Beautiful levity, bramble, blackberry, pepper, minerality, floral accents. Powerful but not at all heavy, and leaning into the Syrah direction with its pepperiness.

Nose of black cherry, black raspberry, wet leaves, and lots of spice. Rustic black raspberry palate with beef jerky, cherry, and a funky bitter note. Firm swath of tannins on the finish with black tea, tart cherry, slate, and forest floor and a bay leaf ending.

Very good now but will probably really hit its stride in 5 years or so.
Nose has anise, candied strawberry, florals, vanilla, baking spice, pepper. This all carries nicely to the palate. Lots of tannin and acid. Long spice finish.

Opened, poured and let sit about 40 min. Then: darkish fruit on the nose. Taste almost has a grenache tinge to it, although no grenache is listed in the blend. Definitely no typical zin taste, spice, etc, although zin is listed as the predominant grape. Medium/full bodied; darkish/reddish fruit; maybe a touch of warmth, but not a problem; tannins not a problem; decent balance. That grenache-like taste persists from entry to finish; not what I was expecting or looking for. Certainly drinkable, but disappointing.
I am holding off on rating this bottle. I was disappointed especially when compared to the 2017. Maybe it was just an off bottle? Anyhow, I have disliked Bedrocks Old Vine as well. Try again in a year and hoping for more Zin appeal.
Quick decant. Nose of sandalwood, potpourri, and dark cherries. Rustic melange of red fruit and earth shows an Early Burgundy character with lots of tannins, texture funk, and spices. Plenty of verve on the finish with exotic spices, smoked ham, chunky tannins, lots of purple fruit, and oak.

Pumped and chilled a few days ago, but is now more open and integrated. Still shy, faint raspberry aromas and indistinct yet savory flavors. Harmonious fruit and acid balance, and very fine tannins, but not fruity - it's all about the texture.

This bottle still had quite a bit of baby fat, and the alcohol showed a bit more than I remember when last tasted in Sonoma. It showed youthful candied fruit with some wild berry, still savory but a bit lactic owing to its youth. I will not touch my other bottle for a few years. To the back of the cellar it goes...

Cracked open a bottle to check how they are doing. Initial decant 30, first glass maybe 90 and then after 60 minutes it opened up a good bit and garnered the 92. V -Clear, deep ruby with medium meniscus, high viscosity. "Almost purple" N primarily fruit with oak of cocoa, vanilla and sweet tobacco. P fruit driven blueberry, cherry and blackberry. Not a fruit explosion but balanced with green tomato leaf and bramble. Med+ body, acidity and easy to drink.

Cold decant 2 hours, then warmed to ~65F. The nose shows a beautiful fresh cut red/black berry and cooking spices that point to the majority zinfandel. Violets and a little bit of dried red/black fruits further add dimensions to this wine.
On the palate, the carignan starts to add more layers of spices and a silky mouthfeel. The zinfandel delivers what it promised on the nose. The finish is dominated by the spices on the palate, and that made it all the better paired with steak.
This was drank with a duck fat dry aged steak, and the fruit, spices and acidity all elevated what the flavorful steak. Great wine with a price that makes you feel good about it.

Opened bottle about 30 minutes before pouring the first glasses, enjoyed over about the next 3 hours. Wine is dark ruby red coloring in the glass, while being transparent and light in appearance. A touch of alcohol on the nose as we eased into the first glass, but shortly gave way to plum, raspberry and other dark fruits. Flavors continue to the palate adding in more of the zin spice and rustic qualities. The palate improved as it became a bit more integrated. Dark ruby red. Just transparent. Looks light. Initially alcohol on the nose, that takes of after a couple of hours. Pomegranate, raspberry on the nose. A little awkward on the palate just after opening. Later more integrated with good acidity, gentle tannins and long taste. Young and lovely.

Decanted for an hour. Once you get some air into the glass, good aromas. Fruit forward, dark fruit and some spices - brambly like fruit of the forest pie. Some peppery sharpness. Not tannic, low acidity, but becomes dry. Deeper, dark fruit flavors, seemingly sweet even with the dryness.

This was a bit tight and closed last night. Muted red fruits, bright acidity dominates the palate. Could not shake it loose with an hour decant. Medium purple in color, tannins on the finish, bay leaf, herbs. I a bit of a suprise, given that a 2018 Pagani we drank a month ago totally rocked.

