Dinner at Tortello (Chicago, IL): My favourite nebbiolo of the night -- this is just hitting its stride, with clean red fruit, and plenty of youthful nebbiolo structure. Still feels like there's upside here, but for drinking now I really like the overall balance. In contrast to the 1988 Rabaja, this started to clamp down over the course of the evening, to the point you were getting a lot of tannic intensity on the finish.

Besøk av broderen. PnP forsiktig moden lukt, litt stikkende. Lite smak. Opp 1 poeng. Trenger luft. From a Barbaresco tasting with Giacosa Barbaresco Falletto 1998, Gaja Barbaresco 2010, and the following wines from Produttori di Barbaresco: Montefico 2008, Montestefano 2009, Pora 2008, Paje 2008. Clear brown with a fine red core. Tobacco, nuts, some roses, and fine tones of cherry verging on dried cherries. Medium to full bodied attack, then the tannins kick in on the midpalate almost numbing the senses. When the dryness fades out a citrusy freshness emerges together with lots of dried fruit like dates and prunes. Tobacco and iron and warm earth emerges in the aftertaste where there also is a whiff of alcohol warmth. Long and dry aftertaste. This has kept well and is at a perfect stage right now. Will not get better so drink up.

Amazing how well these delvelop. Still good grip with noticable tannins. Nose fresh with mature dark red fruit /berries and slight touch of tobacco. Quite a decent amount of sediment so treat with care when serving. If anything at peak, but think will remain here for a while.

Slightly oxidised, distinct notes of sherry on nose and end. These vanished overnight. Otherwise incredibly smooth, with a good body and nice fruit and tobacco, coffee, especially the next day. This bottle is definitely on the down, glad we caught it before it tipped over.

Very lovely barb. Rusty red, good nose of cherry, roses, some Smokey tar. It is still fresh and correct, lots of ripe and mature fruit, well rounded acidity attacks the palate before it widens out in a nice spectrum of tart, red berries, raspberry and some currant. Quite long. Excellent wine in its prime drinking window.

Decanted for 3 hours. Opaque bricky ruby. Nose of plum blossom, full rose petal, somewhat searing tar, soy, camphor, saline. Palate revealed layers of delicious plum fruit, tarry earth, sweet grip, and resinous texture. Fresh acidity and serious but filed off tannin. Long finish of earthy red plum, tar, deep soil, and exquisite grip. Quite excellent now, could age for years.

Watching Sunday Night Football (Eagles vs Cowboys) with Walter. Pnp Medium red in color. Bouquet of violets and some kirsch. Certainly cherries on the palate, but I also get some pomegranate. Initially a bit chalky, but this blew off over time as the wine put on weight. A bit of tannin still remains. Seems youthful and will likely remain good for years to come. Nice foil for my rigatoni Bolognese. Never very inexpensive, but I love Produttori for its QPR.

Lively nose with red fruits and spice. Medium bodied, silkier and with more red fruits, structurally more forbidding with firm blocky tannins, dense and unyielding. Acid. End note of tar, briar. Juicy. With 24 hrs: more dark fruits, some mint notes emerge. Approach next bottle in 5 years?

From 750: Complex nose of tar, alcohol, underbrush, and perhaps rose petal. Palate shows considerable fruit, although tannin still dominates. Better with food (although in fairness it had now been open for more than an hour).Good acidity and a nice finish. I expect that a few more years in the bottle will pay off in spades. Certainly no hurry to drink up.

Terrific, but still young and will be so much better in five years. Right now, the edges are have softened only slightly and the palate is still very youthful and ripe, with vibrant red cherry and berry fruits, lots of structure, the palate still shows a lot of grip, with tremendous drive or thrust propelling the palate forward. Popped, decanted, and poured at Babbo. We were done in about an hour (except for the last glass held to the end of dinner). Perfect, Nebbiolo limpid ruby. The nose exploded from the glass with immediate roses; not much nuance, but pretty! Palate v tannic, as it should be (and we wanted it for the fatty footy di piggy and the black spaghetti) and obviously pointed acidity. Good length, nice sweetness on the dry lakebed of farewell tannins, quite Burgundian in that paradox. Lovely, but gods does it need food. Nose evolving smartly, now leather saddle, leather shop in Milan, raspberries; f'ing awesome nose! Finally, big time apples -- red delicious skins with their sweetness and tannins. Heaven with the trotter -- the tannins and tangy acidity cut right through the fat and gluey glycerin. Perfection now, but don't open for 7+ LOL...

Drank the bottle over a couple of hours. Straight from the bottle, the wine was a bit shy at the nose. Showed some cherries, anis and tar. In the mouth, very tannic. The wine opens up during the evening, but is still far too young. The wine has good potential, I will wait at least three years to open the next bottle.

Truly a disappointment. I had heard such great things about these single vinyard reserve bottlings. Opened and decanted for one hour. Alot of mossy wet wood and floral scents. There was fruit down deep, but so muted it was hard to distinguish. I thought corked, but since I had never had one of these before, I reserved judgement for second night. Clearly corked. No vestage of fruit left, and horrible. I have heard great things about this winery, and the Ribaja vineyard, so will try again.

Had in restaurant. Still very very very young....Needs at least 5 years. Medium ruby red with light brickish rim. Beautiful nose with plenty of licorice, cherry and tar. Med acidity, med body, still quite tannic, grainy texture, it is very tight and behind the nice clean fruit you can only guess it will only get better with age. The finish is already quite impressive and long. To revisit in 2013!

A decent bottle. Nothing that really wowed me. It did open up a bit after an hour but it just was not really giving the beauty and vibrance that I want and expect out of barb. I thought the Paje I had several days earlier showed much better. This did improve with food a fair bit and to be honest ( I am no expert) but I think it will be better in a few years. I would say it was between just above average. 80 points.

To revisit in 2013!

wat licht rode kleur, in eerste instantie wat gesloten later wat meer rood fruit en aardsheid, smaak is mooi in balans en heeft rondheid en wat elegantie, mist wat scherpte en diepgang

80 points.
