Very nice! 1hr+ decant. Dark red color. Prime drinking time. Nose has dark cherries, coconut, and cedar. Wine is deep and extremely smooth. Medium finish. Classic Napa Cab!

1hr+ decant. Medium red color. Started out great but faded fairly quickly. Had an initial resemblance to good Bordeaux but ended up more like the ‘10 Domaine Eden Cab. Lacked some fruit and was high in tannins, acidity, and tartness. Ironically it went well with smoked pork chops. Definitely past prime.

I’ve always been a bit skeptical of this label given its anointment and status as a “cult wine” and its prominence on most high end restaurant wine lists. Quite surprisingly, I’ve got to bow and give the “devil his due”...after thirteen years, this is holding very well, showing no signs of fading. Balanced, red fruits, still lots of structure, demonstrative, lengthy, and lots of complexity. Can drink now, but this can cellar for another 4-5 years. Kudos.

Cakebread continues to impress, especially for its price point. Well-integrated, chewy with dark, earthy fruit and solid finish. This vintage still has legs for probably 1-2 years more before peaking.

Simply awesome. My allergies are deadening my sense of smell but I get dark earth, wet leaves and a hint of oak, tannins are de minimums and the black fruit shines through. Long luscious finish. Served with grilled filet mignonette.

For those that have said this wine is past its prime, I disagree. This was full-bodied, woody and wonderful on the palate. We are glad we let this age a bit longer as it definitely had deep fruit notes and was delicious. It has definitely gotten more bold over the years.

2007 cab really smoothed out nicely. Still has flavor of dark fruits, vanilla, and some licorice. Drank over 2 hours and was sorry to see it go. I would recommend drinking what you have in the next couple years.

Surprised me how good this one. Still has several more years left on it. Upon opening their was some funk on the nose, but it was a good funk. Very well integrated. Much better than the 2006 I had a few months ago.

Had a taste right after decant. Black fruit with big dust on the finish. With limited air, this was starting to open up in the glass bringing out more cherry and red fruit with some tobacco and a smoother finish. Would have liked to have had a taste an hour later.

1 hour decant. Similar to the bottle in August 2015. Blackberry, cherry, cassis, tobacco, graphite, and perhaps a bit of dusty mulberry. The tannins in this bottle were perhaps a bit more dry than smooth. Still, in a great place.

Starting to round into form. Dark purple. The fruit is moving towards center stage with blackberry, cassis, cherry, herbs, tobacco, and a pronounced mineral streak. Tannins have largely resolved. Elegant rather than powerful. 1 hr decant.

Brick in color, with a very strong fruit nose of blackberry and rasberry. The tannins are well resolved and the wine is just delicious. I don't know if this is the sort of bottle that will "improve" much with more age, because it is in a great spot right now with the integration of the tannins.

A wonderful wine. Could/should have held another 3-5 years. Dark cocoa initially, with wonderful red and black cherries on the nose, very well balanced acidity and alcohol.

High-toned aromas of cherries, red currants, pencil shavings, chocolate, sandalwood, and tree bark. The palate is assertive, yet displays clarity, length, and youthful vigor on a beautifully structured, full-bodied frame. A deep layered core of fruit and spice is supported by youthful tannins that stick with you on the compelling finish. Excellent now but will improve in the cellar.

Very ripe and lush fruit. Candied raspberry, ripe strawberry, black cherry. White pepper in a medium acidity midpalate, finish is still lightly tannic. Perfect in 2-5 years.

Straight out of the bottle is instant goodness. This is a great wine and reminds me of how the first bottle of Cakebread was over 8 years ago. First impression is smooth and velvety on your tongue. Flavors hit the top and sides of the tongue. Some cherry, some tobacco. I pick up what I like to call bark....that little bit of woodsy bitter?

