J$ supplied for our French wine dinner at CKH. Textbook right bank wine with plenty of plummy red fruit both on the nose and palate. Earthy, with notes of forest floor, leather, chocolate and tar as well. Some toasted oak as well, with a noticeable chalkiness on the back end. Good acidic core to balance the fruit. Very nice showing, particularly for a vintage that was avg at best.

Purchased at auction in 2012. Pristine bottle, perfect level and cork. Not decanted, opened three hours in advance. Mature but lively appearance; lovely Pomerol nose, excellent complexity (cherries, flowers, earth, vanilla pod, oak spice, tobacco, truffle), pure and transparent, good depth; gentle and harmonious palate, elegant and flowing, relatively light style but more generosity than the previous bottle (tasted in 2020), almost resolved papery tannins; complete finish with very good resonance and length. A quiet wine, graceful and well matured. Drink soon.

Medium ruby color. Elegant expressive nose of ripe blackcurrant, wet forest floor, toasted oak. Dry, rounded acidity, well-structured tannins, palate follows through. Medium full body. Great balance. Medium tapering finish.

Has this twice over the past few months with Aristocratic, earthy and restraint nose. Wet forest floor, pauillacesque almost. Masculine but the tannins are dissolved enough to make it work. Good volume for the vintage. A solid but not among the great Trotanoys (no surprize, 1999 after all). 94+

We had this at our dinner on Friday, but it was really over shadowed by the other wines and I felt like I barely tasted it. Opened another today and gave it 2+ hours of air after a double decant. Classic pomerol nose, red fruit. Really vibrant and fresh. Long finish. As another CT reviewer said you can almost taste the clay. I often feel we do ourselves a disservice drinking so many good wines in one sitting, rather than savoring the uniqueness of each bottle.
Classic right bank. I’m told this is something like 90%merlot. It is red fruited, with a hint of tomato. Leafy, with red currant, you can really taste the chalky clay in along the finish. Truly an exercise in Pomerol and showing very well. Thanks Nutty08

Wow. Stunner of a wine and better than expected. Aromatic bdx with a fit of leafy green elegance mixed with floral fruit notes. Mid weight palate, red fruited with mature elements, mixed with green tobacco leaf. Lengthy finish, but a bit drier and less powerful than stronger years. Early maturity. Drink/hold medium term.

Pristine bottle purchased at auction in 2012. Not decanted, opened four hours in advance. An elegant and delicate style of Trotanoy, fully mature but fresh and lively, relatively cool and transparent but with beautifully developed aromas of red berries, earth, white chocolate and truffle, develops a hint of coffee bean and some spicy depth, mildly grippy tannins and a slightly tea-like finish. I love the terroir expression, but there is a certain lack of generosity. Drink up.

Blind tasted with minimal decanting. Of the four of us who had this blind including a MW none of us though this was Bordeaux or anywhere close. Was more of rhone wine for us, like a chapoutier grand release. Well round, lig spice, good red fruits. Fine tannin and feels like it's well into its drinking window. Very nice but really atypical. 92-94

The fruit has definetly settled, since my previous tasting, and the wine is just approaching its drinking window. Still tannic but with a 2-4 hours decant this was ready for business. Has an elegance and lightness to it that makes it stand out compared to many other wines from this district. Had an 82 of this wine some months ago, but this is so good that I would do with this, if comparing prices.

Light, bright, focused on red fruit over black, earth and tobacco in the nose. Medium bodied with some tones of under-ripeness in spicy, red berry finish. This is probably fully mature. I'd drink it sooner than later.

Q young looking, only slight browning on the rim. Enchanting bouquet of ripe berries, can smell it all day! The taste is another story, bitter attack, thin mouthfeel, high acid and alcohol, not enjoyable (7.7/10) . http://sgbordeaux.blogspot.com/2011/03/ch-trotanoy-vertical-tasting.html

Mature and evolved, medium to light weight. Delicious, very feminine, like a sweet kiss this wine charms on the nose with its blackberries, plums, sweet spices, cake, and flowers, reminded me less of a Trotanoy and more of La Conseillante. Beautiful plum core color with crimson rim; on the palate nice minerality, black fruit compote and crushed blueberries mixed with sweet spices, fully resolved tannins and a toffee like delicate finish. Caresses your palate. Lushness reminicent of the 98 Trot though this is a watered down shadow of that vintage. A delight to drink.

Lovely. Lush Pomerol velvet like a backbeat from that lighter '99 vintage. Can't complain too much - delivers exactly what I want from Trot with a combo of furries animal notes and dark fruits with a nice tannic set of bars to keep it all inside.
Should mention - this wine is reasonably mature. A couple of hours brings out more advanced notes. Not a flaw for a well-stored bottle by any means, but wholly reflective of the vintage. Enjoy as it should be.

Reward (Yazawa @ Roberson Walk): Alcohol :: 13.5% This is slight edgy compared to the 2002 but also having better substances and depth that will age gracefully in the next 5yrs and this is a better wine compare to the 2002. Similar aromatic profile to the 2002 but it is deeper and more complex with roasted herb, green capsicum, ash, smoke with sweet currant and blackberry fruits. Low-medium level of firm tannin coated the palate, especially the side along with higher level of lively acidity that formed a firm backbone with bigger scale and structure. Quite juicy with medium complexity and depth, juicy sweet plum on the long, firm finish that linger with roasted herb, mineral, sweet currant aftertaste with additional blackberry and spices complexity compare to the 2002. This is good but still not fully open for business yet. Give it another 5-7yrs and it will be evolved into something special. P/s: there were two bottles in the dinner, one is showing better freshness, tension and more complete than another. Buy - Yes.

