kɹʌɡ wɪθ dʌɡ (Chicago, IL): I've liked this bottle in the past before, but tonight I found this a little foursquare and lacking in comparison to all the other wines. Somewhat angular, and missing the integration that great bottles of this can have. Have to think this was in a bit a bit of a weird spot tonight, as I've very much enjoyed other bottles of this in the past. But of course, Krug is Krug.

Brought by Brian. From magnum. Nice yeasty/brioche aromas, ripe and tart apples, minerals and herbs. Palate w tart apples, some baked apples, mild nuts, herbs, and nice minerals. Nice elegant finish of fruit, brioche, minerals, and nuts. Just beginning to take on aged characteristics that add complexity to an already lovely wine. The aromas are better than the palate right now. I think it just needs some more time for everything to harmonize. But it's still freakin' delicious. 93+

Krug tasting at 67PM: Not sure if this bottle was representative or if it was advanced. Sweet and round with slight sherry notes, lacked acidity. Would have guessed 90s if blinded.
Champagne Cornucopia - DP vs Krug MV (Chez D): Somehow gentler and easier to get on with than the wine that came before it, but still somehow cerebral. This didn’t make it into my top 3 (or even 5) wines but an hour or two spent contemplating half a bottle of this would be time well spent.

Bienvenue a Champagne; 4/20/2023-4/29/2023 (Les Crayeres, various restaurants, Les Avises and a many wonderful producers): It’s hard to know and so it was either this or the 161 that was my ‘first Krug’ and sometimes in my mind also ‘my first Champagne’. I remember the moment because for some years I had agreed with others that if you added bubbles than maybe champagne better than some others but one champagne was very like another and so we didn’t need to stretch for wines in that category. And then I am sitting at a still red wine tasting where it was just an aperitif and for me it was this ‘epiphany’ because suddenly I understand that bubbles can have character and age and style and some years later I find myself in Champagne and in that time I almost drink this more than I drink any other wine because always I believe one should start a dinner with champagne (and often I like to end it even though the Champanois keep trying to tell me it’s not ok to pair their dry wine with sweet stuff). Ok - so to the 162. It’s not the 164 ‘Hello - I am going to be your best friend’. It’s still drinking really lovely. Class and maybe almost a touch more elegance than the 164 which surprises me. But with many of the same Krug notes. It’s excellent. I really do wonder was it this particular one or the year before…. But still, it is a wine where I can understand how someone can have the ‘epiphany’ so maybe that is all that matters.

A superb champagne and my bottle was disgorged in 2014 and is therefore perhaps more mature than the batch that was released sometime in 2016.
A textbook definition of a great champagne - great texture, great with food, and great finesse and complexity at the same time. The wine needs to be drink closer to room temperature rather than too cold. Golden colour, showing maturity and its black grape biased, the beads were fine and very elegant mousse, not too creamy. Notes of apricot, green apple, white truffle and coconut scented the nose. Beautifully sculpted body with drive and panache with fresh / bright acidity holding the honey, nectarine and cashew together. Such a refined finish and went beautifully with Chinese food - especially with the home made dim sum!
Still a baby but drink now to 2032+.

Krug GC 162-169eme (Chicago, IL): 416037. Among the most Kruggy of the Krugs today. More breadth and power, and showing some of the more oxidative notes that I associate with Krug when I first started drinking it. Generously proportioned as far as fruit is concerned; the acid/mineral structure isn't as pronounced here.

Sixteenth Annual White Truffle Dinner (Inovasi - Lake Bluff IL): Tasted just before 164eme and 168eme, this was my favorite of the trio. Both fresh and mature apple with very good depth, great textures, mousse and finesse, culminating in a very long, bright finish.

Light medium gold color. Drank a couple glasses over an hour plus. 162eme, 2006 base, PN22%, C35%, PM21%, disgirged winter 2012. Lovely toast rich and generous, apple blossoms, baked pear, raising dough, almond meal, wow this ticks really high on the olfactory senses. The palate is full and deep with pear, chalk, apple, toast and almond. Wonderful, showing some maturity now too.