Medium garnet red, clear and bright with pink hue in the rim. Upon opening, aromas of rich, dark fruit, sweet oak, carmel, green beans, green pepper and a hint of solvent. The wine was tight so allowed it to breath for 1 hour before tasting. Flavors of black pepper, tart red fruit and tar. As the wine continued to open up, the fruit continued to come forward, but never reached a focal point. Tannins were surprisingly apparent, yet somewhat refined. The bottle at significant sediment at the end so decanting is recommended. Good wine with roast meats.

Dense, opaque, ruby color with pink halo, showing rather young age. Nose confirms age, with secondary aromas, fresh fruit giving way to a more mature , vinous character with an overlay of acidity and oak. Medium-full body, softned but not yet silky texture, tight-knit flavor, at times grapey, dark red berries, cherry, more oak, lingering sweetly into a fruity but balanced finish.

Revisiting this after more than a year, I find it to be in a good place now, but with considerable life remaining and probably not yet at its peak. Tannins have softened considerably but there's still plenty of structure and the dark fruit really has its chance to shine. It's a little grape-y on the finish, and I think this will mellow out with time. Looking forward to seeing how the rest of these develop over the next few years. My scores have been all over the map on this (due to what I assume has been bottle variation), but count this one solidly in the 91-92 range for me.

This one is just starting to hit it's stride.... nice round fruit flavors... dark berries, blueberry, sweet cherries... tannins are still very much in place but nicely integrated into the wine.. finished is long and complex with the fruits and spices mixing well.... wish I had another to rest awhile longer.

Bouquet of cassis, vanilla, and pie crust. Soft and ripe integrated tannins with deep flavors of black fruits....currant, blueberries. No need for food, it is a meal itself. Lots of oak influence, drink up soon.

Good wine, but not as good as I remembered. Started to open right out of the bottle but then closed for at least one hour while aerating. Oak, dark berries and spice on the nose and the palate. Long finish, but felt a little out of balance. Maybe needs more time in the decanter.

Good wine but didn't love it and was expecting a little more from such a well-known Napa cab - especially a 2007. Decanted for about 2 hours. On the nose - dark fruit, bit of spice, and alcohol. It drinks a little disjointed, but there is still some power in there and improved with more time in the glass. Finish was good but not great - charred oak, black licorice, bit of heat that I didn't like. Overall, I did like it, but would probably give this a pass as there is so much better in the same price range.

It smells like Black currant (cassis), Blackberry, Cherry, and Vanilla.Thede aromas are very faint It tastes like a hint of Oak, and with some dark Cherry. The body is Medium. The wine has Leathery texture. The wine finishes Medium. I would have expected more from this wine, especially being from the 2007 vintage.

Drank from a magnum. Solid napa cab from 07. This wine has nice balance which is sometimes hard to find in napa. If you want an over-the-top fruit bomb, this is not your bottle. Very enjoyable wine.

My favorite term--a crowd pleaser! If we just play down to the lowest common denominator and not offend anyone, it must be great--right?? Wrong. Here is my opinion. This wine has a great nose at first. Blue, black, and red fruit abound. But then what...nothing to ponder. No earth, no terroir, maybe a little vanilla from the oak. Kind of boring. Let's taste it. It tastes quite good. Again, blue, black, and red fruit are dancing in a fun little party. Tasty. No off flavors. I can't really think of what else I should type. This is boring. Well made, overpriced, boring. SAFE. Blanketed by the warmth of mediocrity. For 10 bucks, I'll buy a case. Oh, I paid WHAT for this? Done.

Sampled 6/27/12. Just goes to show what a great vintage year can accomplish for even the lowest tier labels for a producer. Plenty of black and red fruits, a little spice, nice acidity. A simple wine that is perfectly acceptable at its pricepoint.

