Full, forward & fragrant nose of ripe fruit aromas of citrus, apples, stone fruits & tropical fruit notes of pineapple with overtones of floral notes of honeysuckle, mineral, stony, some grassy notes, herbal & a hint of vanilla/oak in the background. Medium light bodied with a very good concentration of well balanced & smooth textured, ripe fruit flavors of lemons/limes, melon & green apples with minerals, herbs & some vanilla. Lingering finish. Drinks quite well at present with extended airing & should develop further with additional aging.

Friday Double Blind Tasting $60+ (Bin 75 Alpharetta, GA): Steely yellow straw; sweet oak, acacia, melon, custardy, musk melon, lemon verbena, lemongrass, some sort of cleaner- almost artificial smell, guava, pithy, a little salt but fairly neutral, medium bodied; I found this to be ok today and I'm sure time will only benefit this; '18 Lynch Bages Blanc?

Nose is all white peach; palate is full and crisp with medium body, bright acidity and a decent (slightly short) finish; this wine feels more semillon than sauvignon blanc; it's definetly rounder and less angular than a 100% sauvignon blanc. It's drinking well, but I suspect it will improve considerably with a couple of years.

1st of 6. This is an outstanding and complex wine. I liked it best at cellar temp, but enjoyed it at other temps as well. At cellar temp, the nose is just unreal good - lychee, grapefruit, stone, lemon (to name just a few qualities); on the palate it is delicious, mirroring the nose, but with pineapple and even banana on the finish (sounds strange, but it's all good). The finish is very very long, with the sappiness of the wine coating the palate and lingering for ages. When it was cold out of the fridge, the nose was more closed and the palate less expressive. This is in such a youthful state that I can see this gaining points with age, but there is no reason not to drink this now if you have some in your cellar.

Fresh and fragrant bottle that will only get better for my palate with some age. Really brings acid, nose of lychee and tropical fruits, similar on the palate and later turns to more pineapple. Paired beautifully with a lightly battered dover sole in a sauce with capers. The pairing toned down some of the fruit in a good way. And excellent wine which I would love to try again in a decade.

Bordeaux 2022 en Primeur and some recent vintages: A very grand wine the 2019 (96pt), which is rare with a SauvBlanc at least for my palate. Great aromatic fireworks. Deep, with herbs, citrus and grassy notes. One of the best Sauvignon Blanc blends I've ever had and in a completely different league than the other whites today. Having had many oxidized Domaine de Chevalier white wines, I asked the estate whether this problem was finally addressed. I was proudly shown a Diam cork and explained that this was the result of a larger investigation. Inconsistent, unstable corks. Let's see. I would love for this great wine to stay in this shape for many more years. The 2022 (95pt) was also top, perhaps not quite as extravagant as the 2019 but in a similar league.

16x Right Bank Bordeaux 1998: Three white Bordeauxs from the 2019 vintage. All three showed well. The Domaine de Chevalier (94pts) convinced with strong, bright fruit core but was missing a bit of harmony with the high acidity not being balanced by enough textural softness. The Cos (92pts) had that balance but not the same level of depth and length. And the (consensus winner) Pape Clement (95pts) was the marriage of both with textural softness, elegance, paired with superb freshness and aromatic depth. As I’m always worried how white Bordeauxs will develop in the age of premox, there’s no time to waste to pop a cork on any of these three wines.
TN: Very intense and expressive from start to finish with everything circling around the very fresh, bright and pure gooseberry and citrus fruit with additional minty and herbal notes as well as some limestone notes in the background. Lots of fun to smell all day long but on the palate, the acidity is a bit too pronounced, the wine slightly too sour to drink a hell lot of it. A touch of creaminess is missing for the perfect balance. Nevertheless, this is a very good wine.
Decanting: Not decanted, no extensive decanting needed.

