Drinking outstanding right now. Comparable to Saxum (never had a bad bottle). Great bottle. I will be visiting this winery next time in Paso Robles. Great nose and beautiful palette. Can’t believe I overlooked this winery.

We tasted the 2007 Outsider and the 2007 Problem Child in the same evening. This was a very interesting comparison as the Outsider is composed of 70% zinfandel, 20% syrah, 10% mourvedre while the Problem Child is 72% zinfandel, 16% syrah and 12% mourvedre. Despite having almost identical composition, these wines tasted very different upon opening. The color of both was the same with dense garnet in color. The Problem Child was ripe, sweet red and black fruit-sweet black cherries, black raspberries, plums. Smooth and complex with some earth, and vanilla from oak. Seamless and well integrated with long finish. In comparison, the Outsider seemed to have less fruit and a sharper edge, but the same fruit notes, and a slightly shorter finish. With time in the glass the Outsider seemed to open more and become more like the Problem Child, although I could always tell them apart by the sharper edge present in the Outsider. Both lovely wines, but tonight for me the Problem Child wins out.

Aucun signe d'oxydation.

70% zinfandel, 20% syrah, 10% mourvedre. 15.9% alcohol. Clear dark garnet blood red. Hot and harsh, brandy-like, with strong alcoholic notes of red fruit and cherry cordial.

Deep and dark in color. Thick and satin-like on the palette this wine just explodes in the mouth. Dark fruit, with secondary notes of pepper and spices with a slight minerality. The fruit just comes to the line of being jammy and I can't decide if it ever really crosses the line. The tannins are fully integrated, never noticed but holding the wine together. There was some iodine on the finish but I am wondering if that really wasn't the 15.9% alcohol poking through. Although there're wasn't any heat from the alcohol it was always brooding in the background. The tilt towards jam and the slight trace of alcohol kept this from going from a very good wine to an excellent wine.

Matt said within five years after bottling but I say it still drinks great! Just good, black fruit, white pepper, drinks well right out the shoot, alcohol well integrated at this point. Still a favorite, it's why I fell in love with LC and 7 years later it still reminds me

One of Matt's big Zin efforts. Usually not a huge fan of the outsider, brought tonight for the menu of ribs, this showed well. Other wines tonight included an Insignia, Oreno and an Ornellia, a Dominius, a Flaccianello, a Dr. Stephens, and a Phalmayer, Chapellet Pritchard Hill to name a few. Decanted at offline. Dark, no sed. Big but soft new world effort here. Nose shows a sweet floral n black n blue fruit. Soft but not flabby mouthfeel. No appreciable heat. Went well with tonight's rack of lamb and ribs. Drink or hold for short term.

Another big fruit zin from LC that reminds us why they have such a large slice of our cellar. Just a whole lot of jammy fruit up front, but not overripe at all. Big chewy middle, some spiceness poking through the blackberry and oak, and the high alcohol level well hidden. One of my favorites.

Last bottle of this. Decanted for about 90 minutes. Bright cherry aroma and also flavors. Vanilla, black plum. Really nice. Long lasting flavors. This one improved over the one I drank last year - plus this one had the decant. Matched well with the grilled lamb.

Opened this due to concerns about the drinking window, but don't fret, lots of time left on these bottles. If you like Zins, this is your wine. My wife and I really didn't even want to drink it, the Blackjack 2003 Harmonie we began dinner with was just so much better. Plus, I'm waning on Zins, and this was a Zin O' Rama! The alcohol on this is 15.9%, but you wouldn't know it because it is buried in a mound of full throttle fruit and wood. Too much wood frankly, monster wood.

Not sure if this was an off bottle, given others' and my previous tasting notes. Sipped on the patio and then with hickory-smoked burgers. Murky purple in the glass with a muted nose upon opening and disjointed on the tongue. With an hour in the glass some red and purple fruits emerged, along with a dose of blackberry and raisins. Notes of sandalwood and thyme. A bit flabby, lacking sufficient acidity to be more food friendly. And it never came together or wowed us, as LC wines always seem to do. Drink now?