Oh wow, this kicks ass. I’m a little surprised because I figured this would be very tight still, but it’s starting to show some perfume of dried maple leaves, fresh oranges, plum and peach cobbler (hello zin!), fresh blackberry skins, and some other stuff I can’t quite pick out. Palate follows with excellent freshness for a wine at 14.5%; balance is exceptional, with acidity that will let this age for 20+ years and noticeable-but-fine tannic structure. Finish is medium+, echoing that leafy note that reminds me of good Cali cab franc. Going to try and hold my other bottles until 2025+ but...good luck, this is awesome right now. The first Bedrock “wow” wine I’ve had.

Continuing with the theme of wines that are showing a lot leaner and more reserved than expected this was quite a surprise. I wouldn't have been surprised if it had shown backwards but with a lot of fruit. It wasn't that it lacked fruit, it was the sharpness of it and all of the other complex notes of things like bay leaf, earth and mineral that I didn't expect. This could turn out to be a really fascinating wine in a few years. I bought a few as an experiment and because I'm generally interested in the preservation of these historic old vineyards but I may make a habit of grabbing a few every year.
A little shy still. Tannins and acidity are a bit angular, ruby red fruits notes on the nose and palate. Refined, but still young and not yet integrated. Best to hold. Tannins a bit austere at this stage. Future is bright, but for drinking now best to hold. Will update tomorrow on night 2 if perception changes. Acidic and angular on night 2. Red berry fruit is there, but narrow on the palate as the acidity gives this an austere feeling. Strong bones, best to hold.

Dark ruby with some translucence. Nose slightly lifted at first, some dark fruits. Palate velvety texture per J. Pleasantly open on the PnP, dark fruited but balanced with some acidity and a mineral note. Brambly. A chewiness to the density of the texture.

14.5% abv. Light plum, clear, magenta hue. Very structured, tannic Zin. To me this is very enjoyable/drinkable now but this needs 5 years to settle into a groove. Awesome Zin fruit, bramble, clove, blackberry, leaf, orange zest. Tremendous effort, imho.

Blackberries, plums and loads of peppery spice. Nice, juicy wine that needs a bit of time to come together. Seemed a bit jagged at the moment. UPDATE: The texture improved quite a bit on day 2, becoming more velvety, with the tannins more "fine grained". I look forward to seeing how this ages.

I can’t help but find something green and bitter in this wine. Perhaps it’s the whole cluster fermentation, but whatever it is detracts from what might be a lovely wine. There’s some nicely perfumed blackberry fruit under the green stemmy bitterness.
Nose of black cherry, black berry, boysenberry, jint of allspice, and dry earth, same on the palate, big body, mouth filling fruit, very tasty, rich fruit makes it easy to open and savor, long, long. Flavorful finish, photo uploaded. Photo and Rose picture uploaded.

This is a bit murky with notes of plum and blackberry accented by a subtle synthetic liquid smoke note. The palate is marked by a blend of overripe and underipe fruit which makes this seem somewhat hollow on the mid palate.
Given the prior positive reviews I thought my palate was off so I popped a 2018 Ridge Geyserville for reference. The comparison did not show well on the Bedrock.
Deep, dark reddish-purple in color, essentially opaque. Full, forward, & fragrant nose of intense, ripe fruit aromas of dark cherries, blackberries & plums with overtones of briary & earthy/dusty notes, spice notes of cloves, pepper & anise, herbs, dark cocoa, minerals & a slight hint of cedar in the background. Full bodied with a very good concentration of well balanced & smooth textured, plush, ripe fruit flavors of dark cherries, blackberries & plums with spices, herbs, minerals & dark cocoa. Lingering finish. Drinks quite well at present with decanting & extended airing but has the fruit & firm structure to continue development with further aging at which time, I expect it to possibly score even higher (94+). An indicative blend of predominantly Zinfandel (40%) with a field blend of Carignan, Petite Sirah, Alicante Bouschet, Grand Noir de la Calmette, Syrah, Tempranillo, Trousseau, Mission, Merlot & more.
Tasted this several times over a couple of weeks. No Coravin, just re-closing the bottle (don't think it was suctioned, but may have been once or twice). I was not in love with this on PnP and on the fence for most of the time. The final tasting of a glass and a half was the best for sure. Really lovely, it finally came together. Earlier in the bottle it just showed so much polish and seemed a bit disjointed and heavy. The final tasting was deep but elegant, somehow like a refined BBQ wine. I think this is one to lay down for at least a few years. Otherwise, decant!
Nose of black berry, black cherry, spring flowers, allspice, and dry earth, same on the palate, big body, very tasty, mouth filling fruit, juicy, rich fruit, very fruit forward with only a hint of soft tannins, and a long flavorful, finish, auction bottle with 2 more to go. label photo uploaded.