169, base 2013. I was not really suprised because I prefer often the cold 2013 instead of 2012. Less opulent but more elegant and focussed. Great Krug perfume with lemon fruits and less roasted aromas. A long distance runner. 95-96

Birthday Lunch at Les Amis (Les Amis, Shaw House): At Les Amis - this was very pleasing, and drinking fairly nicely as well. The nose was quite classic Krug, with notes of buttery brioche floating around ripe notes of red apples, salty preserved limes, and just a light twist of earthy mineral and spice. A very pleasing nose. The palate was very nice too - full and creamy, with a nice touch of bright acidity enlivening gently powerful flavours of white fruit, maybe a hint of hazelnuts, all touched with a of mineral and spice stretching off into an effortlessly long finish. Like most Grande Cuvée bottles, this will get better with a bit more time, but it is drinking deliciously even now. Lovely with a lobster dish.

Zoom tasting with the wine group - Champagne and Red Burgundy (Zoom): Tasted blind. Deeper golden; aromatic, some matchstick reduction, more oxidative apple; palate is really fascinating with medium body, medium-plus acidity, low dosage, a really interesting strong fruit core with melon, pear, some tropical papaya, seems youthful despite the slight oxidative character; finish is long. This is character driven, seems a bit coiled but incredibly enjoyable. Reminds me of a Selosse in character. 93 On reveal, really a nice showing for Krug. A lot of character for a relatively large production cuvee.

This is just yummy stuff. While maybe not the most powerful or complex Krug, it is excellent juice. No new notes but make sure to drink at a cooler temp (touch warmer than cellar, too cold and you don’t get it’s full beauty) with enough time to open up and showcase its full profile. Great bubbles.

This got better over 2 hours open. Recommend 1 hour open. Very rich, mature, leesy, and oxidative nose. After open for a while gained depth, rich sweet fruit, with honey, and nutty taste. As always, a fantastic MV.

My first Krug -- and nothing can properly prepare you for it. I have to admit that I didn't get it at first: the power and richness, the mid-palate Druck, the secondary and tertiary notes. Where were the bright fresh fruits, the floral notes, the light autolysis, and freshly-baked bread notes?
Once you make peace with it though, and the temperature increases, the wave of pleasure is as hedonistic as it gets. Krug is all about the nutty umami flavors and this 162eme wasn't different. From dried nuts -- walnuts, hazelnut, chestnuts -- to lees influences -- sourdough bread, rolled oats, brioche -- to bottle age -- sugar barley, brown butter, baked apple -- this is unique and mesmerizing.
I tried pairing it with truffle and mushroom pasta and I am very glad that I did. When pairing think about what you would eat in Autumn and it'll be hard to go wrong.

ID: 313053. PNP into Zalto Burgundy glass (“Leaf” day): Medium golden to the eyes, brilliant colours.
Some eggwhite like notes suggesting reduction upfront that quickly blew off. Smoke, citrus fruits like grapefruits, brioche, florals and caramel, that has some sense of custard pudding to it. With time in glass more apricots, herbal notes. Hard not to like.
Simply perfect texture on palate with high acidity and minerality, some nice spices towards the persistent finish.
93-94 points.
Significant improvement over the drinking window. A lot of luxurious and caramel notes. 94-95 points.

PnP then enjoyed over next 45 minutes during date night in my backyard trying to avoid the two scary monsters that beg non-stop for our undivided attention. This is at a perfect stage right now, loads of Meyer lemon, ginger, nutty and brioche flavors encapsulated with a strong mineral undertone easing acid tension all with a rich mouthfeel. I could chug-a-lug (if one could chug champagne) this all night. Supper yummy and a great lead in to a 2008 Abreu for the last two episodes of season 3 Ozarks (a must watch series if you haven’t watched it yet). Drink now as it’s at its peak with a limited upside if any (although it has time before its decline)

Lite mörkare i färgen med mycket bubblor. Rejäl doft, bl.a. citrus. Lite mognad, härliga bubblor, smälter i munnen. Äpplen kommer efter några timmar. Min favorit!
Omdömen som kom upp från andra: lite sluten på näsan, krut, gröna toner, grönsaker, lite anonym och kort, friskhet syra, inte så utvecklad med mycket potential kvar.

Krug House (2006 release) (Chicago, IL): 414082. Probably my favourite bottle of the evening (again). This is Jungian archetypal Krug. Rich and concentrated, with a balance of oxidative nutty tones and plenty of bright acidity-driven freshness. It's really a complete package. These older GCs are really some of the best champagnes out there (I'm thinking of an older 2005 disgorgement that I drank recently, too).