I got this on close-out at "only" $100. It was vinegar. We could not drink it. Foul stuff. I see Vickers on line has it at $79. so I don't think i got a great price on this bad wine.
After one day I tasted it again. it is not as bad as yesterday but still not enjoyable. I have an awful feeling after reading some other posts here (Will the thrill) that this stuff may normally taste like this. Sort of like sour tea. yukk.
Hard to believe this is the same wine others are raving over though. I still think this bottle was poorly stored and is over the hill.
On the third day it was better, but still sour tasting. My wife drank some while I was upstairs so there was not enough to return to the store.
I found that adding 3 parts Potensac 2005 to 1 part of this stuff made it almost enjoyable, so we drank it. Pretty wasteful though,
considering the potensac was better straight and 1/3 the price.
what a lesson. I still cannot accept that this wine was not spoiled somehow. It also gave me a headache.
Surely there is would be a very small audience for such tasting stuff at this price. I will probably never try this again.
And by the way I have always liked pomerols before and considered them elite wines,.

To the point. This is a good Pomerol - mostly Merlot and all that can mean. This is the second time I have drunk this wine, and my opinion is unchanged: this is not an easy wine to drink - it has that Merlot rusty taste with a difficult burnt tannin finish. Not my cup of tea, although I appreciate that it is well made. Most importantly, yet again I had a headache the next day from this wine. Not for me.

Tasted blind, decanted prior to tasting. Wine appeared bright despite rim variation; plum body to a ruby rim, slightly watery. On the nose the wine appeared more developed than youthful, moderate + intensity with toffee, cedar, clove, clay, iron, leather, black plum and slight black berry and smoked pepper notes. On the palate, the soft, fleshy tannins are well integrated and balanced with low + acids, moderate + alcohol and wonderful flavors of juicy black fruit, leather, clove, cedar, mocha, tobacco and potpourri. This wine was in fabulous condition! Half the group nailed it as a Pomerol, though were all astounded by youthful color, flavor and condition despite the age. This wine shows wonderfully now though could develop well over the next 10 years. 90% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc. $67 wholesale. Would buy again.

dark bricky red, stinky right out of the bottle this retans a firm edge of barnyard on the nose to which s added some loamy ash, used coffee grounds, plum jam, and notes of vegetal decay - juicy red currant fruit right up front with good acidity and tannins, medium bodied, just not elegant since the tannins begin to assert themselves, the finish shows nice mocha and earth notes with bright strawberry fruit on the finish which evolves into notes of tobacco and pomegranate seeds, finish is long at first progressively shortening as the tannins build. Cool and still slightly coiled bordeaux in need of another 2-3 years to be completely approachable but a nice bottle.

Decanted 2 hours ahead. Deep ruby color, perfectly clear, hint of bricking on the edge. Aromas of cherries, tobacco, saddle leather, hanging meat and ends with a whiff of spice. Medium body, modest acid with silky tannins. Very smooth flavors of cherries, plums and just a little bitterness on the finish. Lasts on the palate with a 10 sec finish. This is not a blockbuster, but a very refined Bordeaux. More complexity on the nose than the palate, but drinking very well now and will likely last but not sure it will get much better. I'll plan to drink these up over the next 5-7 years. 50+5+14+16+7 = 92

This is a simple, medium-bodied red wine, never very expressive aromatically nor offering much range in flavor. But the structure and tactile sensation of the wine proves what a great terroir can do. Words like "delicacy," "grace," and "tenderness" come to mind to sum up the silky weightlessness with which the wine caresses the palate. The fruit is subtle and pure and in perfect proportion to the other elements, resisting every Right Bank trend towards syrupy richness and spoofilation. It goes down effortlessly and just when the bottle is nearly finished, the fruit becomes more transparent to reveal previously hidden depths: strong flavors of cigar tobacco and a savory gaminess.

Popped and poured. Aromas of cherries, tobacco, spice, earth, mocha. On the palate, red plum, black cherry, red currant, mocha. Very silky and well balanced. Finishes with smooth and sweet but very present tannins. I would say this is in its window right now. Outstanding. Drink over the next 10 years.

A Complex and a medium-bodied wine, 5 to 10 years to go in my opinion!

Dark ruby, perfectly clear. Aromaqs of cherries, tobacco, spice and a little funk that blows off right wawy. Black cherry and red currant on the palate. Nice balance and silky. Mocha and earth on the finish with silky tannins. Probably still needs a little time to show all it has.

dark bricky red, stinky right out of the bottle this retans a firm edge of barnyard on the nose to which s added some loamy ash, used coffee grounds, plum jam, and notes of vegetal decay - juicy red currant fruit right up front with good acidity and tannins, medium bodied, just not elegant since the tannins begin to assert themselves, the finish shows nice mocha and earth notes with bright strawberry fruit on the finish which evolves into notes of tobacco and pomegranate seeds, finish is long at first progressively shortening as the tannins build. Cool and still slightly coiled bordeaux in need of another 2-3 years to be completely approachable but a nice bottle.

Graceful silky wine. Nice dark fruit flavors with an earthy expression of terroir. This may have been an "off" bottle. The first one I drank was much more refined and had bigger fruit flavors.
