  • A little thin and light for what I was expecting. At first, wood and dried plum. Then ripe cherry, almond, dirt. Strong cranberry juice at the finish. Overall just not very complex and the oak notes seem to be lost.

  • A business lunch (Restaurant Vineum, Rotterdam, NL): A blend of 60% Garnacha, 30% Tempranillo and 10% Viura, 48 months in neutral American oak and 48 months in bottle. Orange colour with tawny reflections; clear and fresh style, needs time in the glass to open up, balsamic, candied fruit and spices, dried orange, hints of cold tea and sweet oak on the finish.

  • Mini ESTG at Asadero Kent (Kent, WA): Salty, oxidative, amazing acidity. This is such a unique and special wine.

  • On the nose subtle strawberry. Medium bodied, dry, crisp, smooth and elegant, delivering dried strawberry and cranberry, a slightly oxidative/sherry aspect and a light creamy mouthfeel on the finish. Wow, a darn delicious rosé!

  • Strawberry red in color with hints of orange. Oxidative almost sherry like. Hints of oak and vanilla, dried strawberry and dried fruit. Excellent with paella, overall a good food wine.

  • Deep orange.

Pronounced aromas of dried orange, marmalade, shoe polish, apricot, tangerine peel, marzipan, dried herbs.

    Pronounced palate.

Medium body, high acidity, medium (-) tannin, long finish.

  • Dried strawberry, mushroom, and utterly beautiful wood spice introduce the 2011 on the nose. Great intensity. Great purity on the palette, like clear spring water. Strawberry and raspberry, flowers, and tingly spice excite the palette. The tingling acidity goes on for ages. A professional review mentioned watermelon and that is there on the mid palette.

  • Opened three hours in advance. Such a unique colour that’s difficult to decern as is often the case with these wines where it sits somewhere between deep cranberry and light rust. Oxidative in style with a burst of fino - it almost comes across as a dry Pedro Ximénez - where there’s the aromatic intensity minus the sweetness. If we turn our attention to fruit for a moment you’ll find both dried cranberry and strawberry and a touch of blood orange. Beyond the fruit you’ll discover wood spice, dried cinnamon sticks, and marzipan. There’s a deep, crushing intensity throughout where the wine is simultaneously both rich and austere. As I sit here writing these notes they increasingly seem redundant since it’s impossible to accurately represent or do justice the shree brilliance and majesty of these wines. Exceptional. Absolutely exceptional.

  • I really liked this, but you should ideally give this plenty of air or some more time in bottle (although I'm not sure the limited fruit will survive). Nuts, some dried red fruit, water melon, oak. Drink with food!

  • The LdH rosado is the best rose I’ve ever had and one of the best values in the wine world, IMO.

  • Definitely one of the prettiest wines in the glass, like glistening rust. This was even more oxidative than I remember - not that I mind, I love rancio - and other than that somewhat ineffable. There's a lovely savoury apple-skin chew to the wine, a surprising jump in brightness and concentration on the midpalate, and a creamy, leesy quality to the finish that demands another sip. The fruit eventually shows itself on the finish, with strawberry to match that cream.

  • Took to Zeru
A food wine medium to full body
Hint of oxidation on the nose, typical for this wine
Great pairing with pulpo a la gallega, pata negra croquettes and some other tapas

  • Beautiful sunset orange in the glass. Layered, expressive nose with a core of red cherry, dried cranberry, and blood orange peel interwoven with hay, dried herbs and cedar. A burst of peach skin and almond on the fresh, grippy palate leads to a long, savoury finish. Fascinating and delicious. Drink now or hold.

    WSET notes:

    Deep orange.

Pronounced on the nose with red cherry, dried cranberry, blood orange peel, peach skins, dried herbs, hay, earth, cedar, and almond. Fully developed.

Pronounced and dry on the palate. High acidity, medium alcohol, medium minus tannins, medium body, long finish.

Can drink now but has potential for aging.

  • Tondonia Tasting (Utregs Wijnhuis, Utrecht, NL): Medium pink with medium+ intensity with sherry, marzipan, oxidative, white chocolate, red dried fruit, water melon, nutty, oak. Medium+ acidity, medium+ flavor intensity, long finish. Always an amazing experience drinking this Rosado! 93+

4 years on old American oak. 60% Garnacho, 30% Tempranillo, 10% Viura

  • Pink/orange colour.

Nose - some cellar mustiness on opening. Left to breathe for a couple of hours. Then watermelon, strawberry and fine herbs.

Palate brings crisp acidity and fresh red fruit with the oft-mentioned sherry notes also in abundance. Underneath there is an umami-rich earthiness (nuts and perhaps black tea), giving spice, structure and weight to the wine. There are several other elements to the wine that I cannot pinpoint. The finish is long and unctuous and draws all of these complex elements together. It’s quite something.

