Has a brooding presence of power and depth. Great intensity of damson fruit, along with dried rose petals and that Barolo tar. There is also old saddle leather, a touch of balsamic and dried herbs. Mid weight, tannins and acidity provide grip and lift, beautifully balanced. Long and complex. Drinking now and over the next decade.

Had a cold so not the most reliable TN. Decanted for 2 hours and followed for 2 more. Medium garnet with scarlet hints. Nose of tar and rose petal cut with musty earth and camphor two hours in. Layers of pure, understated plum and currant notes along with tar and balsam on the palate. Lovely acidity and relatively softened tannin. Longer finish of plum, strawberry, tar, and earth. A bit less forthcoming and concentrated than expected but that might be the URI talking. Served to M and I.

Stunning absolutely riveting well aged Barolo. Still so youthful and energetic, but mouth filling with smoky dark cherry over the prime rib from HOPR. Loved the balance and depth. Exemplar for a clean smooth 23 year old Barolo. Classic in structure and fruit profile, modern in mineral bite and silky mouth pleasing pleasure. Joy in a bottle.

Italian / Spanish theme: Didn't think that this was Nebbiolo, more like a SuperTuscan or even new-world. Oak has integrated, nose of menthol and cherry compote, tannins have mellowed and smoothened out. Took a couple of hours for depth to show.

Appealing medium garnet color. Very intense, complex nose; dried blood, tar, spices, roses, red berries, orange rind. Full body, spicy, soft with nicely melted tannins. Elegant and vivid flavours of ripe red berries liqueur, licorice, stay in the mouth for very long. Everything in balance and ready to drink. A wine that can not be put down. Had it with a Filipino Pinakbet and went extremely well with the crispy pork belly.

1999 Piedmont wine lunch at Caffe Cicheti. Tasted semi-blind. Drank in Grassl Cru. Kaleidoscopic complex evolving wine. Started off very lifted and red fruited and gradually got darker. Still going strong after more than 24 hours of air also. Appearance is clear, pale intensity, ruby colour. Nose medium+ intensity, light touch of VA that blows off, floral violets, ripe red cherries. Dark cherry liqueur with more air. Developing. On the palate, good high acidity, medium+ alcohol (14%), nicely fine integrated high tannins, full body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of dark red cherries, sweet plum, potpourri, integrated oak, sweet spice, dark stony minerals to the long finish. Black cherry liqueur darker character with more air. Very good quality. Fresh and lifted and still lots of life left. Could go another 8+ years maybe.

Popped and decanted for about 5+ hours. Intense brick colour with medium viscosity. First nose was all dried, dessicated red fruit, prunes, cherries and potpourri. With time, a powerful balsamic note took over: menthol, mint and eucalyptus. Also sweet tobacco, liquorice and dark spices emerged from the glass. Very complex, compelling nose. The palate didn't mirror the nose as much, being much fresher. Obviously notes of evolution were very clear as dried fruit, leather and dried flowers lingered on the palate, but the freshness was still very vibrant and cleansing, with fine grained tannins still grasping the front gums. Very long finish. A clear modern style of Barolo, very well executed as the wood is not dominant at all. Perfect drinking phase, but could clearly evolve further as the structure is there for more aging.

Decanted for 2 hours. Bricky scarlet ruby. Nose of billowing violets, rose petals, saline, plum pits, faint but searing tar. Layers of clear deep plum, resin, tar, and sweet grip on the satin-textured palate. Lovely acidity and deep-seated but fine tannin. Long, luxuriant finish of red plum fruit, balsam, and tarry earth. So fresh and deep, a great wine showing well.

