couldn't say no to the price of this bottle. I wasn't expecting much, but I was pleasantly surprised.
This wine has life and tons of it. Dark red coloring with rust edges. It most definitely needs air. After 45 minutes to an hour, this wine shows vibrant red cherries, wood, and cocoa.
On the palate, this wine initially showed little fruit and strong burnt wood notes, but after the right amount of air time, it opened up to red cherries, dried red fruit, leather, and earth floor, which got stronger and stronger. That initial burnt-wood taste didn't disappear but faded as the other notes grew.
I initially thought this bottle was a dud. But the more air it got, the better it became. After the cork was pulled, this wine had almost no tannins and little acidity. After 90 minutes, it became young again. Mouth-puckering tannins with great balanced acidity
This bottle doesn't have the accolades to make heads turn on the shelf, but if you are able to come across it, I highly recommend it. An affordable Margaux with 23 years of age. It's worth the risk!
It was a great experience that I wasn't expecting when I pulled the cork. One of the many great reasons why we all love wine!

Experience similar to bottle tasted on 8/24/2022. Just adding another note to say how remarkable the last few years have been in the development of this wine. The cork crumbled in half but the bottom came out cleanly. This had a very rich bouquet and very dark color. Again medium bodied but seemed even sweeter than the last bottle. Some black pepper in the tannin, which remains supportive. Well balanced, vital, and really a strong experience of well-aged claret. Very rewarding, cellaring this one for the past 20 or 18 years.

Surprised I don't already have a note on hear about this wine. This would be bottle #10 of a case purchased close to release, if not as a future. This was certainly a very old school, high, tight and light wine for many years. Pretty sure the last bottle or two have shown like tonights, which is a nice demonstration that even some, or perhaps many, cru bourgeois, if that's still a term that is allowed, produced in a classic style, will reward ageing. Some deep cherry scents leavened with old, dry wood and then a whiff of confectioner's spun sugar. Medium bodied at most (some would say I am being generous) and the flavors track the bouquet. Finishes well, lightly tannic, lightly acidic, and persistent. A food wine, and isn't that the point? Good stuff, will open those other two bottles on the anniversary +/- of this, or when someone wants to try a well-aged claret.

A disappointing bottle from WineBid.com. It was claimed that the consignor was the original owner, and that it was removed from a proper storage facility, but a bottle with only a couple more than a dozen years to its name was eaten up with VA.
12.5% alcohol. Bright ruby color, with no orange at the rim of the glass. A youthful, lovely nose of cool currant fruit, cigar box, and spice. In the mouth, just the picture of Margaux elegance. Pretty, forward fruit, central focus on cigar box/tobacco complexity, and good acidity, with moderate tannic bite at the end. This has integrated really nicely and is drinking beautifully. Easily can go another five years. A-

first of a mixed case of 2000s, starting from Cru up to Angelus (which we will hold a long while). This is all about dusty cherries. Dusty cherry on the nose, dusty cherry on the palate, lingering aftertaste to dusty cherries. Full, round with just that little hint of aspirin on the finish to remind you that it's a Bordeaux. Really in a good place right now. Wish I'd bought a case!

Sveta's Bday Bash at Prune: was worried with all the "over the hill" notes - but no issues here! (my cellar is a bit colder than most) This is lovely - young even. Great nose of cassis and pencil. ripe mid with black fruit and a hint of herb. bright acidity and still a bit of a tannic grip on the finish. lovely mature BDX... def my favorite red tonight and - it was the fastest drained bttl even though it was 3rd to be opened.

Maybe in slight decline but still showing classic claret qualities, lots of leather, a bit of cassis, a touch of forest floor, dust. Tannins slightly outweigh the fruit. But enjoyable with a simple prime rib.

Agree with the other comments -- more acid than fruit. Lots of vegetal flavors. Great structure, but uninspiring. If you have some, drink with food -- a big meal like Pot Roast and the wine will do well. But it's not very interesting otherwise.

Not ready on day 1 (super tight and didn't improve with the decant). But it was gone by day 2. I'll wait a couple of years to open the other bottle -- but not too hopeful. Disappointing, so far.

Did not decant and was unimpressive on first opening. Much improved on day 2 with sweet floral perfume, tobacco and cigar box nose. Plum character, with spiced and sprinkled Christmas cookies; nice body, yielding tanins and a fairly long, but not overpowering finish. I enjoyed this wine.

Really excellent - classic Margaux fragrance with cassis, red fruits and flowers. Dense and fleshy fruit, showing some development but still young and quite a lot of tannin on the finish as it opens in the decanter. Delicious and serious wine.

