All Pinot Noir, from Portlandian limestone, fermented and aged in used barrel. 5 g/L dosage. Medium nose shows brioche, truffle, white flowers. Palate is toasty, richer style, but dry, phenolics give it nice structure. Showcases both those notes nicely, but they are both fairly loud in that regard. Needs time to develop.

Récolte Noire is made entirely from Pinot Noir with a minimum of two years aging in the bottle and with a dosage around 5g/L. The base wine is fermented in used Puligny-Montrachet barrels. The Recolte Noire is less fruity and more earthy than most Blanc de Noirs. White-golden in color, this is a fine, fresh and delicately fruity Champagne with just a hint of oak. Intense, fresh and lush on the palate with citrus flavors with toasty hints and a full-bodied rich finish.

The love for Champagne, hosted by Kölner Weinkeller (Zoom tasting): Wine 5: 100% Pinot Noir from Cote de Bar. Disgorged 31 July 2019, with a dosage of 5 g/l. Pale, medium yellow-gold. Lovely fresh raspberry and strawberry notes, stone fruit, apple, brioche, some nuts and a hint of smoke, with creamy, medium-fine mousse, good acidity and very good length of the fruit-bitter finish. Fairly balanced and harmonious. The finish lacks focus and becomes a little too sugary, but overall this champagne is quite appealing.

Medium lemon yellow with green highlights and lively mousse. Nose of green apple, yeast, and subtle oak. Green apple, lemon peel, and stony minerality evident on the palate with a slight nutty, oxidative character. Medium bodied with 12% alcohol and nice acidity which leads to a clean, refreshing finish. Made from 100% Côte des Bar Pinot Noir vinified and aged in barrel with 6 g/L dosage and disgorged July 27, 2014.

This is a Blanc de Noir, 100 percent Pinot Noir. It is also low dosage. At first, I only tasted minerality. It was a little prickly in my mouth. The wine settled down a bit, I was able to taste a little fruit. This is pleasing, but unremarkable. I don’t feel especially compelled to drink it again.

Blanc de Noirs Champagne tasting: Immense accidity, there's lots of lemon, lime, ginger and at times it even seems that there's acetic acid on the nose - so tart and volatile is the nose in the beginning. A very long citrus finish. This feels like a BdB much more than BdN, so chalky and sinewy.

The palate is quite expansive, with stone fruits, crushed rocks and some slight nutty tones; Ample acidity on the clean and refreshing finish; This has a lot of depth for a sub-$50 NV champagne, and I plan on stocking up on more

Small House Champagne, Oysters and Piemonte Fare (Osteria Langhe): Disgorged 3/14. Wow, the nose just bursts from the glass with layers of white fruit, mineral and bread notes. Broad and rich palate is simply delicious. Flavorful white fruits, bread and yeast with a clean, polished personality. This is banging on all cylinders now with richness, energy and 'deliciousness'. Note the most complex but a very enjoyable non-vintage wine.

Small-house Champagne dinner (Chicago, IL): Disgorged March 21, 2014; dosage of 7 g/L. Both the discovery and wine of the night. Super zippy and potent, this is focussed on the white end of the spectrum, with some Rainier cherry notes on the palate. I really liked the perfume on this wine.

Pours a clear medium yellow. Open, aromatic nose with strawberry, rose petal, tangerine, and orange blossom. Dry with medium body and tart acid, with a juicy palate with flavors of lemon peel, light raspberry, flower, bread, valencia orange. Lovely wine.

Just limited notes. Beautiful wine with some yeast, green apples and good citrus. The style is just very slightly oxidize and that adds to the complexity. Really nice Champagne that improves with some air time.

