Holding up very nicely. Raspberry, strawberry, and wild berry fruit with beautiful layers of clove, nutmeg, cinnamon, and baking spices all wrapped around a nice earthy core. Acidity has faded a bit but the finish is still long and lingering.

Dark fruit and leather on the nose, with just a hint of baking spice. The palate has ripe strawberry, cola, nutmeg, and cloves. Medium-long finish. This is a big Pinot that's in a nice spot right now. Not everyone's style, but this is nicely balanced and enjoyable. I'm glad it finally came around to show what I expect from LWC Garys'.

Candied cherries, cola, nutmeg, and a touch of earth on the nose, with a whiff of alcohol. The cola is prominent on the palate--perhaps a bit too prominent, which makes this wine a bit more one dimensional than previous vintages. Medium-length finish, but a bit too much heat. Garys' is my favorite of Brian's wines, but this one is a tad disappointing. I will hold my remaining two bottles for a bit to see if they develop more. The 2016 drinking window seems short.

Better than the last bottle with earth, spice, cedar and underbrush. Too much heat on the palate makes this not as enjoyable as it could be. Should be better considering the vineyard designation. JL missed the mark on this one.

California Pinot (Gary's Place, Hudson, WI): Dark red color. Decanted for 30 minutes. Followed one glass for 1.5 hours. 14.6% alc. This a big wine, and if you like your pinot's hot, spicy and tasting more like syrah than pinot, this is for you. Nose shows grape jelly, boysenberry, big jammy dark fruits, briary, syrah like, pepper and spice, some heat. The palate is disjointed, very spicy, pepper, briary palate, black fruits, medium body, lots of alcohol showing, oak and wood spice on the finish.

This poured a little darker than many pinots, with a great nose of dark red cherries, some raspberry and a little spicy vanilla which all followed through on the palate. It's a little bigger than many pinots and we liked it a lot.

I was expecting more from this. Perhaps it needed more time. Nice earthy nose with slight scent of cedar and dark cherries. Mellow flavors on the mouth with nothing notable. Finish was nice but left me wondering what this should be. Nevertheless it was enjoyable. No off flavors.

The wine is a medium to dark ruby red color. The open and inviting nose has black cherries, warm baking spices, black tea leaves, white pepper, raspberries, dried flowers, minerals, and some earthiness. This has medium to full body with fairly solid, ripe tannins, and very good acidity. The palate has a nice blend of tart cherries, sweet raspberries, spices, and subtle earthiness. The finish is fairly long and again, very flavorful with nice closing acidity holding everything together. Very tasty today, but no hurry on this one.

This is a fairly dark ruby color. The very enticing nose has black cherries, baking spices, boysenberries, black tea, and some earthiness. This is fairly full bodied with ripe tannins and good acidity. The palate is full of mouth coating, rich and spicy fruit with a bit of earthiness coming in behind the fruit. The finish is long and lingering with the earthy, spic, fruit. Not the most complex wine made by Loring, but very tasty. This will probably improve and gain some additional complexity with some additional time in the cellar.

Fruit forward black cherry with nutmeg and dark cocoa flavors. Rather full bodied for a pinot and seems a bit over-extracted. Finish starts with a sharp bite but mellows out into nice lingering secondary flavors.

14.6% alcohol. Black cherry color. Luscious bouquet of black cherry, blackberry, and light earth notes. In the mouth, unapologetically up front with its ripe, juicy fruit. There's bright acidity here that makes for a focused, good drink. Amazing how well the Loring 09s are showing right now. A-

Popped and poured. Not much on the nose. Very sweet with notes of vanilla, oak, maraschino cherry, and burnt rubber on a fairly long finish. Good acidity, which makes this an easy drinking Pinot.

Cranberry, raspberry and bacon fat on the nose. Some black tea as well. The palate reveals a blend of red fruit compote that is overripe and overwhelming. Not what I enjoy in Pinot Noir. I will be buying very little California Pinot moving forward, save for Hirsch and Aston.

Blind tasted against a Gary's from A.P. Vin. Andrew's has a more aggressive fruit profile and packs a lot of flavor in a short period of time, while Brian's version took a little longer to develop across the palate. They both have a nice rich mouth feel, with good balance of acidity and tannin. The A.P. Vin was a little lighter in color, but not noticeable unless you compare them side by side.
11/1/2013 I liked this better than the majority of other reviewers. Black cherry and raspberry fruit that almost immediately integrates somecomple oak. A nice bit of earthiness pokes its head up and then the fruit comes back to linger on the finish. Take the time to enjoy the whole profile.
9/5/2014 Not as thrilled with it this time. Dark fruit and dark color, with some heat on the end. Enough acidity to keep it from being jammy, but not much complexity.

Twist and pour, had a glass, put away in the refrigerator, and re-tasted the following day. Nice light nose showing some dust and berries. This has an engaging tartness to it , a citrus element, that complements the sweet ripe berries. It is a nicely balanced wine. 14.6% stated on the label. This shows no real heat. Well done.

Served at cellar temperature. Real dark color on this one. Up front nose of cinnamon, strawberry and dark cherries. Very fruit forward but it just what we wanted with our spicy chicken and wilted greens pasta. Big in the mouth with nice texture, good balancing acidity and soft tannins. Red and black fruits abound and the spiciness on the finish paired well with the dish. I thought it held it's alc well and drank real nice. We really liked this one and will have to purchase a few more bottles.

Served @ 60 degrees with grilled tuna steaks & cajun rubbed red snapper. Very good match for this wine - this is a very full bodied Pinot (almost Syrah like) but its got the acids & tannins to balance the ripe fruit. Cherry / black cherrry / currants / cinnamon / allspice on nose & palate - full bodied (especially for a Pinot) with good balance and long finish. I enjoyed this (as did my wife) but its definetly on the riper side of Pinot Noir. Would buy again.

Drank vs 09 ap vin garys. Group of 4 liked this better, w ap vin being a little too aggressive in style. Although less fruit, Loring was better balanced, and a better wine to our palates. For those who like over the top Pinot, choose the ap vin.

god, first one into the pool it seems--I'll break the surface! I needed a small portion of wine tonight, this fits nicely given its petite size bottle (375). Pours dark, lots of darker edged fruit, with some fresh strawberry, plum and vanilla. Listed alcohol of 14.6% and the wine tastes it--no heat but a ripe styled thicker palate profile. Decent amount of acidity in the wine, a touch of citrus and pine needle, nice spicy finish.
