This is a barometer of your Burgundy palate. If you don’t enjoy this, you might as well save your money and drink cali pinots. Exactly what jamesAbdavis said, with perhaps a tad more emphasis on finesse and overall seamlessness… it’s zen in a glass. I disagree with james in that there is abundant cherry and blueberry fruit to harmonize with sous-bois, a beautiful mineral streak and a hint of coffee grinds. Truly very special, in this specific time, to open this wine. I would open them all because why miss out on perfection of a village expression.

Just wonderful highly aromatic nose of black cherries, earth, mint and minerals. Lovely crystalline fruit on the palate. Lean and elegant in the style of the vintage. Lovely lift on the finish. Absolutely a point. A little bit of a sense that the fruit is hanging off the acidic structure here so it’s time to drink but this is nonetheless superb.

Fourrier Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Combes aux Moines Tasting (House of Nanda - Chicago IL): Served double blind following Fourrier Combe aux Moine vertical. Black berry and cherry throughout with smoked meat, good density, good+ length. Assessed as a blind wine, this was clearly from Burgundy, seemed most likely from Gevrey, and I thought it 10-15 years old. I then correctly identified the vintage when told it was either 2009 or 2007. Knew it had to be Rousseau when told that it was Village level (I thought 1er Cru).

Just; wow! I have never tasted this «low level» edition of aRousseau, and this really amazes me. Light red colour with only hints of brown. Intense nose of red berries, strawberries, as well as aged tones of dried prunes, caramel, and wet earth. Medium bodied, perfect balance, fantastic sweet prune-like fruit, fresh and long finish. A wonder!

Classic Gevrey character and drinking at peak now. Aromatic with nice layering in the nose. The palate has good concentration, that's just about right for a Village wine, with above average nuance and complexity.

Popped and poured. This was surprisingly oaky and tight for Rousseau, a 10 year old villages wine from a vintage like 2007. Would give plenty of air if opening now. I'll save this for 5+ years, serious upside for this wine.

Amazing nose. Fragrance leaps from the glass. Sous bois, ink, woody herbs, red fruits. Palate is sublime. Such a classy feel, long and intense, with just enough spice. And the finish is long, esp for this level. Delicious right now.

Ok QPR, not good QPR... when i bought this for 75 bucks i had hopes it would outperform its price, but no such luck, decent acidity, a touch of spice alongside the red fruits, good typicity but really nothing to make it stand out, not a rebuy... i am a huge fan of Rousseau's CSJ

Rockstars of Burgundy: Violet, medicinal, cherry and blackcurrant. Palate is not especially deep, there is decent balance to it but it didn't do much for me overall.

Decanted for 2 hours, this showed very ripe fruit for an 07 with a nice spice to the red fruit. Delicious and ready to drink, still years from maturity.

From a 375ml at RN 74. Lovely wine with classic Gevrey nose of dark fruits, sauvage notes, damp earth. The palate is really tasty with lots of fruit, fresh acidity and well integrated tannin. A well made traditional styled Gevrey.

Fourrier vs Rousseau: tonight the fourrier won by 2 points. The Rousseau showed classic rousseau style with a ripeness of complex red fruit (is that strawberry shortcake with balsamic?!) on the nose and a ghostly lightness on the palate...power and grace. At this level, the group preferred Fourrier med-full body palate and darker fruits.

Took a full 3 ours to open up and was sour, austere, acidic before. Once opened, had potent nose of small red fruits and brambles, held together with some woody complexity. Energetic palate with a mouthful of red fruits, with a bit too much acidity and dryness to be in balance. Wife would have rated lower as matter of preference.

Light warm red color, slight bricking in the edges. Wonderful nose of earth, ripe fruit, blackcurrant, spices, marzipan and aging aromas.
Palate is gentle, elegant ripe burgundian fruit, not much tannins left, and a bit weak on the tongue. I would wish for just a tad more concentration in the initial phase, but at the end there is power and a spicy long lingering finish. It also grows with time, and after a couple of hours on a decanter this is really a masterpiece of a wine. This was my last bottle, unfortunately.

Notes similar to previous bottle, with the added element of a certain meaty quality as the bottle opened. Last glass was sublime and very detailed, boding well for the future. Try again early 2015.

Excellent mix of spice, earth, acidity, red fruit, a little oak. Really good and fairly weighty wine (particularly for the vintage). Probably better 1 year+ from now, but really enjoyable today.