P-n-P. This was very primary upon opening, translation = grape juice. One hour later there is intense aromas of blackberry and kirsch with black tea and ocean air but not funky. At the one hour mark, this was almost too easy to drink. At 3 hours in, add black licorice to the mix, but the palate is now showing vanilla and wood with just a hint of alcohol popping out. Interesting wine, and my favorite Outsider to date, there was no spritz! I find it interesting that this wine evolved and got more complex, but then went too far. I am guessing that temperature was a factor @ the 3 hour mark.

15.9% alcohol. A massive wine - thick viscosity of dark fruit. This wine is at its peak, smooth tannins, drink in the next year. Serve at 65 degree to keep the heat from showing. Parker liked this wine, with a score of 94 (Wine Advocate #190). Interesting blend: 70% Zinfandel, 20% Syrah, 10% Mourvedre.

Genie, grant me three wishes. Give me a Zin-based blend that's both fruit-forward and elegant. Granted. Give me a wine that develops in the glass over a 90-minute dinner. Granted. Give me a wine that elicits some discussion as we swirl, slurp and enjoy. Granted . . . Terrific bottle of wine that was grapey upon opening with some spice on the back end. Thirty minutes later it developed notes of pepper and anise, with the bouquet featuring sea breeze components, fresh and lively with a slightly salty whiff here and there. Lots going on in the glass. Sweetens during the first hour, with notes of apricots and peaches to accompany the dark fruits. Drink by 2014.

Garnet ink and purple hues with med-heavy viscosity in the glass. Somewhat muted nose of briery dark fruit, pepper, fig, vanilla and heat. Full body and luscious red and dark fruit, pepper, tobacco, volcanic earth and heat on the palate. Fruit you can cut with a knife along with corresponding heat, which made it difficult with food… < 86. Dusty tannin. Long finish. On its own, showing excellent at this time.

Loads of black raspberry & cherry. A bit hot even for a 15.9% wine. The alcohol blows off after a bit. Pepper and vanilla. Had this for Hurricane Irene. 70% Zin and it shows, and that is a good thing. This needs a bit of air before consuming. Cheers Irene.

Had this on the porch with some visiting French folks from Banyuls. Started out with a Rhone then said I would pull a more "voluptuous" California bottle. Linne Calodo was what I brought up - and he immediately said "new world." This was rich in black fruit and vanilla. We didn't have time to decant but it did soften a bit over the evening. I didn't get heat considering it was almost 16% alc. There was a bit of spritz which also blew off. Enjoyable with the cheese plate and Philly soft pretzels!

Big, rich nose of blueberry and blackberry jam, smoke, incense and potpourri spicei. Not for the faint of heart, palate is richly fruited and chock full of big fruit and toast flavor. A healthy dose of juicy acidity provides a balancing counter to the rich fruit. Delicious flavor profile echoes the nose. Long, meaty and flavor-filled finish. No noticeable heat. Well done L-C.

Wine maker notes: 70% Zinfandel, 20% Syrah, 10% Mourvèdre. Flavors of raspberry, pomegranate, and black cherry intermingle as the wine sifts its way through your palate. Aged in 30% new American Oak, these charcoaled barrels both enhance the aroma and mouthfeel making the wine almost a meal on its own. The heavy body of this wine makes me recommend that you consume within the next five years *Rated 91-93 points by Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate, Issue #184 *Rated 93 points in Wine Spectator’s March 31, 2010 Issu

Rich boisenberry fruit, chewy tree bark, herbs and lush mouthfeel with firm tannins. This is great briary Zinfandel with structure. I found this extremely pleasurable and more Zin like than some of the LC Zin blends.