November 2019 Trip to Sonoma: On the nose, it's pretty closed, but I can still smell cherries, blueberries, and all sorts of bright fresh fruit.
On the palate, medium tannins, medium plus acid. Brambly zin fruit. Blueberries and cherries. A hint of oak spice. Overall, this is still very closed, but I can really taste the promise here. You could decant this for a few hours, but I would rather bury my bottles for a few years.

Tasted at Joseph Hooker house. Next to 2018 old hill ranch in zalto universals. A nice touch and great tasting if you are visiting Sonoma.
The wine pours medium garnet, mostly translucent. Closed at first, it really needs a good 30 minutes in the glass to open; longer if you’re decanting then bottle. Aromatically it eventually shows blackberry pie, blueberry, a little cinnamon and a long plum finish. Tannins are pretty wound up, I would imagine this wine needs a good 5 years to develop.

Nose: Blackberry pie, bramble, blueberry compote, allspice, and a healthy dose of violet flower. Layered and gorgeous, comes across as a perfume. Could bottle and sell this.
Mouth: Macerated blackberry and boysenberry glides smoothly across the palate ahead of a spicy white pepper, dried orange peel, and powdered baking spice. The extended finish fires into a background of fine grained tannins, elegantly supporting the fading fruit.
Overall: Built around a gorgeous core of Zinfandel, this acts like its going to be candied, and ends up being much more restrained and elegant than anticipated. The blend here is complex, with flashes of Syrah notes running up against Zinfandel and Alicante Bouschet, each part contributing something meaningful to the whole. Another home run for this vineyard. This doubtlessly has more of a story to tell over the next few years, but can certainly be enjoyed now. Zinfandel, Carignane, Mataro, Syrah, Alicante Bouschet (and many others).
95.

Ungrafted: Blinds with Peter and Robert (Ungrafted, SF): (Blind) Deep ruby. Pepper, tart blackberry, acetic acid. Dry, 13% alcohol (actually 14.5%), medium plus acid, medium plus tannins. Tart blackberry with pepper and herbs - rosemary and sage. This is textbook Northern Rhone.
Final call: 2016 Crozes-Hermitage, $40. Something lean and traditional like Alain Graillot. 2018 Sonoma valley Bedrock Heritage. Zinfandel. This feels way too tart to be a good example of Zinfandel. Also no new oak.

Bought from a large wine store in south Jersey

Needs some more time in the bottle, but clearly this wine is built to be drunk and enjoyed for a long time. Lots of plum and blackberry flavors with a smooth lingering finish.

Rich, complex, balanced, and nuanced. Dusty purple fruit. Refined tannins and medium plus acid. In a bit of a quiet period, so would reward some age or decanter time.

Beautiful nose. Blackberry, cherry, orange, bramble, some pepper and spice. Grippy tannins with moderate acidity and a long finish. Decanting definitely helped. Will be fun to watch this age.

Ruby violet with some transparency. Nose blackberry, some briar. Palate black fruit with some density, an appealing freshness.
Very good with grilled beef. With the right pairing, a very appealing red to drink now but also clearly has potential for further development

Dark ruby with some translucence. Nose slightly lifted at first, some dark fruits.
Palate velvety texture per J. Pleasantly open on the PnP, dark fruited but balanced with some acidity and a mineral note. Brambly. A chewiness to the density of the texture.
Enjoyable now but obviously great potential for the future

Big wine but the alcohol is not overpowering. Lots of fruit up front. The nose really enhanced over 2 hours but was great on a PnP

Medium purple.

Final call:
2016 Crozes-Hermitage, $40. Something lean and traditional like Alain Graillot.
2018 Sonoma valley Bedrock Heritage. Zinfandel.
This feels way too tart to be a good example of Zinfandel. Also no new oak.
