Walk around tasting. Very expressive nose of dark berries, tomato leaf, pencil lead, dried herbs. Very cab franc on the palate cassis, black cherry, black olive and a little bell pepper. Surprisingly resolved tannins and lower acidity feel than I expected. Exotic and magnificent. Score: 93. Relative to expectations: ++

Drinking lovely, though still relatively youthful. Classic Cab Franc here with the silky texture and high pedigree expected from Rougeard. Looks like I have another bottle of this, which I’ll probably wait at least a couple of years on.

What a perfumed nose. This is so exciting. Bellpepper, blueberries, violets, lilacs and a million different other flowers I don't know the name of. Like a garden. Things change on the palate - fruit is really fading. Needs drinking up. Can't see this getting any better. But the nose... wow

Extremely interesting and intellectual wine. Bell pepper in the attack, very elegant, with a great bright acidity. Never quite came together with a slightly missing mid palate , and suffered by comparison to the 2014 what was the richer and more complete wine, but a joy to drink as well. At a perfect point in its evolution, with a fruit, acid, minerals, and the beginnings of some secondary aromas.

DAY 1 Served with VINLOQ 👃Red berries with anise, cardamom, clove, licorice. Became perfumed with time in the glass 👅Earthy, herbals, spices & fruit. Light tannins
"Slow Decanted" the remaining wine in my refrigerator
DAY5 👃More detailed with red fruit, 5 spice, ash, green leaves & purple flowers. Elegant & seductive 👅Silky and classy. Med body. Great finish. Needs a touch more midpalate intensity but it is refined, charming and irresistible
DAY 10 Still drinking well but not hitting all of the subtle notes
Slow Decanting preference: Day5>Day1>Day10

Montreal 2022; 9/23/2022-9/25/2022 (Montreal): This pours light ruby in the glass. The nose is immediately expressive and complex, showing an extremely classical, gorgeous, and immaculate Loire Cab Franc profile. The nose is of green tobacco leaf, fresh black currant, charcoal, gravel, ripe black raspberry, shrubby herbs, burlap, cigar ash, and leather. Awesome nose. The palate is elegant and pure silk entering on the gorgeous black currants turning to medium minus tannin and medium acid with lovely purity and caressing texture. The finish is long recalling much of the nose. Just amazing and a fabulous first Clos Rougeard experience.

Lacks the usual depth despite the red peppers and “noble” vegetal aromas, bottle mot as good as the last one i had of this 2012.

Cabernet Franc turned up to 11! I hadn't previously tried this famous producer, and wondered whether the reputation was deserved... well, it does seem to be. Very concentrated; one might describe the wine as full-bodied, but that would be to underplay its weightless quality. Incredibly perfumed, and deliciously so, like an earthy, fruity, extra-savoury Bloody Mary; I have had Bordeaux that smells similarly, but not at this relatively young age, and rarely with such perfect, compelling balance of aromas. Slightly less exciting on the palate, though again with excellent balance, making it extremely food-friendly. Out of my usual price range, alas, but Rougeard is definitely 'on the list' now.

Much more expressive than my last bottle a couple of months ago. Splendid nose, and a more elegant mouthfeel. Slightly herbaceous, a bit of green pepper, but a very pure and elegant fruit that gives this Cabernet Franc a sensual and seductive texture. Medium-bodiel, nice length and very balanced. Both muscular and intellectual. Positively charming. Very much looking forward to trying a 2012 Poyeux, and even more a 2012 Bourg in a couple of years.

Quel beau vin!
What a nice bottle, classy and elegant vegetal and green pepper notes that only Rougeard can do as a signature. Everything is there, class, texture, contained power, fruit, length, balance, gorgeous.

Initially a hint of green pepper, vegetal herbal note that's typical of the variety. With air, the wine expresses this potpourri of red berries fruit and earth. Medium weight, balanced well with good acidity and structure. Finish that persists. what a lovely bottle.

Super accord!
Layered nose of capsicum, red fruits, baking spices. Good acid spine, medium bodied, fine burr of tannins, red fruit power without weight on the midpalate, good length, balanced and very refreshing.

Paris, Toujours Paris; 5/29/2019-6/1/2019 (Paris - France): Coravin acted again. Little cloudy. That well-known aroma of horse sweat. Also coal mineral. This time I founded shortie for what it used to be, vintage? Strawberries and that kind of terroir but lacks its proverbial intensity. Coravin didn't work properly , may I insist?
Coravin no funcionó correctamente, ¿puedo insistir?

Embryonic, but shows decent potential for tough vintage. It's got pretty red fruits, touch of pepper, but relatively light weight and hollow in middle, but there's a nice finish. Would wait another year or two to see if it adds complexity.

First bottle was heavily reduced and hard to drink. Second bottle more representative but also reticent, needs a lot more time. Very dry, nail polish finish.
Modestly herbal, slight minty nose; lovely earthy medium cherry, bit dark raspberry, elegant medium depth, some bell pepper notes, beautiful structure, fine, chewy tannins. Has a bit more depth and intensity, less green than the 2011.

Gorgeous. Dusty clay aromas. Anise and some soy. Expansive ever changing palate of anise exotic spice pine and black cherry. The palate just covers it all. Amazing for such a lean wine to have such a huge finish. This is shockingly amazing. Astounding to think this is the cheap wine.
Followed over 3 hours or so. Green notes initially dominated the nose, but over time everything came together to reveal a beautiful wine. A very pretty wine that is in perfect balance. I agree with another taster that said this has Cab Franc aromas but with a Burgundy-like palate and weightlessness. I liked this more than I expected/wanted to... Wish I had more. Drinking well now but will no doubt age well.
What’s better than one magnum of Rougeard - why two magnums of Rougeard of course!
Consistent notes to my earlier note. Fantastic wine that is akin to being in a tranquil Japanese garden amongst a sea of Parker and Suckling inspired boorishness. Impeccable balance - extremely elegant and 12.5% alcohol.
After the richer 2009 and 2010 vintages and the greener and leaner 2011 - 2012 is a perfect vintage for early drinking across the board for Rougeard. Hope the new owners respect and maintain the high standards established by the Foucault brothers.
Could drink this wine every day and not tire of it - so glad I got to try the magnums!

Medium purple/ruby color. Very pretty aromatics of sweet and sour blackberries, black cherries, graphite, iodine, crushed flowers, lead pencil, a touch of green bell pepper (but not unripe, more the Cab Franc aromatics). It is medium bodied, has medium-high perfectly balanced acidity and medium+ super silky tannin. Very good length. Not exactly on the level of complexity of the Bourg or the Poyeux but a super fascinating wine. It combines an almost Burgundian weightlessness with Cabernet Franc aromatics.

Drank right after the 2012 Le Bourg and must say that even as the 'third wine' in the line-up this is just wonderful. They were similar in style - more of an old world with the fruit less apparent and a bit more earthy notes. Opened and decanted and poured this just about right away. It was just a hint more accessible than the other although also a wine that could easily last for many years and really wasn't ready to be drunk yet. Great structure. Great balance. Paired nicely with some duck and steak.

Fantastic wine with classic cab franc flavor and approachable grainy tannins
Leaner than the 2012 bourg and considerably more rustic than the 2012 Poyeux
Can drink now or hold
Needs a short decant if drinking now
Enjoy!

All the classic notes of green and white pepper, tomato vine and spice, but I couldn't get past the barnyard/brett with this bottle.
