  • Tasted one hour after opening. Pretty lean at first, but by hour 2 it was expressing red and dark fruits, earth, cedar, smoke, and leather. Brick edges to the wine. Tannins quite soft. A classic left bank wine that is starting its decline. Finish rather abrupt and short. Drink up!

  • Fairly decent shape bottle, part of an unopened OWC. Still slightly fruity, with hints of cedar and leather, the nose is characteristic of left bank. Silky tannins and a typical old wine profile in the palate. I’d drink this in the coming year max.

  • Robert Parker rated this wine an 88 twenty years ago. He was right. It is perfectly drinkable, but not much more than that. Perhaps the second half of the bottle tomorrow night will be better, but I doubt it.

  • At good spot to drink. Harmonious but needs air to open up. Austere at first but opens up to a classic left bank bottle with age. A bottle with generous fruit, age and left bank character.

  • With a top shoulder fill and a dried out cork that broke even with an ah-so, my expectations were not high. But this was by far the best Prieure Lichine I've ever experienced. I think I caught it right in the evolutionary sweet spot. Very Margaux, very feminine. Tannins present but hiding silkily. Decent length. Not a "blockbuster" style at all, kinda old school. My one nit would be the nose remained fairly muted.

  • En-Primeur campaign for the 2021 vintage; 4/25/2022-4/29/2022 (Bordeaux): Leather, earth, farmyard, blackcurrant, tight chalky tannins put me in mind of 95 but the fruit says older. I guessed 89 as there wasn’t enough fruit sweetness for 90 but Daniel beat me too it.

  • This was a bit of a surprise, still has a muted red color, dusted cherry and a pronounced spice/cinnamon taste. Did not decant but probably should have. Been open for almost 2 hours and stll holding up but losing some of the spicyness.

  • Lovely rather traditional Bordeaux that more than holds its own in its weight class (sensibly priced crus classés). Dark fruits, a hint of baking vanilla (not the meretricious vanilla of a wine vinified or aged in hi-toast oak barrels), anise and tobacco on the nose; more dark fruits and tobacco on the palate. Very balanced and harmonious mouthfeel and actually rather easy to enjoy without food, as well as with it of course. This won't make anyone's WOTY list but it does its job and does it well. Drink now or in the next 5 or so years.

  • Kirk Grant’s note from a few years ago still holds, from my perspective. Nice mature bdx nose that gets more expressive with time. A mid-weight, lean wine with a medium-length finish. Decanting is a must, and I would recommend not drinking anything until the three hour mark.

  • Bottle #048885. The bottle was in perfect condition; the filling-level was upper mid shoulder, the cork was only 85% soaked, hence no seepage. The wine was dark garnet in colour and threw some sediment. It offered dark fruit, pencil shaving, cinnamon and tobacco on the nose, and dark fruit, cherry, black currant, graphite, cinnamon and tobacco on the palate, with fresh, medium-plus acidity, fine, well-integrated, medium-plus tannin and superb length. The balanced, medium-bodied wine had good concentration, the fruit flavours were still fresh. Paired with rib-eye steak it became super-smooth and a nice cigar-tobacco flavour came to the fore. A lovely Bordeaux! Drinking very well, but no need to hurry.

  • Perfect now. Lovely fully integrated Margaux. Still some 1989 strong flavors with almost light alcohol typical in these 25 year old medocs. Very drinkable, lots of Margaux character pure Prieure lichine. A lovely'89.

  • This was in a nice spot if you're a fan of traditional style Bordeaux I can't help but think that you'd be happy with this opening it now. Medium body, medium acid, medium fruit, scents of earth, leather, tobacco, a hint of bell pepper, and some dried dark fruits. All in all, a wine I could enjoy on a regular basis if it was still affordable. Hard to believe these used to be affordable...

  • This is absolutely lovely right now. The color is rather advanced with a bit of a haze, but lovely perfume and absolutely lush, mature flavors.

  • Aerated to decanter 1 hour, served non-blind. Color still holding, though pretty well bricked. Polished aromas of cigar box, cedar chest, some pencil shavings and dusty red and black berries. The flavors mirror the nose on this medium-bodied beauty. Gains complexity and even a little weight by the second glass. Long, seamless finish that instantly brings a smile to your face as you slowly close your eyes and give in to the wine, and its impressive journey. Just a joy to drink. 12,5% abv, drink thru 2019, highly recommended

  • This wine is drinking very well now. Beautiful perfumed nose that Margaux is famous for. Very closed at first so open for a good 3 hours. Violets, blackcurrant, cedar, leather, with hints of sandalwood and herbs. Silky mouthfeel, delicious rich blackcurrant and black cherry palate, background of spice, eucalyptus, cedar, luscious tannins and vibrant acidity. Delicious.

  • Opened 3 hours in advance, tried over the time and decided not to decant.
Crimson still bright colour with orange edges.
Ripe, elegant, complex margaux nose of dark berries, leather, forestfloor.
Medium body, still present but silky tannins, elegant notes of dark berries, cedar, cigarbox, leather. Very well aged without disturbing aging-tones. Long, complex finish. Evolves nicely over 2 hours in the big Riedel Bordeaux-glas... perfect mature Margaux!

