  • Gently but quickly double decanted off its sediment and served at dinner with IW and our wives about 15 hours (yes) later. Kept in our wine bag with a couple of ice packs while we traveled, this was served above cellar temp, but still very cool compared to room temp. We were well-rewarded for the treatment we gave this bottle. In a word- Gorgeous.

Plum, cedar and an abundance of floral elements. Plush and velvety though has just a bit of soft tannin that remains. Mixed red and black fruit flavors carry through the finish. Sandalwood and subtle spice nuances as well.

  • WIML94+

    Tasted non blind.

Dark garnet color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Nose of Kirsch, black pepper, cassis, plum and wet stones. Flavors of cassis, plums, boysenberries and raspberries. Medium acidity, resolved tannin, full bodied. Drink over the short term. Perhaps into the medium term but I'd go short term.

  • Medium+ body, slightly brown at the edges. Lovely balance, fairly fruity still (red fruit), spicy (nutmeg, bay leaf, cloves). Plums, licorice, anise, hints of tobacco and leather. Gradually aging. I would drink it now.
    Delicious with some truffle paste.

  • Redigaffi 2007 93
Nice open red fruits medium to full bodied. Slightly astringent finish. Quite a full mouthfeel. Red fruits. Drink now, going down hill.

  • Thanks Jake for opening your bottle, but once again it’s a disappointment. Sugar plum stewed in confectionery sugar, heat, blousy...with all the hype, my two bottle experience has been very disappointing. Perhaps bottle variation.

  • I expected a lot more from this and it was a mess, with heat and stewed plums.

  • Merlot showdown at Maison Dakota. Tasted semi-blind. Drank in Grassl 1855.
Appearance is clear, deep intensity, ruby colour. Legs.
Nose is clean, medium intensity, with aromas of earth, new leather, dark red cherries, black cherries, hint of soy. Developed.
On the palate, dry, medium+ acidity, high alcohol (14.5%), velvety soft medium+ tannins, full body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of black cherries, dark red and black plums, dark red cherries, blackberries, licorice, new leather. Long finish.
Very good quality. Soft velvet mouth-feel is the highlight of this wine. Slight lack of acidity shows. Some may think this to be borderline soupy. A better impression already since the last time I drank this. Oak has integrated. I would say drink up sooner rather than later. Not worth the money for me.
Guessed correctly as the 2007 Redigaffi.

  • Ran it through a vinturi into a decanter. 20 minutes later back in the bottle through a funnel. Still took another 45 minutes a couple hours later at dinner to fully open. Lovely blue and black fruits with nice herbs and earthiness. Long finish. This bottle still had another 4+ years of peak form. Not much sediment.

  • Occasional dinner group. Keller, Coche Dury, Guigal La Landonne plus some ringers. (By PVa @ Monarh in Tilburg, The Netherlands): In the bouquet ripe dark berries like blackberries and well dosed oak. On the palate the same impressions, chocolate, a firm amount of sweetness and also acidity.

  • Nice freshness with a prominent acidic spine. Chocolate, licorice, prunes, mushrooms and wet earth. Very fine tannins in the background. A long lingering finish.

  • The dark and imposing bouquet on the 2007 left some tasters very satisfied and others confused. Here I found masses of fig paste, brown sugar, saw dust, tobacco, mocha, sweet herbs and hints of olive brine. On the palate, velvety textures ushered in red and blue fruits with cooling acidity, energy to burn and slow mounting tannin. However, going into the finish I found a baked and almost brown quality to the fruit as it stained the senses and slowly faded to reveal a hint of heat and grippy tannin.

  • Superb as always. Rich, bloody, minerals. Drinking well now.

  • Very dark mauve with some hints of age creeping in. Dark summer pudding fruit with extra raspberry coulis. Sweet and dark but with balancing acidity. Sweet and sour. This is right up my street and ready to go now. Can't see there's much to be gained by holding on to these too much longer. And there's no point complaining about the price. It is what it is.

Note to self: this has a ton of fine sediment and needs standing up for at least 24hrs before decanting - unless you like drinking soup.

  • Davyd's Birthday Celebration 2017 (Extra Space): Slow-oxed for 1.5 hours in bottle before tasting.
Appearance is clear, deep intensity, ruby colour. Legs.
Nose is clean, pronounced intensity, with aromas of milky vanilla oak, roasted earth, black cherries, blackberries, sweet spice, licorice. Developing.
On the palate, dry, medium+ acidity, high alcohol (14.5%), ultra-soft plushy medium+ tannins, full body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of black cherries, blackberries, milky vanilla oak, sweet spice, licorice. Mouth-feel is sexy, voluptuous, and full of plush black fruit. Long finish.
Very good quality, though honestly it doesn't have much complexity, and it's just a lot of make up added on. +1 point for the excellent mouth-feel. Maybe another 3-4 years for the oak to integrate more but don't see much more upside potential other than that.
Yes, this is an over-priced Merlot. Can mono-varietal Merlot wine have great complexity? Then again, I have yet to try a Petrus.

