Bought on release. My last bottle. Popped and poured at the Jets opener. Just catching up on notes. Has developed extremely well. very meaty, red fruit, dark cherry, earthy and herbal. I do not know whether cellaring this myself was a good "investment" but at least I knew the provenance and was very happy with the result.
A stunning, exemplary, majestic kind of wine. Perfectly balanced, elegant, strong, extracted powerhouse with M+++ tannin and M++ acids building a fabulous structure with the marvellous fruit. Not yet in its stride.
Dark red with small sign of beginning maturity. Nose is strong and filled the living room when decanted (2.5 hrs). Elegant fruit with some maturity shining through. Very clear aromas of newly printed newspaper, anise seeds, red berries, sumi ink and a hint of earth. On the palate, it is a thorough breed. A stallion made for racing, not at all a Belgian Blue. Very very detailed and precise in the mouth, tannins dressing up your gums, fruit and acid playing Rachmaninoff on four hands. Missing things: complexity and layers. Tannins mellowed over the course of the dinner, but the wine remained the same. No surprises. We love this powerful expression of Tempranillo and the really really low yields make this a very beautiful wine, indeed. Wife: 94p also. Wine is far from over the hill (CT drink index says: 2006-11). At La Rochelle Akasaka, brilliantly sensitive French cuisine.

Non-blind. Decanted for 3 hrs - drank over 6 hrs. This is a stunner! Ashes, smoke, meat, dark fruit. The most masculine Tempranillo we ever had. Mighty! Evolved constantly in the glas. Fabulous balance and strong fruit. Will evolve for many years. Spanish theme wine dinner @ home with very good friends.

(90+) My final bottle of '03 and as written about my previous bottle, this one benefited greatly from over 4hrs. in the decanter (+ the vinturi); showing explosively rich and complex aromatics (roasted nuts, liccorice and herbs), as well as a rich, full mouthfeel; bolstered by solid acidity and a real nice, mid-length finish. This wine is the Sheeeeeet! Unfortunately, there's not many who will have the history and patience to give it the proper treatment and so, likely won't coax it's full potential from it. Sensing a touch of over grading by our reviewers, I preface my review by saying that 80 points indeed reflects a wine that the reviewer determines to be "Good". And that is how I feel about this brash, in your face, typical harsh Spanish tempranillo. Obviously a wine that needs food to pair with. Yet on its own, it hits you hard like a cup of black coffee. Heavy earth tones, dry, hiding whatever fruit might be there. The nose tells you immediately that you are in for the taste of Spanish soil, and that's what this wine delivers. Go boldly with this one.

Opened about 1 1/2 hours before drinking. Assertive nose, with mostly plum, smoke, and pencil lead. Same characteristics on the palate, along with major tannins. Fairly rich mouthfeel and a medium-long finish. Tannins and pencil lead overshadowed the fruit. Still hard-as-nails after all these years.

Popped and poured. Dark translucent purple. Opulent nose of dark fruit, vanilla, and licorice. Fruit forward palate of ripe dark fruit, pleasant acidity and still grippy tannins. Dies off a bit quickly on the mid palate and finish. Intense licorice. Integrated oak. Excellent wine, but a mere shadow of the 2003 Toro Numanthia - which was one of my most memorable wines in 2008.

Popped and poured. Deep garnet hue. On the nose, the aromas were initially quite funky, with what appeared to be a slight oxidation. This changed after about 45 minutes, the aromatic profile transforming to reveal aromas of plums, blue fruits, brown sugar, and a touch of balsamic. Medium-plus body. On the palate, the flavor of plummy, dark fruits are complemented nicely by notes of earth, smoked meats, and a touch of vanilla. Really hit a high note after about 2 hours, the fruit gaining interesting complexity with notes of raspberries and strawberries. However, after 3 hours this wine seemingly shut down, with chunky tannins suddenly overwhelming the fruit. Hard wine to evaluate, hence the lack of score. 90-91 during the brief window it was open for business.

I'd have to disagree with what many say about this wine...on several fronts. First of all, it's got time left on it - the color and fruit structure (which didn't really show itself until after over 1 1/2 hours) clearly indicate ageability. Early on, the tannins provided a firm grip and although I've only previously read about the type, were very "chalky"; only melding with the fruit towards the end of the bottle (2 hrs in!). Definitely NOT a pop-& pour...nor a "table wine", as this one needs some marbled meat! In fact, I put it through the vinturi, into a decanter for the aforementioned timeline. I'm reminded of the ever-increasing "new wave" of Bordeaux; with huge fruit but almost unyielding grip. Finally, there's plenty of acidity there to carry this past the anticipated "close" of the drinking window in 2010. That said, I sense a slight lack of balance througout. Therefore, it's quite likely that 2hrs in a decanter would prove more promising than holding this wine for a couple more years...but stick around, I've got one more btl (as well as a few each of the '04, '05 & now '06) so, I'll pledge to sit on my last '03 and get back to you...

(Tasted Blind) Dark, dark purple, big zin like nose of vanilla, char, boysenberry with hints of spice, brown sugar and bacon fat, very extracted juice but suave, tannins are drying, long finish that lingers on the lips with flavors of menthol and tangy fruits, hard to give it less than a 90 for its richness but really not my style of wine

Blind Spanish Tasting (Wesabi's Abode): Decanted for 1 hour. This wine exhibited a garnet/dark garnet color. On the nose, aromas of plums, blackberries and raspberries were evident with notes of licorice, figs and notes of earthiness. On the palate, flavors of raspberries, black cherries and plums were joined by notes of graphite, figs and spice on the finish. Nice, modern styled Spanish wine with some age on it. This particular bottle tasted as though it was at it's peak and I can't see it getting any better as I felt it revealed everything that it had. Drink up! HS90

A very good wne for the price point. Cork was very dark as one would expect from a tempranillo. Bouquet was strong, almost like a powerful zin or a winery floor. Deep colored wine, very purple. Full bodied and luscious. So extracted the gasses were stained. But very good and flavorful. Would buy a Termes again hands down.