You can't always believe what you read. Those of you that have consumed your last bottle of this wine believing it was shot go read about the latest Parker108 point review on a Mollydooker something or other. You'll be happy not to read the rest of this review.
OK, I assume if you're reading this you still have some of this wine in your cellar. Good move. Although I usually don't agree with Spectator reviews on Bordeaux, it appears they got this one right. This is a perfect example of a wine that's been in a "dumb phase". We all went to Jr. High School with a flat chested plain looking girl with glasses and a mouth full of metal. That's where this wine has been. It's just starting, however, to emerge from it's cocoon to spread its wings to become the beautiful butterfly it was destined to be.
Upon opening the wine was very closed and thin, revealing very little. I got neither white asparagus or Mr. Bubbles; I guess Mom had drained the tub. About 1 year ago I bought a Ventouri; this looked like a perfect time to see what it could do. All I can say is breathing a little life into this wine did wonders..... it came alive with twinkles in its eyes. I still have several bottles in the cellar; I would give the wine untill 2010 before opening.
They say patience is a virtue. For those of you willing to wait just a bit longer I believe you will find yourself amply rewarded. Even the great Mr. Vaynerchuk can be mistaken on ocassion.

Very nice, classic Bordeaux-style aromatics, and soft tannins, but fairly thin and short. Definitely won't overpower your meal, and a great "quaffer", but not particularly inspiring in its own right. I'm surprised RP was so fond of this. P.S. Surprisingly good the second night.

Saturated garnet color. Moderate aromatic evident with a little swirling. A very cassis and herbal driven profile on the nose. The mouthfeel was full and chewy with a slightly briary tannic quality that was suitable given the slightly rustic feel of this cru bourgeois. A very good wine from the 2000 vintage that is drinking well now and will probably keep for a little while as well.

A reasonable claret. Nose was just fine. Tannins in check. Finish short. The wine impressed me as being a bit thin -- not very rich. Can't imagine that it will improve after markedly with more time. Nevertheless, it is a 2000, so I will let a few bottles sit.

A pleasant nose of tar, mushroom, and muted blackberry are tightly wound up by a palate of short sour cherry and leather notes. Finish is quick, with drying tannins. I would think this would unwind a bit more and flesh out, but I'm not sure the midpalate is there.

2nd time I have had this Cru Bourgeois wine from Margaux. The cepage in this wine is 63% Merlot, 22% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Petit Verdot and 5% Cabernet Franc which is not what you would expect from a Left Bank wine. My least favorite of the 4 2000 Bordeaux at this event. The tannins seemed to be a little less prevalent than when I had this over a year ago but the wine had a moldy character to it. Give it time. 86-87 points.

Nice wine and good typicity. Not overly ripe or fruity for the vintage and still a bit unyielding, though air helps. Medium weight with faint herbal notes and some cedar. In short, fairly classic and a good value, especially if purchased on release.

Dark ruby. Finely detailed, moderately intense black cherries, currant, cedar and lead pencil aroma. Very young on the palate. Fine red currant, cranberry, cedar, cinnamon and black cherry fruits, but substantial tannins clamp down mid-palate. Moderate bodied, juicy with good balancing acidity, this needs more time and isn't too complex yet.

5 years and still too young. Deep purple/black in the glass, decanted but still all muscle. Dusty dry at first sip and almost all tannins. The nose is deep and lush with fruit, but hard to coax. This still needs 3+ years, but it is hard to believe it will taste like it is from Margaux. Hard to rate, but high 80s on tannins alone and 2 or 3 thrown in for hope the fruit will shine through.

Dark garnet red in the glass. Appealing nose of blackcurrants, cigar box, some subtle cedar bark, and floral notes. The palate is flush with cassis fruit, earthy monster tannins, and solid acidity. The finish is very long and powerful at this point. In total, I think this wine has awesome potential, but is still very primary and needs a solid 3 years+ in bottle before it'll show reasonably well. Right now, it can only be appreciated for its raw muscle.

Hard as nails even after decanting and time in the glass. I find all of the atribuites of the 2000 vintage in the wine, balance freshness and lots of tannin. This needs 7-10 years in the bottle.

Acidity seems to be dominating more now than previously. Either the fruit are already fading, or there is bottle variation...or both. Drink now.

Nice and mature but not memorable or long.. just a nice drink and I think it cost under $20 so well worth it. Nice change from cote du rhones and fair for the price.

Nose - barnyard, dried leaves, some subtle cherry, cigar. Taste - this might have faded a bit, tasting more acid than fruit, lots of cigar, oak, bramble fruit, rather light but still in balance.almost pinot like

Thought this was going to be in a good place based on the notes....Popped and poured, and the overwhelming smell was of cork. It never went away, and on the palate this was just harsh. Ces la vie, but it was my last bottle.

opened at 3.30 PM. first sniff was funky barnyard (in a good way) cigar box, sweet roses. Taste of plum, very complex, sweet dark fruits, very finese (margaux trait) very light bodied, short on finish. Very tasty through dinner.

Silky and refined. Raspberry, earth, and a red currant kind of acidity providing a nice backbone. Nicely done and just now entering its drinking window. What a great QPR. Decant 2 hr.

Classic Bordeaux. Nice on the nose, which set up expectations that were not met on the palate. Awkward tinniness on the finish.

3rd time I have had this. Opened for in Michigan. Not decanted. Pleasant nose with some lead pencil shavings. Medium bodied. The tannins were soft. This 2000 is entering it's drinking window. Consistent flavors with previous tastings. Notes of red berries and herbs. 87 points.

A decent enough wine if a bit on the thin side and still quite tannic. Not a whole lot of fruit.. a little currant and cherry but mostly notes of cedar and a little tobacco. Very short finish.
