revisiting this wonderful wine and v pleased that it continues to perform well. noticing some different nuances this time around… bouquet showing a little more earthy, herbal, plummy, sanguine this time. palate is clearly mature but still lively and even with a big decant, tannic. red berries, menthol, and lovely saline note on the finish.

Friday Night Brown Bagger (EBCC): Blind. Light color with hints of raisin, bouillon and red fruit. Better on the palate, with red fruit, soft acidity and hints of raisin in the finish.
This had been double decanted off its sediment a couple of hours before the flight was poured.

out of the bottle, the colour is a mature, brick red. nose is a knockout, powerful yet elegant, with mineral, floral and white pepper notes. palate is surprisingly lively, lifted, a little tart, cranberry, good acidity, and still, with prominent tannic grip on the back end, even after an hour+ of air. muscular and showy.

2 hour decant. Not sure 2 hours was required. By end of 4th hour the wine was starting to fade. But prior to that it was a warm year Barolo with overripe black cherry fruit, some black currant but also plenty of forest floor. Still a meaty Barolo.

Popped, decanted, and consumed over 24 hours. 30 minutes in, wow, what a nose! Like sharp cheddar with fermenting forest berries. Dry, meaty palate with plenty of tannic tingle. A very long, leathery finish. 90 minutes in, where did all this strawberry come from? Vibrant! 20-24 hours in, too powerful to call it sublime but much more integrated and brooding than yesterday. This wine just keeps getting better and better!

I love this wine. Decanted an hour then consumed over 24. Dark, inky black. Very pungent nose of funky earth floor. Chocolate covered macerated strawberries on the palate. Long, lingering finish. Delightful.

Although the fruit has a twinge element of being slightly stewed from this super hot year, the overall quality of this wine overcomes that element. Overripe black cherry fruit, dried herbs, some tar and sweet Oak. A 30 second finish. It needed 30 minutes to come around.

Decanted for two hours then consumed over three. Dark plum jam over caramel toffee - but somehow not sweet. Over time rose petals came out. Lonnnnnng, gentle finish. Plenty of tannins but silky and caressing, not astringent. This could have been a 94 but there is just a hint of "lean" that brings it down to 93. Lots of life left.

It opened up within about 30 minutes. A very big wine with rich and racy black fruits, with red fruits, forest floor and sweet Oak in the background. Very smooth. No sediment. 20+ second finish. Feels like it's just entering its drinking window.

Opened and drank over 3 hours. A soaring Nebbiolo nose of roses, red cherries, earth, leather and tar lead way towards a plummy, oaky palate that is tasty albeit a tad one dimensional.

Two and a half hour decant, need a couple of hours more, the nose is delicate cherry, earth, light sandalwood and leather. The palate starts out with firm tannins and mild acidity, the tannins come in line with time in the glass, swirl this one a ton if you can't give it several hours of decant time. More earth, light fruit, leather and a touch of tar round out this medium bodied beauty with a medium length finish. This is ready to drink and could spend a another couple of years in the cellar as well.

Decanted about 3 hours. Tannic and bold. Very pleasing to the nose. Berry and earthy in the nose. A bit of leather to the taste. Deep, dark cherry within the beginning, middle and end of each sip. Could decant even longer and add more bold to the palate. Very nice wine.

Decanted about 5 hours. Very dark and reserved initially. Lots of tannins and notes of leather, wood, honeycomb and earth. Very thick and concentrated. It was definitely screaming for some food. After a while some fruit, plums-black berries, was apparent in the mouth. The last glass was the best and in most balance. Seems like a very well made wine with still some up-potential. It is just in an awkward place right now. Or maybe won't ever really settle in a wonderful balance.

Absolutely delicious! Drinking so well. Really wish we had a LOT more of this wine. Drink up! Nose of dark chocolate and leather. Mouth feel and coating is superb. Perfect balance of fruit and tannins. Just an incredible bottle of wine... after one of these, so many other bottles in our little room are just wannabes.

Dark black in color with a purplish hue around the edge instead of the characteristic brown - but that might have been the light. Nose of rich plum. Palate of rich tamarind and leather. There are two finishes, the second one lingering forever. Lots of chewy tannins but non-abrasive. Very bold; truly the king of the jungle!

At dinner so no note other than. Very soft texturally with bright cherry fruit and that rustica terroir characteristic you get from many Barolo's reflective of an older style. The wine made the wine and not the winemaker. Excellent for a vintage known for roasted fruit and many angular coarse Barolo's. Seems to have the structure and tannins to age several more years. Recommend.

La Spinetta tasting with Luca Cigliuti (Mandarin Oriental Singapore): The most approachable vintage in this vertical. I didn't feel this was as overextracted as some other users have experienced but at the same time, it felt a little more one dimesional than the other vintages. Oak was a bit more evident. Drinkable now but this should last for another decade.

Some heat on the nose - herbal, leather, dark spices. Resolving its age but showing some heat on the palate as well - dark fruit with dusty tannins. not really my style. Nose: 4.5/6, Palate - 4.5/6, Finish - 4.5/6, Je ne Sais Quoi - 0.5/2 = 14/20.

Dissapointing modern style fruit forward Barolo with extracted alcoholic overtones being counterbalanced with oak. This must be a casualty of a very ripe vintage. Have two more. Will circle back in 2 years, but not much hope here. Was a nice cocktail wine the second day.

Decanted, no sediment. Color was reddish orange. Paired with carbonara. Nose of tar, mineral, dried flowers and plum. Very fine grained but massive tannins. Flavors of plum, char and earth. This wine was best with the fat content of the food countering it's massiveness. The last glass after dinner by itself was just tooo over the top. I could see this lasting a good decade or more. Well worth the experience. Would purchase again.

Una Bomba! Beautiful color, Powerful Aromas of Strawberries, Roses, as well as Vanilla, Tabacco and Earth Notes (this is a wine you can just sit there any enjoy the aromas). Very complex and full bodied, the fruit is absolutely pure! . Very nice tannins. This young Barolo can be drinkable now with about 1-2 hours of decanting, but I would recommend a few more years in the cellar (2011-2020).