  • Classic French Boudreaux the wine was silky soft no earth, lead pencil, only subtle blackberry Flavor - incredibly it held up well my friend Dave said it smelled crappy at first and then blossomed

  • Like the transient, transcendent beauty of the Iguazu falls; the stunning power of the almost alien Dettifoss; And the clay chalk bite of the Jim Jim, this wine also joins the ranks of those waterfalls, except the only similarity is that it is falling liquid over rock, and by falling I mean it HAS fallen. And by rock I mean its taste on the palate. Definitely fallen over, into what appears to be a floating barn. Maybe it'll survive the fall and start swimming again? Maybe, maybe. Maybe one day you'll rise up out of this body and take flight as the Cosmic Human? Maybe. Maybe one day you'll fall over. Think about that.

  • Muted nose (especially compareed to the other wines on the table - 1988,1989,1990 Lynch-Bages), On the palate this is nicely open and showing some good fine tannins, quite a bit lighter-bodied than all the Lynch-Bages tonight, This wine is now a bit drying on the finish and overall shows somewhat austere.

  • La Commanderie de Bordeaux à Vancouver - 1988, 1989, 1990 Red Bordeaux (CinCin Restaurant): Kind of a modern nose with plenty of okay notes coming through, darker fruits and hints of funk. Not as expressive or classic as the Lynch Bages wines. This was also the most resolved on the palate with powdery tannins and good acidity. This is fully mature. Good.

  • Light uninspiring nose; uneven and austere; some texture with decent tannins.

  • Friday Night Wines (my apartment): Classic Margaux nose of rose petals, graphite, cedar, and soft red fruit. Nose was just outstanding! The wine still has a pretty ruby hue to it, showing some signs of growing tired. I think that this bottle was slightly passed its prime. The body of the wine had lost structure and didn't have much of a finish. Despite some of its shortcomings, this is still a delicate beauty of a wine. Subtle red fruit, tobacco, and cedar flavors are blended together - very elegant. I'd drink now.

  • With 4 hours air time. Very enjoyable and mature Margaux. Saddle leather on the nose, with nicely resolved fine tannins and dark red fruit elements nearing the exit door. Drink soon if you have any more left.

  • Opened not decanted. A little funk on the nose with smoke, charcoal and tar. Slightly astringent on the entry with some medicinal notes (or rather medicine cabinet); ends with a dried blackberry (end of summer fruit), burnt fruit finish with some dry chalky notes. Needs food. Paired with a brined Cornish game hen with steamed fingerling potatoes tossed in white wine and green beans tossed in butter. Julia Child mentioned serving the roasted poultry with an aged Bordeaux so I pulled this one. Fair to Good.

  • Red-brown rim, moderate extraction, moderate depth of color. Very aromatic nose with pretty flowers, cigar box, slightly dusty and savory blackcurrant fruit. On the palate the wine has moderate + acidity, a firm, very Cabernet midpalate, a fine transition into a moderately tannic finish. With time the finish got metallic and a bit hollow, and the midpalate lost depth of flavor, low alcohol. Good balance (especially for 89 for me), adequate length, low intensity, good complexity. On the palate the wine has finesse, has major textural issues on the finish that get worse with time, good expression of place. Overall the palate was quite disappointing considering the aromatic complexity. This bottle was certainly on the decline, though I don't suspect it ever really had the depth of fruit/flavor for long aging. I have never been a fan of the wines from this producer... this wine didn't help.

  • dark red to rim with hint of bricking, nice nose, moderately complex with dark fruits, forest floor, coffee, sweet classic aged Bdx scent, medium body, nice fruit on palate, resolved tannins, very good-excellent, a bit more complex than last bottle after getting some air

  • nose: lovely and classic margaux nose of dark red cherries, cranberries, bits of leather, floral hints, cedar, and some tart berry tones and hints of forrest. Very elegant nose with nice depth

taste: excellent and plush medium/full feel with well resolved tannins. Lush and elegant tones of dark red cherries, small berries, hints of florals, cedar, leather, and a bit of cigar wrapper

overall: this wine grew a lot as it opened. It would've been better with a short decant, but it was so tasty that the last glass was the best and maybe it should've been savored. A really pretty aged margaux that is in a perfect place. It should hold at this place for a while. Drink up and enjoy

  • dark red to rim with hint of bricking, nice nose, moderately complex with dark fruits, forest floor, coffee, hint of that sweet classic aged Bdx scent, medium body, nice fruit on palate, resolved tannins, very good-excellent, not likely to get better but might develop additional complexity before fruit starts to fade

  • Rubi alaranjado. Aromas de especiarias, tabaco , trufas e cedro. Na boca macio, bem sedoso, com taninos ainda bastante presentes e suaves, boa acidez e médio corpo. Tabaco, especiarias e café na boca, com algum verdor e consideravel secura. Excelente. 90-91

  • Brown color with rusty red hints. A very deep bouquet emerges from the glass with dark forest fruits, truffles, coffee and cedar. In the mouth the wine carries a wide, balanced mouthfeel with just enough fruit to be savory. Flavors of wild mushrooms, chocolate, coffee and root vegetables. A very nice effort. 91 pts

  • Tasting of 9 Bordeaux at Primas. Had a ripe, fruity but earthy nose with more of the same in the mouth, long, fruity finish but too earthy for me. My #9.
