Last bottle. Seems to be doing a bit better than the previous one. Still showing some raisins, but a bit more cohesive and integrated than the previous one. In any event this is definitely on the decline, not nearly as good as the earlier bottles I enjoyed.

Not as good as earlier bottles - which I've always enjoyed. Typically 88-90+ points to my palate. But not this one - which is dominated by some iffy sour raisin notes, and seems to have fallen apart. It's drinkable, but not necessarily enjoyable. I still have one left so I'm hoping this bottle is an exception, but I suspect the window has passed ...

Too oaky. Fruit forward - cherry/berry. Medium bodied. The last few bottles we've had of this have disappointed compared to the bottle we opened in 2008. Not sure if due to our changing tastes, evolution of wine in the bottle, or different storage conditions. Suspect it may be changing tastes, as my notes match up fairly well.

great wine for the money. Solid fruit nose of currant, earth and tea. Dark fruit continues along with a little coffee, leather and vanilla. Tannins are lighter and this definitely opened up with cooling (as rec on label) and time in the glass.

Currant, cedar and tea leaves. The label recommended slightly chilling prior to drinking, which, believe it or not, made a big difference in bringing out the dark fruit. The last of the 3 bottles, this was the best. Great QPR.

Color: Dark purple/ruby. Nose: Gobs of dark fruit: plum, blackberry, and blueberries. Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with a relativley silky feel. Short finish. On the third day of drinking, this really came into its own. Opened up a TON. Taste: black fruit, earth, leather, and some vanilla. Overall: A good effort that got better with each passing day.

Reamarkably different from the last bottle: heavier and not at all endearing pepper & alcohol heat flavors. Dirty tobacco and old prunes. Inetersting but not terribly enjoyable. Two more bottle left. May not rebuy even at the $10 price previously thought of as a bargain.

Decanted in glass over an hour. Very dark red color. Nose is dark fruits, blackberries, tea & coffee. Medium body but not much complexity on the palate with a somewhat short finish. Not really any tannin and the tea element lingers a bit awkwardly on the finish. This awkward finish was much less noticeble the second & third day and the body did seem to take on a little more structure. Overall it's a bold, decent wine that is a little disjointed initially but given some air time comes together just fine. No complaints at the $10 price point

Price considered....I am not impressed. Maybe this wine is just not my style. This wine has an unusual flavor and aftertaste that is rather harsh. I agree with VINACULL's conclusions completely. However, after letting it sit, the second day it was much better. The harsh edge has softened. In keeping with the point rating scale guidelines...this wine is on the lower end of good.

Lovely nose of oak and fruit. Medium bodied. Dark berry and cherry notes on palate. It's a dry wine but it has a sweetness to the fruit. A really enjoyable & hedonistic wine. We're getting a case.

Dark Garnett Red to purple in color. Dark but not opaque. Dark black fruit, plum and rusty steel on the nose. Sweet Hi-c action with Cherry cola and spice on the mid palate. Finish is dry, but this comes across as a sweet wine to me. Went well with Chocolate cup-cakes.

Dark and ripe. Deep red to purple. Very strong steel with deep current and dark fruit. This was much better the second night. Paired well with grilled meat and roated vegtables, but not as much fun to drink on it's own. I think this is a good food bottle for rich dishes.

Nose of sour cherry with hint of juniper and slight metallic notes. Not nearly as heavy as you would expect from the nose. More medium than full bodied with lots of cherry and cedar. Long finish with lots of tannins. Maybe cellar for another year or two?

Black pepper, licorice and sour cherry o the nose. A bit of alcohol, but I popped and poured so that is not unexpected. Medium to high tannins, pretty dry. Plum and dark cherry on the attack and sour cherry, pepper on the mid palate and finish. Ate it with spicy foods both nights and it seemed more peppery then it may otherwise. Nice for the price point, have 3 more to let sit and develop.

Opened this last bottle thinking we would use half for pasta sauce, but it turned out be decent. No sign of the fruit overdone or baked like the last five bottles. Bouquet and flavors of cherry, dark berry, cinamon, earth, and a little vanilla. Fairly smooth, decent balance. Having had such a mixed experience with this wine, I am left ambivalent, and rest assured I won't be buying more.

After another couple bottles of this, the conclusion is that it's just not our style, and not what I expected based on reviews/scores. To me there is a mildly baked or ripe pruniness to the plum fruit profile, and mild raisin in the aftertaste; Sun Maid fans rejoice. It's not that I don't like those flavors as food or in wine, it's that they just don't seem flattering here. In the last bottle, the transition from midpalate to finish was accompanied by some rather harsh tannins that leave me far from excited. After leaving 1/2 left in the bottle overnight, I cannot say it is improved because the fruit is showing some oxidation effects and the rough edges are still there. Looking forward to moving on after the next/last bottle.

decanted for about 45 to an hour, before first glass. On the nose loads of dark fruit, jump out. ON the palate there are raspberries, earth and a bit of spice. Very nice, the tannins are present but not overpowering. Just a bit of heat on the end is distracting.

