Translucent ruby. Light to medium bodied, energetic. Pretty red fruit and flowers. It’s in a perfect drinking window, and seems to have a decade or two left in the tank. This was a sublime bottle, a complete success in the vintage.

The 2011 Thomas is in a perfect drinking window. The tertiary notes are starting to come in but the cherry and strawberry fruits are still very present along with a gorgeous perfume. This should hold for another few years in its current state.

Friday Group Brown Bag Tasting (Eagle Brook CC): Blind. Light color. Cherry and spice notes- very pretty, elegant. Juicy and bright on the palate, with cherry and cranberry carrying the finish. Lovely. Easy to pick out as the Thomas in this flight. This had been double decanted off its sediment a bit over two hours before the lfight was poured.

Medium ruby color. Nose of intensely perfumed iodine, black raspberry, cherry pits, iron granules, florid violets. Layers of crunchy, tart red berry cut with slim iron filings and fine earth on the sinewy palate. Bright acidity and structured tannin. Longer finish of red raspberry, steel, and crushed stone. Lovely.

What a super showing this bottle was tonight. 4th of a case. Very difficult vintage . Producers spent time lining up sugar to add to the wines. That seems unfathomable now, but it is the truth. Very sublime and well made. The tannins long gone. Light color, 13.2 abv. sleek, balanced with sneaky power. its weightless texture really stands out for me the wine put on some weight and color after a couple hours and the fruit took on a sweetness of merinque with cranberry and pomegranate wow kinda blows my mind how good this is for 2011

Translucent ruby color. Nose of wafting violets, pine forest, cherry pits, light musk. Layers of delicate but somehow still intense black cherry, raspberry, iodine, and fine soil on the palate. Young, vibrant acidity and firmer tannin. Longer finish of intense red fruit, bits of iron, and earth. A bit of astringency which blew off as the evening progressed. Lovely wine.

Strawberry - crimson color. Rich nose of Cassis, liquor, and cola with a hint of dust. Delicate, strawberry and raspberry predominate. Slightly lacking in back-end length (age?). Really good.

Another great showing for the 2011 Thomas. This wine evolved in the glass — especially the aromatics. The next time I drink this wine, I will decant at least two hours before drinking. Silky smooth, perfectly balanced. Once again — I can’t find a fault in this wine. Best showing yet.
I am not sure there is a better American Pinot Noir than Thomas.

Translucent medium ruby. Nose of soaring violets, anise, cherry pits, damp cellar, earth. Layers of lighter weight but very savory red raspberry, cherry, iron granules, and fine dirt on the palate. Bright acidity and finely-curled tannin. Long finish of lifted earthy red fruit, anise, and satisfying ferric notes. Oh so beautiful.

Light red in color. 13.2% ABV. Gorgeous nose of red fruits, black tea, tilled soil and forest floor. Medium body with exquisite acidity. Power and concentration that belies the color of the wine. Bing cherry, strawberry, earth and mushrooms on the palate. The finish is exceptionally long and seamless. Such an elegant wine. Absolutely beguiling Pinot Noir. Best over the next 2-3 years although I would not be surprised if it kept even longer.

This is my second time trying this wine, having opened a bottle in 2016. This is absolutely delicious now, perhaps my favorite domestic pinot noir of the year. Pale red. It's still quite primary. Crisply red fruited, with raspberry, strawberry and cherry, and a distinctive violet floral note. Medium bodied.

This is finally in a drinking window that is going to make it hard for me to keep my paws off the last bottle. Just a lovely, lovely bottle of Pinot Noir. The wine is still mostly primary, but the fruit is bright and beautiful, there's a depth on the nose with earth-driven undertones. A brilliant wine...I wish I had bought more.

Tasted non blind. Opened and served immediately. Followed over about two hours.
Garnet color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Nose of red hills dirt, smoke and a dusting of white pepper. Flavors of cranberries, raspberries, plums and red cherries. Bright acidity, medium tannin, full bodied. Drink or hold.

The 2011 Thomas is coming into its own — a little earlier than the typical Thomas, which is a good thing. Quarantine life requires great Pinot. I am rating this 95 again, but I think I generally underrate Thomas. There is no flaw here, just perfect balance and clarity. The only problem is the wine seems to disappear in the glass.

