Candied cherry and meaty bouquet. Medium-red color with brick overtones. Viscous texture, for Pinot anyway, and sour cherry entry. Mature, displaying good fruit and some acid in the medium finish. Drink up.

Much more restrained than most from this winery, it was balanced, but not enveloping. A nice food wine with sufficient acidity and little candy fruit. Nice actually, but I still think that at around $ 45 probably not worth the price.....

I like this much better than their Central Coast juice bombs. This shows much more restraint, with more subtle notes of spice, dark fruits, cola and acids playing across everything. Nice mouth feel and balance, decent finish. Over all a medium weight effort at least with whats left.
I agree with the previous reviewer who noted that this is not a keeper. I am working through my Central, Sonoma Coast and RRV designations before opening many of the single vineyard bottlings.

Moderately dark red color. Pretty floral and raspberry nose. Maybe a little cola. Palate bright, somewhat light and refreshing. But with pretty good length. PnP: Good medium bodied pinot with slightly higher toned red fruit. Day 2 developed more mushroom, truffle, leather, and earthy character. Still a good deal of acidity and tannin present. Delicious. Will improve at least a few more years. About as "daily drinker" as you get from this producer.

Decanted 1 hr, consumed over the following 2 hours. Bright garnet core gives way to a perfumed nose of potpourri, baking spice, red floral and mixed red berries. It's missing any candied or cola aspect, which I appreciated, but at the same time, it was quite simple in nature, missing depth and any real distinguishing character. By the two hour mark this was tired, which for an '05 was not expected. My last bottle, and I've not regretted falling off the list for even a minute. 13,9% abv, approx $40, drink thru 2012.

Opened and decanted. This one needs air and plenty of it. After about 3 hours, the finish lengthened out all the way and the wine was showing great. The next day it even had more depth to show. A 90 now with room to grow. I'll wait 2-3 before popping another.

Opened for 1.5 hours from a cold cellar. Color: Deep garnet, with just the slightest fading to pink at the edges. Nose opens with a blast of tart cherry, strawberry, hint of cola. After another hour, notes of vanilla, mushroom and forest floor made an appearance. Palate: medium obdy. Opened very tart, with a wash of brine on the finish. Still fairly bright acidity. Lots of red fruit. Very california style. reached a limit after two or three glasses. became candied. Very strong effort in the style, though not quite insipired.

Consumed one glass with friends. Very typical W-S notes of cherry, cola, bright fruit and good balance. The appellation wines are always on the lighter side, but overall good effort not great. Perhaps I need to open another bottle to get a better impression.

It takes a while for this wine to open up, yet with some air it does seem to be in a very nice drinking window for those who like bright fruit in their Pinot Noir, with classic Sonoma styling. After a few hours, the nose opens up to a hefty dose of cola and violets, with red cherry dominating. Some purfume and heat as well, but in check. The mouthfeel is strong on acidic bite, from start to finish, and the low ABV is welcome, as I would anticipate that if it was over 14%, it would be overpowering. More cherry and cola on the palate, additional berry notes, nice minerality with a touch of bitterness, and perhaps a hint of mocha flavoring in that cola. The finish is rather acidic, as mentioned earlier, and has a bit of steminess or greenness to it, with sour cherry coming through in the middle point of the finish. It fades off quite gracefully. I'm sure this would have lasted 5-10 more years.

Well made, but uninspired. Beautiful ruby color and nice mouth feel. Plenty of ripe red fruit initially, but ended a bit muddled, with some earthiness and just a touch of oak. Not quite enough acid for the roast chicken, but a bit too much for a great cocktail wine. Drink my other bottle now.
4/9/11 Perhaps my last bottle was a bit corked. Didn't note the earthiness this time, and wrote that it has a clean acidity that went well with our teriyaki. Still good mouth feel and lovely black cherry fruit. Upped my score from last time.

Initially we had high expectations, with the wine showing a big nose of clove and cinnamon, followed by bright cherry flavors. We were hoping for lots of complexity. Within an hour the nose had faded to cherry cola, and the finish was longish but ended bitter. After the second hour, aromas of cumin emerged and the bitterness in the finish subsided.

Was looking to open and enjoy something on the lighter scale for this warm evening to go with some grilled 2" thick bone in pork chops, corn on the cobb and some garden grown sliced tomatoes touched with some sea salt, EVOO and 8 year old balsamic.
Popped and let stand for about 90 minutes before pouring the first glass to drink while manning the grill. The wine has a wonderful nose like many of the nicer W-S offerings. A dark pink/brick color around the rim the overall color was medium to light somewhat like a raspberry jam that has been spread.
The mouthfeel was excellent as I feared it might be a tad young. I tend to like my Pinot with a little more chewiness and weight but this was delightful. No heat or tartness sometimes found in young Pinot my sense is that this is just hitting its drinking window and has plenty of time left before it hits it's stride. Overall an outstanding wineand likely to pick up a few more points with more time.

