Very enjoyable and very impressive considering the vintage rating. The nose is dominated by funk but not overwhelmed by it. Cassis, berry, and tobacco are present as well. Flavors of licorice, cassis, earth. Medium body with reasonable length on the finish. Considering the prices these days, good QPR ($41USD). If I had another bottle (alas, I don't), I'd drink it sooner vs. later.

Very soft cork with a moldy top but barely soaked bottom. Quite a bit of fine sediment in the bottle. Deep ruby red fading to dusty rose at the edge. Warm, mature nose of meat, black currants and blackberries trodden into the forest floor, lead pencil shavings, charcoal and blue plum skins on the nose. Nicely mature and savoury, but not overly layered or complex. Medium bodied at best, somewhat elevated acidity, stalky fruit and only the barest hint of fine tannins left behind. Similar flavours as on the nose with mature and savoury dried black fruits, black earth, compost, meat jus, dried straw and weak black tea. A bit light and lacking fruit or body on the mid palate, somewhat attenuated finish. At the end of its life for this off vintage. Probably just as well it's my last bottle. Drink up!

Kleur: Diep robijnrood. Time to check into this one again. Quite deeply coloured in the black raspberry range grading to garnet as it thins towards the edge. Merde, smoky mulberry, black currant leaf, light sandalwood, graphite and leather on the nose. Medium bodied, very smooth, well integrated acidity and a dry finish. The flavours are dark plum skin, black currant, suede and tree mulch. Still some powdery tannins on the finish that feels a bit dried out and somewhat astringent. Overall still quite tasty and surprisingly good for the vintage, although it is definitely starting to show its age.
Delicious. Both of us were cooing and cawing, and I literally didn't want to finish the glass for fear of ending the party. Medium ruby with just slight hints of bricking - lovely nose, not effusive, but alluring, classic, detailed - Very Bordeaux, just right, delicate in this vintage, and finely appointed. The experts pooh pooh these "off" vintages, but although they may not be as grand analytically as the bigger years, I'm not convinced that they don't actually give more pure pleasure. We've had a lot of very pleasurable '02, '04 and '07 Bordeaux. This wine was impeccably balanced, complex and nuanced, just plain awesome. Got better as the evening progressed, I wasn't just nursing it, more like treasuring it.
Thoroughly enjoyed this. The nose has red currant, mulberry, worn leather, crushed stone, cedar, tobacco, just a touch of vanilla, and hints of barnyard. The palate is fresh and energetic with nice balance, well integrated tannins, and while it lacks some depth through the middle that I would expect from a really good vintage, this is still lovely. I don't think it has the stuffing to age too much longer as the acidity may begin to overwhelm things once the fruit fades, but I think it is on a nice 3-5 year plateau right now.

Ruby bordering on garnet colour. Mulberries, camphor and slight cedar smoke on the nose. Sweet entry, medium bodied but really puts on weight in the glass becoming medium full. Juicy purple fruit with some savoury / meaty notes developing with time. Some tartness and tannins present on the finish. Good length. Nicely balanced. Very good - surprising for the vintage.

Drank this today to celebrate 2 birthdays at Asia Grand Restaurant.
Decanted for 3 hours followed by bottle breathing for an hour.
Purple in colour with notes of licorice, lacquer, blueberries, cedar wood, cassis, dark chocolate and leather. Some green notes are evident too.
The decanting took care of the tannins and encouraged the flavours to evolve. Well into its drinking window now although this wine can be kept for another 5 to 10 years.
The characteristics of this wine are different from the Medoc wines; one of my preferred labels from the Passac Leognan region.

Evolving nose of black fruits, cassis, tobacco and some spice. Not the most complex SHL, but tons of Pessac character and from the nose alone its obvious this wine is very well made.
Medium , body with some tannic structure and fresh acidity. Lots of black fruit and bit of tobacco and thyme on the palate. Medium plus finish.
Not the best SHL but an outstanding wine from a forgotten vintage. Considering the price/quality ratio I wish I had purchased more. Drink now or hold for 20 years if stored properly.

This improved a lot on Day 2, and was beautiful with cold, smoked chuck roast. Black currant dominates, and there is quite a bit of Graves character. A really nice effort for the tricky vintage.

Pessac-Leognan tasting: Warm, with sweet spices, overripe cassis and coffee aromas. Quite good intensity and I am surprised by the quality, as 2007 is one of the lesser good vintages after 2000. Palate is backed up by a decent amount of acidity. It is though dominated by ripe red fruit, paprika and rustic spices.

A pleasant surprise. Decanted for 2 hours. Palate dominated by bitter (almost burnt) dark chocolate. Tannins were nicely integrated and as others have noted, drinking lovely now. Wouldn't hold for much longer. A wine to sip, enjoy and ponder.

A pleasant surprise. While '07 wasn't the best vintage in Bordeaux, they are drinking great now and fully mature. While you are waiting for your '05's to mature... Drink your '07's. In the glass, this is a herbaceous, green wine with delicious tobacco, leather, bitter dark chocolate, earthy funk, dusty blackberries, and pure Bordeaux excellence. No possible way you would call this anything else than from Pessac. Tannins are resolved, round, and smooth. Herbaceous nose is also present on the finish. A nice wine, but drink now... Won't get any better with age unless you want it to lose its fruit.