1 of 6. Opened at 1:00 served at 7:30. Bright, clear ruby color. Initial nose of tight dark cherry fruit. After a few hours in the decanter it started to show some lifted floral notes, tobacco, dried fruits … Palate bright fresh fruit, initially more red and gaining darker nuances over the evening, fine tannins, lovely texture, excellent balance, compelling finish. Clearly will improve over the next decade

Weekly tasting group RWP #310; Surprise 4 x 3 wines (@ BS): Beautiful bouquet with some earthy and brushwood impressions. On the palate very juicy red berries, beautiful acidity which is nicely balanced by a slight touch of sweetness, pleasant bitterness, and some sticky tannin. Overall a full bodied wine with a good length.

Uncorked at 3pm on 31/12/2015, and left it bottle-decanted, and finished the last sip on 12am on 4/1/2016, a total of 81 hours.
Overall, full-bodied for most times, ruby in colour, bright acidity, great structure and complexity, very long finish. Beauty and sweet, impressive elegance.
On the nose, wood, tealeaves, chocolate. On the palate, plum, black fruit, almond, sauce. This aroma of fruit is not so obvious as compared with other Cannubi Boschis that I have drunk before (01, 05, 08, 09), but the structure and complexity is one of best.
10 hours after decant: Copper, iron and metal. On the nose , still wood, tealeaves and chocolate. The body went thin, and gained more complexity. I could taste metals, my very first experience in Italian wine.
24 hours after decant: The fruity aroma started to increase and the freshness scent reminded me of grasses with dewdrops in the early morning. On the palate, could drink mint, tar and blackcurrant.
30 hours after decant: The body started to get thick. Finished with notes of chestnut, and the inner sweetness began to emerge, wonderful. My girlfriend could smell scent of charcoal, which I also did eventually.
46 hours to 70 hours after decant: The body went thick again, on the nose, the fruity and floral aroma started to become dominant and intoxicating, but on palate not much change, finished with milk chocolate and chestnut.
80 hours after decant: Drank this glass for two hours, presumably past its peak. The body went thin again, just like the 10th hour, but the aroma was still there. Same on the palate, and finished with mill chocolate and chestnut. But no matter how long the wine has been decanted, one thing didn't change - the taste of wood and tealeaves.

Masculine, dense and intense with very big dark fruits. The palate was very alcoholic..the wine was modernly crafted. A very big wine that will improve with more time. But even with 90mins decanting, the potential did not really emerge out. Give this 5-10 more years.

Dinner at Tao Seafood (Tao Seafood, Asia Square): My wine of the night, this was lovely. It started with a beautiful nose of fragrant dried rose petals, drifting amidst black cherries and cassis aromas, and then more savoury scents of broiled meat, dusty earth and a little kiss of toasty oak, all twisted together with a lift of high-toned herbal accents. Lovely. The palate had a slightly extracted feel to it, with full, rich, ripe flavours of cherries and red berries – rather more red fruited than the nose suggested – structured with a slight chew of tannins that felt just a little drying at the finish. There was a lovely fullness and depth to thi wed to lovely acidity, all making for a very complete wine. Great finish too, full, satisfying, with dusty earth and herb notes and little smoke rings drifting amidst a final chew of tannins. Not my usual style of Barolo, but this managed to wed modern polish with a good but of soul. Very good, and it will get even better – this is nowhere near peak yet. I would give it a good 10 years more. 93+.

Fantastic typicity: this could only be Barolo. It's ripe, masculine, and dense, with black cherry fruit, licorice, herbs, and flowers on the nose, and an interesting nutty character on the palate. The tannin has softened nicely, while the acid still provides a jolt. Very concentrated for its body. Not nearly as modernist as expected, just more polished and accessible than a wine from a strict Piedmont traditionalist would be 15 years out from a structured vintage. Mmm.

Decanted about an hour. At first extremely primary, with rich, dense black plum and berry fruit. With air the nose develops all kinds of interesting nuances, including licorice, sage, balsamic (in a good, non-oxidized way), tar, and earth. Surprisingly open, extremely concentrated black fruit on the palate but with good freshness. The fruit is out in front the structure here and you really only feel the structure on the finish. The oak is hardly noticeable except in a certain creaminess to the texture and a very light touch of vanilla in the mid-palate. Excellent wine that is drinking quite well now, but no rush.

