Small dinner with large pours (Ariana II): On pouring - taut but not austere, some waxiness, lovely depth. Seemed to clearly outclass the 21 Riverby served alongside it. Weirdly, though, the nose became quite advanced, quite quickly - like realtime oxidisation...it didn't go over the hill but it was noticeable. When the food arrived it regained its composure somewhat, and it never quite descended into the threatened poxy state. With that said, if I had them, i'd be drinking them up.

BWC Pot Pourri at Ariana II (Ariana 2, Kilburn, London): Some straw and pineapple cube boiled sweets on the nose. Some under ripe Galia melon too. Palate very well balanced with some subtle grassiness and a mineral backbone. Evolves quite rapidly in the glass. Improves with the food.

Medium golden. Waxy nose, some vanilla wood, rather buttery and grassy. Yellow fruit dominates but there is some citrus pith on the mid-palate if you give it a good swirl around your mouth. Really rather pleasant all in all, if a bit understated. First of case of 6.

Needs decanting and some time in the carafe to open up. Fresh and bright, yellow fruits with some wooden notes, very nice wine to the meal with turbot.

Au nez: pêche, bois, herbacé. La bouche est ronde suivi d’une belle acidité. Petite touche de beurre apportée par un boisé présent , mais pas intrusif. Un très beau bordeaux blanc prêt à boire. 92

Bordeaux Wimps (La Trompette, Chiswick): Pale lemon. Nose shows grapefruit, spice, vanilla. Medium bodied, grapefruit again, some weight, creamy vanilla, fresh acids, grassy notes on good length finish.

A bone dry savoury WB... On nose: faint salted butter, roasted almonds and nettles. On palate: all above flavour notes, in addition to bracing acidity, sea salt herbal notes of rosemary , present oak, dry faded, white florals as well as limes, all on a moderately full bodied wine with rounded, creamy notes, with a ghost of melon rind.....slightly austere, but the perfect wine for all seafood, from oysters to shellfish to Salmon and Sea Bass...can age well....this bottle was shy of fruit, compared to some notes on this thread....bottle variation?

Last bottle of the night, so notes are not great. Fresh peaches and mint on the noise. Medium body but a thick mouthfeel, with peaches and mint on the palate. Perhaps a bit bitter.

Pale lemon in the glass. Bright aromas of yellow apple, lemon juice, apricot, melon and some brioche coming from the lees. Medium-bodied with a pretty solid acidic backbone and an alcohol that sits just right on it. Long, mineral finish. Will give more in a few years definitely.

A: Medium lemon (but why given that the wine seems so primary, id expect it to be paler) N: Pronounced nose of guava, papaya, kiwi, cat pee, gooseberry, curry leaves, jolly rancher lime, melon rind. And in the empty glass, I can smell vanilla. Tart unripe mixed with ripe fruit. P: Dry, high acidity, medium (+) body , medium (+) intensity, medium alcohol, medium (+) finish C: balanced ripe fruit and under ripe notes and acidity., could age, decent length and intensity. Very good quality wine.
Guess: Old world Moderate climate Bordeaux Blanc
I thought this was Napa SB at first but that vanilla at the end of the empty glass threw me into Bordeaux Blanc with a high concentration of SB. No green hues or reduction in glass so NZ was knocked out early and body quite round so knocked out Loire and indicated that Semillon was involved.

Tasted blind. Med yellow. Med (+) to pronounced nose of lime, kiwi, passion fruit, cat pee, gooseberry, wet stone. In hindsight, melon, cantaloupe and almost imperceptible vanilla from oak are key markers. Dry, high acidity, med (+) alcohol (13.5%), med (+) body, intensity and length. Balanced, cool to moderate climate SB; difficult to discern if Old World or New World. Drinking well now, with potential for improvement. 50% SB 50% Sémillon. Aged 15 mos. on lees, of which 11 mos in French oak.
Provenance could include Napa, Bordeaux Blanc or Collio. Too ripe and round in the mid palate to be NZ or Loire. Too elegant and lightly oaked to be Napa. You know what I guessed, alas I was wrong.

Beautiful straw/corn lace color. Lots of citrus on the nose with grapefruit , lemon and a bit of tangerine. Also a hint of rosemary to add some pizzaz! Semillon is noticeable on the palate with creamy and almost buttery finish that is actually surprisingly long. Overall great value!

Fresh and seductive aromas with its tight stone fruit, cool butter tone and light wood that rebuilds the wine. Good full-bodied wine with nice cool stone fruit, slightly fat fruit core, butter and light wood. Freshness and the slight fatness that goes hand in hand at the end. Very good wine. 91 points.

A rather classy white. It’s the white floral notes that really stand out for me. The oak is well judged and provides depth and balance. This will be better in a couple of years, but opens up nicely now.

Bordeaux 2017 En Primeur - In Bottle Tasting (Montreal): Very light with grapefruit, lemon zest, honeydew melon, the palate was refreshing and bright with little concentration of richness as seen in other 2017s, nice but not at that price

With a nice kick of honeysuckle, pomelo, lemon peel, tangerine and mango, you find a wine with fresh, ripe, juicy, vibrant citrus that is equally fresh and refreshing. The wine is a blend of 50% Semillon and 50% Sauvignon Blanc.

Unusually high proportion of Semillon in the blend this year. Still a very nice Sauvignon Blanc character on the nose - gooseberry, grass, herbs, lime fruit with hints of cream and riper fruit notes. On the palate the Semillon takes over - rich, round, with good weight and concentration, but also fresh and vibrant. Nice length. Very good. 91-92+
