Full bodied and still youthful but wonderfully balanced and structured. Layers of textures and flavors, with complex notes of black cherries, cassis, eucalyptus, and dried mint. Shows beautifully with a decant.

Pleasant enough just not to the complexity or quality level I expected from previous tastes from this producer. Perhaps the Coravin pour several weeks earlier took something away from it, something I need to watch and note more closely.

I'd put this bottle up against the 2009 Hall Excellenz from three weeks ago and select this one. Great value if you love cab. You can spend way, way more and not have a proportionally better experience. Also, think this was suitable for non-cab drinkers. Was not a "knuckle dragger" in terms of alcohol percent, had good flavors, and had balance. There was not one dominating flavor which happens with a lot of cabs.

I drank this bottle over three nights. The wine was closed on the first night even with two hours of air and it progressively continued to improve on nights 2 and 3. Well made but nothing exceptional - balance of blue and black fruit, tannin, and acid. Decent QPR at $40ish from Costco provided it is Napa Valley Cabernet. I’d guess this bottling has at least another 1-3 years of drinking.

Luscious front, decadent. Not too big, not too small. Rounded in all the right places but still complex in the mid palate with minerality, cedar and gentle masculinity. Lingering finish without a full punch to the jaw. Tannins still intact and balanced.

Ripe hedonistic Napa cab and not ashamed of it. Hit the spot tonight. Fairly ready to go on PnP. Black and red fruit, cocoa, round. Mellow tannins -- this is not a cab meant to be aged a long time, although I did enjoy this bottle more than the previous bottle consumed 18 months ago. Me - 91/92, Wife - 92/93

Two hour decant. Nearly opaque magenta color. Red apple on the nose. Smooth, dry palate with damp coffee grounds. Round tannins on the medium long finish. Poor start, but good finish. This was not as good as the last bottle of this I had.

Well balanced, the tannins have definitely softened and rounded out. I’d say ready to drink now. Did not change much over the two hours I had it opened and decanted. Solid notes of black fruit with some oak and a slight green pepper note (very slight).

Dark black red on rim of glass. Dark fruit all around with a hint of oak. Dark fruit tastes. Med-heavy wine. Not sure to say wow or it’s not that great for the price. Decantered over an hour might not have been enough time to let it open enough. If I had another i would hold onto the bottle a bit longer.

The wine is a dark red-purple with no browning. The nose is tight with hints of dried fruit. I kept getting the idea that the wine is in an awkward phase and would have been best served for it to get lost in the cellar for a few years! On the palate, a lot of fruit but not yet evolved to a pleasant, approachable wine.
Is this another example of the red wine rule emerging from Napa in this decade -- drink even, cellar the odd years?

My greatest wine bargain of 2017. Usually priced around $50 a bottle, I found 4 of these in the Clearance bin at my local grocery store...for $14 each. I had never heard of Faust, but took a chance and bought them all. And boy am I glad I did!
Wine was decanted for an hour. Beautiful purple color, medium bodied, a touch of vanilla, with juicy blackberry and blueberry fruit on the palate. Tannins are medium. Excellent balance.
Not as big as most Napa Cabs I have enjoyed, but this is delicious stuff that will only get better over the next 5 years. Glad I have 3 more bottles to monitor its development.

Quaffer- Palate dark mocha, cassis, sweet boysenberry, toasted oak barrel. Subdued nose, dark berries, some creme de menthe, and sweet pipe tobacco. Paired with pan seared N.Y. strip, mashed white sweet potatoes, sautéed onion and a rich integral demi- sauce. Better as a quaffer than a food wine, a few years has added some complexity to this wine. Opened up after an hour or so of decanting.

Paid $9 for a half bottle as a novelty experiment. Okay, so the winemaker manipulated the Cabernet Sauvignon to feature blueberry and boysenberry syrup, crème de cassis sweetness, with interwoven dark chocolate ganache and mocha veins, artificially enhanced the textural weight, removed all but trace elements of Napa terroir, and stripped out, even annihilated, the tannins. This aside, and taking my customary aversion to such abominations into consideration, I found this reasonably enjoyable. Please allow me to explain:
The winemaker destroyed the tannins (why would anyone ever want to do that!?!?!?), but left medium plus acid in place, kept the alcohol in check (14.5 on the label), and did not over oak it. Thus, while a fruit bomb of the first order of fruit bombs, it is not an alcohol monster, nor a lumber fest. Also, the wine's acid made it a very good pairing with seasoned Petite Sirloin, even bringing out pepper and blackcurrant notes. Even with the acid, drink this over the next three to five years.
Would not buy another half bottle at $9, but do not regret the experience.
Holy Moly, totally delicious! Let it decant an hour. Dark fruit, tobacco, leather. Had with our anniversary dinner, filet mignon, and almost didn't want to eat between sips. This is a really good Cab and wish we had more.

The Winemaker's Dinner: Quintessa (21 Club - NYC): For some this was the wine of the tasting. Drank next to the 2014 and where that was a bit more finesse and ready for business right away, this was much more powerful, structured, and young tasting. Also a bit more alcohol prevalent on the nose and initial sip here. Very blackberry. Lots of tannins. I went back towards the end of the night (so maybe 2.5 hours after pouring) and noticed that it had softened down somewhat. At that point more structured version of the 2014 - mostly fruity vanilla.

Ron purchased this, he lost the bet. Lots of acid, light on aromatics, bright cherry fruit, a touch of cassis, juicy style, not oaky, ripe tannins. The acid out weighs the fruit, not much on depth.

Pop and poured out to dinner and decanted the balance over a 2 hour period. I think this is in a good spot right now. Nose was prominent with aromas of dark cherry, roses and notes of cedar. Flavors similar and with more complexity than my last bottle in 2016. Very smooth with a good balance of tannins and acidity. Drink up!