Medium-deep straw yellow color with pale green highlights. Very rich and toasty nose with aromas of autolytic brioche, some oxidative toffee character, a little bit of peachy fruit and a hint of tart and tangy green apple. The wine is dry, mineral and spicy with very crisp and angular overall character. There are flavors of chalky mineral bitterness, earthy spices, some oxidative nuttiness, a little bit of ripe apples and a hint of cherry-driven red fruit. However, there's a distracting streak of something odd, perhaps mushroomy character or damp soil. The wine is high in acidity with bright, persistent and crisp mousse. The finish is tart, lean and surprisingly short with tangy flavors of earthy Pinosity, grapefruity bitterness, some ripe citrus fruits and a hint of chalky minerality.
Overall this wine came across as promising, but there was this odd, somewhat unpleasant off note that stuck out like a sore thumb. I have no idea whether it's something that's part of the wine or if this was an off bottle - or if the wine was based on some poor vintage, like 2011. Overall this wine felt like a wine I'd enjoy very much - it is crisp, lean and structured, yet displaying those lovely, toasty and slightly oxidative nutty notes I love in a Blanc de Noirs. However, that weird off note takes its toll on the rating. Perhaps I need to revisit this wine in the future in the hopes that it was based on a better vintage or if it would otherwise perform better. Now I was a bit disappointed.

Dim Sum Club at Paradise Pavilion (Paradise Pavilion, MBFC): Decently good. This had a reserved but very pleasant nose, with flinty mineral and spice and neutral white fruit aromas topped up by a gentle whiff of white flowers and yeast. The palate was still very tight, all understated and subtle, showing white fruit and citrus limes wed to a gentle minerality. There was a sense of depth and subtle power to those flavours that spoke of the 100% Pinot Noir, while a fine, subtle mousse and a bright balance gave the wine very precise, focused feel. This was a solid NV Champagne, and it will probably get better with a bit of cellar time as well.

Helder strogeel, fijne mousse.

A fine "toasting" wine, though it really shined with food. The nose is just so aromatic and lovely. Quite dry (and the bottle says "minimal dosage"), even a bit tight at first. The shame of it is that this wine really needs some time in the glass to open up, so don't drink it too quickly!

Chilled about 1 hour, then served. Pours a light honeyed yellow. Good bubbles. The nose is rich, with ripe apple and pear and a touch of yeast. On the palate it has good but not great acidity, with nice mouthfeel that highlights apple and citrus with pear as a supporting flavor. Overall, a good Champagne but nothing special. Easy to drink and a real crowd pleaser.

Hmm, I'll give this wine the benefit of the doubt. There were no obvious indicators of flawing, but this was just a hugely empty experience. Very little to detect here. This was like champagne with the sound turned down. Lack of citrus, toast, yeast, mineral or any point of interest that would raise this above a basic supermarket champagne. The main difference would be that a supermarket champagne would have a more resilient mousse. At the price, I won't be risking another bottle of this.

Bought a bottle from the list at Andre. Second time round, and while I liked it, I was not quite as impressed as the first bottle we had some two years ago at the same venue. It still had a pretty nice nose, with a bit of yeast and some earthy accents shading nice notes of strawberries and lemons. Nice bead on the palate, fine and gently persistent, with a certain fruitiness to its flavours of fresh strawberries and more lemony, citrus notes at the side. The finish was rather round and fleshy, moving away in with a touch of white fruit seasoned with just a dash of spice. Nothing too complex, a bit simple actually, but this was a nice, balanced NV Champagne that worked well with a whole variety of food.

I rushed this one - should have given it more time in the decanter - at least an hour, if not two. After the decanter time the nose was full of floral and honey notes - really beautiful. Notably absent was the classic champagne toastiness. It was very rich and mouth-filling but still had great tingle and acidity to balance it out. Great, long finish.