Drank over about 1.5 hours. Huge nose of sweet blackberry jam, vanilla, spices (mint was distinguishable for me), and some heat. Palate: Huge wine. Big blackberry flavors with some cherry cola toward the end and a long, peppery finish. This wine is super-concentrated and not what I would consider overly complex. The mouthfeel is outstanding, and although the alcohol is noticeable all the way through (15.9%), he's done a nice job of masking it with a load of fruit. Typical Paso heat detracts from this one for me, but it's pretty delicious. Note a great wine for delicate foods.

Popped and poured, note after 2 hours. Nose of sweet berries. Great fruit (cherries, blueberries and raspberries) on the palate. This is a sexy wine. I believe the addition of the rhone grapes adds a bit more oomph to the mostly zinfandel wine. What a fun wine to drink.

This is a hot rod of a wine. Strong in a straight line, but flabby around corners. Dark ruby with purple reflections and viscous in the glass. Pepper, heat, raisons and dark berries on the nose, which is more closed than expected. Pepper, raisons, dark berries on the initial palette. Heat, pepper, cocoa, smoke and pucker mid-palette. Cocoa, coffee and continued grip on medium-length finish. Structure is awkward, especially the acidity and tannin. I initially paired with beef and starches and it did not show well. A day later I paired with a spicy, carne asada burrito and it showed sturdiness. Perhaps its still too young. I trust laying it down will help sort things out.

What an incredible wine! Deep red color, juicy fruit on the nose, and delicious fruit on the palate. Holy cow! This is a big wine with a finish that lingers... This one is still very young. Gorgeous & fruity to drink now or savor later. Other Linne Calodo wines age beautifully as they tend to relax and soften. I love 'em young and love 'em aged. Winners either way. Stems up!

Far from being elegant, this is a bruiser that was fun to drink and showed plenty of Zin typicity along with hints of Syrah (I didn't notice any Mourvedre, though not necessarily surprising at only 10%). Chewy, juicy, rich fruit with a big mouthfeel, this isn't a wine to try to convince your Old World friends that the New World is where it's at--they'd like run the other way and never come back. But if you like this style, it was quite tasty. (PE: 92)

A blend of 70% Zinfandel, 20% Syrah and 10% Mourvedre. Dark ruby color. Cherry kirsch nose. Tastes of blackberry, black cherry and black pepper. Nice acidity and freshness. Rich powerful finish but lacking the depth to make it truly outstanding.

In LC's 'house' style.....has that sweet element to it. Not a negative or sweet in the sense of RS, just tons of fruit and ripeness. Nothing stood out but I have high expectations of LC and in general Rising Tides and Cherry Red really are favorites year in and year out. This is a nice bottle, not top shelf LC to me but still enjoyable.

Deep purple with nose primarily of flowers and baking / cooking fruit. Nice fruit flavors but too much of a sweet note from the Rhone portion of the show, and nothing substantial to spice it up. Hopefully this bottle went wrong a bit.

The heavy body of this wine makes me recommend that you consume within the next five years

(PE: 92)

Very dense dark berry and mocha fruit with some oak evident but well integrated. Low acidity and high alcohol make this wine somewhat ponderous to drink. Fun but not elegant enough to score truly well.

Smooth and sophisticated, it's hard to tell that this blend is dominated by 70% zinfandel. Enjoyable, but in my opinion, not a very good QPR.

Black cherry and mocha/coffee flavors with a long finish. Even on day 3 after opening, this was still delicious. Bravo.

Deep purple with nose primarily of flowers and baking / cooking fruit. Nice fruit flavors but too much of a sweet note from the Rhone portion of the show, and nothing substantial to spice it up. Hopefully this bottle went wrong a bit.

Big expressive nose of blackberries, cherries and licorice. Palate continues with the essence of the nose and adds a touch of chocolate with good structure and decent acidity. High in "delicious" factor.

The nose is very primary with a lot of dark fruit and buttermilk.
Insane power in the palate with a wild fruit and almost surreal acidity...
Simply a crazy wine with a huge potential.. The depth of the wine is simply amazing!
