During the La Paulee in Meursault so only brief impressions. Dense, sturdy rustic, like a mediocre Pommard. A disgrace what they do with this top vineyard.

Glowing, ruby red in color. Rather vibrant without much signs of age. On the nose this was quite open with notes of ripe red cherry and red berry fruits, violets and rose petals, and an almost sappy but fresh character with savory spices of clove, and Asian tea. Classic Vosne. On the palate, again, ripe red fruits, with good mid palate concentration and density and a sappy but still fresh fruit profile. Good balancing acidity with very ripe but still strong tannins that were particularly drying on the long and sappy finish. This was absolutely excellent and in a terrific place right right now. I wouldn’t hesitate to open a bottle but it also has the stuffing to last another decade plus and will continue to develop.

Dinner with Herwig (Heirloom cafe): Aromatic, spice, balance, small cluster red fruit, a bit of Asian spice; palate is light bodied, red fruited, good density of flavor and complexity, still a bit young but tannins are integrated; finish is medium-plus. A lovely Vosne Romanée wine. 93-94

Opened in the bottle for one hour to pournad drink. Lovely noble ruby colourand rose aroma at begining which transformed into tea and herbs. Silky smooth palate with a minute long after taste filled with red fruits and minerals. An elegant wine and should be drank now.

At a Burgundy BYO lunch. This stood out as it was a realisation what 10y in the bottle may do to an average vintage and a first class vineyard. Intoxicating nose of orange, mint, deep red mature fruit. Lively, vibrant still. Smooth with a very fine balance and long finish. Superb 94-95p

Friday after Thanksgiving (FAT) - Part 1 - Burgundy 2006 (Palm Beach Gardens FL): Tasting, brief note. Open a couple of hours before tasting, then tasted again a few hours later. This wine probably really needed more time and/or cellar time. i found it slightly hard and backward, even rough around the edges. Not close to the fun I recall from when tried shortly after release, but with the concentration that makes me hopeful that this will evolve into something very enjoyable.

We saved half of another bottle for day two and it was just as good, slightly more open and more fruit. The oak was more evident on day two, and it seemed slightly modern in style.

Compared to the last bottle, while this is still pretty tight on the nose, the palate exhibits much for sweet, ripe, round red and blue fruit. Some oak and plum notes along with a floral note. Still very stacked, but very enjoyable now.

OMG that's what burgundy used to taste like when I could afford it. Dark ruby in the glass, a touch of volatile acidity that quickly blew off, then this cascade of aromas and flavors, red fruits, spices, oak, a bit of funky forest floor, all knit together. Silky mouthfeel with fine tannins, long finish. Felt ripe and ready to me, but we were drinking from a faster maturing 375ml bottle.
Christmas WIMPs - Burgundy II (La Trompette, Chiswick): Youthful appearance - medium ruby. Shows lovely purity of fruit, bilberries/damsons. Medium bodied, fine but still firm tannins still reining this in, but it's all there. Just needs time ***(**).

Perfect bottle. Still young colour, carmine red, clear. Raisins, sultan raisins, spice box, roses, wild strawberries, old cubbard, oak and black cherries. Great mouthfill. This wine start to get into the drinking window, but my dear friend mean this wine should saved 20 - 50 years from now. He might be right. This is a Grand Vin and La Grande Rue deserves its Grand Cru status. Great dark fruit, lots of energy here, lovely but dry tannins, good acidity, elegant mineral with a dusty note, great balance, long finish.
I served this wine blind to my dear friend and he guessed Chambertin Clos de Bèze 1999 at first and later a 1999 Musigny. And I can really see why he ends up there. Lots of energy, lots of power, yet in a feminim and elegant way. This wine reminds me of the lovely Eva Green.
Drank at home over 3 hours and saved a glass for day 2. Initially the nose was pretty closed at first, but opened up ever so slightly after 2 hours. It revealed tightly wound dark fruit, earth, spice, minerals and quite a bit of oak/vanilla. The palate was full and sweet. Black and blue fruit with more spice and black pepper. Great depth and richness but this needs to unfold. Power without weight. Long, building finish. Try again in a few years.

