Decant 2 hrs. Very dense, blackish red, rim still young. Smoky, dark fruit, Christmas cake bq, also tobacco notes, Powerful, structured wine w sandy tannins, good acidity, fresh fruit. Medium length aftertaste w plenty of dark fruit. Some alcohol at the end. Not complex, but good balance and good QPR. Will last 5-10 yrs, but quite nice now.

Really dark, with blue and deep ruby in the center. Some brownish tones on the brim. Rich, complex and mature nose with dark berries, oak, herbs, violets and and an animalistic, meaty note. On the palate the wine is smoothe and mature, with a solid structure and some complexity. There is enough acidity to make it lively and vibrant, with very good length and it's not without fruit. Will hold for several years yet, but very good now.

After leaving to mature in cellar, was looking forward to this tasting. Started well post decanting. Intense dark red fruit on the nose and packed a punch on the palate. Decent finish. 10-15 minute into it, took a wrong turn. High alcohol content suddenly hit and fruity intensity lost. Odd and disappointing.

Enjoyed with dinner. This went really well with olive tapenade and hummus. Nose is tobacco, green pepper, dirty fig. Entry is earthy black fruit. Mushroom and a bit of plum. A slight bit savory. Middle goes to dried tobacco but brown grapestem and green pepper . Finish is funky. The hummus and olive tapenade took full advantage of the funk elements here. Seemed to be definitely more earthy than the other bottle enjoyed a couple of years before. Enjoyable for a budget Bordeaux.

🍇Merlot: 51%, Cabernet Sauvignon: 42 %, Petit Verdot: 7 %. Matured for 12 months in French oak barrels. 👀 Dark inky red with a ruby rim. 👃 Blackcurrants, cedar and a hint of leather. 👅 This is a concentrated, complex wine with flavours that ebb and flow around each other. There is a strong core of dark fruit such as blackcurrants and black cherries, following up with menthol, cedar, liquorice and tobacco overtones. Dark chocolate and coffee takes over on the long finish along with a hint of dried herbs. The fine-grained tannins are well integrated and the acidity is relatively low but this doesn’t detract. Overall this is a very well balanced, complex yet harmonious wine. 🍽️ Paired with leg of lamb and roasted celeriac.

Good wine. I bought this in the UAE (United Arab Emirates for the uncultured amongst you}.They have a 30% tax on alcohol here that makes drinking half decent stuff a rather expensive hobby.
If value is your thing and if you see it, buy it. I'm sure it's half the price where you are and you shouldn't be very disappointed if you can grab a bottle.
Drinking well now. Still youthful. Would please an American cab/meritage fan still. Slightly adolescent from a great year in Bdx. Fruit's there and secondary characteristics too that will appease those that who steer clear of the fruit bomb.
Buy a bottle, let it breath for two or three hours. It's a rewarding bottle from St Esteph. If it looks like a well priced bottle, try it.

Nose is dark lush stewed fruit, particularly smoky, warm wax, and spice notes as well. Palate is also smoky, with cedar, purple/black cherries, plums, etc. Good length, good balance. Lacking a deeper complexity but there is enough depth to be enjoyable. Not the greatest value at $45 USD. 90-91

This wine is pretty dark and dense. Lots of vibrant purple and black fruits on the front, chewy, and a lot of earthiness in the middle and finish. But this wine is actually still quite youthful and still hasn't integrated. A little more sediment on the finish than I was expecting. I don't believe this one is going to last longer than 2022-ish with regard to its vibrant character, but I do expect it to turn darker and start losing its fruit around 2025.

Wine Club Jr (Bordeaux) (Sommerfeld's Place, SF): Medium-deep ruby. Nose of blackberry, currant, brown baking spices, leather, cedar, pine needles, and mocha. A bit too much brett at this young stage for my taste and I'm concerned it will become overwhelming as the wine ages. Medium bodied palate was a bit muted, not much ripeness of fruit came through the medium(+) tannins. Medium acid and length of finish. I don't think this wine is showing well and hope it shows a bit more life in 2-3 years. Has that classic St. Estephe firmness that could unwind nicely with a little extra time, and I expect it will be slower to mature than other 2009s I've tasted recently.
Compared with Chateau's 2nd wine, Tronquoy de Sainte Anne, the difference in quality was quite dramatic (though for 2.5x the cost, it ought to be). Much more concentrated across the board (color, aroma, weight on palate), though not one of my favorite Bordeaux's in the $40 price point and I kind of regret buying 4 bottles. I remember being more impressed at Bordeaux Confidential tasting. 87+

