Lots of potential here, nose of red and black cherries, balsamic, fig, cigarbox, cranberries, tobacco. Palate has plenty of acidity and red fruit with a long peppery finish. It’s already approachable but needs 10-15 years to go to the next level, potential for a 96+ in time

More on the red-fruited spectrum with bright acidity, this Pomerol was elegant and light on its feet; restrained oak and restrained extraction made this decidedly classic in feel. We finished the whole bottle easily, and I was left wanting just one more glass. In a lovely place to drink now, but surely more complexity awaits.

Beautiful earthy and rustic bouquet. On the palate a slightly sweet start with ripe dark berries. Beautiful acidity and tannin. A luxurious and juicy beauty in its infant stage.

This wine comes just short of “outstanding” and thus falling into the “excellent“ category. Initially it is quite closed and in need of serious aeration. Then it gradually opens up into a very nice combination of smoke, black cherries, spice, earth, hints of flowers and milk chocolate. On the palate it is super smooth and elegant, yet quite obviously far from its peak. It is subdued, elegant and just hints at its potential concentration and depth (12 degrees Centigrade or so). As the wine warms up, it turns slightly heavier and the oak presence becomes more evident, yet it doesn’t give up more in terms of flavors and complexity. The wine clearly needs a few more years to develop further when it can eventually reach the outstanding category.

Wow. Wow. Wow. All I can say that this was an unexpected treasure. I have had the '16 Clerc Milon, Cantenac, Pontet-Canet, SHL, and this is truly is better than all of those. The soft, approachable tannins are so supple. The blue fruit is so tasty. The minerality and complexity with a long finish round off the wine. This wine is outstanding, especially for the money relative to the other wines that I had mentioned. This wine is completely approachable now and totally drinkable. Probably even better in 5 years, but it does not need 20-30 years like many left bank chateau. This is outstanding. 96 points.

Dark ruby colour, with plenty of black fruits upfront including cassis, blackberries and blueberry. There’s also layers of depth and complexity, with notes damp soil, liquorice and cigars. Medium bodied, and with a line of acidity which keeps it energetic and pleasant enough to drink now, but the tannins will take a bit more time in the cellar to properly resolve. A very nice Pomerol that should get better with a couple more years of cellaring.

Deep ruby red colour. Medium nose with red plum, red cherry, cedar and violet. Medium taste of red plum, red cherry, blackberry, cedar, cigar box, violet and black tea. Long and dry finish. High acidity. High, but velvety tannins. Medium body. A very good Pomerol that needs a lot of air to drink well now, or wait ten years until it has opened again. Goes well with beef or lamb.

87% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. 14% alcohol.
Really classic and seductive aromas with lovely forward-looking fruit of blackberries, fresh blueberries, red berries, salt, licorice and freshly laid asphalt. Good full bodied wine that is lightly rich in style with lots of lovely darker berries, salts, timber and leather. Lovely finish with striking tannins. The look may be a little old-fashioned and a little energized for some, others will love the classic style. I still belong to the last category. Very nice wine. 94 points.

Luscious, silky and fresh, the wine has the structure to age, which is a good thing, because all the layers of ripe, juicy, pure, opulent, fresh, red and black fruits, licorice, earth and cocoa are only going to get better and better with cellaring. Give this a decade in the bottle and the wine will deliver the goods.

Notes of sweet plum, oak, dark chocolate, truffle and leather. It's pretty full-bodied, with medium-high tannin that is very good quality and medium-high acidity providing freshness. Good length. A very good Gazin but doesn't have the complexity and sheer class of the very best wines today.

Gazin is on fire these days, and the 2016 is only adding to the flame. The beautiful sense of purity in the silky, luscious, sensuous red fruits stands out fro start to finish here. Full bodied and concentrated, the tannins are soft, ripe and refined, which is perfect to match with the lift and length.. A decade will really make this pop.

UGC SF - Deep red fruit, has the slightly brighter Merlot notes, perhaps due to somewhat less (50%) new oak? Still, has weight and depth, not the more feminine lightness this wine can have. Very nice.

Union des Grands Crus de Bordeaux 2016 Vintage Tasting (Las Vegas, NV): Although this deep ruby wine (a blend of 87% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet Franc) is a structured Bordeaux, there is a degree of elegance to it that many would refer to as "feminine." Up-front floral notes are buttressed with dried cranberries, coriander, black tea and pipe tobacco. Medium-bodied and fresh, this shows beautiful integration of the alcohol, oak and tannin components, making it a joy to drink. The middle palate is nicely dense, leading to a smooth, lengthy finish. This is a superb wine that could easily merit a higher score in the future. Drink 2024-2041.
UNION DES GRANDS CRUS DE BORDEAUX 2016 VINTAGE SAN FRANCISCO. (Metreon, San Francisco, Ca.): UNION DES GRANDS CRUS DE BORDEAUX 2016 VINTAGE SAN FRANCISCO. Nose of red cherry, black cherry, plum, cedar, and tobacco, same on the palate, big body, mouth filling fruit, rich fruit, not lovely fruit but big, bold and brooding fruit, needs 7 years to drinking peak, big upside here as with all vintages of Chateau Gazin, TN shows a one word summary-SUPERB.

UGC San Francisco: the 2016 Bordeaux: Impressive, excellent stuffing and length, but not heavy at all. Plenty of structure, this will probably need time. Not an old school Pomerol, but not an uber modern one either. One of my favorites.

Bordeaux 2016: A first glimpse of the 2016 vintage at a UCG/merchant tasting. The aromatic depth and the soft and accessible structure are amazing and clearly ahead of the 2015s which were more on the fruitier, riper side but often less deep and especially on the left bank more austere (despite the hot vintage). 2015 seems a right bank year, while 2016 might turn out to be THE left bank year. I’ve tasted some 15 wines only (not all reviewed) with the Pichon Comtesse (98, best young left bank I’ve had to date) clearly at the top, followed by the Figeac (97, so much depth) and Carmes Haut Brion (96, probably the number one underrated and upcoming winery in Bordeaux). Positive surprises were the Léoville Barton (96, pure precision and coolness) and the Pape Clement (so seductive) with great quality/price ratios. Even I’ve bought a ton of 2016s en Primeur I would buy more after this tasting if it wasn’t for 2018 lining up to be another exceptional vintage.
TN: In the past few years I experienced Gazin often rather as overripe which I don’t like at all in Bordeauxs. Not this vintage, Candied strawberries at the forefront. Round structure. Quite pleasant but not fully open for business (already in a shut-down phase or not yet fully open primary drinking window?).

Rich red and black fruit on the nose. The palate shows much tannin (so goes the vintage) but opulence with sap. Sure, a bit of austerity, on the finish, but not drying. Lovely wine in the making. Bravo! 92-94+

Flowers, plum liqueur and cherry blossoms reach your nose with little effort. There are sweet, ripe, sensuous fruits with hints of black licorice, silky yet dusty and powerful tannins and a long, sleek finish. The wine is made from a blend of 87% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet Franc. The wine 14.25% alcohol with a pH of 3.69 and is aging in 45% new, French oak barrels. The Merlot was harvested September 22 to October 10 and the Cabernets were picked October 17. This was the longest harvest period and the latest vintage in the history of Gazin.