Very green on the nose, with more on the palate. Some black fruit towards the finish, but more earth driven. Not bad but a far cry from other vintages of SHL.

A very pleasant surprise given the young age. Encouraging aromatics of damp leather, spent coffee grounds, and gravelly Pessac soil. In the mouth the tannins are still big and cabernet fruit predominates, but there is softer side that emerges after 90+ minutes. New oak, but not offensively so and already integrating just fine. A solid bottle of wine for a young, middle-of-the-road Bordeaux vintage, a little big to pop and pour just now but pleasant after a bit of decanting.

Westchester Wine School: Pessac Leognan Tasting (White Plains, NY): Drank blind at WWS Pessac tasting vs a 1998 SHL that I provided. It was obvious on sight, nose and palate which wine was which. The 2007 had bright fruit, good spiciness, a slight savory quality. The juicy, fairly sweet fruit was dominant here which made it apparent that this was the younger of the 2 wines. Somewhat tannic, though not disturbingly so. Nice flavor of cloves on the finish. Drinking nicely now, but could do with further bottle age which will hopefully make it a more balanced wine.

Amazing how the better 2007 BDX come around the corner when reaching their drinking window. This SHL 2007 really is a bargain, as I bought it during arrivage of the 2007 when lots of merchants discounted this vintage. At around 40 bucks a bottle you get superset tannins with a milky texture. Mocca, tobacco. Of course there is quite a lot acidity and you feel how it evolves on your gustatory sensors, but just in that moment the softness of wine making in perfection (SHL is in my opinion one of the most skilled chateau in this area) comes in and guarantees you a fine finish that melts on your tongue.
Perhaps it could be a strategy to buy the best wines of bad vintages when it comes down to great value for private consumption :-)

Really expressive on the nose: Dark fruit, sweet spices, tobacco, some forest notes. Not quite as convincing on the palate, nevertheless good structure, not too much fruit, spicy, good grip, quite open but slightly tart and drying. Decent finish. This can be enjoyed now and over the next couple of years but I doubt it will get much better. 88-90

Grenat profond tirant sur le violacé. Très dense. Assez lourd.

Mint, cassis, tobacco, and cigar box scents. Similar palate of dark, earthy fruit and spice, foliage and wood. Not as expressive as the nose and not developing in the glass. Balanced and tight with nice acidity and a medium tannic finish. Good but I've had better Smiths.

Tasted at a merchant dinner. Medium ruby. Expressive nose of smoke, flint stone, earth and forest, very much graves. On the palate nice and soft with good balance. This may not be very deep as most 2007 but this vintage proves to be very drinkable and pleasant because there are no harsh edges.

Appearance: Bright and clear, it is of deep intensity ruby color, with thin garnet rims and legs. Nose: Clean, with medium (+) intensity aromas of black fruit such as blackcurrant and blackberry, kernel notes of chocolate, pungent spice of licorice, oak notes of cedar, maturity notes of savory and tobacco. The wine is developing. Palate: Dry with medium acidity, the wine has medium (+) tannin, a bit bitter and silky in texture. Medium in alcohol, it has medium (+) body with medium intensity flavors of black fruit such as blackberry and cassis, oak notes of cedar, pungent spice of licorice, maturity notes of cigar box. The wine has a medium finish. Conclusion: Good quality Pessac-Leognan with a nose that shows good concentration after opening for two hours, with plenty of different aromas showing good complexity, the wine is elegant with a good structure, a bit bitter on the tannin which probably can be due to the vintage. The palate has nevertheless reasonable intensity and complexity, and finishing with a good length. The wine is ready to drink now but can benefit from further ageing of another 2-3 years.

a rather powerfull nose: Cassis (with some red fruit thrown in), cedarwood, coffe, tobacco and oak. an elegant wine with sleak body but firm tannins (like bordeaux should be ;) taste not as powerfull as the nose but really nice, its drinking well now but will probebly age well for another 8-10 years. with the 07 vintage in mind this is excellent stuff.

Drinkable wine, but nothing else. If this wine were $10 I would not buy it, I prefer a $10 Chilean wine than this bottle. It was not an "off" bottle, it is just a style that I do not like at all. 5 out of 5 we decided this was dead last among the 4 wines we were drinking.

Klar, dyp, mørk rød. God intensitet på nese med mørke, modne bær og innslag av lær og treverk. Slank, men kompakt frukt med god konsentrasjon og modning. Frisk syre. Mild sødme. Bløte tanniner. Fin lengde. Flott vin fra en ustødig årgang.

Tasted at the Chateau at the end of a tour. What it struck me most at first is how evolved it already showed on the nose: tertiary characters of tobacco, cigar box, gamey notes, caramel (it has spent 18 months in barrel, with a high portion of new oak), upholstered by some dark fruits. Medium plus acidity, which is in line with many wines from this vintage. Medium plus tannins. Drink now, at peak. Can hold for another 5 years, but most likely won't improve much.