This was an awesome display of NV Champagne and how good a Noir can be. Fine raspberry taste and smell, but not sweet, more like the raspberry was picked off the vines right before turning dark red. A great tart taste. This also had sour cherry in there. A fine mineral backbone and key lime citrus acidity was apparent on the long finish which alternated with fresh ginger root. I held 2 glasses for the next day and the taste and smell were the same. I think this will hold over some time. Between drinkings, I tasted NV Krug, which was all power and toasted brioche, startly contrasting the elegance of this wine. I also tried domestic blanc noirs from Iron Horse and Schramsberg, neither compared though I liked the Schramsberg over the Iron Horse. Back to this original beauty, D&L had all the good things you find in a rose champers while keeping the bad stuff out. I like my champers sans tannin which can confuse the wine and make it off balance. This was so elegant as well as tasty it might be the best NV I have ever had the pleasure of enjoying. Very close to 95

Pretty cool stuff. Close your eyes and you'd swear you were drinking a rose champagne. 100% Pinot noir. Nice tight bubbles. Little dosage. Sharp, focused, minerals, soft red and black fruits. Great stuff. Opened up with a little air. Could get better with a little bottle age.

Very dense, deep, and intense on the nose, this wine has very clear tones of whole wheat toast and faintly earthy notes showing clearly. Crisp mineral tones and fresh cut apple aromas also make an appearance.
The palate is very ripe and fresh, with coconut and amaretto showing at first. Lime and orange candy show brightly on a doughy base of wheat bread, with subtle hints of cut apple and coffee beans on the finish. Very full, dense, and nicely complex, this is easily a wine worth trying.
Fragrant, floral, smoky nose with grilled peach, apple and subtle licorice. Sweet apple and Meyer lemon on the mineral, savory mid-palate. Really lovely texture that is broad and complex in flavor. Great penetration and drive. This is actually better on the second day when some of the bubles have blown off. This should age really nicely.

2004 base. 100% Avirey-Lingey (Aube) Pinot Noir. Light golden color with a medium bead. Powerful citrus and mineral aromas. Medium weight with apple, citrus, rich spice, and a light oakiness. Noticeable salinity amidst the minerality. Light dosage. Beautifully balanced. Medium length finish. Purchased two years ago in Paris for $40 – an excellent bargain around that pricepoint. Already highlighting some expressive Aube terroir – I can’t wait to watch Dosnon & Lepage develop their young champagne house.

Dinner at Andre (Andre, Bukit Pasoh): A seriously good Champagne to serve as a house-pour. It had an ultra-fine bead that dance lightly up the flute. Lovely nose showed meaty, earthy accents, some gentle spice notes and a nice whiff of strawberries and cream - almost strawberry shortcake like there. I remembered thinking how there was a nice fruitiness to it - not sweet, or confected, just very pleasant. The palate took up that theme - soft and fruity, it had more fresh strawberries along with some sour cherries flavours topped with a dollop of cream at the end. Some ripe lemony acid acted as a foil for the plush fruit. It was just a tad simple on the midpalate and a little short on the finish, where the energy seemed to flag a little, but otherwise this was an impeccably balanced and very yummy Blanc des Noirs.

EWG does 2002 Burgundy (Palate Wine & Food (Glendale, CA)): this was handed to me. Ahh, rocks, gravel, minerals and acidity. Subtle citric flavors. Almost no detectable dosage. Nice way to wake up the palate. Needed food. Recolte Noir means dark harvest which led to jokes deeming this "satanic wine".

Graphite, smoke, pear & pastry. Really good cleansing acidity to balance the medium bodied fruit and dosage. Really enjoyed this, it had some depth to it as well.

I love this Champagne. Small, tight bubbles. Palate is floral with some raspberries and honey that is balanced with good acidity. Enjoyed every sip.

Clean and precise, almost hard. Lots of black cherry and berry flavors. By no means a rich toasty and sweet Champagne that many are used to. Crying to be served with food. Very nice stuff.

Notes of sourdough. Interesting palate, but doesn't last long in the glass.

Lovely Pinot-based sparkler, with round edges though crisp and dry. Golden in color. Lots of fine, raspy bead. Foamy mousse, quickly dissipates. Floral, berry, and blood orange aromas and flavors.

Elegant and fine without any apparent dosage that kept this wine dry and crisp both on the nose and palate. Biscuit with undertones of fruit on the nose. Very nice.
