  • Ruby colored to the eye, this wine has a bouquet of blackberry, saddle leather and clove. Tannins come on full-bore but are offset by vibrant acidity and bright flavors of pomegranate and red currant. Soft spice notes and a sense of earthiness linger on the taste buds.

  • Ruby in color, with delicate nose of black currants with a touch of oak. Nice acidity and integrated tannins, with expressive black currants and bramble, and some notes of cocoa. Very elegant, with a medium+ finish that shows white pepper and some oak.
A very pleasant wine in a good spot - although this was poured by the glass so I am not sure how much air it got beforehand.

  • This wine for under $30 is a definite QPR alert. 1st of 6 bottles purchased and while young definitely very drinkable. All the wonderful flavors of a Rioja. cherry tobacco leather earthy oak

  • A bucket of dark fruit in an oaken robe. Lovely now but with development to come.

  • Very enjoyable. Vanilla oak certainly dominates the nose. Plenty of fruit on the palate although nothing overly precise that I can lay out. Just enough acidity and tannin to give structure and balance. Finish comes back to the vanilla oak. Not the most complex but really enjoyable and easy to drink for me. Maybe better in a few years if the oak integrates but no need to wait if the mold strikes.

  • A very good rendition of Ardanza for sure. I felt this was pretty tightly wound from a p&p but an hour to breathe for the first glass. I get less dill and vanilla oak than most, it just must be my palate's dill sensor is low. Always has been. Quality and versatile Rioja with some good upside for sure, though I just tend to drink these sooner vs. the 904.

  • I purchased and receive this less than a week ago. Young and vibrant, with baking spice, a mix of vanilla and dill pickle in the wine. I am a fan of Ardanza, and I trust this will integrate with time, but it has not integrated yet, and that American oak is clearly imparting a dill pickle flavor to it. I would love for them to use French oak, but that ain’t the way in Spain. Despite that issue, it remains a fairly enjoyable wine, 90+ with room for upside. The wife seemed to enjoy it, also a positive.

  • Lovely nose of subtle red fruits, coconut and a little tangerine zest. Rich yet deft and nuanced. The palate is round and forgiving with approachable tannins and powerful acidity. Fabulously long finish. This is as accessible a youthful Ardanza as I've had and, bracing acidity aside, there's no reason not to drink this now.

  • This is absolutely delicious and checks several boxes while still being very Spanish in its vanilla and dill vibes. The nose is clearly vanilla creme, intermingled with sour stone fruit. There is an absolute balance here with ample fruit, sexy wood treatment coming across as vanilla and creme (American and Slovenian oak feel), and then comes the dill and with time some fresh tobacco notes and finally, the gentle caress of a soft intriguing wine that lasts 20+ seconds, begging you to try it again. I love this and to me this is so fun and beautiful to look at (lively vintage garnet) and even more fun to drink. For my taste, READY TO GO! Thank you for holding this to perfection before releasing it. More please! Drink

  • 90 for me - has some interesting leather-cherry-mint vibes and is clearly a quality wine, but beyond that I’m struggling to find much to get excited about.

  • garnet-ruby and medium plus body. Rioja-sweetness permeates the nose of plums, dark berry, cloves and cinnamon; subtle notes of tobacco, sandalwood and soil peek in. dry, with grippy tannins, and bright freshness, it's a bit reticent at the moment. with time, layers of red plum and berry with the accents of the nose integrated into the flavours do reveal themselves, hinting at the balsamic pleasure to be revealed. moderate length that fades into the tannic grip.

fresh but still tight Reserva that needs a couple more years to blossom. good upside potential here.

14.5% AbV; 80% Tempranillo/ 20% Garnacha blend; the Tempranillo is aged for thirty-six months while the Garnacha for thirty, all in American oak (20% new).

  • Tons of Oak followed by vanilla, cedar, and leather. On the finish there is cherry, tobacco leaf and black tea. It's good but a bit thin; it's a light weight body with medium tannin. This seemed like a feminine version of what Vina Ardanza Reserva used to be (in the 1990's).

  • 93-95. Again this could be near profound like the 2015. Has aromas of leather, mint, vanilla hints, sandstone, blackberries, raspberries and flowers. Its medium to full bodied very full and solid elongated blue, black and red fruits palate has vanilla hints and ends medium long, zingy and tapering. Can PnP but better with 6/7 hrs+ aeration. Can be drunk now but needs aeration and can be laid down 10-15 years+. 14.5%. Wonderful value at 28 Euros! Becomes more flowery and 2016 like on Day 3.

  • Drank in PA restaurant for $94, big wine 14.5% abv, lots of fruit, have had it before, tonight, it got tiring and boring, we had a big group and I had some from a few bottles, a crowd pleaser but I think I am over this wine so probably won't drink again but it was the best wine on a small list, drank with assorted dishes, beef, pasta, scallops with risotto.

  • A deep velvet purple in glass barely dissipating at the rim. On the nose, it gives notes of leather, earth, black currant, and dried red fruit. On the early pallet, it is very juicy with an elegant mid pallet that has complexity and richness galore. On the finish, it is well crafted with roundness and such a delightful mineral quality to pair with every stage on the pallet. Worth every penny.

  • Classic rioja. Dusty, nice depth, medium body, medium acidity, fine tannins, long finish, earthy. Very very good. Not quite at the 904 or Vina Arana...I prefer their more rustic, introspective, etheral vibes. Ardanza is a bit more lively and brighter. But a definite big step up above the Alberdi.

  • Just wanted to check how it is evolving. This wine has a promising future but let it rest in the cellar a few years more.

