The 2002 Bachelet Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru Corbeaux is incredibly young and intense, lots of substance to unfold for a Premier Cru. Sleek and ripe dark berries and cassis with polished new oak spices and toast. Seriously rich and smooth with Grand Cru weight. Drink now to 2040. (90/100)

The 2002 Denis Bachelet Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru Les Corbeaux is impressively young and powerful, if tasted blind I would have guessed Grand Cru Gevrey Chambertin from 2005. True to its terroir - tightly laced black fruits sexy oak spices with inner sweet dark cherry and earthy Gevrey minerals. Discrete and sophisticated. Full bodied with Grand Cru thickness, I sometimes find Corbeaux more muscular than Mazis Chambertin, the Grand Cru vineyard next to it. Ample vanilla liquorice new oak yet well-integrated, still primary and only showing hints of black tea on the last pour. Incredibly tight and dense like a 2005, suave. (91/100)

First of a 6 pack purchased in 2006. Opened and decanted, then immediately poured two glasses which we swirled and sniffed while cooking for about 30 minutes. Started out with a bit of VA and a pronounced Ludens cough group impression on the nose. The VA gradually disappeared and gave way to first rich earth smells (decaying underbrush rather than mushrooms) and then chocolate and licorice with a little cinnamon peeking in. In the mouth it was round and softly nubby, a bit dusty with a gentle finish. There was bit of bitterness in the back of the throat for the first hour or so, which didn't particularly bother me - actually I didn't notice it until Jonathan pointed it out - but which faded away. Youthful without being young, and none of the hardness that Bachelet wines can evidence before they start into maturity. Really pretty Gevry. Agree with Kevin's note that it's not pure or transparent, and that's totally okay by me. Will probably give the next bottle another year.

Decanted and drunk over 2 hours. Pretty reticent on the nose, it responds better to being left alone in the glass for 5 mins rather than swirling. Medium light body. There's plenty in this wine that's quality but it didn't want to show itself tonight, it's mainly darker fruit here, by the end of the bottle it started to give a glimpse of a very elegant gevrey, I'd keep these for another few years if I had some in the cellar

Medium colour. A very fragrant, perfumed nose; raspberry and black cherry fruit on the palate. Fairly intense, but still holding back a little towards the end. However, it opened up with time and the finish became quite full and long.

Bachelet's 2002 Corbeaux is a tremendous bottle of Burgundy, bursting from the glass with complex aromas of dark wild berries, red plums, soy and loamy soil tones. Succulent and juicy on the palate, with great breadth but still structured at the core, while young this is a supremely drinkable vintage for Bachelet, and its bright fruit tones are easy to relish right now. Terrific stuff.

I enjoyed this and it needed some air to unwrap, which after a couple hours it showed better and better. Dried cherry, juicy, medium weight, with good grip, youth, herb and great acidity. This is what I would expect and enjoy from Burg. Terrific.

Quite a deep colour, with some brown; rich, ripe, open nose; the palate has well-developed pinot fruit, with mushroom and vegetal elements; it is quite full and has good length, and seems to have overcome the initial acidity of the vintage. It is now fully ready and is a fine example of mature burgundy.

Medium weight, fresh, very elegant, with cherry/raspberry/redcurrant fruit and good structure. Reasonable length. This should keep well. At present, it lacks a little richness for a truly fine wine, but is certainly very good.

The wine took a very long time to start to open, and by that time the bottle disappeared from the table :) I would have took this one home to test it the next night...At the very end of the night, it was starting to show the elegance and complexity that I expect from a Bachelet 1er with this kind of vine age and care. If you open, DECANT. Otherwise, HOLD.

Really fantastic. Lots of verve and class. A young wine to be sure, but I found it to have plenty of sap and not too aggressive. Should be long lived. Don't open another for 5+ years.

Rose in color with a violet tinge, this turns out to be a beast of a wine. Classically structured like a Barolo, it never shows much besides menacing red and black fruit and rugged tannin. This is a muscular wine revealing no Pinot charm right now and should not be uncorked anytime soon, even for educational purposes.

Sweet dark fruit and earth, darker than expected, with black cherry and chocolate on the palate. Best through 2025.

A lost Friday afternoon gathering – Selosse, Cotat, Vatan, Ente, Red Burgs including 2011 Rousseau CSJ blind! (Blacksalt, Washington DC): Not so expressive nose displaying sweet ripe black fruit, blackberry, black cherry, licorice, dark spices and strong earth. Very good concentration, deeply toned black fruit driven palate impression, chewy, warm and earthy, medium acidity and a medium to long licorice and earth driven finish. It is a ripe earthy wine that needs time, not a wine if you are looking for purity and transparency.

(Mag)- Very elegant nose of red fruit and smoke. Reserved Bachelet style on the palate with a mix of red fruits, herbs and spice. Very nice.