I LOVED my first bottle of this several months ago, rating it a 94. This bottle was akin to getting a flat draft of beer in a bar. It had very little acidity, a flabby middle and a very sour cherry finish. I had this in part to "celebrate" the new WS allocation and I think this little exercise is going to save me some money. Given how good the first and how bad the second bottles were, I wish i had a third so I could at least form some consensus.

Disappointing wine for the $, not really much better than the Estancia Pinot my mother-in-law serves at parties. Light in color with a similarly light mouthfeel. This wouldn't be a problem, but it doesn't follow through with much complexity or concentration On the palate, the wine was almost like watered down cran-rasberry juice with barely a hint on cinnamon on the finish.
Really the only WS wines I have bought recently have been the Allen and Westside Neighbors, both of which are completely different from this effort.

Very nice red cherry and raspberry fruit in this classic sonoma Pinot Noir. Very good deliniation with holiday spice, forest floor and crushed stones adding complexity. Great balance of finesse and concentration. With some "green-ness" in the form of evergreen that isn't a negative factor, in fact it adds some unique-ness. Drink now-2014. 88 pts.

My first W-S! Decanted 30 min. Nice bright PN with tasty acidity. Excellent match with grilled copper river salmon. Cherries and other red fruits on the palate, with nice earthy/mineral undertones. Started a little light, but took on weight on depth as we drank it over 90 minutes or so. Suggest a 60 minute decant. Not a tremendous value at $40 but I'm glad I have another one. Looking forward to trying more from this producer.

Decanted for one hour, then rebottled. Consumed over 2 more hours, and this wine really developed a fantastic personality while just aerating in the glass. About the end of nearly 3 hours out, this wine transformed into a beautiful, elegant, sweet fruit and cola Sonoma pinot. The finish was long and rich, with kirsch and more cola. The acidity really held the wine together well without overpowering it, and pairing it with grilled duck breast with cranberry-pinot sauce was absolutely divine. I have not yet been disappointed in W-S pinots - only disappointed myself in not ordering from this past mailer (darn mailer season!).

Wow did this get great with about 3 hours of opened bottle time. The bouquet started as a traditional rasberry/cherry Cali Pinot. But with time it became very sweet with a hint of cinammon and chocolate. What I loved most about this was the mid-palette which burst with flavor, ending with a nice cherry finish. Really loved it- I ran into Bob Cabral (the winemaker) at a Wine Spectator Tasting last year- he mentioned he is looking to create lighter, nuanced wines-- this isn't it. This is a "new world" fruit bomb with key descriptors like "yummy" and "lush".

A well-made wine that needs some time. Not overblown, it still has a heaviness to it even on the nose which shows intense black cherry and raspberry with a hint of cirtus. Extremely sappy and with substantial weight, it comes across as a bit young and clunky on the palate. At the same time, some nice acidity underlines the ample fruit and it has some nice architecture of sweet tannin. It needs some time to mellow and knit together, but this should be a nice wine in a couple of years, even if it never becomes earth shattering.

13.9% alc... Had a bottle of Brick House earlier tonight that was just as cloudy as this wine - must be unfiltered?
Wow, the nose jumps out of the glass, all Pinot, pine forest floor, high-toned bright red fruits, sweet, loads of cinnamon/baking spices, but with the impression of something "tart" on the nose, if that can happen...
Yum, refreshing bright acidity, almost to the point of puckering (is this natural or altered?), sweet fruit up front, going through a waxy, earthy change on the mid palate, finishing off with intense fruit that is stood at attention by all that acidity. I like the acidity, it is just shrill to begin with...fresh and ripe at the same time - nice profile of Pinot Noir...had alone, not with any food.

Open for about 1 hour. Ruby red with purple tinge. Nose is really interesting with spice, cardamom, earth and raspberry. On the palate, the spice and cardamom play nicely along with a little tree bark and the raspberry. Finishes really well. While I was sipping this, I was eating a few oil cured black olives which turned out to be a great match. The spiciness and sweet fruit of the wine complemented the saltiness and herbal notes of the olives, and the wine's acid cut right through the oiliness of the olives. Great pairing.

Really the only WS wines I have bought recently have been the Allen and Westside Neighbors, both of which are completely different from this effort.

The spiciness and sweet fruit of the wine complemented the saltiness and herbal notes of the olives, and the wine's acid cut right through the oiliness of the olives. Great pairing.