Abe & Arthur's Steakhouse, NYC. P&P, two bottles, consistent impression. Color vibrant cherry red with some dark tones, medium-full body. Bouquet was unfortunately restrained despite much swirling. I should have insisted on decant, but they didn't seem inclined. Classic aromas of black currant, black cherry, blackberry, vanilla, and a touch of cinnamon. On the palate, smooth and delicious dark cherries the slightest touch sweet, dark berries, a little mocha. Fruit forward and with silky texture backed by moderate fine tannins. Nice depth of fruit helps carry this into a medium finish. Overall, Exc/Outs based on flavors, texture and finish as a well made Cali-cab, but I agree with other notes that it was lacking in complexity and not particularly memorable. For me certainly worth 35-40, but the typical retail is 20 above that, and at the restaurant charge of over 100 a bottle was a kick in the money clip.

Really a great and archtypical Napa cab, every year a reliable and very good wine from a top notch producer. Very dark, big, full bodied, long juicy lingering aftertaste, built for the long haul with an easy 10-15 years of cellaring life left. Reasonably balanced at this point but I do expect improvement including better balance with time and do expect a corresponding increase in scores. This wine was popped and poured with dessert following a dinner of grilled elk meat tenderloin last night with a group of friends and I would recommend at least an hour decant as this really improved with time and aeration in the glass. Big dark fruitforward nose with blackberry and dark fruit. Primary flavors included cassis, terroir, dark fruit and oak with a hint of a lighter vanilla / minty note right at the end. I highly recommend this wine but given the price point this is not any kind of a good QPR wine - however, you get what you pay for, just an outstanding effort.

This is the way I think a good California Cabernet should taste. Cassis, earth, dark berries on the nose. Blackberries, cassis, a little green veggies, and a little vanilla on the palate. Juicy, well balanced, solid, and a good finish. Delicious. I just wish it was about $20 less. Will try to find more.

Dark purple solid to rim; lovely floral notes with blackberry and cassis and a slight oak touch; mouth has good acidity, balanced alcohol, good black cherry, cassis, and light leather-pencil lead, and a drop of licorice with a black loamy character. Really well balanced, nice supple tannins. Classic very good Napa cab.

Very good all around, but nothing that gets me too excited. Mainstream, very typical, but well made California Cabernet with lots of redk/dark fruit, vanilla, oak etc. nice body, medium finish. Technically everything is there, butl the lack of character and complexity makes it unremarkable nevertheless.

My wife is much more impressed by this than I am. Very good, very Napa, very New World in style: fruit driven, approachable, well integrated tannic structure, long finish. Not very complex, but still young. It's drinking well right now.. There's a lot to like if you're a Cabernet lover, except of course, the price!

This is the best Cakebread Cab I have had since the 90's. Great dark color, complex nose. On the tongue it had lots of black fruits with vanilla and a hint (just the right amount) of oak. Good balance with medium long finish. Had at Sullivan's Steakhouse. Followed this bottle with an '08 Caymus (which was actually preferred by all over Cakebread). But this is a great Cab and I am glad I have a few of these in the cellar as I believe they will continue to improve.

In spite of having enjoyed hundreds of bottles of California Cabernet over the years, this was my first Cakebread Cabernet Napa experience. Very good high quality Cab, that exhibits the typical Cabernet profile: blackcurrant, blackberry, black cherry and some creamy oak. I would best characterize this wine as being approachable, smooth, rounded, fruit forward and creamy. I can understand why it's gained "cult" status; however, IMHO there are far better Cabernets on the market with a much better QPR. Very easy to drink, but not terribly complex at this juncture.

WHAT CAN i SAY I DONT THINK CAKEBREAD IS ABLE TO MAKE A BAD BOTTLE OF WINE, WINERY IS VERY CONSISTENT YEAR AFTER YEAR. THIS SHOULD BE CONSIDERED THE CABERNET TO RATE ALL OTHER BOTTLES BY IN A POSITIVE OR NEGATIVE DIRECTION.

