Probably missed the prime drinking time. Certain fruit notes like cherry blackberry are hard to pick up and the additional vanilla added by time is prominent. Not a bad thing at all and the complexity you want on a ten year Cab is present. I will say however that the tannins are more abrasive then is comfortable, and the first half glass can be harsh, this is after an hour and some change of decanting. After that however, it really comes to its own and is really quite quaffable. Drank with no food and a cigarette outside in 80ml increments and quite nice lovely once you got used to it.
And please don't take this the wrong way, but I feel like at this point in its life it would make a downright incredible Sangria. It would benefit so much from a less abrasive opening note that a touch of fruit juice sweetness would let the more positive aspects of this wine shine. Like if I had to make Sangria for the King of Spain I would use this.
But again, a really nice thing to drink on its own, although probably not really worth the price/

Nose starts with vanilla notes and dark fruit. Taste followed suit with vanilla up front and sharp dark fruit mid to end. Decanting helped mitigate the sharpness. Went well with steaks. It's good now but I think it would last another couple of years

Quite mature, mostly showing tertiary notes including a strong black tea flavor. Sometimes was missing fruit (Silver Oak? Missing fruit? I know, but it’s true) and was dominated by barrel flavors (okay, that sounds more logical). But it rounded into form with air and was a nice but not special wine. Drink up.

Expected this to be a "fruit bomb," but I was pleasantly surprised with the relative balance in this bottle.
More dried fruit, than ripe jammy fruit, dried herbal notes, tobacco, cedar, smooth tannins, medium finish. The oak influence is there, especially on the nose, but those notes have integrated along with the tannins on the palate to provide a perfumed richness (cigar box) quality. Definitely round, short on structure and acidity, but enjoyable.
No reason to wait, drink up.

Not sure where this is in it’s drinking window. First sniff was typical silver oak. But a bit musty as well, but not in a bad way. Knocked down the fruit which was perfect with our tenderloin dinner and lobster Mac!

We found this to be more fruit dominated then we were expecting. Has a round soft mouthfeel and palate, like we were drinking a Merlot. Had some cedar and baking spices flavors, but not in balanced with the fruit. Well this wine is good, we have always thought there are a lot better cabinet sauvignon than Silver Oak (Alexander Valley or Napa Valley) for the money. Was an OK pairing with our first attempt at making Persian Crispy Rice with Khoresh Bademjan. A less fruit forward Cab or Sangiovese wine would have been better.

Tasting Silver Oak Healdsburg (Silver Oak Cellars Healdsburg, Ca.): Nose of black berry, mocha, and pepper today, same on the palate, big body, very round and supple, mouth filling fruit, tasty, at peak, enjoy now or during the next 7 years, good acid, long finish, and lovely aftertaste.

First, I prefer the Alexander Valley to the Napa Silver Oak largely because the oaky flavor is much less pronounced in the Alexander Valley product. Having said that, I found this to be very tasty. Bold, fruit filled and full bodied. Sour cherry, chocolate, tobacco box and a hint of tar on the palate. Full bodied although a bit round as Alexander Valley wines are wont to be. Tasted a lot like what Caymus used to taste like 5 to 7 years ago. Really enjoyed this.

Silver oak continues to disappoint. This 2010 is very ordinary and not worth the $70 price paid. Nice winery to visit but that is where the quality ends. The Napa is still drinking nicely but too pricy for the quality. I’m done with Silver Oak.

Aromas of graphite, cedar, menthol with very subtle black fruit. terpentine. Tasting notes of vanilla, dust/dirt, no fruit. Possibly held too long and past peak or flawed/faults. First Silver Oak, gifted to me and not a good first impression.

The oak is better integrated now and serves as a sweet, smokey, chocolatey back drop. The wine is a definite crowd pleaser with it's juicy cassis, red currant and red cherry aromas. There is some peppery Cab Franc character that I attribute to the rather cold vintage. It's far from the best Cabs from the USA, but for it's price seems quite good and pleasing.

Dark ruby and opaque in the glass. Nose of faint dark cherries , vanilla, cigar box . Palate of fading fruit, well integrated oak and a still potent tannic presence.

An explosive nose of blackcurrants, after 30 minutes turns to complete oaky mess. I can see, how this may appeal to some consumers, but to me personally there is WAY too much american oak, overpowering the fruits and varietal nuances.
Good wine, but certainly not outstanding.