At 12 years old this still feels young but is drinking beautifully. Hands down the nicest and most interesting rosé I have ever tasted.

  • Just a mesmerizing wine. Layers of strawberry and cream that’s somehow both structured and light at the same time, boozy and effortlessly quaffable. I called it “appetizer wine.” Will buy six more if I can find them.

  • A blend of Garnacha (60%), Tempranillo (30%) and Viura (10%). Aged for 4 years in oak barriques and for further 6 years in bottles before release. 12.5% alcohol and 6,7 g/l acidity. Total production 12,000 bottles. Decanted for a few hours before tasting the wine. Tasted blind.

Clear, medium-deep coppery-red color. The nose feels attractive, wonderfully complex and subtly sweet-toned with aromas of wild strawberries, some cherry tones, a little bit of caramel, light evolved notes of cooked cream, a hint of woody spice, a touch of bruised red apple and a whiff of butterscotch. The wine feels firm yet silky on the palate with great sense of freshness, a medium body and layered flavors of tart cranberries and crunchy redcurrants, some creamy nuances, a little bit of savory wood spice, light oxidative notes of caramel and chopped nuts, a hint of apple peel bitterness and a touch of stony minerality. The high acidity lends wonderful sense of freshness and structure to the wine while the subtle tannic grip adds a little bit to the firmness and to the texture. The finish is long, complex and harmonious with a dry, layered aftertaste of bruised apple, some crunchy redcurrants, a little bit of savory wood, light nutty tones, a hint of apple peel bitterness and a touch of caramel.

A beautiful, harmonious and so thoroughly classic example of Heredia Rosado. A very idiosyncratic example of aged Rioja Clarete and easily among the best rosé wines in the world - even if this wine wasn't even among the best vintages of Tondonia Rosado we tasted in this vertical of vintages 2012-1993. The overall feel was slightly more ripe than the vintages 2010 and 2008, but not as high as in the 2009. In terms of intensity and complexity, this was very slightly below the vintages 2008 to 2010, but showed more depth and vibrancy than the 2012, which was a notch below the other wines we tasted. All in all, this is a terrific rosé that drinks wonderfully now - especially after some aeration - but can easily evolve and improve for another decade. Solid value at 41,02€.

  • Vina Tondonia lunch at restaurant Maeve (Utrecht, NL): Initially more expressive than the 2010, which we tasted side by side. On the nose more fruity (strawberry, cranberry, raspberry, red apple) and not so much the sherry & nutty notes I remember from previous tastings. On the palate more umami. Medium+ acidity, some tannin structure and a long, red fruit driven finish

  • Utregs Wijnhuis Lopez de Heredia Tasting (Restaurant Maeve, Utrecht. NL): Lighter than both the 2009 and 2010, marvellous fragrance and nuance on the nose, nutty, candied fruit, more oak influence than 2010, light but grippy tannins, linear and quite dry, especially on the finish.

  • Back to a sound bottle after a clunker over the summer. The color of tea-almost like a brandy. Dry, but there are waves of tea, nuts, oxidative fruit, and citrus on the palate. Complex nose and palate that morph through an array of flavors and scents. Has a good bit of power in reserve and the flavors sit on the palate for a while after tasting. Seems youthful still. Singular wines.

  • Not decanted, tasted over a period of six hours - it really opens up with oxygen. Pelure d'oignon colour with a hint of tawny; marvellous complexity on the nose (tobacco, Grande Champagne Cognac, blood orange, almonds, olives, dried strawberry, book leather); grippy and steely palate, dry but with enough glycerine to avoid austerity, remarkably tight and youthful for an 11 year old rosé wine; the finish displays tart citrus flavours, an then fans out (with some understatement) to the aromatic richness of the nose, excellent length. Should develop well over an extended period of time.

  • Rosé Masterclass: A: Pale copper
N: Pronounced intensity of sweet tobacco, dried strawberry, dried and fresh blood orange, acetaldehyde (roast nuts and oyster mushroom), little furniture polish, clove
Dry,high acidity, medium (-) tannin, medium alcohol, medium (+) body, very creamy texture, pronounced intensity and long finish
Outstanding quality wine. Well defined, balanced ideal intensity and length with superb complexity. THis is suitable for ageing.

Absolute treat! Best Rosé that I have ever tasted. Unique among rosados.

  • An absolute treat. Brilliant copper/watermelon color
Oxidative notes of sherry, strawberry with some creamy elements, great acidity and tireless palate.

  • This is sort of a steroids version of the LdH rosado, sherry notes and oxidative character, marshmallow, cream cheese are in full effect with the volume turned up to 11. Polarizing, and a less subtle rendition of the rosado in my experience.