Initial fruit leather and earth quickly overpowered by layers of fake fruit could not get over, unpleasant long fake fruit finish. Would not buy again. If you don't mind fakey fruit explosions you might liek this.

I would recommend an hour plus decant. I initially popped and poured and, while nice, the fruit was a little disjointed and the finish a bit hot. After a couple of hours it all fell into place and this was a very enjoyable and complex wine for the price. Dark fruits, raspberry, plum, cherries and pepper.
Day two: the grapey aromas of the Malbec are really coming thru. This almost smells like Welch's grape juice now.

Largely the same as before, although for this bottle the lesser ripe dried fruit component was raisin rather than prune - compared to the more dominant cherry flavor previously noted. Interesting that spouse who normally says little about daily reds commented "this is the same one we had last week, and I'm still not crazy about it". Decent easy drinking red but really nothing to get excited about. Looks like I'm going to have to space out the remaining three bottles.

As Randy Jackson would say, this was just aw'ight for me dawg, which is disappointing given the scores and hype. Color a tainted red purple. Medium concentrated nose of raspberry, cherry, alcohol, spice, little oak. Attack is offputting for me, with a little overripe plum (or prune) combined with cherry and cranberry noted by others. Overall length short, little midpalate. Rough edges on the back with some heat showing. Over 3 hours with air this picked up some tobacco and earth that helped the profile. Combo with shrimp linguini in spicy red sauce was not as fabulous as one might expect. A good quaffer for price, but not sad I only bought a few bottles.

Great bottle of wine for the price. Decanted for 45 mins. It had nice dark purple color. The nose was little green and hot. Once in your mouth a taste of red fruit, spices, little oak. I thought the finish was really nice 30 sec. Overall a decent wine for the price $11.90.

Popped and poured. On the nose, green pepper, marshmallow, dark berries. On the palate, sweet red fruit, pepper, cranberry, and some tannins. My better put together than the last bottle. Hopefully it continues down this path. Great value with some upside.

Rich nose or dark berries and spice. The same characteristics follow through onto the palatte, with a nice fruit presence. I think of this as a less expensive Clos de los Siete. Very nice.

Opened it last night and I'm having more of it with lunch. On the second day it emitted a really nice tomato on the nose with just a slight hint of cherry. This is going to go great with pasta. On the palate, a little weak. There's an aftertaste of the tomato I was mentioning, but the cherry is a bit stronger, though still not very.

Nice ruby color; subdued cherry nose with a bit of alcohol (not good, but not in a nasty medicinal way either). Medium bodied with soft tannins on the palate; lots of cherry and a bit of spice with a pleasant but short finish. Not complex, but a very nice wine for $10. I've had a lot worse "house" pours at restaurants that cost more per glass than a bottle of this.

Fruit forward wine, enjoyed by many at the party but not my favourite. Preferred the 2002 Sansonnet and the 2005 Concho y Toro Cabernet Marqués de Casa which is more my style. This is definitely more new world, excellent QPR by the positive comments from others who tried it

A bit of veggie on the nose for myself. A bit of red beets. The mid palette was distinctively different from the initial impression but I could place my finger on it. A wonderful finish. First I found it slightly off dry but it dissipated quickly leaving a hint of pepper. I found it rather complex based on my limited experience. Rikki thought it was wonderful very smooth.

Didn’t get a whole lot of fruit with this wine. Nose of espresso and cola with a little cranberry. Rather enjoyed the mouth feel as it had the layering affect of subtle milk chocolate but acidic. Yes it was a little all over the place for me. Little heat on the finish. Nice little wine for the price at the WL.

Color is reddish purple. When first opened, the nose was vegetal, like fresh corn. Not appealing at all! Second day open brings raspberries and lots of alcohol on the nose. Alcohol is definitely present, but not overwhelming, on the taste. Matched up nicely with acidity. Light tannins and subtle red fruit. Slight sour note on the finish. Length of finish disappoints.

Nose is light, red berries mostly, not very expressive. The attack starts with a peppery cranberry raspberry taste tastes a bit light, Ocean Spray comes to mind. The Mid-palate adds an almost grape jelly like flavor if anything. The finish is adequate with a grape liquor flavor sort of disjointed. Overall a good sipper for the price +/-$10 but nothing to get worked up over. Can it age? I don't know but at least it can do it standing up cause it has a plastic cork and a label that looks like it was made on a PC.

nose: sweet nose of berries with raspberries, cherries, and mulberries. A bit fake on the nose but also getting a slight bit of pepper, but at the same time, some acetone notes. I'm not really digging this nose all that much, it just seems a bit too fake and almost smells sauternes like
taste: smooth attack on the palate with lots of mixed berry notes of raspberries and dark cherries. Over ripe and very sweet. Almost seems like there is some residual sugar put into this
overall: this is a decent made wine, but there is a lot of fake ness with it. It just doesn't do it for me at all. Just too over ripe and little finish on it

Clear dark ruby color. On the nose - Pepper, marshmallow, dark berrys. On the palate, pepper, cranberry, OAK, some tannins. Very disjointed at this stage, kind of a ripe/underripe flavor at the same time. Quite tannic. Very good but the value I was led to believe it was. Hopefully this will integrate with time, but it can't be stored horizontally because of the composite cork. My experience with storing composite corks horizontally suggests that the wine gets tainted with the plastic.

