Probably 1-2 years past it’s prime but still delicious. Good mineranity but slightly tart aftertaste. Mellowed out after poured in a glass and still very enjoyable.

Nose of melons and tropical fruit. There's a load of spicy oak here, and the wine tastes as hot as it is (15%!). On the full-bodied side, there's some minerality mixed in with the copious amt of fruit, but the spice and alcohol overwhelms. Love the complex length here most of all. This is a wine that some will love and will definitely not. I'm in the middle, and enjoying it tonite with my shrimp and pasta dish. Way overpriced!

Melon, apricot with a mineral thread. A touch of saline on the finish. The oak is still somewhat noticeable but as a streak of spiciness that was a little out of place on first pour but which settled down over time. Generally my favorite bottling each vintage.

Melon and forward, spicy oak. A bit thin on the midpalate, finishing with overt oak. Unlike the best Aubert wines this lacks the stuffing and acidity to balance the oak and alcohol, at least at this age.

I have to say I was underwhelmed. Tasty enough, with rich, concentrated notes of stone fruit and butter, a touch honeyed, but that concentration came off as heavy and dense, lacking in nuance to my palate, relative to expectations anyway. Maybe a dumb phase?

Yellow color with a bouquet and flavor of toast, butterscotch, pineapple, and citrus with compelling depth and nuance and with very good balance and a long finish. Much better than the last bottle, reminding me that there are no good wines apart from good bottles. The wine was big enough to match the SQN Syrah (Stock). Drunk with our neighbors with some very nice blue cheeses, salami, and prosciutto.

Yellow color with hints of pineapple in the bouquet and flavor but with the impression dominated by hard oak notes that led to a harsh ending. Very similar to the Ritchie 2012 drunk the day before and from a different cellar. Likely over the hill.

Beautiful rich gold color; big, thick, oily texture; apple, a hint of tropical fruits, citrus, wet stone, a little bitterness, followed by a long finish with cinnamon and a bit of heat. An impressive wine, but sort of the opposite of fresh and precise.

This was actually better on PnP than after 90 minutes of air. The flavors were more robust initially and then faded with air...at that point it became a bit dull and flat. I realize that this runs counter to the "decant Aubert Chardonnay" rule (as Mark recommends), but for us this bottle was better on PnP. My fifth Aubert Chardonnay and the third hit...along with the '10 Lauren and my favorite, the '12 Eastside. The two disappointments were the '09 Richie and the '12 Lauren.

An evening with friends at Blue Hill (Blue Hill at Stone Barns, Pocantico Hills, NY): We had this a few months ago, and I enjoyed it so much I wanted to try it again, and nothing has changed; slightly cloudy appearance in the glass, a very elegant hybrid of floral and citric notes, and a follow-through on the palate of those same notes, coupled with a pleasant creamy texture. No discernible oak whatsoever. This is a fine Chardonnay.

Hazy on initial pour but clearing up several minutes thereafter. Medium lemon in color w/tinted green hues at the rim exhibiting youthful aromas of lemon curd, crushed orange peels, ripe stone fruits, baking spices and sea salt. Dry w/medium (+) levels of acidity and alcohol. This was laser sharp and almost unapproachable initially. Went to dinner and came back two hours later an it was rocking! Soft textured and beautifully layered. Richly appointed flavors of aforementioned fruit are elegantly placed along a back-drop of well integrated oak. Intensely long satisfying finish. Just lovely.

Decided to finish this off and while it is very good, there is just a hint of oak that feels out of place in the finish. Perhaps it is a weird spot for the bottle and it isn't anything awful but just not as good as some other Chardonnays so took it down a point on my oh so scientific (tongue firmly in cheek) scale. I would pick a nice aged white burg over this pretty quickly right now but I grant not a fair comparison since this is but a baby. Hands off the other bottle for years!

A Friday evening at Marea (Marea, NYC): Pale, slightly cloudy yellow in the glass. On the nose, a lovely mixture of tangerine, honeysuckle, and other floral notes, reminiscent of a viognier more than a chardonnay. On the palate, a blend of citrus fruit (orange, tangerine, lemon) and softer fruits (pears, honeydews), somehow crisp and creamy on the palate at the same time. I'd love to see what this wine becomes with a few years of age.

Coravin Pull #1 - 2nd Aubert from 2012 and let me just say that if you drink this immediately after pouring you will get a vastly (and I mean vastly) different wine than if you wait an hour. Initially it is very acidic and masks a lot of the beautiful nuanced layers of fruit. I love a laser-like grand cru chablis but this is just too much acidity for my palate.
An hour of sitting open in the glass and it is beautiful. The acidity has calmed down so much that the wine hardly seems like it was when first poured. For me...this is a mandatory 1 hour decant before drinking or many more years in the bottle.