Traveled east to visit family (Inauguration) and found this bottle in a retail store 24 hours after sampling first bottle of La Grand Rue, a 1999, 24 hours ago. Brought to family dinner where popped and poured. Dark ruby. Reticent nose which opened up after an hour to reveal pungent florals, pine forest, cinnamon, red and black berry. Bright, fresh, smoothly-textured layers of red raspberry fruit infused with tightly-grained iron and mineral notes on the palate, along with minimal oak influence which did not detract. Very nice acidity and muscular but not outlandish tannins. Moderately-long finish of polished red fruit and iron. Similar to the '99 in its beautiful assemblage of elegance, power, and evolution in the glass, but a touch behind in regard to detail and complexity. Very young of course. I'd be happy to sample this again in 8 to 10 years.

Gorgeous nose. Aromatic, intense, and clean. Notes of cherry, blueberry with touch of toasty oaks, nice. Dare I say DRC RSV? Smooth and almost silky on entry, sweet tannins. Low acidity level. Label indicated 13.5% with no heat. Medium-bodied with very good balance. It is approachable now but will develop more complexity as it ages. This wine is about finesse rather than power. Lovely. 93-96 pts.

2012 BMDP Charity Dinner and Extras (Meritus Mandarin / Giant Garoupa): Popped and poured, this started out far less impressively than the last bottle we had, only slowing opening up in the course of an hour in the glass to show some excellent promise. On first pour, the nose was rather dominated by oaky nuances of vanilla and milk chocolates, which only slowly opened up to show classic Vosne notes of sweet spices and herbs floating around a core of rich cherry and plum aromas that had a lovely sense of natural ripeness in them. By the end of the evening, there was quite a bit of complexity on the nose. The palate was very impressive. It had lovely depth to it, marrying power and elegance in its deep, juicy flavours of cherries and berries streaked with vibrant acidity and finely integrated tannins. Quite the proverbial iron fist in a velvet glove. No doubt that this was a Grand Cru here. While still barely out of its childhood, this was already showing hints of bugeoning complexity as well, with little motes of earth and toasty wood spice moving into a long, velvety finish. A very complete wine. Rather too young at the moment of course, but this continues to be on track to be a beauty in the next decade or so.

A Trip through the Cote d'Or - Alex's 30th Birthday and celebration for William and Gina - (Chui Hui Lim Teochew Restaurant, Keng Lee Road): By far the youngest of the reds on show, but this was clearly brilliant even in its precocious youth. Opened 6 hours before serving, it had crazy a nose that swayed seductively out of the glass with gentle toasty notes, dried earth andfragrant Vosne wood spice floating over great depths of dark fruit. Woah - that was one crazy nose! What a wonderful palate too. A bit young, a bit tight compared to the other wines on the flight, but this had a lovely sappiness to its dark fruited flavours and a delicious juicy acidity that kept the wine ever so lively as it led into a velveteen midpalate butressed with wafts of earth, wood spice and mineral. There were layers of complexity and lovely density here, unfolding gracefully into a long, deep finish where fine tannins peeked out alongside juicy dark cherry fruit and Vosne wood spice flavours. All wonderful focus and lively energy, this was delicious. Young, but really super solid, a real Grand Cru experience. I loved this.

Knightsbridge Burgundy Tasting: New Releases (Northbrook, IL): Wine tasting. Black cherry and boysenberry on nose with exceptional fresh herbs and spice. Flavors continue precisely from the nose, with lots of ripe fruit showing power and concentration. Great finish assisted by elegant tannins and great acidity. I believe this is the first vintage made with the Lamarche daughter in charge. Impressive - this might be better than her father's excellent 2005. Overall this was my favorite wine today, with the possible exceptions of Olivier Bernstein's unusual chameleon - 2007 Vosne-Romanee les Suchots and of course, Vogue 2007 Musigny.