(At Bocca di Lupo, London). Opened but not decanted 90 minutes before drinking. Red to brick-red colour. Long lees. Perfumed rather than powerful nose. Excellent integration. 10-15 second plus finish. No marked development over the course of drinking. Outstanding wine: worth the wait.

Slow-O'd for 2 hours then decanted for one more. Quite dark ruby, almost purple. Nose of pine forest, menthol, blackberries, violets, tar, and camphor. Palate just ringing with authority, presence, and majestic fruit, showing abundant notes of sweet plum, blueberry, tar, strawberry and anise. Potent acidity plus muscular tannins balancing out on the tongue. Finish long and concentrated with lots of powerful grip. Wow, a stunning, amazing wine, certainly one for the ages.

Translucent red hue. Drinking well. Nicely balanced on the palate. A good wine that, in my opinion, the use of Barrique hinders the wine. It lacks the elegance of a traditional Barolo such as Bartolo Mascarello.

[Sparks] Not decanted. Started with huge acidity, lots of EtOH, and blunted licorice. Over time opened up with red berries, licorice, cinnamon, mint, sweet tannins, and a long velety finish. Great structure and potential. Would not drink again for at least 3 years. If drinking now needs at least 2 hours of aeration. 91-94.

1999 Cannubi Boschis:

Really like where the 99's are now entering a nice drinking window. Give it a little air and it really blossoms.

Everything great about a Barolo hitting its peak. Great structure & long finish. Should have decanted 2 days before I drank.

Not quite up to previous bottle, but still shows refined class. Opened but not decanted 2 hours before dinner. Started soft and got softer. Beautiful gravel stream bed underneath the fruit. Not sure how much this will change or when, but I would be surprised if it improves.

Right now the tannins dominate the fruit. Not that much tertiary flavors have developed yet. Wait another 5 years.

really nice after some air. I didn't find this as yielding at first like recent bottles of '99 Giacosa Rocche but once it starts to open up this is an outstanding barolo.

14% alcohol. decanted, followed in the glass 2 hours. this was incredible to my palate; everything i could want: some residual tannin and primary fruit giving way to secondary adventures. beautifully expressive nose and rich cherry licorice fruit. sensational. drink now - 2025.

Such a perfect Barolo and still peaking...ruby red, rich fruit with a little tobacco edge, lingering finish of some sour plum, a little mint and some bramble. Went perfectly with both smoked salmon and lamb shank.

Madonna di Campilio Ski Trip; 2/3/2011-2/5/2011: Decanted for 30 mins and for sure this wine is still on the young side. Big but not overpowering wine with lot of presence and nice cherry tones on the nose. Very enjoyable.

Translucent red hue. Drinking well. Nicely balanced on the palate. A good wine that, in my opinion, the use of Barrique hinders the wine. It lacks the elegance of a traditional Barolo such as Bartolo Mascarello.

A well made wine, full bodied, brown at the edge and throughout, mature, rich, plums, but not complex. On the simple side. Drink up, this isn't getting any better. -JBL

This is ready to drink. Smooth, dark-brownish color, nice taste of chocolate but not a lot of fruit (plums, dark berries), a bit to the sweet side.Good tannin at the end. A nice and well-structured wine if you can cope with the sweetness.

Around the world with Copenhagen Tasting Group (Jesper's Place): Dark red color with an orange hue. Sweet fruit nose with red cherries, strawberry, boiled fruits and marzipan. Similar notes on the palate with red berries, tobacco, rustic barnyard and flowers. Dry and rustic wine with lots of acidity and tannins. Very good length.

This Barolo reveals an outstanding combination of fruit, velvet and power. Very concentrated, but this is power in a velvet glove. This wine can be cellared to at least 2020 but is a joy to drink already now.