Light red in color. Almost translucent. 13.2% ABV. Pretty nose of red fruits, soil, flowers and minerals. Light body with exquisite acidity. Incredibly lithe and elegant. Black cherry, cranberry, blood, earth and mushrooms on the palate. The finish lingers for an eternity. Classic Thomas from an unheralded vintage. Best over the next 1-3 years.

Thomas Pinot Noir Vertical (Dan and Elise's, Mpls): Medium red color. PNP, drank a glass over 90 minutes. This came off really youthful tonight, young, spicy, pepper, dark berry, dried wood spices on thenose. The palate shows ripe berry, very spicy, red currants, and some alcohol at times. This just seemed a bit out of sorts right now, but I still have high hopes for its future. Another example of where a lot of '11's are drinking well now, this needs more time. 90(+)pts.

Clear, light ruby color. This wine is the reason why I drink pinot noir. The red-fruited nose leaps from the glass while autumnal hints remain in the background and add complexity. On the palate, bright cherry, earthy mushroom, and fall leaves rush across the tongue with a lightness only found in high quality pinot. There is ample acidity to give it enough life to pair beautifully with seasoned salmon and risotto with peas and bacon. Overall, I loved this wine for its pure, red fruit and its amazing mouthfeel that highlights flavor without heaviness. There are no rough edges to this wine.

Very light red in color. Similar to the 2010 in that respect. 13.2% ABV. Pretty nose of red fruits, rose petals, forest floor and minerals. Light to medium body with exquisite acidity. So light and delicate but with underlying power. Flavors of bing cherries, earth, mushrooms and a hint of iodine. The finish is exceptionally long and just seems to linger on the back of the palate. Not the best year for Oregon Pinot Noir but this a beautiful wine. Best over the next 3-5 years.

Popped and poured, enjoyed over 4 hours. Larger bowled glasses showed better aromas and flavors than smaller bowls (Zalto burg > Riedel Oregon Pinot > Zalto Bordeaux)
Agree with most notes however this wine as all about savagery for me. Delicate fruit took a backseat to a mileau of animalistic smells and flavors. Really quite fascinating. If there was evere a primordial (pinot) soup, this is how it would smell and taste to me. Nice balance of acids, and the mouth feel was gently firm. After several hours, the nuance was lost and fruit, acids, and linear mouthfeel showed up.
Loved it. Forget pairing this wine, pour it into a proper sized chalise and contemplate life solo or with a soulmate.

Lovely cool vintage, elegant pinot noir. Pale but vivid red with bright red fruit flavors - ripe strawberry, tart cranberry and a bit of red currant. Gorgeous dusty nose of cool cranberry and white flower. Took me awhile to actually start drinking because I just wanted to keep breathing it. Quite intense in the mouth because of the tart, penetrating flavor and then a lengthy and nuanced finish of fruit, earth and lingering acidity. Impressive.

Opened this at the start of a new NFL Cleveland Browns football season. #BrownsSuckWinesDon't. I enjoy Thomas Pinot's and was curiouos how this from a "lighter" vintage would be. In many respects, it seems the vintage played right into Thomas's hands. Light ruby in color, pale. The nose is really nice and strong too. Cherries albeit on the less ripe side. Nothing green though. Also what I can only describe as the smell after a rain. Really interesting. On the palate, there is a nice complexity here. Cherries layered with a clean earthiness. This does seem a bit advanced for a typical Thomas Pinot but still has many years left. Not sure if it improves any or just morphs into more complexity and earth and less fruit. Glad to have a couple left to revisit.

Strawberry bomb. Decanted for two hours. For a wine from a cool year, I was blown away by the amount of fruit. Unfortunately, this wine followed three savory Oregon Pinots, and a cauliflower soup, and it was just too sweet and light to make the transition. Like other vintages, this is light and focused with great minerality.

If you're lucky enough to own this and have yet to taste it, two things to know: it's best on day 2 and you should find some more if you can. Nicely pitched savory with tangy soil notes. Red-fruited, well-lifted and as balanced a wine as one could ask for (many/most would say I'm in the AFWE camp, whatever...) A gift from fellow CTer arthrovine - sir, I am in your debt! Just lovely, and drank well even into day 4. 13,2% abv. highly recommended
Part of 2011 Oregon Pinot Noir tasting. - Nose of minerals and blue fruit - On the palate minerals, mouthwatering acidity and blue fruit notes are in wonderful balance.

