banyuls but with a lot more sweetness and complexity, aided by the botanicals of herbs and spices that are added. Inky black with wonderful aromas of a box of assorted chocolates, dark, milk and white. There’s sweet blackcurrant fruit plus almond and marzipan too to accompany the chocolate box aromas. To taste it’s very sweet with those gorgeous chocolate aromas coming through on the palate plus spices and vanilla pod. A distinctive and extraordinary wine which we all universally loved at a Bacchus night. Enjoyed it much more than when I last tasted in 2015

By the 50ml Glass via Coravin @ 67 Pall Mall, London. Served blind. We could not place this to save our lives and easily the first tiem we come across such a wine. Dark, toffee, biscuity, rich dense fruit, chocolate. Indeed a wine to pair with rich desserts like sticky toffee pudding but also a bit heavy and not easy to enjoy a lot. An ok and interesting wine but more liquerish, confectionery drink, than wine. 87

Saturday at a local store (and a few bonus bottles). (Chuck's Fine Wines): Easily the best Tannat based dessert wines from Uruguay I have ever had. Dark brown in color. The nose is like a Tootsie Pop - chocolate covered with a hard candy shell, likely the chocolate flavored. On the palate, this has more of a Tootsie Roll note to it. A bit of espresso. Slightly sweet. 16% alcohol but not showing any heat. A little goes a long way. Very cool to try.

Dark and viscous. Powerful box of chocolates aromas. The flavours are a cornucopia of sweet chocolate, fruit and nut, caramel, and fig on the intensely sweet palate. Unfortunately the finish lacked a bit of acidity so it felt a bit cloying. A PX style wine.

Our first bottle of this little gem we drank several years ago at a wine shop, and it was liquid chocolate. We lost track of the vintner for several years and just bought a new trio to try.
The current edition of this non-vintage dessert wine surprised us with wonderful layers of smoky caramel and slightly salty vanilla. It exhibits a fortified wine's typical big body, big legs and a gravity sucking, inky blackness tinged with burgundy. Vanilla, brown sugar and raisins on the nose.
The flavor profile is a dessert wine that stands apart from a typical port, and this one should be enjoyed with friends whose happiness matters to you.

Dark crimson color. Really great nose of vanilla, chocolate, dark berries, coffee. Lots of decadent flavors on the palate with blackberry syrup, milk chocolate, vanilla, chocolate covered cherries and some sweet spices coming through. Sweet on the palate but not overly syrupy like some dessert wines. Paired with salted pretzel tart with dark chocolate and a thick layer of caramel. Wow!

Dragged out to pair with HMR's whole cherry clafouti. Very dark crimson, thick body. Very strong aroma of caramel, with fruit that I hoped would be bing cherry, but seemed more plum-like or port-ish. Novel, for sure, but it didn't get more interesting.

I genuinely enjoy this dessert wine. There are almost too many aromas to identify...coffee, vanilla, chocolate, dark berries, cherries. It's the same on the palate. It's almost as if it knows what you want to taste, and you can taste it. Sweet, but that's what I expect as an after dinner dessert. There is some acid and tannins which prevent this from too closely resembling a syrup. I would note that this and the previous bottle had notably more oak present than a bottle I had purchased and consumed a couple of years ago.

Immense chocolate cherry on this wine. Very dusty and powdery, like Nestle Quik, and on the palate just jammy (but actually not too sweet) with vanilla, more milk chocolate. So, so different than any other dessert wine I've bought.

This is the third time we have had this superb dessert wine. It's a wow of rich chocolate, vanilla and berries(? ) It is so unique that I can't quite put my finger on the other piece of it besides the chocolate and vanilla. Wow, had this at a Wines of South America Food pairing dinner at Classic Thyme in Westfield. It was paired with a Dulce de Leche mousse with Raspberries and went excellently. This was very different and very good. One of my favorite dessert wines I have ever had...Chocolate covered cherries, a hint of spice, sweet goodness without being too heavy and syruppy. If you like a chocolate taste this is for you. Mrs. Coupe is not normally a dessert wine fan, and really liked it as well. Will definitely buy again...

Retailer tasting. Holy crap. This was a surprise. Not only the best dessert wine at this tasting but the best wine period. 16% alcohol but no signs of heat or being overdone. Interesting, but odd at the same time. It had a varying blend of fruit and vanilla on the nose, but the palate exhibited a very ruby port like start, but a smokiness mid palate finishing with the vanilla and some heat. Funny sidebar - a relative brought delicious Uraguain desserts and asked what we might possibly drink with them and almost fell on the floor when I revealed this dessert wine from Uraguay! It did work well with those desserts, but I don't think I'll be looking for it again. The smokiness I experienced didn't make me want too much more of it.

Decadently delicioius. Not a complex dessert wine, but sumptuos and irresistable. Packed with sweet chocolatey aromas and flavors layered over cola and sweet toasted spices. My thoughts ran to Hershey's milk chocolate, while the two ladies with me tasted vanilla cola and Dr. Pepper syrup respectively. 16% alcohol, but very well balanced and not too cloyingly sweet.

Consistent with prior notes. This time noticing a dryness/tannin on the finish which makes me wonder if it will be even better on day 2....too bad there's never any left over to try that!

The most recent was paired with Giada's Chocolate Amaretti cake. The first two times were at an upscale steakhouse.

Dark crimson color. Nose was chocolate covered cherry and raspberry, vanilla bean and mocha all the way. More of the same on the palate. The wine is dessert wine sweet but not cloying. This is the perfect pairing for chocolate cake with raspberry filling. A huge hit with everyone.

Chocolate covered cherries, with vanilla cream, and caramel. Terrific dessert wine at about $29.

Wow. Very interesting! The nose was pure Nesquik, and on the palate lots of cocoa powder with berries. So different, sweet but not overbearing. A definite re-buy.

Another dinner party, another big hit. Same notes as before, but have to add that one woman called it "orgasm in a bottle." Gotta restock this.

Still unlike any other dessert wine. Intense aromas of chocolate and vanilla that come to life in the mouth. I still say it smells like a salt water taffy shop, and tastes like a piece of chocolate salt water taffy.

Like a liquefied Cella's chocolate-covered cherry. And I don't really mean that in a good way.

Retailer tasting Wow! Unlike ANY other dessert wine. Truly different. Agree with others on chocolate, cola, and vanilla aroma and flavors, but I'll add cotton candy or salt water taffy (think of the shop). Not for everyone's tastes, but if your looking for something unique, this is it.

I first tasted this wine at a wine pairing dinner (the menu and wines were Chile and Argentina). Wonderful dark rub red color. The nose was wihite chocolate and vanilla beans. Spectacular. It knocks the socks off chocolate lovers and pairs well with many deserts (or stands alone quite well).

Retailer tasting. Holy crap. This was a surprise. Not only the best dessert wine at this tasting but the best wine period. 16% alcohol but no signs of heat or being overdone. Well balanced sweet wine. Notes of warm fudge and fresh vanilla bean. Full bodied with a very long finish. A dessert to itself. Sells for $30. 94 points.

Mocha notes on the nose and vanilla. Super sweet with prunes and more vanilla. Aberrant, but has a certain charm.