K&L Bordeaux Tasting (K&L): 64% of production (the rest went into St.-Anne). 42% Cabernet Sauvignon, 51% Merlot, 7% Petit Verdot. 46 hl/ha.
Bacterial and slightly Bretty, with slight greenness (underripe bell pepper). Alcohol and acid are slightly elevated. In-balance, but I’m not a fan of the balance - it tends towards tart malic more than sparkling acid. Competently made but doesn’t scream great Bordeaux to me.
Score: 8-8.5
---------------- Full Sensory: Dark, moderate plus concentration. Dark ruby with red at the rim.
First impression: Barnyard, not necessarily Brett. . Light Pyrazines in the form of high-toned bell peppers.
Alcohol slightly elevated. More stuffing than the ‘st. anne. Bright acidity. Plush in a plummy well. Some of the Brett is spicy in presentation, but overall it’s a bit bacterial and light on the midpalate to the finish. Medium plus body, slightly elevated alcohol. Acid slightly elevated, more malic. Moderate tannins. It’s in balance, but it’s not great - I’m not a fan. Nose is just bretty. Maybe it will develop further. I’m not so much a fan - it doesn’t speak great Bordeaux to me, but seems generally competently made. [I forgot to assess oak, and none jumped out at me. ~25% new French barrels]
[Jancis Robinson had different impressions in 2010: Minerals and opulence and lots of charm. Sinewy and exciting and depth of flavour but definitely St-Estèphe. Real vivacity. Very luscious in the middle. Very long and satisfying. ]

K&L Bordeaux Tasting (K&L Hollywood): Very young right now and clearly needs lots of time. This was pretty disappointing after the Tronquoy de St. Anne. Much more structured and rather closed on the nose. Dark fruits and charcoal on the palate. Just too austere at this stage.

Since this is a left bank wine, is suspect it is dominantly cab. When open, the nose was initially more like a fruit forward Cali-Cab but that faded quickly. Nose was muted and the finish short with little in the way of Bordeaux characteristics. Never would have guessed Bordeaux if tasted blind. I suspect this wine is dying rather than shutting down so I'd drink them now. Hope I'm wrong.

I believe this has shed it's baby fat and is beginning to shut down. Very classy structure, silky tannins with a dark fruit profile. Not much of a nose. On the palate the fruit is falling asleep. This is going to be a beauty in a few years. Hold

The 2009 Château Tronquoy-Lalande is medium(+) purple in colour with a nose of sour black cherries, dark oolong tea, fresh violets and there's a slight underling butterscotch and damp wood. On the palate, an initial attack of black currants and black cherries. Nonetheless, particularly on the mid palate, the underlying noticeable sweetness of raspberries and blueberries begin to better show themselves. This leaves a nice round mid-palate (could be due to the higher percentage of Merlot in this cepage - 51%).
Tannins are rather chewy on this medium(+) bodied wine, with slight rising back end acidity and slight alcohol. Rather pleasant overall but probably could use a little more power and drive for its flavours to be impressive.

----------------
Full Sensory:
Dark, moderate plus concentration.
[Jancis Robinson had different impressions in 2010:
Minerals and opulence and lots of charm.

Nose: lightly stinky and wonderful. Palate: classy as fuck. Great value for the bottle price.

Bordeaux Confidential USA, nose of red and black fruit, more of the same on the palate, tasty, near it's best, touch simple, medium body, and medium finish.

Hold

Pure and very nicely integrated. Drinking surprisingly well with short decant - I am having one of my cases delivered from storage.

I like this. It's open for business already. It has that extra ripeness that Saint Estèphe often needs. Smooth and velvety, but will it improve. Not sure.

Château Montrose / Tronquoy-Lalande tasting; 7/2/2013-7/3/2013 (Ciel Bleu (**) Amsterdam Okura hotel): the '09's are more closed than their opulent brothers from 2010. More closed on the nose and palate. Rich black fruit, tannins, leather. And too much present alcohol at the moment.

Vanilla, blackberry, coffee bean scents, soft, rich textures and a round, chocolate covered boysenberry finish. This wine of pleasure drinks well now and should improve over the next few years.

EP Tasting at Armit. Deep red fruit nose. Heavy, heavy tannin, could really sense and taste the alcohol. The jury's out on this one.