This absolutely surpassed my expectations, and have to agree with the bordeaux tilting reviews. This is in no way a fruit bomb, and instead has a complex flvor profile and impressive winemaking. There is oak, acidity, red and black fruits, all in judicious balance, equal parts lush and smokiness. Very nice mouthfeel as well, but lacks the density and prolonged finish to compete with top wines. However, at the $60 level I'm not complaining at all, this is very relevant and maybe one of the leaders in this class. 92-94 points

This was my first "Big Time" napa cab. By that I mean a wine that costs over $60. Everyone that knows wine or is new to wine reads about Cakebread Cellars. I tried this wine and the first thing that hit me was that this was a complete package wine. between smell and taste everything seemed to mesh and it clicked that this was what a quality wine tastes like. A great experiene and also a great first bottle of exemplary Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. Cheers
Complex nose of beef, orange peel, pine needles, and curry. Not an overly long finish. Terrific balance and mouthfeel. Cocoa and blackberries. This wine kept evolving over several hours, particularly on the nose. A bit expensive for what it is but boy do I love this style.

Popped and tasted a lot of young tangy fruits...quite acidic but good....but when the steak came, it worked harmoniously. Full bodied deep mouthfeel with some cocoa and very dark ripe fruits. Evolved very quickly and surprisingly turned earthy and muddy. The only thing missing was the finish...I thought with the strong heavy mids and soft tannins. it would follow through with a long finish. Unfortunately, finish was a bit weak. It didn't have consistent structure....constantly changing. Probably needs more breathing or decanting. Nevertheless, still very enjoyable.

Tried at tasting. On the nose alone, this wine gets a 93-94. Vanilla and currant jumped out of the glass. However, the taste was a bit lacking given the nose and the cakebread reputation. I know this is young, but I just felt like something was missing in mid-palate to finish area. Once that awkward part was over, the finish was quite nice. I enjoyed it, but I would not buy a bottle of it.

Delicious Cab that finally showed the restraint I've been looking for. This "anti-fruit bomb" was balanced and silky. Not the most complex wine but certainly a pleasure to drink. Have had equal quality at half the price. Drank two bottles at Eddie V w/ Terry and Diego.

Tasty, but a bit overpriced - it's fairly primary and although I tend to like a restrained cab, this just didn't bring enough to the table to merit a big score. It's well made, it's really tasty, but it's not complex.

Tasted this tonight at a work event. ( Emily and Joeby were great!!) and at first thought it much more complex than my favorite sequoia grove cab.. After decant from 6:30... After a 2nd tasting at 11.. It has not opened up more and seems to have list VOCs and is still tannic .. I like but not at price point! Thoughts ?

87% cab. well, the name of the tasting is "big reds" so, what can you do? however, this stood out a bit. i thought there was good balance and some restraint with the wood. it's a little pricey ($64), but label lovers will likely be happy.

Huge fan of Cakebread Cab but I have to say -- this one didn't blow me away. What I found most noticeable about it was the length of finish. I took my first sip and then walked out of the house to go move some cars around for guests who were coming over. I could still taste the wine 90 seconds later. I think this bodes well for future progress on the wine but for now it's just very good, not outstanding. I'll try to hold off on drinking another bottle of this 07 until 2012.

A strong showing for this wine. Rich, full-bodied Napa Cab but it manages to stay fresh and avoids being over-the-top. Lovely flavors of bitter chocolate and ripe cassis with firm tannins. Hard to stop drinking this even for a fan of more elegant European-styled wines like myself.
Violet purple. Stewed dark red fruits with a little creaminess and alcohol showing. Soft on the tongue with some alcohol heat but good acidity follows and leads to a drier mineral finish. Interesting swing from nose to palate. Promises to age well.

Done.

I know this is young, but I just felt like something was missing in mid-palate to finish area. Once that awkward part was over, the finish was quite nice. California Cab Tasting, USQ Wines; 11/10/2010-11/12/2010 (New York): Slightly funky/earthy/muddy note on the nose, together with some pleasing fruit. A bit bitter on the palate, fairly strong fruit flavors with a touch of figgy pruniness. 89-90

Good at the opening but got better after a few hours in the bottle. Will sit on the remaing bottles of the case, as I know it will be better in time. Still very good now.
