Wow - this still has so much oak. I enjoyed this wine three years ago so either my taste has changed or something was up with this bottle - tasted heavy handed and even after 20 years of age it was flat and overpowering

The 2004 Le Macchiole Scrio was showing perfectly mature tonight and wonderfully enjoyable. It's nose was rich with sweet herbal and tobacco notes followed by dusty minerals, bacon fat dark chocolate, haunting dark florals, and blackberry fruits. On the palate, i found creamy textures with a bitter twang of herbs up front, followed by spicy black fruits, with saline-minerality and savory spice. The finish was long, displaying bitter dark fruit laced with saline minerals, orange-tinged spice and hints of fine tannin.

Polished, opulent and layered, with a rustic earthiness that keeps the ripe fruit in balance. Pepper, dark fruit, herbs and cedar. Lush but never heavy. I loved it, and it will only get better.

this is an amazing bottle. Near perfect from start to finish. Cocoa, spice, extremely smooth finish. Opened one hour before. Drank along w the 2005. The 05 was bigger and more tannic at this point.

Le Macchiole Wine Dinner (La Pizza Fresca Ristorante): A more closed aromatically and at the same time more advanced wine than the '00. Similar profile of cocoa powder, earth, with a hint of olive, sage and melange of dark fruit. Not as concentrated as the '00.

Packed with blue and black fruit. Black Currant and eucalyptos. Maybe a bit of menthol as well. Lovely wine. It is still young.but after 3 hours in the decanter it opened up nicely.

Alcohol :: 14% A blind. I tasted and feel the wine profile is similar to the Messorio and with the peppery, spices and herb that is slight pungent at the moment intermixed with dark fruits, perfume floral with sweet material underlying give me a hint that this could be the Scrio, a 100% Syrah produced from Le Macchiole. This too is well-structure, with lots of new oak but thanks to the richly concentrated ripe dark fruits that completely buried the oak and structure, the wine is opulent, polished in texture with voluptuous mouth feel made it quite approachable compare to the 2006 Messorio. Though slight sweet, this is fresh and focus with savory flavors, salted plum, and lots of black fruits, hot sun, vanilla balance with fresh ripe acidity and powdery tannins leads to long long minty finish with spices aftertaste. This already show good depth and certain complexity though not necessary with good level of finesse. A showy wine. Buy - Yes.

A Morning of Informal Tastings (Lam Soon): Guessed blind, I thought it was a new world wine from its lighter body and cooler climate character. In retrospect, its obvious that those character belongs to old world Syrah! The palate is dominated by pepper and mint and many guessed correctly that it was a Syrah. I could not find anything I dislike about this wine except it would drink much better with some red meat. If old world syrah is your thing then this is a very good expression of it.

Gorgeous nose of pepper and earth and berries. Rich, unctuous mouthfeel...Ribbons of beautiful blackberry and black raspberry get better and better the more this wine opens up in the glass. The pepper notes sparkle during an almost endless finish. This is unbelievable now. Maybe it will age, but I don't care. It was near perfect tonight.

Enormously full bodied. Awesome wine. Clearly syrah. Chocolate and pepper. Good acidity. So young! Needs at least 5 years of rest. Might gain in score.

Quite a nice wine. Still quite fresh. Not a typical Syrah. Drink now over the next 10 years

Still a decadent bottle. Perfect mix of dark fruits, spice, a little chocolate. Great on its own or with food.

Blue and black fruits, with a lot of peppery spices and herbs. While a bit peppery for my palate, I did enjoy this wine.