    A pleasure nontheless already now

  • Dark berries and some oak and cedar on the nose. On the tannic side, but not overly so. Fresh acidity that in the end mellows out in a lengthy aftertaste. I would think 3-5 more years would do wonders with this.

  • Love this
Rich deep fruit. Very rich, raisin and dried fruit. Cocoa and older flavors / nose like leather.

A wine that has secondary notes as if it was 5-10 years older, in an enjoyable manner

  • Bright red fruits pus some dried cherry and balsamic notes (sage?), purple flowers, a bit of barbecue spice, campfire, alongside a mushroom/truffle finish, a rather pretty nose but with a more aggressive palate, with intense acidity and some possibly off-putting metallic/iodine flavors, but with a really rewarding texture. Honestly pretty unremarkable on first pour, but decanting helps a lot. Still not sure why this got all the crazy accolades it did.

  • Beautiful nose of fresh flowers and ripe black cherries, blackberries, oak and spice. Medium-full bodied, this is remarkably supple, open-knit and fruit-filled for this wine. Absolutely delightful to drink now, this has copious quantities of red and black cherries, culinary herbs and spicy oak. Not sure this will live as long as most vintages. Drink now-2030+ 93

  • While I’m a huge fan I prefer Ardanza in lighter vintages, and/or with age.

This is a tad blunt. Tannic too. The American Oak is milky and doesn’t make the fruit sing. Perhaps all it needs is 10 years? Maybe, but the 14.5% alcohol makes me worry.

Nevertheless it’s a fine wine with distinctive character.

  • Rich and layered with cedar, graphite and thyme top notes on mulberry and black cherry fruit. A distinct charred red pepper note add to its complexity and charm. Opulent and mouth-coating with firm yet rounded tannins and a persistent finish. There is so much more room for development.

  • Excellent traditional Rioja Reserva, a blend of 80 percent Tempranillo (from the Rioja Alta region) and 20 percent Grenache (from the Rioja Baja region), respectively aged for 36 and 30 months in used oak barrels. Dark garnet-red in color with a little fading at the rim. Complex nose revealing intense scents of ripe raspberry and cherry fruit, licorice, tobacco and also nuances of cinnamon and nutmeg. On the palate: a very well-balanced medium to full-bodied wine offering layers of concentrated red and black fruit, serious depth, a harmonious acid structure and present but quite elegant tannins. Persistent aftertaste with some subtle balsamic undertones. This wine is already drinking beautifully now (after two hours decant) and will evolve and improve over the next five to seven years.

  • Faded purple color, medium-heavy, not completely opaque. Chocolate, stewed red fruit, blackberry, and some cheese on the nose. Zingy acidity, smooth tannins. Black fruit and some oaky tobacco notes. Nicely complex, brings the best out of the Tempranillo and garnacha blend

  • Garnet coloured with generous nose of figs, vanilla, caramel, and oak

Tannins are pretty polished with nice acidity. This is medium bodied with some tertiary notes. Primarily red fruits, with a touch of caramel, notes of leather and earth however a little short on the finish. 14.5 ABV but absolutely no heat and wears it well. This is a lovely, lovely wine that is intense, complex, and will continue to age.

  • TWS Rioja tasting (Chelsea Old Town Hall): Rich and relatively accessible even now. Prominent fruit character - sweet and rich raspberry and strawberry. Fennel salami and sour cherry notes emerge with air. The oak is present but not overwhelming thanks to the fruit concentration and a bit of restraint in the cellar. Lovely fruit and length on the palate - lots of tannin but with a good old decant you might even consider drinking this today.

  • Really good Rioja in the more classic acidic cherry style, with dill, spice, and licorice. The acidity makes the wine really long, but the aftertaste is dominated by the toasted oak and some heat at this point. I'd let these rest for 5 years or so for the oak to calm down because, at present, it's very dominant.

  • Really nice Ardanza. It's got that classic Rioja scent of of shiny leather mixed with the fruit, which has that developed trad Rioja feel but also a nice pop of sweet ripeness from the grenache, which I think is asserting itself more emphatically now than it did in the first Ardanza or two after they made the switch to the estate grenache. The tannic weave is super-silky.

  • Even at seven years past the vintage, it's still very tight. I found that it needed 7 hours in the decanter to really show its stuff. I usually open my wines at Noon for a quick taste to see if more air isneeded and this one was very tight. Either decant for eight (or more) hours, or keep until 2026 when it will age much better.

  • One of the more memorable bottles of wine I’ve had in months, just a beautiful bottle. Seemed to leap out of the glass with ripe red fruit, drinking over the course of the meal it transitioned to what you’d expect out of a Rioja, notes of leather, earthiness, etc. It will undoubtedly age beautifully, but I’m also loving how it evolves in the glass right now.

  • Ok, let's drink this classical classic.
    I had 2008 - 94 pts. and 2015 vintage - 96!
    Will 2016 be as good?
    🕐⏰🕤
An hour in decanter and it's enough. Smell explodes straight to my nose. Fantastic mix! Red cherry, plum, raspberry on the left hand and earth, tobacco and cedar on right hand. 😉 Very addictive blend! Taste? Juicy juice! Basically the same aromas are here as flavors.Plus milk chocolate and hint of coffee. Perfect match! Acidity and tannins? Fresh, vigorous, active and addictive. Finish?
I wish the finish would be more robust and last longer.
It has nice spice, but it fades pretty quickly
And this is the only reason I didn't give this gem 96 pts.
But I still don't know how La Rioja Alta can make such great wine for 27.60 €

Blend of 80% Tempranillo from 30 y.o. vines planted on predominately clay limestone soils, and 20% Garnacha planted on deep rocky soils at 500 m elevation in Rioja Oriental.