Much more of an old world Bordeaux than most California Cabernets. Notes of herbs, pine, sour cherry and coffee. At first I wasn't a big fan but as time went on, it really opened up. Probably not worth the $60 price tag but not a bad wine either.

Better than a couple years ago. May soften more with cellar time. Vanilla and dark fruit on the nose. Tannins still offer grip over the palate, with more black fruit and spice. Have tried several AV cabs from ‘10, and hope that they continue to develop with age. Similar vintage as the ‘05 and ‘06, which hit their stride about 8 years out.

Picked this up in a store where I'm not sure it was stored properly - so this was good and worth it - but not necessarily up to par with what I was expecting for this vintage...but can't be sure as it wasn't properly stored at cellar temps either.

Pnp without decant Aldo sohm stemware Deep blood red with nice legs Nose of yeasty cherries and wood Initial taste was overpowering oak- not creme brûlée or even cigar box but rather wood chips alchoholic on the finish with a bit of bramble- mellowed out with time and I would recommend a good aerating decant aka Vinturi for this one-it may help All agreed one dimensional and disappointing 85.

Very deep nose of vanilla, sweet spices (coconut, cinnamon), chocolate, smoke, plum and blueberries. Hint of green pepper. Lively acidity and high level of plush tannins provide a nice structure. Very long flavors in the mouth, but I wish it had more fruit concentration, it seems a bit thin in the mouth (vintage?). Integrated, in a good drinking window but may also stay for a few more years. Very well executed, but at this price point I would probably expect more.

Decanted about an hour. A little gouda at first and modest oak notes. A pretty simple palate range pretty much throughout the evening. I have always been of two minds on the Silver Oak AV. I find it inconsistent. Some slight minerality and an austere finish. Perhaps some anise. The dinner crowd agreed that it was acceptable but not top notch.

OK, did anyone else get coconut on the nose? There are many mentions of oak here, so I will assume that this is the source, but it was rather off-putting. It did gradually dissipate, leaving me to enjoy soft tannins and dark fruit. I will decant the next bottle, though.

PnP. Cherries, cola, dark chocolate and oak on the nose. Faint mineral notes. Palate had a medium-long finish but was quite simple. Oak, a little more oak and red acidic fruit, maraschino cherry, cranberry on the palate. Good for what it is. Fine tannins on the back end.
Day 2: oak, acid, cinnamon, pastries, drying tannins. Fruit is nonexistent. Leaving Day 1 score @ 90. Day 2 it's a 85.

It is worth noting that this wine was twice tasted tonight and was different each time. The first time the wine had been opened and decanted for over an hour. The second time it was popped and poured. I much preferred the decanted version and think thatthis wine should be opened for several hours before consuming.
First tasting reveals notes of black cherry, some coconut and dill. The mouth-feel is leathery and dominated by a lingering aftertaste of cherry and prunes. The second tasting was much more closed with tannin 's dominating its moth-feel. There are similar tastes between both otherwise.
Had at a Silver Oak tasting among (4) other wines. These included The 2015 Twomey Sauvignon Blanc, 2013 Twomey Bien Nacido Vineyard Pinot Noir 2010 Silver Oak Alexander Valley Cabernet 2012 Twomey Soda Creek Ranch Merlot

The wine looks garnet colored. The legs are slow. There is no sediment in the bottle. It smells like black currant (cassis), prune and oak. It tastes like blackberry, fig, plum and black pepper. The body is full. The wine has leathery texture, finishes long and has medium acidity.

3 hour decant. Dark purple with clear rim. Spice and black pepper on the nose. Red fruit, vanilla, dill, earth, and spice on the palate. Medium finish. I think time will give this vintage more depth and complexity. The 2006 is definitely in its prime at the moment and puts the 2010 in its place. I'll sit on these for at least 4-5 years. Good bottle of wine...just needs more time.

K&L Silver Oak/ Twomey Tasting (K&L San Francisco): New oak on the nose, and more on the palate -- mint notes also reveal themselves over time, then bell pepper -- my guess it'll reach its sweet spot in 2-3+ years, depending on your preference... 91-92+

Way too young. We had to PNP. The nose is dark fruit, the palate was blueberry, plum and olive. The finish was too tight. It is still very good but this wine needs either a three hour decant through a vinturi or a couple of more years in the cellar to reach its potential.

Very intense nose of ultra-sweet cassis, blackberries and new oak. Quite rich on the palate with ripe fruit flavors of blackberries and cassis. There is a good structure underneath the wine and while the finish turns a bit jammy, this is one Silver Oak I could tolerate. A better wine than they've made in a while.