Opened the bottle 2 hours before serving. It showed milky coffee, cocoa aroma and spicy pepper, blackcurrant and blackberry taste. Finished with vanilla note. Average performance only and lack of complexity. Performance dropped and became highly acidic after 3 hours. Poor vintage characteristic.

Le Salon du Vin de la Revue du Vin de France 2012 (Brussels): The nose is delicate and more open than you would expect at this time; water mint, tobacco and some cedar. A somewhat to flabby Bordeaux for my taste. The nose was classic with dark berries, ceder and a hint of oak but the pallet was to jammy and a bit overdone. The tannins was soft but still very present and the wine can probably get better with time but I’m am not impressed with this one I must say.

Popped and poured. Quite dark in the glass. Classic bordeaux nose of dark fruit, spices. Taste is a bit awkward, starting with fruit then fading quickly. Soft tannins makes it approachable already. Medium bodied, medium finish. Not particularly interesting.

Dark purple color that fades to a ruby red edge with a silver lining on the rim. Very fragrant nose of raspberry, oak, blueberry and tobacco. The palate is very strong and piercing with loads of mineral, dark cherries, and spice that seemingly wrap around the edges all the way to the long, mineral-filled finish. Meanwhile, the core seems light and slightly hollow. Still tannic for now, but will drink well between 2014 to 2025.

CellarTracker Bordeaux Trip; 5/23/2011-5/26/2011 (Bordeaux, France): Big nose, showing copious amounts of smoky oak, along with dark plum, cherry, tar, and black pepper. The palate displays a lot of black plum, along with black cherry, blackberry, currant, dates, and more smoky oak. There was a lot of smoke character on both the nose and palate, which apparently is a characteristic that mostly comes from the terroir. Medium acidity, with a slight amount of fine tannins. Medium finish, ending with a note of black plum. Good.

-- tasted a single glass non-blind over 5 – 10 minutes --
NOSE: mocha coffee; background wash of leather; not complex.
TASTE: quite approachable; non-descript (tight?) red/purple fruits; austere; good acid-tannin balance, but I worry there’s not enough fruit to last; 12.5% alc. I wasn’t really taken by this wine. Gut impression: 85

CT Bordeaux Trip, Day 2 (Graves & Sauternes): Not the best wine we had on the day, but this was pretty good. Some mocha hints formed the backdrop for lovely cassis and plum scents, some earth and sprigs of herb, tobacco leaf and smoke. A lovely nose. The attack on the palate was marked by clean, clear acidity which went really well with the wine's ripe, fleshy cassis and black cherry fruit. This was seasoned with some wood spice and smoky hints at the finish. This did not have the depth of raw-material of few of the top 2007s that we had, but it was well balanced, nicely integrated, with fine tannins and a good amount of substance and length for the vintage. I really enjoyed this. Should show well in the short to mid-term.

Dark blue. Mocha, coffee and deeply concentrated fruit and power on the nose. Quite soft already and not that much tannins. Long taste although with a refreshing acidity at the end. Should peak in 5-7 years but is enjoyable already now.

I'd say that 2007 isn't a complete write off with Rouge Bordeaux (E.g. this wine).
The nose is classic BDX; subtle fruits and a touch of earth, smoke/charcoal. Very juicy flavors of cassis and berry. This has a fair amount of oak and tannins but by no means too much. Overall, this is a very balanced wine and though there's room for improvement, its satisfying right now. Well done Monsieur et Madame Cathiard.

Rather compact dark red, with brighter red edge. In the nose barnyard and spicy aromas of blackcurrant and dark plum, possibly some truffle? Obviously spicy on the palate, a bit more than medium bodied, the slightest hint of alcoholic heat (a slightly ”Spanish” hint?), quite tannic but with ”polished” tannins for a young Cabernet dominated Bordeaux. 90-91 p. A ”foody” wine, perhaps slightly less elegant than Beychevelle 2007 (tasted alongside) in its aromas, but very well made, and again proves how reliable this château is. Quite young, but reasonably approachable already for those with a ”young” taste.

Lots of oak. Pretty good depth. I don't know what "mouthfeel" means but I think it has good mouthfeel. Nice rich deep purple/ruby color. Perhaps a little hard to assess because of the oak, but the nose seems otherwise impressive. On the palate it is round and soft, light on its feet, if not profound. Not a real big finish but it tweaks the tastebuds pleasantly at the back of the mouth. Again, depends what you want to pay for it: At the $40 I got it for, I'll be happy to have another bottle or two in the cellar. At $60, I'll pass.

Informal tasting note- tasted over a family dinner.
I thought this was a classic example of a great producer in an off year. Not a blockbuster but very well made with lots of Pessac typicity.
Drink up!

Medium Ruby appearance.

The nose is classic BDX; subtle fruits and a touch of earth, smoke/charcoal. Very juicy flavors of cassis and berry. This has a fair amount of oak and tannins but by no means too much.