  • Agree
    Very tasty
Not The Best Merlot from Tuscany tonight though
Petrolo Galatrona had more fruit and complexity
This is too much money And there are other wines to look for
L Apparita is a better choice Also

  • A huge round wine that coats your mouth. Still a complete baby although the tannins are super silky so it is a pleasure to drink today. Loads of stewed black fruit.

  • WIML94

    Tasted non blind.

Garnet to dark garnet color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Nose of violets, plums, berries and cherries. Flavors of plums, berries, raspberries and cherries. Medium to bright acidity, medium tannin, full bodied. Drink or hold.

  • Poured and it was inky and opaque in the glass. A hint of power. Nose--black cherry and herbal. Taste: Black currant, dark chocolate, herbs. Balanced with a smooth finish. This is ready to drink now and over the next 5 years. A touch dry with a puckery, dry cherry at the end. Impressive for Italian considering my faves are France and California. Well done. WTSO purchase ~ $200. I enjoyed this as much as LLC so this may very well be a value wine considering the price. I'd buy it again.

  • Deep rich Cocoa covered espresso bean aromas. Dark rich spicy bright dense flavors. Juxtaposition of ripe black cherry and crisp acidity. Young and sexy, a guilty pleasure. Smoky creamy element adds dimension and intrigue. Young, but oh so good.

  • Impressive but overpriced, in my opinion. Good concentrated fruit. A little too hot with alcohol and acidity for a merlot. Solid tannic structure.

  • - Crimsom color - Notes of persimmon and cherry upon first contact, then opening into eye watering seared anchovy as you burp up your fish entre. 12/10 would chug again.

  • Three flights of awesome (My house): Licorice, tobacco, medium weight in the palate, very intense acidity, which is quite typical for Tuscany. Not bad but not too excited about this. I'm considering selling my remaining bottles of this.

  • I expected something flamboyant, but what I got was elegance in a softly tannic frame. The nose was subtle with pure black cherry. Well balanced with ripe dark fruit, minerals, and acidity creating a velvety texture. It ends long with a final hit of tannins and punctuated by a shot of acidity.

  • From double-magnum. Very dark and glowing. Fantastic nose, deep, complex with ripe red and dark fruit, cherries, pure and delicate, herbs, cedar, liquorice. Sweet and rich on the palate, quite backward, great grip, firm, fresh and mineral, mouth coating but round tannins, great bite. Very persistent and long, complex and balanced. Needs more time but starting to open up. A wonderful wine. 94-96+

  • Dark purple. Expressive nose of dark fruit with plum, cherries and chocolate. Depp and ripe but not overripe. On the palate medium-full bodied with lots of mouth fill and silky texture. A very good Merlot. Needs a bit more complexity to score beyond 95 though.

  • EWS Best of Bolgheri (blind tasting) (New York Vintners): Fascinating, hauntingly beautiful nose. Homemade little black cherries and licorice.

  • Special bouquet; cherries and lactic impressions, but also luxurious and complex. On the palate creamy dark fruits, sweet spices, mint and a firm amount of acidity. The wine needs more (air) time to show its merits. Wait until 2015/16 or later.

Mooie wijn! Kan nog paar jaar liggen!

  • Winebow's ICON tasting (RPM Italian, Chicago, IL): Nose: Stunning on the nose with all sorts of perfumes and deep tones of red berries, wild spices, roses, blueberries, and red cherries. This is well layered already with a lot of class.

Taste: Medium/full bodied with medium+ acidity and some very chewy tannins. The feel is extremely polished underneath the tannins along with deep tones of hi-toned red fruits, wild spices, red cherries, herbs, and some oak.

Overall: This is a stunning wine. It's certainly young and is showing some great materials right now. This has all sorts of class and polish with a lot of depth as well.

  • Alcohol :: 14.5%
Opened for 5hrs and decanted for another 2hrs. Very dark ruby in color. Complex aromas of cedar, vanilla, blackcurrant, dark plum, licorice, mint and mixture of milk / dark chocolate all wrapped in an absolutely powerful, focus and deep package. Wow, such full, expansive mouth feel with absolutely refine, ripe tannin and polish, firm structured to support the massive concentration of sweet dark fruits. The 2007 has the lushness of the 2006. However, it wasn't as showy as the 2006 as it has a little bit more restraint and 'coldness' as well as deeper mineral tone. I'm not complain here, both 2006 & 2007 are absolutely first class, but just different. The powerful, intense finish goes on forever. This is a stunning Redigaffi with amazing purity, class and finesse. This wine should continue to improve in the bottle for another 7-10yrs effortlessly. 94-96

  • Tasted blind: Dark purple in color. Ripe dark berries, grape jelly. Long finish, complex and plenty of power. The tannins are still a bit hard. Cherry licquour, salty aftertaste but quite complex. Still too young. Wait until 2015.

  • Deep deep purple in colour with intense berry flavours with a dusty, mineral edge. Full and dense with sweet, powerful tannins and good acidity. I wonder how this unique wine will develop over the years with such potent structure.

  • The 2007 Redigaffi shows a noble character. A bit restrained rigth now it has good freshness, great structure and fantastic merlot aromatics that will blossom as the wine ages. Very good and fresh finish (95+)