Renewed my appreciation for Silver Oak.. less tannin and 'dirt' than whatI remember... great structure... plenty of fruit but still that sense of french roots and style. this is how the French would make wine if they weren't so stuck up... :)

Tightly wound, and would recommend several more years in the cellar to give this one time to come into its own. All the classic characteristics of the Silver Oak AV cab - structured, balanced, nice tannin and dark fruits.

Dark purple color turning crimson at the rim. Attractive notes of raspberry, vanilla, oak and a hint of dill. The palate is full-bodied, dry with a good structure. This really needed time - at least 5 years before it came all together. Very consistent with the vintages 2004, 2005, 2007, 2008 and 2009. Drink now until 2025.

Wow, this is a fabulous Alexander valley Cabernet. Still young, but to be honest worth it to open a bottle if you have a few. Color is beautiful close to cranberry around the rim deepening to almost burgundy in the center of the glass. Long legs. Slightly hot on the nose plum and red fruit notes cherry and spice apparent. The wine is slightly hot still. The French oak lends wonderful vanilla notes. The flavors are very well integrated and the finish is long. Tannins are ripe and supple. Very round. Sour cherry, blackberry, maybe some darker fruit. Good acid wine isn't at all flabby despite being fruit forward.

You have to dig deep below the blatantly oaky surface of vanilla and coffee bean to find the soft, plush, plummy fruits, but it can be done. This early drinking style for everyone, but if it's your thing, it's a nice wine.

This opaque ruby, full-bodied red flaunts aromas of black currants accented with licorice, tree bark, vanilla and allspice. Mouth-coating on the palate, it delivers ripe black fruit, spice and earth flavors. With low-to-medium acidity, nicely woven alcohol (13.9%) and fairly well-integrated oak, it remains solid in the middle. The wine has substantial tannins which stay edgy throughout the medium-to-long finish. This is one of the better Alexander Valley offerings from Silver Oak. A bit of cellaring should help to soften the wine's tannic grip. Drink 2016-2024.

We had 2 bottles of this at dinner, after a work colleague ordered it. It's classic Silver Oak - silky, fruity, and somewhat sweet (oaky). Virtually no tannins on the backend. If you like this style, you'll like the wine. I personally don't prefer the style, ergo the lower score, which is still considered "good" as I'm balancing my personal tastes with how good the wine is for the style. That all said, not sure this is worth the price - I've had $20 Columbia Crest in the same style that's just as good, if not better. FAIR.

Nose: lots of oak initially. dissipated over time. still hard to evaluate the aroma with the oak interference, giving off sweet floral sense. might be some sweet fruit underneath.
Palate: sweet, red fruit revealed on the palate. medium tannins, carried to the finish. mild acidity. medium bodied. apparent alcohol. not really interesting, but I wouldnt mind drinking this with a steak if someone paid for it.

Tasting notes of vanilla, dust/dirt, no fruit. Possibly held too long and past
peak or flawed/faults.

Deep blood red with nice legs
Nose of yeasty cherries and wood
Initial taste was overpowering oak- not creme brûlée or even cigar box but rather wood chips
alchoholic on the finish with a bit of bramble- mellowed out with time and I would recommend a good aerating decant aka Vinturi for this one-it may help
All agreed one dimensional and disappointing

Very deep nose of vanilla, sweet spices (coconut, cinnamon), chocolate, smoke, plum and blueberries. Hint of green pepper. Lively acidity and high level of plush tannins provide a nice structure. Very long flavors in the mouth, but I wish it had more fruit concentration, it seems a bit thin in the mouth (vintage?). Integrated, in a good drinking window but may also stay for a few more years. Very well executed, but at this price point I would probably expect more.

These included The 2015 Twomey Sauvignon Blanc,
2013 Twomey Bien Nacido Vineyard Pinot Noir
2010 Silver Oak Alexander Valley Cabernet
2012 Twomey Soda Creek Ranch Merlot

3 hour decant. Dark purple with clear rim. Spice and black pepper on the nose. Red fruit, vanilla, dill, earth, and spice on the palate. Medium finish. I think time will give this vintage more depth and complexity. The 2006 is definitely in its prime at the moment and puts the 2010 in its place. I'll sit on these for at least 4-5 years. Good bottle of wine...just needs more time.

FAIR.