Bordeaux Right Bank 1998 tasting (Essenz (Brugg)): Bordeaux right bank 1998 tasting. All wines were served single blind and were decanted several hours. The sample showed i/ generally healthy and structured wines, still quite primary with further aging potential; ii/ the overall performance was below expectations considering the repute of the vintage for the right bank (although this may be due to the very long aeration), iii/ top wine for me were 1. Valandrau (95), 2. L’Evangile (95), 3. Angélus (94) while for the group the ranking was 1. Angélus (94.9), 2. Valandrau (94.4), 3. Cheval Blanc (94.0). Complete list including group scores included in the tasting story.
Tasting note: Prélude to the tasting. Gooseberry, fine oaky notes, a whisker of caramel. Fresh and herbaceous character. Palate had a slightly creamy texture, but also searing acidity and felt a bit of balance. Consistent score with a recent tasting.

Green apple, yellow citrus, honeysuckle, and a tropical orange note with a hint of white peach shine through in the nose and on the fresh, creamy, lively palate. The finish hangs with you with endnotes of lemon, lime, vanilla, rocks, and stones. This is already a treat to taste, but wait a few years and it is going to be even better as Domaine de Chevalier is one of the longest lived white wines from Bordeaux. Drink from 2023-2040.

Greener nose than the ‘16 (tasted side by side). With peach, cat’s pee and white peach/grapefruit. The mouth is rich and round, very well balanced and presents a great supporting acidity on the gums.
Amsterdam UGCB Tasting (Beurs van Berlage): Beautiful freshness, quite strongly marked Sauvignon Blanc character in this vintage, grass and tropical fruit, but there is some Sémillon richness too, steely acidity, noticeable oak. All components present, needs more time to integrate. Very different from the barrels sample tasted in June 2020.

Arvi Bordeaux 2019 Arrivage (Dolder Grand, Zurich): Tasting of 25 wines (2 whites, 3 sweet, no first growths) at a Bordeaux 2019 in the bottle event. My observations were: i/ the tannic structure was soft and well-integrated across the board, ii/ the fruit was generally fresh and light with no heavy-handed extractions, iii/ Top wines were Client (97), Léoville Barton (96) and Smith Haut Lafitte (96). More thoughts and list of wines included in the tasting story.
Tasting note: This had a smoky touch to it, fine citrus and lychee fruit, an almost sweet oaky layer. Nice and fresh on the palate, not as acidic as the SHL Blanc. Not as salty as the 2018 and not as intense as 2016 or 2017.

Bordeaux 2019 from barrel (From various locations, finally putting together these wine reviews): 2019 was another solar vintage following up on 2018, and again not as successful generally speaking as, say, 2017. But we are talking about an estate that excels in warmer vintages and here no exception. Already the Domaine de Chevalier Blanc was top of the pops last year among dry white Bordeaux. And 2019 follows in the same vein, bursting with aromas of white pepper, eglantine, acacia and sweet herbs. In a word: opulence. “In 2019 we had ripeness, but not as much a danger of over ripeness as in 2018,” Bernard explains. Indeed, the cooler August nights made the difference and although “we have a similar alcohol level as in 2018, the 2019 has a bit more acidity”, he said. “It was not an easy vintage as July was too hot, and September was hot, so it was not normal.” I will err on the side of exuberance and give this great white a wide score range, as it has potential to reach “96”, but let us see from bottle! 93-96 Tasted at the estate in June.

Fragrant nose with an array of citrus, coconut, and a tropical bonanza on the palate as well. Rich and round, with some minerality peaking through. Good texture, length and balance. Concentrated and structured. Not shy on the fruit. A lot going on here. This should be thrilling once in the bottle. Tasted in June from a sample bottled June 2nd. 96-98 points.

Fresh pomelo, newly-squeezed lemons, honeysuckle and an intriguing orange tropical note with mangos and white peach. On the mouth, the wine pops with its freshness, zest and energetic fruit. Lemon, lime, vanilla, rocks and stones. This future rockstar will age for decades, getting better and better. But this is tasty now, I drank it at 9 in the morning! The wine was made from blending 70% Sauvignon Blanc and 30% Semillon. 97 Pts