  • Belize Trip - Drinking Well in the Jungle; 6/25/2022-7/1/2022 (Chan Chich Lodge, Gallon Jug, Belize): watermelon and strawberry up front, navel orange, a little other citrus, the oak influence and spice hitting on the finish. Definitely unique and nice to drink, though not at the current tariff for me.

  • Strong fruit and a touch oxidized (by design). Complex.

  • What to make of this rosé? Truly unlike any other I’ve tried. Reminiscent of over the hill port. Nose of old attic books, truffle, wet earth and almond.

Palate is light and balanced with robust, persistent acid.

Flavours are dominated by earthy mushroom with just a hint of strawberry.

This is not a wine for everyone. It was a great experience to get to try this wine but given how hard it is to find and buy, I don’t think I would seek it out again.

  • "Día de los Daddys" (Chicago, IL): From a bottle that had been opened a few days ago. Crazy amount of oak on this, in a good Rioja sort of way, but still quite distracting. Like the 2016 Tempier today, the sort of rose that requires work to enjoy. Bone dry with almost no fruit here, and some high-toned notes on the finish.

  • A Lost Weekend In NH; 6/16/2022-6/20/2022 (Lake Wentworth): Not a representative bottle Or not ready. Just rather closed up and not as complex and interesting as the wines are. Dry, dry. and it Never really popped, even after a lot of air

  • BTG at 67 Pall Mall and Noble Rot: Lighter and not as structured as the 2009 I tried previously, lots of strawberry fruit in an understated manner. Of course this is relative, still very full-bodied compared to typical roses.

  • Almond paste, yeast, spices, oxidative (in the sense where it could've been under flor/sour voile), cherries, seaweed, orange. Had this semiblind next to a '08 of the same cuvée and to my surprise, this (the '11) felt more mature and more oxidative, and the better wine no doubt.

  • Deep copper orange colour. Red fruit, red cherry, blood orange, peach, citrus, leather, tobacco, nuts, and light spice, with light tannin, high, lively acidity, and great persistence. Lightly saline. Lingers on the palate for a minute. Good concentration and complexity. Well-structured, with great acidity. Very food-friendly. Still consistent on day four. Amazing rosé!

  • In some ways similar to the Gravonia, but honestly I prefer the Gravonia ‘13 versus this one. More dominated by MC and a touch of gentle tannin on the finish.

Deep, fully translucent brick-orange color. Sweet, subtly oak-kissed nose with aromas of caramel indicative both of oak and age, some bruised apple tones, a little bit of ripe strawberry, light vanilla tones, a hint of fresh red cherry and a faint touch of browned butter. The wine is bright, fresh and very complex on the palate with a medium body and layered flavors of strawberries, some creamy oak tones, a little bit of ripe cranberry, light oaky nuances of browned butter and caramel, a hint of stony minerality and a sweeter touch of dried stone fruits. The overall feel is very harmonious, lively and precise, thanks to the high acidity and a subtle touch of tannic grip. The finish is long, juicy and complex with vibrant, slightly evolved flavors of strawberries and fresh apples, some browned butter, a little bit of caramel, light cherry tones, oaky hints of creaminess and savory wood spice and a touch of stony minerality.

A beautiful, fresh and complex Rioja Clarete that was instantly recognizable for a Tondonia Rosado. I already had a strong hunch which wine it was just upon seeing it in a decanter and only the first sniff confirmed my suspicion. I had not tasted vintages 2010 and 2011 yet, just 2008 and 2009, so guessing the vintage correctly was pretty difficult. The wine showed ripeness similar to the vintage 2009, so I went with that one - but it turned out to be 2011. All in all, another terrific vintage of this idiosyncratic wine that is drinking mighty well right now, but will continue to do so for years - perhaps even decades - to come. Not particularly affordable for a rosé at 50€, but delivers for the price.

  • Tasted blind in week two of Blind.Faith’s tasting competition. I think this was the first and only time I’ve tasted something blind and just knew what it was (although I went for the 09 rather than 11). It’s a coppery coloured rose with quite an intense nose which is dominated by a savoury polished wood and celery leaf character. There are pithy citrus notes and red fruits in there underneath too. It’s so complex on the palate, medium bodied with plenty of acidity, a touch of spice, some tart citrus fruits, and almost bit creamy with a long, toasty, nutty finish. Just felt so LdH and absolutely lovely stuff.

  • First bottle of LdH Rosado for me. This is singular and expressive just like it’s Blanco siblings. In fact, if tasted blind I might not be able to differentiate the two. Compared to the ‘09 Blanco I drank alongside this, there was a touch of watermelon/very light red fruit and a little less acidity. Although I preferred the Blanco on this night, i would like to spend a little more time with this next time alongside some food to see if my thoughts change. An excellent wine regardless.

  • So full of life and primary red berries but also complex notes of sherry and almonds. The perfect rose!