Popped and let sit for about 3 hours. Extremely dark in the glass, on the nose dark fruit, jam, and some earthiness. On the palate the tannins were present but not overbearing. More jam, and black cherries. The earthiness was still present and the wine was drier than I expected. This is a nice bottle and I am glad I have a few of the '04's and the 05's are still available. I will buy more.

Tasted as part of Wino Depot's Tasting With Friends for November: Quite dark in the glass. Fairly strong notes of jam, some clove, and dark fruits on the nose. Good concentration. The nose followed through on the palate with some earthiness showing through as well. A little out of balance on the finish and having what I call a rustic character. Showing none of the tartness I had noticed on an earlier bottle. Much improved. 89-90 points and a pretty good value for the $18.00 or so we spent on it.

After reading Jay's notes on the new vintage I had to bust this out. Color is deep, deep purple. Nose is chockablock of black fruits, blackberry jam and a hint of dry mustard and black licorice. The oak is still living large as well. Palate is really juicy with more blackberry, cassis, vanilla and licorice. Some black cherry and red raspberry is hiding in there too. Mid-palate is thinner than I would have expected, but the tannins are fine grained. As it warmed it became fuller and bigger in all aspects. Will be even better in another year or so. Wish I had more. 91-92 pts

Deep ruddy garnet, impenetrable. On the nose jammy black fruits, figs, vanilla, raisins, caramel and alcohol. Mildly but not and somewhat port like. On tasting - low in acidity, healthy dose of wood showing, some heat, quite sweet flavors of very ripe fruit, caramel, figs, raisins. Finishes with port notes and heat. Good grapes and competant winemaking surely but the end result is not to my liking.

This is a pleasant wine with a beautiful deep, deep garnet hue. It has a nice round bouquet. However, it lacks complexity or finish to make this a compelling wine. It also lacks the structure to pair this well with food; it does drink nicely on its own though. This wine does not possess the tannins to allow this develop further, so it is probably near its peak.

Full-bodied and very fruit-forward with notes of sweet cherries and berries. The fruit over-powered verything and the wine yielded no structure; just a fruitbomb with no personality. Maybe it was no my style.

Deep reddish-violet. Loads of dark berries with leather/earth and spice. On the palate the fruit is very big, but it is a bit fat and soft (high pH?). Tannins are present and the finish is medium length. Previous comment about new world seems on the mark. Still, lots to enjoy.

A nice red with rounded, plush fruit flavors and a very clean, pleasant finish.

Have not tried this wine in about a year and a half. Drinking nicely tonight. Very darkly colored. Restrained nose. Midpalate flavors of sweet blackberry, coffee, tart berry, spice. Finishes smooth with a trace of tannin. Drink or hold short term.

A bit too sweet, showed better the next night, I guess the exposure oxidized some of the sugar? I'd guess this will improve with a few more years aging.

Would really like to have another bottle of this wine. Very smooth. While the taste was not overwhelming, it matched well with a strip steak.

Bodega Numanthia-Termes WS dinner @ Canonita. Forward fruit, lush, and soft. Nice milk chocolate notes on the nose, and some earthiness on the palate. Very enjoyable, good value wine.

Really interesting. Not as complex as the Numanthia - Numanthia. Had hints of pencil lead and minerality that worked well with the dark fruit components. Could see this coming together in the near future.

[Cafe Loup: pork] Concentrated berries fruit, some leather, highly acidic, oaky. Noce finish. Big modern style. Not bad for $18. But otherwise uninspiring and straightforward. Wont buy more.

I agree with 'Lucky Jim'. There seems to be significant bottle variation. My first bottle was very fruit forward. The second bottle had little to no fruit. Perhaps my third bottle I will let breathe for a couple of hours.

This bottle was more fruit-forward than the last. Needed about two hours to really show its stuff. Excellent wine.

Full-Bodied,full-fruit inky wine. Very enjoyable now but will get more interesting with age.

Previous bottles of this vintage tasted pretty over the top (very new world), but either there is some bottle variation or the wine quickly settled down. This bottle reminded me of the 02 vintage -- lots of power but also elegance and refinement.

Very smooth - not quite up to the 2002 or the 2000, but maybe a little more time will help bring out its true character. will have to see what the experts say when they get around to this one!

Deep reddish-violet. Loads of dark berries with leather/earth and spice. On the palate the fruit is very big, but it is a bit fat and soft (high pH?). Tannins are present and the finish is medium length. Previous comment about new world seems on the mark. Still, lots to enjoy.

Purple color, earth and black fruit nose with some resemblance to a upscale Aussie Shiraz, great value for the low $20's price tag.

Big and bold like previous vintages, but Im not sure this one has the fluidity on the palate. A somewhat disjointed bruiser but maybe it just needs to settle for a few? At $17 its worth a shot in a couple years...

Great...Glass-like integration...nice purple chalky tannins. Deep plum, blackberry fruit. Good concentration for aging potential. I like it....I love it at $22.
