Opened at 5pm, poured a small glass - Juicy, smooth, little to no tannin. Left it for 45min, poured into a small decanter and served at 6pm, plenty of cherries, raisin, strawberry jam, and fresh leather aromas. smooth palate, well-integrated, probably just a bit over the hill.

Very enjoyable over 3 days. Ruby to garnet color. Nose shows aromas of cherry and strawberry with leather and sandlewood secondaries. Less fruit/more leather and tobacco on the palate. Fine grained tannin on the finish.

excellent. decanted for about 30 minutes, could have used more as the wine got better as the evening wore on. fruit on the nose, a little heat as well. blackberry, cherry and earth. wood was minimal, which i think is the right thing with this type of wine. the finish was not as long as i would have liked, but the tannins were enjoyable and just enough to dry the teeth a little. looking forward to the next bottle.

Drank side by side with 2010 Masciarelli d'Abruzzo. This was very drinkable but a little on the light garnet color and light on tanin. Preferred Masciarelli even though it is not at its peak yet.

Weekly tasting group #197; A fully blind test. (@ CvR): Transparent red with a slightly garnet rim. In the bouquet cherries, raspberries and sweet spices. On the palate red berries, some earth, sweet spices, a touch of sweetness, firm acidity and mild tannin. Lush wine which gained in complexity with some more air time. Good length. Ready now if you decant it one or two hours before drinking, or wait a few years. Will still be nice around 2018+.

Deep crimson core with good clarity, paler rim; like the aromatics, cedar, sandalwood, very floral, roses, fresh cherry and ripe strawberry, some oak influence, spice; silky texture, tart cherry that's dried, strawberry fruit leather, some tannin on the finish, orange oil, herbs, cedar; as good as many Brunellos but half the cost; drinking really well now but that is a common theme amongst many of the 2011 Tuscans.

Avignonesi 2011 Grandi Annate release (Eataly): 200,000 btls. this wine really elevates the earthiness of the mushroom on the polenta. darker red cherry aromas. the garlic in the mushrooms and the wine make for pulling some Chinese brown garlic sauce from the room. 'a ripe full-bodied vintage. a warm year.' There's a mention of exposing Sangiovese to O2 during the first 6-12 months of its life to soften the tannin.

After some 2 hours in the decanter the nose is generously open and expressive, reminiscent of a smoky, dusty cloud filled with pure, ripe sour cherry fruit, sandalwood and hints of licorice. Most savory and bright, exactly as one would hope it to be. On the palate medium bodied and quite silky on the attack, though with a formidable structure that soon reveals itself. Along with the typical high acidity there are gripping tannins that lead to a dry, slightly bitter finish. Very juicy and lifted, full of vitality. It is quite a contrast between the silky entry and the drying finish, but still the wine sports a fine balance and high drinkability. There is absolutely no new oak to be seen, ditto any fat, thus making this seem like a very traditional, delightfully austere expression of Sangiovese. No doubt there is upside, but I have no problems enjoying this at the moment.
Nice nose. Cherries, leather, some strawberries and spices. Supportive fine tannins, and well balanced. Fresh, smooth for a VNdM. Long rustic finish. Lacks the details and direction. Will probably improve by age. 5+9+10+7+7+50=88

Bring Your Own Bottle Non-Blind (Bin 75): See through dark crimson; sexy aromatic nose, dried red fruit, soft, elegant, floral, roses; good acid, slightly grainy tannin, dried red fruit, slight cedar; just a notch lesser than the great 2010 but still delicious.

Solid, accessible, modern with some new barrique employees. Now farmed organic and biodynamic under Velerie Saverys, owner since 2009. Also, now all estate fruit. Dark cherry, anise, licorice. It would seem this is 100% Sangiovese. Concentrated. Who said 'baby brunello?'

Great Sangiovese here with all the bells and whistles - sour cherry fruit, Tuscan spice, leather, earth and all in balance. Greenblanket's only quibble is that it may be just a touch big.

At restaurant in Sarteano, €28 off the list. No formal note. This was delicious, with piercingly pure, slightly sour red cherry fruit, a touch of earth and leather, firm, but reasonably fine tannins, good depth of fruit and vibrant acidity carrying a very good length finish. Benchmark Vino Nobile.

This is the most expressive and flavorful Sangiovese I think I've ever had. Dark ruby colored, medium-full bodied with nice polish and balance presenting full forward black cherry and plum fruits accented by a layer of tobacco leaf and spice turning to tones of earth and smoke on the finish. This wine offers nice QPR at $20 for sophisticated special occasion or everyday drinking.

Samples on a Saturday: Bright ruby colored. Lovely bright red berry fruit on the nose, laced with lavender, some sweet pipe tobacco and cedar. Fresh and vibrant on the palate, with medium tannins and acid. The strawberry and cherry fruit is tangy but round at the same time. I like the secondary flavors of roses, tobacco, cedar and charcoal. The oak adds some spice and coffee elements, but I don’t find them bothersome at all. Well-integrated, tasty stuff.