  • This was an exciting surprise! My first impression of the 2011 vintage and reminds me why I adore this wine so much. The nose displays oxidative notes that give it a sherry-like character. Lovely strawberry, watermelon, and porcini. From an intellectual standpoint, this was a really fun wine on its own but it becomes even more exciting with the introduction of food. Unlike, most rosado wines, there’s a good amount of structure with some pretty noticeable tannins. Definitely a rosado for heartier meals. Today, it was paired with a tarte flambée topped with octopus and salsa verde and while this modern spin on Flammekueche was delicious, I think this Rosado was a little overpowering for the pairing. A unique wine that is stylistically more like their Blanco…and unlike anything else you’ve likely ever tried. The closest thing I can think of would be Chateau Musar’s equally elusive Rosé…and even that one isn’t as left field as this.

  • Garnacho (60%), Tempranillo (30%) and Viura (10%). Aged 4 years in American oak barrels, being hand racked twice a year. Fined with egg whites. 12.5 vol.

Decanted 8 hours before dinner into a narrow carafe and has still improved in the glass, enjoyed at approximately 14°C. On the nose very complex with mushrooms, raspberry, herbs and a hint of musk, on the palate starts a bit puzzling with cod-liver but this disappears after some minutes in the glass and it gets very approachable with good freshness, a bit of spiciness, dense and long.

Very unique and for sure not a crowed pleaser, needs patience. At this early stage I prefer the white and the red Tondonia but I can imagine that this will win with the years, I will try to wait and come back in 5+ years.

  • Deep burnished pink/amber. Wildly interesting nose of fino sherry and black cherry. Full and glycerine, it feels like drinking many a low tannin red wine. Some oxidized elements, red fruit, melon, and a ton of soil with only average acidity. Fascinating wine that demands a lot of attention to get a handle on it, and even then, I found it very difficult to categorize and describe.

  • Felt a bit flabby for the first 30 min, with mostly the oak showing.

After that, the wine came alive. This backbone of verve and acidity suddenly appeared. The fruits (like watermelon) turned fresh. I originally had it cellar temp but then chilled a bit further and really liked the results.

Others have said watermelon and mushrooms, but for me a more exact description would be watermelon and PARMESAN. And a nice rich chalkiness on the back end.

Air was very kind to this. In future I would recommend uncorking and chilling in the fridge for 30 min before serving.

  • Fabulously distinctive and perfectly in line with prior vintages going back to 2008. Trademark bright copper salmon. Waxy, deep, savory, presenting a complex cornucopia of mushroomy and pleasantly musky flavors. Extremely enjoyable, meted out over three nights. And a tiny taste remaining on the fourth was just as fabulous.

  • Kompleks gran reserva rosevin.
Mye av samme karakteristikken som hvitvinene fra samme Bodega. Vakker farge. Fat, røde bær, sitrus.
Høyt priset pga etterspørsel. Utvikler seg helt sikkert til det bedre om noen år.

  • Rose perfection. Mid weight with equal parts lemon curd, mint, Indian spice, wild strawberry, and sap. A hint of honey and a slight tannic bite. Wow. Interestingly, I didn't get much oxidative character on the first night when this was open but on night 3 the richness had faded and the notes of oxidation came forward.

  • Medium salmon colour. Pronounced nose with ripe strawberry, ripe red currant, brioche, mushrooms, walnuts, leather, wet leaves and oak. Pronounced taste of white strawberries, strawberries, ripe red currant, brioche, mushrooms, orange peel, walnuts and wet leaves. Long and dry finish. High acidity. Medium body. An outstanding rosé that proves the potential of a well made and well matured rosé. Needed 15 min in the glass to open. Drink now or over the next five years.Goes well with cheese, mushroom, poultry.

  • Won't score it with my yak of a palate. I didn't get the wine. My first LdH... sweet and sour watermelon, mushrooms, and some sherry. Nice purity, acidity and textures... but did not love or understand the flavors... more interesting than enjoyable. Thought perhaps the wine was flawed until I saw other CT notes here mentioning melon and mushrooms too....

  • Something else in terms of being a rosé wine. Both me and the wife loved it. Ripe strawberry, mushroom and nuts on the nose. Amazing acidity balanced with great fruit consentration. Again with strawberries. Integrated wood and subtile spice in the end. WOW. This was fun, and such a joy.

  • Serious, intense wine with deep, amber color. Opens up with a nose strawberries, sherry, nuts. Complex on the palate with marks of dried fruit, subtle oak, melon and citrus. The extended barrel aging shines through. Like drinking a chilled Rioja with just a bit more freshness than the red versions. Not your ordinary rosé, for sure, a wine that requires attention and food. This is a step up from the 2010 in terms of intensity and complexity.