Krug House (2006 release) (Chicago, IL): 414082. Probably my favourite of the wines poured tonight -- this tasted the closest to my conception of Krug. A little nuttier with some very lovely browned fruit tones, counterbalanced by acidity that is there but not screechy. Rounded on the palate, this was the wine most ready to drink and showing the best.

Krug dinner at Farr Vintners (Farr Vintners London): Very nice and side by side the 2006 vintage my slight preference for the NV 162 but there is certainly a detectable similarity between the two. 48/31/21 Pinot/Chard/Meunier. Medium plus nose shows nice earth, yellow flowers, deeper feel than the 167eme, mineral tone, must. Palate matches with complexities better than I'm describing, lees notes, depth and freshness together.

The 162nd Edition is one of the finer Krug Grande Cuvee in recent vintages, 2006 base vintage, a blend of vintages from 1990 - 2007, disgorged in 2014. Most of the Krug 162nd Edition were labelled as normal Grande Cuvee but the Krug ID from this edition will show 214xxx or 314xxx. The 2006 vintage suits Krug house style excellently, structured and generous which complements Krug’s muscular oxidative style well. Luminous Chardonnay fruits from Mesnil-sur-Oger, Avize and Villers Mamery giving a bright mineral edge, and the structured Pinot fruits fits the creamy oxidative style. Mousey and rich. (93/100)

MV KRUG GRAND CUVEE 162eme EDITION BRUT- ID# 414082I; I just had to throw this in to compliment the 03` and I was also curious to see where this edition is not having had it previously; glad I did as it stood head and shoulders above the 03` with lots more of everything; it was full bodied and full of rich and luscious flavours and yet had that MV Krug grace and charm; with bright acidity, it had generous amounts of toasted brioche, stone fruit and citrus with ginger and spice accents, all in perfect balance; received its cork in the winter of 2014, made from a blend of 142 wines representing 11 different years with 1990 the oldest and 2006 the youngest.

An off bottle similar notes but a bitter note carried through from the beginning. Still good but not great.

Not blind, base 2006
Together with cdm and vintage 2006. The most complex one in nose and palate but with the least precision and density. Some honey and nut notes, I would drink it over the next 5-7 years. 94

Similar to April 18 but with a bit more Meyer lemon. Love me some Krug. Why drink other champagne?

When pairing think about what you would eat in Autumn and it'll be hard to go wrong.

even with the vinatge 2006, Krug GC delivers. Tropical fruits, starting to reach his Peak, some roasted Aromas but still phantastic mouth watering acidity, Good to Food. 93

Krug Grande Cuvée: Many Editions (Park Ridge Country Club): Toasted brioche with ripe apple and baked apple. Good depth and overall balance, with lots of everything, just not nearly as complex as 158 or 164 tonight.

This is in a peak spot for my palate. Starting to show some complexity and nuance with brioche, toasty orchard fruit, mineral and a hint of oxidation. Plenty of richness and verve. Lovely.

Provades på en Krug GC-provning innehållande den första flaskan från 78-82, 159 ème, 160 ème, 162 ème, 163 ème, 164 ème, 166 ème och 167 ème.
Lite mörkare i färgen med mycket bubblor. Rejäl doft, bl.a. citrus. Lite mognad, härliga bubblor, smälter i munnen. Äpplen kommer efter några timmar. Min favorit!
Omdömen som kom upp från andra: lite sluten på näsan, krut, gröna toner, grönsaker, lite anonym och kort, friskhet syra, inte så utvecklad med mycket potential kvar.

PnP and drank over 30 minutes. Beautiful nose and palate of nutty brioche bread that cuts seamlessly through the medium citrus and mineral undertow. Beautiful champagne.

Lovely roast notes and citrus but in the context of the evening simply not quite matching the Krug NV 164 out of magnum.

ID: 213032. Krug 162 before the 162eme label. Based on the 2006 vintage. Similar to the 163 this has delicious aged notes but with more weight and complexity. A bit richer and with more depth but also with wonderful fruit and acidity. Very balanced and also drinking well now. Paired nicely with caribbean lobster.

Krug Tasting with Olivier Krug (Knightsbridge - Northbrook IL): Magnum. The release with 2006 as the youngest vintage that also makes up the plurality of the cuvée. This has been my favorite Grande Cuvée of the past decade since release. Same again today. Powerful and very concentrated with ripe apple throughout plus lots of acidity and minerality. Very long.
