On looks alone it had me flashing back to the Passover table at my girlfriend's house. Manischewitz-like in color, the wine is purple with a ruby/brownish rim. It’s kind of thick and cloudy.
Much like it’s doppelganger, it stained the glass and the legs were so thick (high alcohol, FYI) the wine had cankles.
Dark raspberries waft from the glass. No doubt there is lots of barrel aging. Those wood-induced smells of coffee, leather, chocolate, and mocha hit me first. There was a little bit of church altar — like myrrh or frankincense in the background of the wine too but overall, the smell reminded me of a dark chocolate/raspberry cake — with alcohol. That said the overall impression left my mouth watering for this apparent chocolate dessert.
If you don’t like high alcohol wines, this may not be for you because my first impression was of the burn. But it is softer now with some age. What made the wine interesting — there were leather (like chewing on a belt) notes and a flavor of sweet chewing tobacco too - yes, I have many vices.

Compared to the 2012... fruit is not punch you in the face excessive. However.... a white wood ash in the nose prevails over the usual mourvedre hallmarks. This is MO-dern. Acid, check. Tannic backbone, check. Oak.. on the dancefloor. Blackberry, blueberry... ash... more ash... and oh, a little barnyard, a little leather, a little blood, a whack! of minerality. I'll say... this is a crowd pleaser, if you're crowd tends to -not- overthink. And.. it needs a PunchYouInTheFace food.

Very jammy... Not exactly sweet, but thick and fruity. It probably goes well with pizza and other "big meat" dishes. With anything lighter, it is a side-dish... I think there is better value out there for $12ish.

With Roast port tenderloin and carrot Romesco. Dark, almost opaque, purple/crimson. Nose is fruity/raisin/fig. Almost sweet (but not sugar, maybe allspice or cloves), medium weight, a touch of acid and black pepper. Odd on the palate, couldn't quite pin down what we had.

Big, dark fruit on this, perhaps just slightly overripe, with a high ABV that occasionally shows a lack of full integration and balance. Overall, a very nice and well-made wine for the price but also one that I just got tired of drinking after about a glass and a half. I'm guessing this would be a crowd pleaser at a party, but it just isn't quite my style.

"sur lie" technique, after the fermentation is done they leave the grapes to rest with the spent yeast; adds complexity to the flavor and aroma.
Lots of leather aromas and flavors. Also ripe fruit and some dried fruit (figs, raisins) sweetness. Very good to drink on its own, not sure what it would pair with.

Inky purple in colour with very long and pronounced legs. Smells of dark berries, vanilla, chocolate and leather. It's a slightly thin wine with a shorter than expected finish. Clear and bright, deep ruby colour and presence dense inky legs. The nose is clean and developing, showing pronounced intensity aromas of blackberry, strawberry, pyrazine, violets, vanilla and chocolate. The wine is off-dry in the mouth with a medium acidity, high fine grained tannins, high alcohol, full body and pronounced intensity flavours of blackberry, strawberry, pyrazine, violets and vanilla. Medium+ finish.
It is a very good quality wine with some complexity provided by oak ageing and some floral notes, a very good fruit concentration and a decent finish, but it lacks acidity to balance the body, alcohol and sweetness, and there some underripe notes too. Drink now, but it has enough tannic structure and fruit concentration to develop a bit of complexity in the next 2-3 years.

I confess to becoming a little bit of a snob with my cellar tilting to more expensive wines, but this wine is really good. Tannic, acidic, but wonderful taste. I have drank multiple vintages of this with consistent great results and have always served it at my annual fund raiser(wine tasting) for Susan's kids. Everybody always loves this and it makes me question (just a tiny bit) my preference for top wines. It is without question my favorite "cheap wine", Columbia Crest 2nd. However, As much as I Like juan Gill, it does not get better on day two and I can't rate it better than an 85 on day 2, unlike most of my wines which get better after time (air).
Weekly tasting group #102; "Winter wines" (@ CvR): Red and dark berry fruits and herbs and spices in the bouquet which reminds of Grenache. On the palate the same juicy fruits, some dairy impressions and some pepper. The wine is still very youthful, but of good quality. 87 for tonight, but with potential for a bit more after some ageing; 2 - 4 years…?

Spicy on the nose. Fruit forward with a balanced, dry finish. Exceptional drink for the money.
