Beautiful wine tasted at cellar door. Reading past reviews was afraid this was over the hill but it’s beautifully made and blended, and still within drinking window. But probably needs to be drunk now or within the next year. Complete harmony of fruit and rich spices, with bell pepper notes. Turns out both the Il Blu and Ilatraia requires more than 10 years to get there! (I had tasted the 2015 as well and it still needed time).

This wine is just delicious at this point, as all components are well developed and well integrated. Medium (+) to deep ruby red in color, with very little sign of aging. The nose is clean, with black fruit, black currant, dried herbs, mushrooms, leather. The palate is dry, but with plenty of ripe black fruit balanced by medium to medium (+) acidity, tannins and alcohol. This is a very polished, very balanced international style wine, with a very smooth mouthfeel. Based on its development over the last two years, I think this is going to continue drinking very well at least through 2020. A very good value for a luxury wine. I wish I had more.

A polished Super Tuscan blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Sangiovese and 10% Petit Verdot. Medium (+) to deep ruby red in color, with very little sign of aging. The nose is clean and developing, with black fruit, black currant, dried herbs. The palate is dry, with the ripe fruit being well balanced by acidity probably provided by the Sangiovese. The tannins and alcohol are medium to medium (+). This is a very polished, very balanced international style wine, with a very smooth mouthfeel. It is very good, but could be easily mistaken for a Bordeaux. Drinking well now, and at least through 2018, as it has not yet really developed any tertiary aromas. A very good value for a luxury wine.

Four hour plus decant did little to take the edge off the nose which the petit verdot leads along with a strong oak presence. The palate started off much the same but the air did calm the oakiness down, with a strong nutty component working with the extracted dark fruit. Soft acidity and supple tannins round out a longer finish and a robust mouthfeel. While this wine is ten years in the bottle it came across as young, in particular in the bouquet, this needs serious air time to bring out its better self, or more time in the cellar.

Happy birthday, Michelle! And what a great way to celebrate as this wine was absolutely wonderful. And so continues our fantastic success with Italian wines the past few weeks. Composed of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Sangiovese, 10% Petit Verdot, the wine had the complexity to show the best qualities of each grape. The Petit Verdot was actually the star for us with its floral accents on nose and palate. At 9.5 yrs old it was still vibrant with a few good years left in it. An absolutely wonderful wine.

This is a delicious wine. Pop and pour but needs 30-60 minutes to settle down. inky purple. The nose is vanilla, blackberry, graphite and smoke. Brought to Amy's on the Avenue in Crystal River to have with tapas. Amy graciously decanted this for us (no corkage!) while we had an appetizer. Opened up completely after about 40 minutes. Still a youthful looking magenta in color. Has a pretty nose of dark berries, earth and cumin. Full-bodied - but like the other Ilatraia's I've tasted (2007 & 2010), it's very elegant in weight. Extremely silky in texture and bursting with ripe, tangy blackberry and raspberry fruit. Shows phenomenal depth and pin-point focus on the mid-palate, which also features a prominent violet note. Impeccably balanced, with the Sangiovese in the blend providing just the right amount of acidity. The long, beautifully polished finish is dripping with ripe fruit and offers subtle notes of citrus, mineral and spice. There is so much elegance, finesse and complexity to this. A gorgeous Toscana from a very under-rated vintage that is now in its prime. 50+5+12+18+9=94

thanks to reviews here, this was decanted 2-3 hours before serving. it was rich, dark, and became almost sumptuous. Everyone liked it, but both my wife and I agreed that the ragnaie 2005 brunello a friend brought clearly surpassed it in subtlety, smoothness and pleasure. of course that had 4 more years age, but it costs the same and offers more. the ilatraia was one dimensional and ordinary dark western style overdone wine. the ragnaie was really enjoyable italian wine.

Popped and poured. A big bruiser of a wine-- intense nose of sweet blackberry fruit and licorice; palate of brambly fruit, mid-palate of spice. Schmidig's TN seems about right-- shares a profile with Cali cab-- and nothing wrong with this wine, but I did not get a sense that it was Italian, let alone Super Tuscan, and would have pegged it either as Cali or an Aussie cab blend.

Erster Eindruck: Ein Tanninmonster!