Decent bottle but nothing to get excited over, even at this price point. Thought the syrah in this blend made the wine off balance and too spicy to be enjoyable on its own. Can see how they would pair nicely with a red pasta sauce or pizza.

Tied for 3 out of 4, first impression of this wine is its young but interesting especially at this price point. The wine is plummy, peppery, herbal with a dry tannic finish with notes of tar and asphalt. I would lay this one down for 2 years and I think some of the rough edges could be knocked off.

EXCELLENT This wine is layered with fruit. Nice tannin structure with a little bit of heat on the back end. Like most wines this one is WAY too young to be enjoying now and with time and proper cellaring will move into the outstanding range of 90-91. For me the Syrah shows through more than any of the other grapes with hints of plum and other dark fruit. The finish is nice but the elegance does not follow and in the end your left with mostly heat.
This bottle is a steal at this price point. I rate bottle to bottle, not against peers or QPR so this 89 is as good as any other wine I would consider an 89. (2003 Novy Family Wines Syrah Christensen Family Vineyard Russian River Valley)

Grape Ape is right on - can't add to that description. Tasted this at a wine event and loved it - bought a case pre-release and have been waiting for delivery to open the first bottle. Worth the wait and definitely worth the price of $10. Will enjoy it over this winter season for sure.

Pop and pour. Dark ruby. Vibrant and jammy black cherry and raspberry aromas. Nose grows more complex with air and time, adding a tar / asphalt component. Juicy black cherry and raspberry flavors carry over to the palate and give way to a hint of coffee finishing with some minerality. Good acidity and balance. My only complaint may be that it is slightly hollow on the mid-palate (and the plastic cork), otherwise this really delivers and at $9.99 is a huge QPR.

popped and poured. Great jammy red fruit aroma. Fruit flavor continued on the palate where it was joined by maybe some cinnamon or other spice. After being open for about an hour the wine really seemed to come together and had great fruit w/o being over the top as well as some secondary flavors, cinnamon joined by maybe a little chocolate. Great acidty and a nice finish...Solid effort and good QPR

No cork taint here- synthetic cork! Very aeromatic fruit with a little bit of heat & eucalyptus on the nose.
Let's give this a whirl- a full throttle bottle of wine. The tannins have already been tamed, a big bowl of fruit, and plenty of acid to give this wine a future. There's a nice backbone to carry the fruit. Medium to full bodied, with a 20 second finish. Reminds me of a lot of wines from Chile, not Argentina. Old world fans leave the room. After 30 minutes of air it's starting to come together.
My view- an excellant bottle of wine that needs a few years to integrate it's components. The tannins don't really need to soften, but it's a little out of wack and needs to integrate a bit. I'll say give it a drinking window of 2 to 8 years. Very nice now, much better later. I'm very happy that "the" Gary V. encouraged me to purchase a few cases.

Apparently a blend of equal parts Malbec, Syrah, and Cab Sauvignon. Nice nose of red fruit with slight floral (rose) scents. Medium body - dark red in color, translucent. Good quaffer, a touch sweet and a touch sour at the same time. Definite currants, a touch of cinnamon or clove or something I can't quite place. Can taste the malbec here as well as the CS - not so much the syrah. Nice easy drinker. Second day addition: Smooths out quite a bit and becomes rounder with the syrah showing through. More enjoyable the second day than the first. Better fruit - rounder red berries, less clove and currant. Will let my other bottles sit a while before I pop them.

Medium bodied with soft tannins on the palate; lots of cherry and a bit of spice with a pleasant but short finish. Not complex, but a very nice wine for $10. I've had a lot worse "house" pours at restaurants that cost more per glass than a bottle of this.

Can it age? I don't know but at least it can do it standing up cause it has a plastic cork and a label that looks like it was made on a PC.

taste: smooth attack on the palate with lots of mixed berry notes of raspberries and dark cherries. Over ripe and very sweet. Almost seems like there is some residual sugar put into this
overall: this is a decent made wine, but there is a lot of fake ness with it. It just doesn't do it for me at all. Just too over ripe and little finish on it

Tied for 3 out of 4, first impression of this wine is its young but interesting especially at this price point. The wine is plummy, peppery, herbal with a dry tannic finish with notes of tar and asphalt. I would lay this one down for 2 years and I think some of the rough edges could be knocked off.

EXCELLENT
This wine is layered with fruit.
