Nose: The nose is deep and rich, filled with marshmallows, orange peels, marmalade, red apples, bosc pears, meyer lemons, vanilla, toast, and oak notes. This pushes the boundary of being too big and a nimble heavyweight while still showing some notable oak.
Taste: The feel is Full bodied with medium acidity. The feel is deep, dense, and polished with orange peels, marshmallows, marmalade, red apples, meyer lemons, bosc pears, toast, and oak notes.
Overall: This is in full flight after about a half hour open. This is classic Aubert that pushes the line but still holds back just a small bit. This is drinking right at its peak and should be drunk up over the next few years.

Cellared since release at 58 degrees. PnP. Medium deep gold. Intense nose of tropical fruits, vanilla, and peach. Lovely viscous mouth feel and with great dry extract intensity finishing with a slight acid kick perhaps added to by some alcoholic heat. Impressive at age 11. I have noted previously that the Carneros bottlings from Aubert (and Kistler) seem to age very well.

Absolutely delicious example of what well made California Chardonnay can offer. Cloudy, gold color. Zinging acidity on the tongue cuts balances out the oak. Orchard fruits, tropical fruits and more subtle "oak" notes. Juicy and lip smacking but this is a serious wine, with some plenty of time to go. I've seen some comparisons to Corton Charlemagne. While I'm never one to try to "match" old and new world wines, the similarities probably lie in the oak treatment (i.e. Corton C receives its share of oak) and how well both examples of Chardonnay do an excellent job of absorbing and integrating the oak without letting the oak dominate. This is classic Aubert style but I would not hesitate to try other examples of Larry Hyde Vineyard Chardonnay.

In the slightly more than three years after the last note, this hazy rich golden yellow has turned a bit to the tannish copper side and looks older than it is. Still shows a lot of aroma and is full and filing. Plenty of life left, notwithstanding the color, with pineapple, lemons, pears and ripe red apples. Some vanilla creeping in. Nice weight.

Pale straw in color. On the nose slight citrus and tropical. Lemon peel at first moving to tropical flavors (mango?) and pear with a long finish of creme brulee. Wonderful mineral structure in perfect balance with the acid resulting in absolutely pure flavors.

Sticking with my previous score. I enjoyed this wine but thought it still needed time to integrate the oak. Once the bottle was open for awhile and warmed up slightly it became a bit cloying. I guess you have to let these babies age.

Aromas and flavors of lemon, tropical fruit, some pear, spice, a touch of crème brulee, along with subtle and lightly toasted oak. Rich and slightly creamy in the mouth. Great structure and balance. A long and extended finish. Paired decently with crab cakes. Consumed at the SAFW Reunion II.

Rick's 50th birthday notes and my 10,000th post!; 11/24/2012-11/27/2012 (Chateau Rick): Finally an Aubert that I thought was more than just ok. Great tension on the palate that helps liven it from being the typical creamy lush Aubert and big dollops of tropical fruit and creme. I read one note that someone complained of too much acid, but I feel that was the saving grace of the wine as without it.. it'd just be big, lush and thick.

Absolutely delicious after approximately 20 minutes of opening the bottle. Initially a bit hot and out of synch however the wine quickly organized itself into the sensual and silky Aubert style that hints of a burgandy. Honeysuckle, floral and vanilla were welcom initially on my taste buds followed by a sweet, slight citrus/apple/apricot/honeydew all in haramony with one another. I really enjoyed this wine next to a '10 Peter Michael Belle Cote. The room was split on which was preferred but everyone agreeed that both wines are special.

Our first taste of Aubert chardonnay. This bottle stunned us with its purity and mouth feel. It was rich and creamy with citrus and tropical fruit flavors. It seemed almost Burgundian in its proportions. The alcohol level of 15.2% was not obvious to us. Partnered this with grilled sea scallops for a memorable meal.

Pale gold. Younger in appearance and disjointed in taste. Too much acid, nose slightly muted that opened somewhat with warming. Another Aubert that needs to be served red wine temps. But is this another example of variation with Aubert? Rumors have it...

Opened w 45 min air in chilled decanter. nice light honey gold color with a beautiful fragrant orange/lemon nose, flowers and vanilla. Just that much more amazing on the palate - citrus in abundance, peach, touch of pear, and a wonderful mineral base note layered under the fruit. I expected more oak with the vanilla notes in the nose but not so; nor any indication that this wine was almost 16% crafted in new french oak - Wow!! Easily one of the best Chards i have had in a long time but more like a Meursault than any CA Chard should be... Great structure along with great balance - should age....

--- COLOR: Hazy, mellow gold (even though I decanted very carefully) NOTE: Nose of creme brulee, lemon custard, lemon zest, brown marshmallow, vanilla, hints of bartlett pear. Rich, opulent mouth that has a little raw/leesy edge that will probably mellow out in a couple years. High acid makes it a little bracing now but will keep this alive for several years. Mouth is chock full of lemon/lime/grapefruit juices, covered in creme fraiche. Finish allows acids to overwhelm the fruit (for now), ending with a tinge of caramel-covered granny smith apple. Nothing flabby here! Do Aubert Chards go through any malolactic fermentation? Seems like a young Meursault and could rise by 2 points in the future based on how it tasted the second day. Decent minerality. Almost no heat despite the 15.8% ABV, just like a Brewer-Clifton.
Tasted non blind at a wine dinner. Opened and served immediately.
Light yellow color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Nose of hazelnut, toast, vanilla and yellow apples. Flavors of yellow pears, yellow apples, lemon and cream. Medium acidity, full bodied. Drink or hold.