Opened by WineSparty at an offline at Weber Grill. First time I have had a wine from this producer. Opened 8 hours before dinner. Very light red color. This is not a style of Pinot that I like. Reminded me more of a California Pinot from the Russian River than something from Oregon. Notes of cherry cola, cranberries and smoke. Slightly acidic. 88-89 points.

Opened by Wine Sparty at Weber. Oregon profile of restrained red fruit with an earthy character. This was tight and probably could have used several more hours in a decanter, or time in the cellar.

Opened and let slow-ox for about 8 hours before drinking. Drank with group at dinner at Weber Grill, so no formal notes taken or score given. I was amazed at how light this was in the glass - looked almost like cranberry juice. Aroma and taste were ripe red fruits of cranberry and red cherry. Since I had 6 bottles, I had to pop one to check it out, but my others will rest for years.

Drank the first of my case. Make sure you give this ample time to decant if you drink it young -- it's hot (characteristic of the vintage) but settles down after 3-4 hours. Best to let this settle in the cellar for another few years if you can wait.

Color: Pigeon's blood ruby Smell: A melange of vibrant red fruits, cement, floral notes, and an earth-driven rustic hint at the tail end Taste: Raspberries, cherries, strawberries, logan berries, and blueberries with just a whisper of sawdust & mineral notes. Overall: I just couldn't wait any longer to try this...and I'm so glad I did. The rest will be resting for years if I can do this right. Light body, high acidity, med++ fruit, and a long finish. Outstanding!!!

Slow-ox for four hours. Sour cherries, cherry stones, and light oak on the nose. Nice acidity and impeccable balance in the mouth, but the flavors come across as slightly bitter/sour. Like blenderized cherry skins and stones. Medium finish is quite dry. Interesting, elegant, and good concentration, though not entirely delicious.

Opened expecting a wine that might need a little time. This wine was awesome right out of the gate. Classic Thomas medicinal cherry nose. Remnds me of an elegant Chambolle 1st cry. There is no doubt John Thomas makes the best pinot in the US maybe second only to Joseph Swan Trenton Estate...

Very pale coloring in the glass. Never seems to have high levels of color extraction. Tasted previously upon arrival and it was really disjointed this was much better. The nose shows great vibrancy of red fruits with a touch of mushroom and sweetness from the oak. Nice body and smooth expansive finish. Really deserves significant air or time in the bottle

I love the Thomas style but to my taste, this vintage sets a new bar for his wines. Very clear, medium ruby. A striking nose: on pulling the cork I was expecting cola or sarsaparilla and yet the wine smelled like a slice of freshly baked seeded rye bread (an aroma I can't resist). With air, the caraway aroma quickly vanished and I got raspberries (ripe, but not overripe...), red currents, wax, spice cake. Richly flavored yet light on its feet, very clean delineation. The acidity here is just right to shape and lift the wine. Endless, mineral laden finish. Reminds me of a lovely musigny I once tried from the barrel. 94+... could be one of the best Oregon PNs I've ever tried.

Several years since my last bottle of this. Lots of red fruit and open for business. Should continue to age well, but drinking well now.

What a beautiful wine. Very light and delicate color, but tremendous nose of fragrant spice, crunchy red fruits and cool freshness. Lots of fruit on the pallet, but delicate, balanced and refined. Excellent.

Brilliant fresh nose on this wine, raspberry, cherry, spice and earth. Light on its feet great acidity and some fine tannin's. Decanted for an hour and just a great wine imho.

PnP, served non-blind.

a interesting nose, with Fresh green tip pine leaves, on the palate it is like Rhubarb Custard, texture is amazing with loads of red fruit acidity
Conc: Does not smell like a typical Oregon Pinot very very french in style I would say but with a little bit more fruit

Color: Pigeon's blood ruby
Smell: A melange of vibrant red fruits, cement, floral notes, and an earth-driven rustic hint at the tail end
Taste: Raspberries, cherries, strawberries, logan berries, and blueberries with just a whisper of sawdust & mineral notes.

Consumed over two nights and this is might nice. The color and clarity is really pretty. All the typical Thomas aromas and flavors are there, but the vintage comes through as well. Graceful and balanced, this should age well. 93 pts. now with definite upside potential.