There will be no confusing this opaque crimson, ripe "fruit bomb" with anything from Europe. That said, it offers plenty of pleasure by virtue of its luscious black cherry, plum, cedar and anise aromas and flavors. Medium-to-full-bodied, fresh, appropriately oaked and seamlessly alcoholic (14.5%), it stays dense on the mid-palate and has silky sweet tannins. The finish is medium in length and smooth. Purity of fruit and soft textures make this one a true crowd-pleaser. It is very drinkable now and should provide pleasure for another 7-8 years. Drink now-2025.

Reminded me alot of Burgess' 2010 Cab, with notes of mocha & currant, just with more finesse. Also, tbh my palate felt a bit off on this day.
Gave it an hour decant, and it just might calm down after another year or so, however the tannins arent as bold as one would want to hold up for an extended amount of time. QPR on this is kinda weak.

Restaurant pop in for a follow over 90 minutes. Head is a little congested and the wine doesn't taste as rich or full as it did just a few nights ago. Satiny tannins don't indicate a particularly long life, but it's an enjoyable wine dominated by ripe, dark red fruit.

Balance of a previously Coravan'd bottle; Nice color with nose is soft of dark fruit. Soft dark fruit continues on the palate with modest tannins that allow for a 15-20 sec finish. Much better now than when first sampled in Sept16. Good for near-term drinking through 2020, and a good value @ $40-45.

This was a 50th anniversary gift and my first Faust. I suspected it to be still young, but the gift required appreciation. It was very well matched with lemon-pepper chicken. I have tended a small orchard and vineyard since retirement and am likely biased toward my own familiarity. Dark cherry, black current, cigar box and a bit of chestnut in a medium finish resonate with me. However, I suspect five years in a good cellar will bring out much more.

Had at Sammy's in Mendham. An elegant and full bodied Napa cab. Blackberry fruits quickly give way to blueberry with some background of cherrry. Slightly velvet like mouth mouth feel which finishes with a lighter body of juice compar to the start.

Christmas in the OC, this one brought b some friends. Haven't had Faust in a few years. I have had good experience with Quintessa/Faust and Charles Thomas wines in the past.
Deep purple color. Dark red fruits, cedar, earth notes. Medium body and finish. Younger tannins, still resolving. Found this to be just ok, nothing special, a little dry on the plate. Maybe it's the 13 vintage, generally less accessible at this point (IMO), more tannic and in need of bottle age. Nice enough, nothing special....decent QPR

Attractive and appealing dark purple color with a nose of sweet-scented violets, blackberry, blueberry, cassis with a little bitter sweet dark chocolate, and some subtle earthy notes going on. I would call this wine more of an elegant Cab, more of a medium bodied and not a truly a big wine. None the less it’s a nicely constructed wine that has appeal and drinking nicely, a good middle of the week Cab. Because of its style, perhaps I should consider their high end wines. Not bad 90.5 Points.
Big black fruited Cabernet. And a good amount of structure on the back end as well. Meant to be more contemperary than Quintessa - so big, blockier, more structure. Tends to be mostly from Coombsville. 20% comes from the Rutherford Estate and then some stage coach in there as well. Designed to be opened upon release as well.

From Coombsville fruit. Medium plus nose shows oak notes, cedar, baking spice, vanilla, sweet pepper. Palate is a little sweet, but strong fruit, dark cherry, blackberry, vanilla, black plum, dark chocolate, very New World, very Napa. Tannins are nicely smooth, approachable now, medium plus alcohol and finish. Crowd pleaser style.

Coravin'd a large glass. Right out of the bottle this shows muted fruit on the nose; as others note this comes across the palate very dry. THere's a hint of green back-palate, otherwise the wine seems tight with some glycerin. Will try the balance of the bottle with some decanting and more time to follow to gauge whether or not to purchase more of this.

Preferred the 2012 from what we can remember. Deep Garnet Red, dark cherries and slightly rustic on the nose. Lots of dark fruits and cherries on the palate, but it is contained. Moderate body, moderate tannins (6.5/10) and short finish. Seems a little closed up, might be due to age. But it is a solid Napa Cab, nothing to blow you mind, just a solid cab

Drink up!

Soft, well integrated and right on point. Don't see a need for longer cellar or long decant. Just poured in for 20 minutes.

Not very impressed - typical Napa Cab.....but not very exciting and especially at this price point - it just didn't do anything for me. Drank this with Tri-Tip and baked potatoes. It was good.....just not something I'll run out and buy again for this price!

Upon opening it was extremely brambly. Taste of pure black currant and elderberry with bramble tannic background. A bit of chocolate and minerality.
Very pure.
Not sure if the stems were included but I wouldn't be surprised if this was the case.
Probably needs a few years to peak.
I had to lower the score, I can't find myself finishing the bottle and will use the rest for cooking.

Restaurant list order by some friends. Took a sniff after 10 minutes in the glass, followed by a taste to confirm the smell. Ordered a beer; just not my style.
They drained the bottle.
PnP, served non-blind.

Designed to be opened upon release as well.

i think this will be a lot better in a few years. For me in the heat of southwest florida it was a little to rich and sweet for me. It seemed very heavy and really sweet. Lots of red an blue fruits, vanilla extract, brown sugar, baking spices.

Crowd pleaser and a great pop & pour. More extracted than the 2012. Vanilla, oak, anise, blueberry, and minerals. Still some acid and tannin. Will improve with time open or in bottle.

Drank at a steakhouse. Very New World style. Like a toned down Caymus. Big fruit. Vanilla. Wood. This wine went straight to my head.

Very dry and bold. Could age another 5+ years. Notes of black currants, pencil lead and anise. Very nice. While a Napa Cab it must have some Petit Sirah.
