Served blind, alas, we did not do well. The chamfor nose is quite evident, wonderful cool style, we went first to Burgundy, but settled on Loire, thinking cab franc, such is the mineral intensity, the cool, peppery tone. Very young, of course, still opne for earlier drinking than usually. #Søllerød#MB

Really evolved over time, with tannins integrating better and some funk/metal blowing off.
Fleshy, forward, and to me olivine in the extreme. Canned olives in olive oil on the nose and also on the palette. Nice, but could do with more age. Not a ton of complexity at this stage but well balanced.

A little shy on day one. But showing the day after so leave it for a while. Deep earthy nose with chocolate, raw meat and ripe black fruit. Big palate with some alcohol sharpness showing nice ripe berry juice with the right amount of acidity. Minutelong finish. Great wine.

Very closed currently and shut down with more air. Coaxing reveals blackberry, cedar and meat aromas. Deep, layered and concentrated on the full bodied palate which finishes long. Hard to assess at this stage. Hold.
WSET Notes:
Deep garnet.
Medium intensity on the nose with blackberry, cedar, liquourice, meat, earth and musk. Developing.
Pronounced and dry on the palate. Full body, high tannins, high acidity, medium alcohol, long finish.
Dégustation verticale du Cornas du domaine Clape (Restaurant Les Mômes): Joli nez de mûres et de truffes. A bit reduced with some matchstick notes that didn’t blow off quickly. However it was otherwise classic, especially meaty, a little iron, none too fruity. I thought it was much too early to open.

Tasted vs the 2015. Lighter in both color and body. Floral, almost Burgundian. Lean bodied, iron and iodine. Happy, fun wine. Can be enjoyed now, but will also live. Clape tasting chez Lillelund.

First impression: Dry, young, firm - and somewhat slim, at least compared to the 2015. Fine acidity, bright fruit, olives here, more so than the iron and the blood. Lovely, elegant wine, fine length. On day 2 - this wine has not moved.

Deep red-purple. Complex and pleasant nose of raw meat, wax, metal shavings, blueberries, and eucalyptus. Hints of leather. The wine still has a tight structure with rather firm tannins. Taste of dark fruit, some earthly minerality, blueberries, suede leather, forest floor, and pepper. Long.

Perfumed nose that is full of sharp pepper and complimented with dark meats and spice, grape bubblegum, wet wood, smoke and a hint of dark black cherries. Palate is young and tight, with dark purple and blue fruit, tight tannins and a brooding structure without clear delineation. Fininish has some nice length but mostly tannin driven and kind of young to fully assess.
Drank it too o young but a nice wine with upside.

dark color, scents of blackberries, lavender and mint lead way to a refined and elegant palate, deep plum and cassis flavors are laced with hints of iron and stone, totally unique and classy, mouthwatering and dark, long stony finish, drinks well now with decant and will hold up well in the cellar, stellar match with red wine braised shortribs

2 hour decant. Blackcurrant leaf, white pepper, black cherry, clove, tar, leather. Very smooth on the palate, medium body, medium acid, medium tannin. This is completely different from the monolithic 2015 and 2010. A few years will see some improvement but It’s basically ready to be enjoyed now.

Second Sunday Group: Cornas vs Côte-Rôtie (Barb's): Double blind. Subtle and restrained. Black fruit and pepper notes eventually emerge, but is remains rather closed. Better fruit on the palate, though it's thin and tails off on the finish. Black raspberry and dirty, earthy notes as it sits longer though the palate has become sharp and angular. Meh.

Classic Northern Rhone nose of dark fruit, black berries, black olives, brine, and thyme. Round on the palate, yet with big and drying tannins. Lots of fruit and black cherries are present as well. Long finish. This is very young and very promising. Hold for 10 years. 94-96

Opened and decanted an hour ahead of a beef slider feast, then drank over the following three hours. Murky purple-crimson color. The floral nose bring cherry blossoms, fresh lavender, spring violets, spearmint, grape menthol, and a whiff of petrol. The palate is medium, tight, compact, and supple, bringing a blend of red and black fruit, including red cherries, blackberries, and plums, along with dried leather, sweet tobacco, mushroom gravy, and tangy raspberries into an extended finish of thick, refined tannins and juicy acidity. Very good weight on this, almost creamy, but it’s core is ultimately mute. Will be best after 2024. Technical score: 93. Enjoyment score: 91.

Blah, blah, something, too young, mumble mumble. Brilliant nose and palate; this is about as cornasien as it gets. It's black fruited, meaty, bloody, and savoury. The olives and stems don't seem to make a big appearance here; it's certainly quite primary at this stage. The tannins, however, aren't particularly prominent, and I would have to guess this is probably a slightly more accessible version of the wine; one to drink while the better vintages age. But maybe not yet, this is indeed young.

Not atypical of a Clape Cornas, this primary, pissed-off little spider monkey was a spitfire full of tart, constricted, dry, and biting flavors (if "flavors" is even the right word to use here). A few somewhat discernible notes of crunchy cranberry, alcohol, salted meat, and bitter rhubarb. A total saliva sucker, with a rush of heat on the back end.
Not even really worth evaluating for another decade. Hold until North Korea embraces capitalism.
Beautiful nose of crushed fruit, violets, spice; nice dark fruit, a bit brooding but also a bit soft and silky at the same time. Lovely wine in a tricky vintage. Not sure if this is destined for a long life, though.

Deep and intense black cherry color. Rich and meaty nose with aromas of ripe black forest berries, aromatic violet notes, some licorice, a little bit of smoky and earthy tones and a hint of pungent black pepper. Overall the nose here feels very fragrant and attractive. The wine is full-bodied and ripe, yet noticeably dry and crunchy on the palate with bright flavors of fresh, brambly blackberries, smoke, some tart crowberries, a little bit of crisp bacon and a hint of peppery spice. Overall the wine feels nicely structured with moderately high acidity and firm, medium tannins. The finish is dry, vibrant and juicy with long flavors of blackberries, some sun-baked earthy tones, a little bit of stony minerality, a hint of bloody game and a touch of smoke.
A classic, vibrant and pure old-school Syrah full of unadulterated Syrah fruit with no obfuscating oak character to be seen. Although the wine is lacking a bit character and complexity at this point, being so young and all that jazz, it is still very approachable and thoroughly enjoyable - not always a given with Cornas - but still structured enough to stund up to heartier dishes or long aging in a cellar. Shows a lot of promise; the score is bound to go up as the primary flavors start to give way to the more tertiary characteristics.

Dark, opaque garnet; dark, very brooding, deep plum/blackberry, very rocky, mineral, quite structured, this needs a lot of time, a little hard to read at this young stage. Opens with air to be just a bit more generous, but still quite reserved. There is plenty of good material here, though it's in hiding at the moment. I love the dark, secretive intensity, quite a good result in a difficult vintage. Buy this and hold it for 10-15 years. Giving it a score to reflect long term potential.

Ruby but not inky. Gorgeous florality with that hint of violets. Medium bodied, fairly light weight in the realm of Clape Cornas-nothing like 2009, 2010, or 2011. While not a beast, the tradeoff is fine mineral underpinning, mixed red and black fruit, and zingy acidity to accompany the tannins. Definitely a leaner, cooler vintage which needs time but accentuates the aromatics and complexity of the wine.
