This pours medium to light ruby in the glass with light bricking. The nose is aromatic and enjoyable but not terribly deep or complex showing red cherry, cranberry, leather, a kiss of black olive and a faint whisp of dried orange peel. The palate is bright, light and acidic with a cranberry entry turning to medium tannin and high acid. The finish is medium minus in length showing quite tart. All in all this was in good condition but I would have liked to see more complexity here. Apparently made from declassified Chave barrels. The value prop here is a bit weak for the $155 I paid on a NY wine list.

Fruit has faded and I’d encourage you to drink up if you have any (with questionable provenance). Should’ve let this sit for an hour in the decanter because it was pretty spoiled upon opening and was cajoled into some solid, aged syrah later on. Perhaps it’s the producer but this is 5-10 years past it’s prime. Not built for the long term.

No longer the beast it was in its early years, the tannin is all resolved and it’s smooth as silk on the palate. Everything is in balance and theres’s a really nice interplay of savory/meaty aromas with the pure black fruit. Great with Peking duck

Gorgeous nose of red fruit, bacon, and gaminess. Well integrated tannins with nice acidity with flavors of red fruit, olives, brine, and violets on the palate. Perfectly balanced and interesting throughout the night with a long finish. Outstanding wine and very consistent (bottle #3 within the last year).

Nose gives huckleberry, thyme, slight hint of clove or some other baking spice; in the mouth possesses velvety texture, shows layers of dark fruit, ending on a note of molasses and blood. Initially considerable acidity peeks in and out, at moments eclipsing finish, but with air opens up and shows nice balance. Finish still a little short, but perhaps needs more time to unfurl?

Gorgeous, savory nose of black olives, dark fruit, bacon, thyme, and a hint of violets Great acidity, medium tannins and similar, mostly savory flavors on the palate. Long finish. Wow, what a beautiful wine! Drinking really well right now, but I don’t see this decline anytime soon.

The Chave origins of this wine couldn't be more clear -- finesse, smokiness, cinnamon, red fruits, elegance. Drinks well now but should continue to hold. Cellared since original release.

We found this to be a delicious drink. The nose started the meal as barnyard and dried berries and ended as dusty attic and pepper. Throughout the profile there was a consistent backbone of aggressive acidity supporting both slightly sweet red fruits and savory dark fruits topped by a spicy finish. It was quite unique.

NobleRottersSydney - Shiraz 10 years+ (Verde, East Sydney): {cork, 13%} (Graeme) Developing aromas of pepper and spice are gently alluring here; it’s not a new world bomb, clearly. This is very nicely proportioned; medium-bodied with crisp acid; smoky charcoal hints to the spicy fruit – it’s reasonably oaky but not overdone and hangs together very well. Very well-balanced; the whole palate is engaged, and the medium/long savoury finish avoids harshness and astringency. Ready to drink, but holding very nicely.

Not the best showing I've had from this wine (strangely, I've never had two bottles of this show the same way) - there's a core of fresh raspberries and olives tinged with smoky and meaty notes, but the fruit feels a little austere with the acidity really dominating. Air smooths it out some, but it doesn't show the elegance and finesse I usually expect from Texier.

Some Cornas and other Northern Rhones (Fuel, Wilmette IL): nose: nicely balanced with really good aromatics and tones of dark red fruits, black pepper, dark red cherries, some soy sauce tones and a good bit of smoke. Nice depth with real good tones
taste: medium/full bodied with very good and chewy tannins. Nice medium acidity as well with tones of dark red fruits, black pepper, dark red cherries, smoke and a nice bit of violets on the back end
overall: as with the other wines, this was certainly on the young side. This was easier to drink that the cornas' and the fruits is still well in place. This has a ways to go but is still quite enjoyable right now.

Northern Rhone Varietals (Fuel - Wilmette, IL): Nose had beautiful red fruit, lots of damp earth and dried floral notes. I think this struggled being next to such heavyweights as the 1999 Allemand Reynard, Verset, and Clape. Its palate was beautiful with beautiful red fruit integrated with dried florals and mushroom tones. Wasn't as complex as some of the other wines, but still showed incredible depth and balance.

Good wines and good times with a visiting Mark Lipton. (Il Corso): A typical showing for this wine tonight, which is always welcomed. In a perfect drinking spot. Pretty classic N Rhone aromas, smoke , some animal/ horse funk, dark berry fruit, with nearly resolved tannin and still quite fresh acidity. Went well with duck confit, halibut wrapped in prosciutto, and a NY steak with wine reduction. Fab bottle.

Opens very nicely, showing soaring aromatics of older Syrah: flowers and bacon, carrying over to a smooth, cohesive and seamless palate of blue fruits, violets, bacon and grilled meats. Tannins are completely smoothed out. Really quiet lovely, heady and captivating, this is why I cellar Syrah. The one criticism I have is that it could use a bit more thrust or drive. The rumor from years ago is that this is made from Chave fruit. I have no idea as to the truth of that rumor, but if true, I guess I might expect some more underlying strength. Notwithstanding, truly an enjoyable bottle of wine.

Initial stink on the nose in the decanter but gone in the glass...did not get a lot of smell in general. Ruby color and not overly dark. Pleasant wine with strong olive and tapenade and some tannin initially. With time softened and opened and a very pleasant wine to go with dinner. Not sure I got the strong smoke flavors...nice wine...not one that screams to pay attention but went well with coq au vin for dinner

Bright ruby. Nose of red fruit and minerals, some underlying earthiness. Medium-bodied. Red berries, wet granite predominate. Very fresh and precise on the palate. Tasted blind, I might have guessed a young Chambolle-Musigny. It was somewhere in the middle of the spectrum between power and elegance, without enough of either to hold my interest. It was a lovely companion to a seared duck breast with a cane sugar glaze. I have several more of these and I'll wait a few years to see if they gain some complexity.

Not nearly as smoky as many other tasters have garnered, but redolent of ten year old northern Rhone red wine. Like Employee500, I found this bottle to be lean, to the point of shrill. Reminded me of the worst qualities of Eric's Brezeme in the past, too much acid for the stuffing. The crowd murmured its approval nonetheless.

Had this once before and this bottle showed the same way, at least after it sat for awhile, like drinking liquid mesquite smoke. What I did not know when I had it before is that it's declassified Chave Hermitage, so of course that made it even better!

Quite nice. Initially on the nose, a lot of smoke and some earthiness as that blew off. On the palate, smoked almond, meatiness and olive oil. Linda noted initially the acid seemed high but that receded as the wine got air. Good flavors.Decent finish. I've got one bottle left and if I were to drink it now I wouldn't decant, I'd pull the cork and let it breathe for about 90 minutes. Drank at Bistro Laurent. A Louis/Dressner import.

Didn't show as well as the first bottle, likely due to double decanting 5 hours prior to the bottle being consumed. It was tough to read if this caved in on itself or was tight from the get go. Soy and saline are the dominant notes here, backed up by meat/honey ham, tree bark and pine needles. Less fruit than the prior bottle and more lean/tight. No decant next time, wasnt much sediment anyway.
