A decidedly old school SE, perfectly melting mature red berries, noble cask aromas, club seat leather, chocolate and tobacco. Very smooth and silky. Although thinning out in the finish the bottle was a wonderful journey back to a glorious past of classical Bordeaux.

I would still see this in a pretty perfect space these days. Bottles was in pristine condition, cork not soaked at all. If anything, it gained refinement without losing power of the past years since the last bottle. So this comes velvety, jammy, with aged Bdx notes of mushrooms, forest floor and herbal notes. Also nice leather and faint cinnamon notes accompanying a very nicely balanced finish with still vibrant acidity. Good length for a surprising 12.5 ABV. For good bottles, I would see no hurry to drink, but potentially also not much gain waiting more.
If it is not to have some memories of this foregone chateau. I loved the 1989 and it still does not feel right to discontinue this elegant saint emilion….specially as the Quintus it was merged into clearly is a “modern” wine, stronger, more extracted and higher in alcohol and built to please the tasters connected to the “mother” chateau (Haut Brion)… so easy to see how the marketing works, and sad that this illustrious little name disappeared.

Enjoyed over 2 nights while tasting 6 other wines, notes posted. This wine has always been a favorite of mine since 1985. It has been merged with Chateau Tertre Daugay into Chateau Quintus in 2013 although they controlled the 2011 vintage. This bottle of 1995 shows excellent cellaring at 60 degrees F but sadly shows its age. As of today, about 230 bottles of this are listed on Cellartracker and probably should be consumed immediately IMO. Enjoy it now and earn your cellar time reward!!!

Lovely, textbook, Bordeaux with lots of tobacco and cedar on the nose and blackcurrent cassis fruit. Not over weight at all and energetic while being fully resolved. Delightful.

Zoom tasting with the wine group - Bordeaux: Medium-deep ruby, minimal bricking; nose has an offputting aroma at first, almost a little acetone and a little skunk; palate is full bodied, youthful, but the same offputting aroma comes through on the palate as well. This seems flawed, but unclear what the flaw is… Not pleasant for me. 1 hour of air in the glass: The offputting aromas mostly blow off, but not much underneath that excites me, and still a bit of acetone or VA. 87

Not a bad Saturday afternoon: Celery seed and pyrazine, very savory, a rough and tumble wine that shows a lot of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc character. It had a mixed reception. I enjoyed it quite a bit, but I'm a big fan of Loire Cabernet Franc and old school Bordeaux.

Medium light red. Earthy hints of cherry fruit and cedar box. Very light nose and flavours. Dry tannic finish. Last red of the night so my note is very sparse. I do remember my mouth being burnt out at this point.

At peak. Lovely with grilled pork and polenta. Plenty black fruit, but dominant cigar, leather and graphite. Complete surprise , as I wasn't expecting much. Wine has plenty of backbone left if you want to wait, but why? Drink this now.

Nose of barnyard, saddle leather, cigar box, and forest floor, more of the same on the palate, very tasty, typical Bordeaux, medium/big body, almost elegant, at its peak time to enjoy, easily last another 10 years if well stored, and a long finish.

Certainly reach its drinking plateau, this wine has not changed much over the last 2 years. Slight hint of wood but blows off quickly, wet earth, oyster shell, red/black fruits, and oak. Medium bodied with good balance, not very complex though. Enjoyable bottle.

Nose of cedar, tobacco, earth, and red cherry fruit, more of the same on the palate, delicious, similar to the 1986, medium, mouth coating wine, a gunpowder tea component was evident, long finish. Will age three years and improve slightly, but almost at its best.

La Commanderie de Bordeaux à Vancouver - Chateau L’Arrosee (Chambar): This was the outlier of the flight. Black cherry nose with mint and beef broth that is quite a bit different than the 90 or 89. This was tight and quite structured and needs a good bit of time before prime time drinking. Very good. 89+

Very strange, certainly not how I'd expect any '95 to show at this stage - rather advanced with aromatics of earth, black tea and very mature red fruit, and showing barely any structure.

Double Blind @ Le Provencal; 8/28/2012-8/29/2012 (Le Provencal, Miracle Mile, Coral Gables,FL): - Garnet color with fast forming legs. It's balanced with a medium/full body. Polished texture with a medium finish - Barry's wine. By stroke of fortune served immediately after the Angelus. I was ablest immediately identify the similarity, but it lack the nuance and development of the Angelus.

After rather disappointing experience with the L'Arrosee 1996 recently, I did not expect much from this wine, but the 1995 vintage turned out to be much better. Uncorked and poured. Brick red on the rim, well aged wine. Very subtle on the nose. Notes of cherry, cedar, and raspberry. Sweet tannins and velvety texture. Soft and balance wine. Drinking well now. I would think this one will last for a few more years. First bottle of two cases bought during EP.

Poured into decanter and drank over 2h. Still a fairly dark garnet. Perfect condition as cork is barely stained. Barnyard, earth, dark fruit, some cedar. There is still plenty of fruit on the smooth and plush palate. Later an increasing amount of tannins appears. Medium plus finish. Nice now but will last for several years.

Very introvert when i opened it - much more than the previous bottle opened a few months ago. Had to decant for an hour to show more nose (smoky, tobacco) and its full body developped on the palate (some caramelised nuts). Perfect garnet colour. I would drink now

Opened and poured from the bottle. Drank over 2 hours. Little sediment. Expanded taste and smell throughout this time.
Visual : Garnet rim, and orange background - signs of a well aged wine. Smell : Caramelized red fruits, oaky, a bit of cinamon. Some tobacco too. Taste : Torrefied cacao, nuts finish, very well balanced, silky and smooth. Toasty flavours. No tannis left. very long finish.
Bottom line : a great wine at its best - drink now / soon.

Decanted one hour, consumed over three. Dark ruby in the glass, with browning at the rim. Strong barnyard nose at the beginning which disappeared after 45 minutes. After it settled down, nose of red fruits and leather, with some mint and herbs. Not much fruit on the palate, but nice structure, with dark berries, chocolate and roasted coffee beans. Lots of tannin left, which will outlast the fruit. Drink up.

Decanted for 3 hours before serving blind at dinner. A nose of barnyard and 'poopy' as one of my friends described it. What a contrast coming after a 05 Boedecker Pinot Stewart. Black fruit with bits of chocolate. Good acidity suggesting a few more years left. WOTN. Nicely balanced with good structure, decent finish too. Very enjoyable.

Possibly somewhat corked. Not a perceptible TCA note but ever so slightly ammoniated and rather muted, albeit still showing some nice cedar notes on the nose, and somewhat dilute on the palate. The quality of the wine was evident in the lovely very fine tannins but judgment reserved, I seem to remember another bottle a few years ago being much better.
