Some BYO Wines at Noble Rot, Wellington: Brief note of a wine served double blind to me. A dark nose: black spices, dark cherries and other black fruit and some wet soil. Also lifted and perfumed with violets and other dark florals. Drinking beautifully. Austere and crystalline, I picked its 2006 character, but not it as a Fourrier. Very good. Drink soon though.

Double decanted about 1.5 hours before dinner. Dark red fruit, some spice. Lively, still seems fresh. Terrific aromatics; not quite as expressive on the palate, but still delicious. Excellent accompaniment to the duck breast. Riedel Burgundy stems.

Northern Gevrey 1er (Zoom): Wow, divine aromas of pure black cherry with intense spice and florals. Rich and ripe on the palate yet so lively and bright. Awesome purity on the long, long finish. A terrific 1er.

Gevrey-Chambertin (Northside) 1er Cru Tasting (Chicagoland): I accidentally opened this instead of Champeaux (given the northside Gevrey 1er Cru theme), but it turned out to be one of highlights of the tasting. Dense black fruit with a surprising brightness for the vintage with excellent clarity, precision and length. So enjoyable right now.

Very pretty, light and easy going but elegant florals and perfumes. Subtle earth influence. I think an ‘05 Gevrey VV from memory was stronger and more interesting.

Decanted 6 hours. When first opened, it seemed just a little tight. A spell in a decanter just let it relax and open beautifully. The nose entices with cherry and forest aromas. Its quite light on the palate, but has good carry and fine intensity. In a good spot now.

(N.B. Funky nose with dried mushroom at first and need decanting, nose came back to normal but later returned to original reductive nose, a weird showing. My frd told me the leftover in decanter turned much better on next morning).

Showed best on night two. Great nose. It over-promises the palate a little, but that's not a slight. An elegant wine with great balance. The long finish caps it off. In a good drinking window at present.

Red fruits dominate the nose. The palate is fine, light/med bodied, and shows the delineating acids of the vintage. Fans out a little on the finish, which is long and slender, fine tannins, mineral tones. Still has years ahead of it.

Medium-pale amber. Medium+ intensity, showing sweet red berry fruit aromas of strawberry and red current. Perhaps a bit more closed than the 2007. Medium bodied on the palate with high acidity and a savoury, meaty taste. Long. Very good.

Wow! Something magical and complex and earthy and spicy (light) and juicy (but not forward) and SMOOTH...wow II! A superb Fourrier. Worth every penny if you can find it.

Aromatic nose, red fruit, some sous-bois. Taste cherries and cassis, minerals, some tannins in the finish. Elegant wine, very balanced, typical Fourrier wine. Great drink.

From memory, dinner with Cathy at Scaramouche. Aromatic, earthy nose of cherries, elegant and filled with sous bois. Palate was quite tart, soft tannins, easy to drink, medium length. Paired well with food, and Cathy was impressed.

Soft, open and yummy. Some maple-y sweetness alongside the soft spice and red fruits. Really tasty, and showing the 1er cru depth on the long, spicy finish. Still mostly primary but just starting to stretch out a bit.

Probably caught a year to two too soon, but lovely nonetheless. Consistent with other vintages of Fourrier Cherbaudes: earth and minerality dominate the aromatics and palate. Dark red to light black fruit, if that makes any sense. A little drying on the finish. Try again early 2014.
