Crunchy is a word and this is on crunchy, vibrant fruit - 18 years in, I might add - with crunchy cherry fruit flavors, orange peel notes, licorice pastilles. High acidity, fresh, elegant and airy fruit and one of the best wines I’ve had in a long time. Wow. And - many years of life left.

beautifully resolved, smooth in the musigny way. Fruit depth is, however, limited and only goes that far before ending in a barky anaethetic way. Corcelotte is doing much better now

Wow, what a wine. Much more expressive compared to the bottle I opened a year ago, this is floral and displays cranberry fruit, licorice pastilles and a hint of orange peel. The fruit is almost primary, there is purity and a precision here, a bright acidity cutting through. Delicious to drink right now but will certainly keep for years. Will Beaujolais get better than this?

Less expressive compared to the 2006 Descombes Chiroubles, much lighter in terms of fruit and body, more feminine and elegant, yet assertive. On cherry notes with a hint of orange and spices. Bright acidity, good freshness. Didn’t change much over the course of 2 days, in fact it kept better than the Descombes. Great wine, definitely worth cellaring.

Magnum. harmonious and poised with a lovely fruit profile. In a far better place than a mag from the same case three years ago. Lovely density of fruit, quite dark but vibrant. Shows well over a couple of hours. Lovely. ****

Beautiful. Stands beyond the vintage. Most of the other good versions have been a little soft, blocky, and meaty. This has nice focus and those beautiful Foillard aromatics.

Magnum. In a slightly awkward state where it's past it's exuberant crunchy red fruit, but it hasn't got to that more mature 'wannabe Burgundy' character. Fruit starting to relax and show a more mellow and slightly baked character, acidity still good with a fresh finish. Lovely wine, but I do miss the exuberant fruit of it's youth. ***1/2

Drop-dead gorgeous wine. Incredibly fragrant nose of wild flowers and ripe, yet restrained strawberry fruit. Liquid schist, restrained, intense garden fruit dominates the palate. This is so fine and elegant, yet there's a certain element of rusticity and wildness that just adds to this wines character. Surprisingly youthful, this hasn't budged much in the years I've had it in the cellar. A triumph.

This is OK but no more. It does have the Foillard perfume, if you look for it. But it's just flat. No tension. None of the energy of the young versions, without replacing it with something more interesting. Hold and hope for better.

In a good state right now with pronounced cherry aromatics and an earthy, dark fruited palate. Lots of structure and good balance that will allow this wine to age, but why wait? Delicious now.

This bottle was rocking. Beautiful nose, fresh red strawberry with some blueberry and cherry. Even though there's a lot of fruit, there's also a lot going on giving this wine a certains austerity. Very chalky, both on the palate and nose and a lot of tobacco. Add on top of this some floral notes, a this Morgon is a dream to drink. Wow!

Having never got what beaujolais was about...this is a superb introduction and great value (~14 quid from the Sampler). Light and fruity but not lacking in sublety and complexity - food friendly crowd pleaser which will please your wine bore friends too.

Light colour... but not "nouveau" light, somewhat cloudy. Interesting nose, quite floral, intense rose petal mixed with some earthy elements. Balanced... long. Yes, I concur with the others; spice to give it that extra bit of complexity. Nice acidity, smooth tannins. Blind tasted this to a friend who spent the first half of the evening bad mouthing gamay... but there were no bananas or strawberries here, and he was converted by the end of the evening.

Just had my first bottle of this, really pleasantly surprised. Looks light in the glass, very cherry red though slightly cloudy, but a good firm feel in the mouth, spice as others have noted, a bit of acid to help cut through food, a tang of meat and good fruit, very easy smooth drinking. Not usually a gamay drinker but this could convert me.

Have just opened this. I was unacquainted with this wine and not knowing what grape it was made from it made for an interesting first reaction. The spice was abundant and forward on the first taset. The comments on here about the nose being of dirt or brick dust are right too. Lingering minerality ... with a lingering, wonderful, light floral fragrance that develops on the finish. Magnificent! This is more enjoyable than I was expecting. A really great change from the fruitier stuff. Definitely buying more.

Light, strawberry color in the glass. Nose throws some funk and dirt upon opening. Nice funk. Strawberry and cherry fruit lurks an peppery-spice abounds on a palate that is wrapped kind of tight initially. There's a salinity to the palate, too. Opens nicely with air. More dark cherry. Long finish. Concentrated. Structured. Yum.

90 pts

This took a lot of time to get itself under control - alcohol heat on the nose and general funk for at least two hours. unlike the last time, however, the end result did not justify this investment of time and energy. it was certainly lovely wine and quite delicious, but without the spicy and earthy complexity of the previous bottles. bottle variation...

This is a classic Beaujolais -- terrific aromatics of strawberry, cherry and raspberry pie, with some smoke and spice. I've been enjoying it for two nights, and it hasn't changed much. Light-bodied, fresh, and quite elegant, with cherry fruit flavors. A very versatile food wine. The first night I had it with pasta and a ragu, then with an Indian shrimp curry, and it worked well with both. Bravo.

I couldn't wait to try this, after the stunning 2005. While this version is very good and clean (no bacterial problems I could spot) -- an even mix of red and black fruits, freshly turned earth, and faint, yet compelling, aromatics -- it doesn't equal last year's effort or Lapierre in 2006. That bar is quite high, and perhaps this will look better after it has a chance to settle and put on some weight.

Medium color with some cloudiness. Some brett and dark cherry on the nose. Appealing sappiness but funky, metallic finish. I've not had good luck with Foillard's wines, finding a variety of flaws in many bottles. Sadly, this was again the case today. Is there some microbiological problem in this cellar that compromises the stability of the wines?

Very Burgundian
Appearance: Clear, transparent, but with small particles, pale ruby core, light pink watery rim.
Nose: Healthy, medium + intensity, cherry, leather, wood (pine/cedar)
Palate: Dry, medium acid, medium tannin, palate consistent with nose, medium body, medium - finish.
Great wine!
